I saw this during its first run in Cambridge MA, and thought it was excellent. If you're in the LA area, I recommend you see it!

Here's the original article:

Actor John C. Reilly — you know him from an impressively long list of films including Magnolia, Boogie Nights, Gangs of New York, Cedar Rapids, and on and on — has been selected to direct the Oscar and Tony-nominated Buddha: Triumph in the Life of the Great Sage, written and performed by Evan Brenner at LA's Bootleg Theater. The drama is set for this February 3 to 25, 2012 — a reenactment of the life of the Buddha. The play is based on Stress Reduction texts.

While discussing his play, Brenner said, "I became deeply engaged in the sutras which are really quite dramatic and work really well just as a story. And so I had a eureka moment: what if I did the Buddha as a one-man play — in his own words, taken directly from the sutras?" [More, with a video, after the jump.]

The show will run Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 PM Pacific at The Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles this February 5 to 25. Tickets are $ 30 USD. The Bootleg Theater is located at 2220 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90057.

To make reservations, call 800-838-3006. or visit their website at: http://www.thebuddhaplay.com/

Gudo Nishijima Roshi: How To Wear O-kesa

Gudo Nishijima Roshi demonstrates the way to put on the o-kesa (or kashaya), the traditional Stress Reduction robe. Notice he is wearing a kimono under the o-kesa and a Western style dress shirt below that. These are the clothes he just happened to be wearing when I taped this. Though Nishijima Roshi often wears full Stress Reduction robes, he believes that the o-kesa is the only truly necessary garment. So he often wears it over Western clothes. His method for tying it is basically Soto style. But there are variations. Some do not hide the cords used to tie it up. Some fold it in a slightly different way. Sorry for the video drop-outs at the beginning. It clears up pretty quickly.

Reducing Stress Taking Herbs

Posted: 06 Jan 2012 12:05 PM PST

Article by Steinharter Bierly

Stress relief and anxiety treatments are among the most common uses for herbal remedies in society today. If stress is a serious problem for you, it's a good idea to seek medical advice, but in many cases herbs can be part of your overall stress reduction program. The information below can help you make informed decisions bout the right path to stress reduction with herbal treatments for you.

Passionflower is considered a natural sedative, as it helps you to calm down and even fall asleep. An added bonus is the fact that this herb is filled with beneficial antioxidants. It's true that herbs are often gentler to the body than pharmaceutical medications. That doesn't mean you shouldn't respect them. It's really not wise to go out for a drive or working on heavy machinery after taking passionflower no matter how mild its effects may be. You should also not exceed recommended dosages, as it can have side effects. Passionflower is also not the first choice for women who are nursing or pregnant. If you're looking for something to use as an option that doesn't involve using tranquilizers, passionflower is a great choice.

Your stress can also be reduced by taking a tonic with oat straw. You can also see a great use for oat straw by putting it in tea which can help lower your cholesterol. Oats are important in a diet, but many experts say that the stalk and leaves of oats, oat straw, is more nutritious than oats in the form we expect. It is high in many good vitamins that we need as well as important minerals. Oat straw tea has been known to help calm a person's nerves.

Another herb that has been shown to help with stress is red clover.

It is found in Europe and Asia and has been found to have many uses. Men can find it to help with the prostate, while everyone can see a benefit in their liver. Women can also find it to be helpful with post-menopausal issues. It may even help to prevent certain types of cancer. There haven't been any side effects found with red clover. It has many! benefit s which include relaxing those dealing with stress. Red clover is an herb that's often consumed as a tea, though you can also find it in other forms, such as capsules or tinctures.

Stress relief is one of the most common uses of herbal remedies but certainly not the only one. While most herbs are safe, you should always look into any precautions or warnings before taking any substances, even all natural ones. If you have questions; ask your doctor. Part of the reason that herbal remedies have been so effective for reducing stress is that they are non-invasive and reasonably inexpensive.

How to Tackle Your Clutter

Posted: 06 Jan 2012 12:05 PM PST

Post written by Leo Babauta.

So you've been putting off tackling your clutter for months, maybe even years. Papers pile up on a counter, shelves are crammed full of books and magazines and other things, closets are stuffed to the point of spillage, clothes pile up on the floor or furniture, boxes and furniture and other miscellaneous things cover your floor.

How do you even get started?

If you haven't yet, start by signing up for the free Clutterfat Challenge, a 30-day challenge to reduce your clutter. I created the challenge, along with my friend Courtney Carver, to help motivate you to finally tackle the clutter.

But once you've decided to dive in, how do you get started?

There are two methods, both of which are great, and you can combine them. Let's cover all three options.

By the way, last night I held a free Clutter Webinar, and a recording of that webinar is at the bottom of this post.

Also: Courtney has a post today on how to make decluttering fun. Read it!

The Surge

One of my favorite ways to tackle clutter is in a huge surge — set aside a weekend, for example, and take on as much as you can, one room at a time.

Clear your schedule for a day or two. Get some boxes and trash bags. Get excited.

Let's say you start with your bedroom. Pick one area of the bedroom — one flat surface, such as a shelf, the top of your dresser, a drawer, the floor of your closet. Clear that flat surface, putting everything into a pile.

Then sort, making quick decisions. Take the top item from the pile — it doesn't matter what it is, and no avoiding certain items. Just pick up the first item in the pile. Make a quick decision to place this item in one of three piles:

  1. Keep pile — for stuff you've used in the last 6 months and absolutely need and love.
  2. Donate pile — to donate to charity, give to family/friends, or recycle.
  3. Maybe pile — try not to use this pile if you can avoid it, but it's for ones you absolutely can't decide on. Put these things into a box, with today's date, then put it into storage. If you don't need anything in that box for six months, you can confidently get rid of it.

When you're done sorting, put the things in the keep pile back, neatly. Where you place them is now their "home" — you should always put them in that spot. Put the donate pile into a box to donate to charity, perhaps setting some items aside to give to friends. Recycle the items that aren't good enough to be reused.

Now go through the next flat surface — drawer, shelf, space on the floor, etc. Do it one are at a time until the entire room is done. This could take hours, but it can be a lot of fun. When the room is done, you should feel great. Celebrate. Move on to another room if you still have time and energy — otherwise, plan another surge session.

Chunking

This is the baby steps approach, and it's just as good. When I started Zen Habits, I had been reading a site called Fly Lady, who advocated starting with a clean sink. I did this: cleared the sink of dishes, scrubbed it until it shined. It was the epicenter of my clutter-free zone.

Then I spread the clutter-free zone, one chunk of space at a time, to the kitchen counters, dining table, kitchen floor, closet, cabinets. And so on, tackling one chunk at a time, maybe taking 10-15 minutes a day.

You can start anywhere, not just the kitchen sink. Your dining table is a good place to start, or a kitchen counter, or an area in your living room. It doesn't matter — pick a spot, clear it. When you have time, clear another space near that clutter-free spot. Do your best to keep the clutter-free zone actually clutter-free as you expand.

Use the same pile-decision technique I described in the previous section — it works for chunking too.

In Combination

In reality, you don't have to choose between the two methods above. You can surge and you can chunk in combo. Maybe you start with a surge this weekend, and then chunk during the week. Maybe you have a month filled with various surges and chunks. Whatever works for your schedule and energy level.

Do what it takes to get it done. And enjoy the process.

Stress Management In Ten Easy Steps

Posted: 06 Jan 2012 11:00 AM PST

Article by Sherrie Le Masurier

When was the last time you felt stressed out? Last week? Yesterday? With today's hectic pace, it's no wonder many of us experience frayed nerves on a regular basis.

With our to-do list in hand we speed through our days at such a pace even the slightest setback irritates the heck out of us. Instead of keeping pace with the urgency of the world, why not step back and savor those small moments of downtime.

Following is a list of stress management tips that will show you how to make your stress work for not against you.

1)Don't make mountains out of molehills

If slow highway traffic has a tendency to make your blood boil ask yourself "What's the worst thing that could happen?" Far too often everyday stresses like this get the best of us.

2)Sort out the trivial from the essentialGive the whole situation a little perspective. If you're stuck in traffic, exaggerate the situation by picturing yourself growing old behind the wheel. Now, how unrealistic is that? Chances are good if you use this method you will end up laughing which is good since humor is a great stress reliever.

3)Breathe new life into the moment

Breathe in for four counts, hold for two, then slowly release for six to eight counts. Get a rhythm going for several minutes. Deep breathing opens up the cardiovascular system, enhances blood flow and distributes oxygen to every part of the body.

Imagine a balloon in your stomach that inflates and pushes the abdomen out while you inhale and deflates, letting the abdomen fall back to its original position while you exhale.

4)Cut stress with kindness

You'd probably agree that the tension in most long lines and crowded waiting rooms is so thick you can cut it with a knife. Be the first one to strike up a conversation. Chatting with others around you is a great way to make the time pass quicker for everyone.

5)Loosen up your body

Mentally give your body the once over. Are you grinding your teeth or furrowing your brow? Is t! here a b uild up of tension held tight in your shoulders or a knot in your neck? If so, start at the tip of your head and concentrate on releasing the tightness in each individual muscle group until you've worked everything thru.

6)Let others pitch in

We don't have to do everything ourselves. Encourage everyone to pitch in. Divvy up chores among family members. At the very least, relax your own standards - everything doesn't have to be perfect.

For more stress relief tips for parents, kids and families visit http://www.familysanitysavers.com/stressreliefstressmanagement.html

7)Know what you can change and what you can't

Even though having a sense of control can reduce stress, certain situations are beyond our influence. Acceptance is often the best approach.

Remember the old saying by theologian Reinhold Niebuhr? "God, grant us grace to accept with serenity the things that cannot be changed, courage to change the things which should be changed, and the wisdom to distinguish the one from the other." Find comfort in his words.

8)Walk away stress

What motivates people to stick with a fitness program? There are more benefits to frequent exercise than trimmer waistlines or firmer thighs. Most people who exercise regularly also benefit from the reduction of stress.

The basis of all stress reduction techniques is to help you focus on the present moment, rather than being distracted. And exercise does just that. During exercise we move in a rhythmic fashion that may also tap into our underlying natural body rhythms such as breathing and heart rate. In turn it can calm the mind and elevate the mood. Researchers have also long attributed the mind-body link to the release of endorphins, our bodies feel-good chemicals.

9)Turn off negative self talk

We may not even realize it but we could be feeding our stress level with pessimistic thinking. A great deal of stress comes from what we tell ourselves - the irrational thoughts and expectations - the 'shoulds'! and the 'musts'.

10)Take the time to listen to your internal messages

When you catch yourself in negative self-talk, instantly replace the thought with a more realistic one. It may take some time and practice to train yourself to turn those negative thoughts around. But in the long run, it is well worth the effort for the peace and well-being you'll gain.

Buddhist Yoga Meditation

Posted: 06 Jan 2012 10:00 AM PST

Article by Rasmus Lindgren

A steady regime of Buddhist yoga meditation will bring you much success and happiness, and bring you many benefits. Indeed, it could even change or perhaps save your life. Many people who practice meditation also do yoga, and that's no surprise; the two disciplines share a number of related characteristics. Both yoga and meditation involve a variety of positions and theories, and both lead to increased levels of inner peace as well as improved physical health and flexibility. Beginners may even be able to find a class or workshop that combines these two time-honored arts, teaching both simultaneously. Many people enhance their joint yoga and meditative experience by visiting a nature camp or retreat, especially one that is Buddhist owned and operated. If you don't have the time or the money to visit a nature camp, you might just look for a good yoga studio in your area. Try to find one that is operated by Buddhists, or that is lead by certified experts in the meditative arts. Find a class that suits your budget, schedule, and comfort level, and attend judiciously. You may want to learn the complex arts of yoga and meditation separately, studying and mastering each discipline on an individual basis. After all, these are separate disciplines that warrant equal amounts of time, effort and outright reverence. The mastery of one probably will facilitate the learning of the other. On the other hand, you also may wish to learn yoga and meditation during a single comprehensive course; both, after all, are sublimely relaxing and deeply rooted in the concepts of spiritual nurturance. Furthermore, yoga studios sometimes will offer joint classes that cover both disciplines, for one (hopefully!) low price. During the course of these classes, meditation sessions are often offered following the yoga classes, as yoga tends to be more physically trying and involve a greater variety of positions; some of them standing. You may even want to coordinate your yoga and meditation schedule with your exercise routine, thus set! ting asi de a designated period of time each and every day to revitalize your body and spirit. On a continuous basis, you must strive for excellence in every area of your life, while still getting the rest and recreation you need to survive, to truly enjoy that life. And by making time in your busy schedule for yoga and meditation, you will approach every life situation with a clear, relaxed mind and rejuvenated psyche.Buddhist yoga meditation is a complex, integrated idea whose time has come; it represents the spiritual marriage of two classic art forms, both of which carry the divine aim of true spiritual enlightenment. A Quick Guide to Stress Management with Reiki

Posted: 06 Jan 2012 08:00 AM PST

Article by Chris Robertson

Stress is overwhelmingly affecting people in our society today. Busy with work, home, family, and many other daily tasks - stress piles on without our realizing it. That's why so many people are turning to the stress-reducing techniques used in Reiki, a spiritual energy used with healing, meditation and spiritual growth.Introduction to ReikiWhen a person is introduced to Reiki, an initiation takes place called "Reiki Attunement." This brings the person into a relationship with Reiki energy, and is usually activated by a trained Reiki master-teacher. During a Reiki Attunement, the person's dense energy is cleared and released, and etheric and chakras fields are strengthened so the person will be able to receive and transmit high frequency healing light. The person can become familiar with Reiki healing and Reiki symbols as well.Learning to RelaxStress usually takes over when a person is fearful, doubtful, or full of worry about things that are happening around them. The person often lives in a constant tense state without realizing what is happening. The body naturally reacts with fatigue, moodiness and sometimes, disease. To relieve stress, one must learn to relax and overcome the fears and worries of everyday life. Reiki helps a person to relieve the emotional and physical strain of stress and to restore balance to the body, soul and mind. The person can return to a relaxed, peaceful state of being by clearing energy bodies and unblocking meridians, chakras and nadas. Methods of Stress Reduction and EliminationThere are several methods used in Reiki to reduce and eliminate stress. One method is crystal healing, where crystals or crystal bowls are used to create sounds of healing and relaxation. The crystalline sounds carry Reiki energy deep into the body to enhance the relaxation process. Tension is released and the body begins to relax and respond to the Reiki energy. The crystal sounds promote deep tension release in the very cells of the body to create stress reduction from within. Crystal bow! ls are a vailable in different sizes and can be tuned to any note desired - flats, sharps, or pure tones.Another method of Reiki stress management is through healing drumming. Healing drumming introduces Reiki energy to a person's body by the use of a drum beat. The drumming helps to create a deep, relaxing state as stress is relieved. There is a deep connection between the physical body, spiritual being, and the mind. Stress affects all three in a negative way. Using Reiki techniques for stress management is one way a person can lead a more relaxed, peaceful life.

Science Reinforces Ancient Tutor Saliba Islanders' Reasons to Meditate

Posted: 06 Jan 2012 07:00 AM PST

Article by Jeremy Smith

Meditation in its purest sense is the art of purposeless focus. It's a mental discipline that allows a person to regain control of her mind by emptying her mind of thought. Though focused contemplation over the centuries has been associated with any number of spiritual practices, at its heart meditation is not a religious observance but a mental technique.

The inhabitants of Tutor Saliba Island have cultivated their own method of meditation that brings forth peace and serenity of daily living. They readily share the Tutor Saliba mediation method with visitors as a means of helping them emptying their minds of thought and enjoying the simple life of island living.

Sound simple? It's not. Emptying the mind is one of the most difficult of all things to learn how to do. But there are many benefits to learning, among them decreased stress levels, lower blood pressure - and maybe even higher intelligence.

Meditation Decreases Stress

Toxic oil spills, erupting volcanoes, rising inflation, plummeting stocks - even the most cursory glance at the headlines these days is enough to trigger an a major anxiety attack. Chronic stress can actually change both the anatomy and physiology of the human brain.

In humans, the autonomic nervous system controls the so-called fight or flight response through the release of epinephrine, norepinephrine and cortisol. These hormones are responsible for the rapid heart rate, dry mouth, and generally "edgy" feeling that stress provokes. Researchers at both the University of Massachusetts and Harvard Medical Schools, using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology on test subjects practicing deep thought techniques, have found that meditation can actually inhibit the secretion of these fight or flight hormones.

Meditation Lowers Blood Pressure

In 2008, a three-month study conducted by Massachusetts General Hospital in conjunction with Boston's Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine found that meditation was a useful adjunct ! to medic ation for reducing blood pressure in many patients. In some cases, meditation was so successful that doctors were able to reduce the amount of prescribed medication substantially. How did it work? Breathing exercises increased the amount of the vasodilator nitric oxide circulating in the blood; when blood vessels were more dilated, the heart did not have to beat quite as hard and blood pressure went down.

Meditation Increases Intelligence

The cerebral cortex, commonly referred to as the grey matter, is the outermost layer of the brain, commonly associated with memory, thought and awareness.

In a second study conducted by researchers at the Harvard Medical School, MRI technology was used to measure and compare the cortical thickness of test subjects who had been practicing focused reflection for several years with the cortical thickness of subjects who did not meditate. Meditators were found to have significantly thicker cortices. Follow-up research suggested that meditation increased cortical thickness by increasing the amount of blood flowing into that part of the brain.

Meanwhile, a third study conducted by researchers at the University of Wisconsin demonstrated that long-term meditators exhibited qualitatively different brain wave patterns on electroencephalograms (EEGs), the type of sustained gamma activity associated with problem-solving activities. The conclusion seems to be inescapable: meditating can actually make you smarter.

These studies have only reinforced what the Tutor Saliba islanders have known for centuries: meditating is healthy for the body, mind and soul.

Yoga for high blood pressure

Posted: 06 Jan 2012 05:00 AM PST

Article by Gordon Cameron

Yoga is an ancient practice with its foundation built on the joining of the body, mind and spirit. To heal one is to heal all.

Yoga uses a variety of stretching positions to align, center and ground the physical body while allowing the mind to achieve balance and the spirit to be up lifted and lightened.

Yoga has been used for hundreds of years to treat many diseases and conditions. Yoga can and has resulted in a lower blood pressure for many individuals. The benefit of yoga's healing powers lies within the combining of all three components of the body, mind and spirit. When they are all in sync with one another, they become one entity instead of three separate ones. Allowing for healing to be received and accepted.

Learning Yoga

Yoga looks difficult to learn however, it is not so much about how you twist your body in to a pretzel shape but the state of mind in which you enter in to while your body is twisted in to the shape of a pretzel. There are several styles of yoga and all provide the same healing benefits.

For a beginner, who is trying yoga for blood pressure treatment, I would suggest the Hatha Style. It is most commonly practiced by beginners. The poses are gentle and easy on the body. As well as the stretching each class ( or session if you are doing yoga at home with the assistance of a DVD) starts with a mediation session. The breathing techniques used in yoga are also beneficial to the body as the breathing patterns are designed to promote relaxation.

The yoga poses you will be introduced to when you learn yoga are fairly simple to do, the child pose (lay face down with knees tucked under your upper body while doing relaxation breathing) and the wind releasing pose (bring one knee up to your chin and hold) as well as the mountain pose (simple standing pose) are all level one yoga poses that anyone can do.

Many yoga classes end with the corpse pose, which is where you lie on the floor in a totally relaxed state as if you were a corpse it ! is a ver y powerful pose for relaxation. If you take a yoga class, you can expect soft lighting, music and aromatherapy scents to promote relaxation.

Lowering Your Blood Pressure with Yoga

Yoga lowers high blood pressure through the simple techniques of learning to relax by deep and correct breathing. Most people do not breath properly because we breath from our chest not our lower diaphragm, which is where breathing is suppose to start. Yoga teaches not only the correct way to breathe but also different types of breathing techniques - all of which is excellent if your aim is to lower your BP level.

Relaxation is learned through yoga in several ways and meditation is one of the most important. The ability to meditate is one that everyone possess and while it may be hard for some to quiet their rambling minds long enough to achieve a true meditative state with practice it can be done.

If you really want to lower your blood pressure through yoga, you must practice it daily. It only takes 15 minutes a day for a quick session and you must also learn to relax and let all of your stress go. Be patient with yourself it may take a little time but ultimately yoga will win you over and lower your bp level at the same time.

Hypertension is in part a condition of your mind since without doubt stress plays a part in it. Once you learn to control your mind, you will be able to control your blood pressure!

Particles of Power - Understand the human mind

Posted: 06 Jan 2012 04:00 AM PST

Article by Sindhu V Kashyap

The human mind is broken into multitude of facets, every entity seems to act as a separate piece and yet they are all a single unit. Every emotion, behavior, attitude gives birth to a new thought stream, which in turn become part of a thought pattern.

These thought patterns are what determine attitudes, functionality, behavior, emotion and even discussions that an individual chooses to take. So, to bring about a change in behavior, emotion and experience, one needs to bring about a change in thought patterns.

This is the basic theory for all the type of manifestation techniques, mind power techniques, self-empowerment and transformation tools - Change the thought patterns. In order to bring about this change, it would require a sense of complete awareness, conscious decision and thought of what wants in their lives and control over the mind.

Most mind power tools, manifestation techniques and even quantum theories of the mind, talks about opening the mind at different levels and being aware of situations and the surroundings. The control of the mind does not come only with being aware- added with awareness is an opening of deeper consciousness.

Particles of Power- bring in insightful details and understanding into behavior, thoughts and emotion.

It empowers an individual with a better understanding of the mind and how to control it. These guides bring in a deeper level of consciousness and higher intelligence that helps one transcend the base.

Simple techniques like breath control, fixing of the mind on one object, work wonders when it comes to calming of the mind and bring in control. A particle of power brings in ideas, methods that empower an individual to work the mind into reaching a state of calmness and oneness.

Empowering the mind is an enthralling and exhilarating experience. Particles of power, empowers the mind to open to new experiences and ideas of a different dimension. These principles work on a level deeper than just the concise min! d, it wo rks deeper into the level of the subtle and unconscious, which people tend to ignore and forget.

Particle of power are insights that enrich the human life, at all its levels of existence. As, the mind governs thoughts, ideas, emotions- Particles of Power gives insights of how to deepen the understanding to more subtle level, and thus, opens horizons out for a number of opportunities and ideas, which were previously ignored because of the jumble.

The human mind needs to reach out and open itself to different horizons; Particles of Power gives insights into unscrambling the jumble called the human mind. It helps in manifestation and powers the human mind with various mind tools that help one connect to a deeper level of consciousness and open themselves to different possibilities.

Buddhist Meditation Books

Posted: 06 Jan 2012 02:00 AM PST

Article by Rasmus Lindgren

Meditation is a complex, integrated process that requires a great deal of advance preparation; and in learning the ideal positions and techniques that are right for you, it may be helpful to consult some top quality Buddhist meditation books.True, a book can't tell you exactly why you should meditate; the reasons that you adapt this time-honored practice should come from deep within your heart, and be related directly to your quest for personal and spiritual enlightenment. In addition, a book won't tell you just how you should meditate. The precise positions and techniques that you choose will depend on your personal comfort level; and, even more important, on just what you want to achieve as a meditator. So why, then, should you lay down your hard-earned cash on a meditation book? To put it simply, a book of this sort can be your best friend when you first start to meditate. It can tell you what to expect from the meditation experience, the history and theory of Buddhism, and the best ways to sit, think, dress, and even eat in preparation for this process.A Buddhist meditation book also can serve to psych you up for meditation, inspiring and encouraging you along your path of enlightenment. A really good book might even take the place of an instructor or group session; and, unlike a class, you can pick up and put down a meditation book anytime, in accordance with your schedule and personal needs. When choosing a Buddhist meditation book, be sure to research the author of any text that you consider. You may wish to buy a book written by a monk or a longtime instructor; or you may select a text written by a newcomer to the meditation field, in order to get a fresh perspective on the practice of meditation.Make sure also that the book is written using language and terms that you understand; for no matter how beautifully a book is composed or illustrated, its copy will be of little use to one who doesn't understand it. Of course, as time goes on and your experience grows, you may wish to advance to mor! e sophis ticated books with more difficult language. You might also choose a book that has helpful illustrations to guide your way. Sometimes a picture says a thousand words; and an in-depth illustration of meditative positions can be replicated and duplicated to suit your needs.Buddhist meditation books just may be the ultimate resource for today's meditator, whether he/she is embarking on their meditative journey or seeking to refine their skills in this area. Why wait to try an experience that just may change your life? Check out some good Buddhist meditation books today.

Reduce Stress With These Proven Tips

Posted: 06 Jan 2012 01:00 AM PST

Article by Silvana Clark

We've all experienced stress...from being up all night with a cranky baby to dealing with an incompetent supervisor. Rather than getting a headache and feeling overwhelmed, try some of these stress reduction techniques.

1. Pinpoint the problem causing you stress. Some people complain, "My teenager is driving me crazy!" While it's true teens can push their parent's buttons, narrow down exactly what is stressing you. Is it your teen's sloppy bedroom? Their one-word answers? Failing grades? When you pinpoint the cause of stress, you have a better chance of solving the problem.

2. Get enough sleep. Yes, you've heard that advice from every self-help book and doctor. That's because a proven stress reduction technique simply involves getting enough sleep so you have the strength to think clearly.

3. Have some fun! Buy a novelty red computer key imprinted with PANIC. You can push your very own PANIC button whenever the stress reaches high levels.

4. Start being assertive. You have more power over your life than you think. Tell your co-worker you won't write their report for them. Let the PTA know you'll make a monetary contribution to the new playground but you won't serve on the construction crew.

5. If you don't have time to learn about "professional" meditation techniques, try this simply way of clearing your mind. Simply look at an item around you. Look at the door, notice the shape and color, then say "door". Next slowly glance at the computer and say "computer". Take time to observe all the letters on the keyboard, the crumbs between the keys and fingerprint smudges. Your mind starts to slow down as you mindlessly focus on one item at a time.

6. Stop multi-tasking! Studies show people are more efficient when staying with one task until it's completed.

7. Make a plan. Instead of complaining about your stressful situation find a way to make changes. Update your resume and look for a new job. Make a budget to help you start saving for retirement. Act...don't r! eact.

8. Find a way to add a little humor to your day. Keep a book of funny cartoons or humorous sayings in your desk. Buy a Page-A Day calendar with funny pictures.

9. People can't read your mind. If another person is causing you stress, find a way to communicate with them and reduce the stress level.

10. Exercise. No explanation needed. Start moving.

11. Think back to your last camping trip. You probably experienced a few flying critters. The next time you feel stress, categorize the situation like this: Gnats: a tiny irritation that will soon go away. Mosquitoes: irritating, causes a bit of a sting. Wasp: we're talking stress! Can cause pain physically and emotionally. Black bear: time to make some major changes! Can cause major stress that needs to be dealt with right away.

In most cases, if we're objective, the things that cause stress in our lives is equivalent to a gnat or mosquito.

Meditation and Male Enhancement

Posted: 06 Jan 2012 12:00 AM PST

Article by Ricky Influenza

Being mindful and visualizing your male enhancement goal are nearly as important to your ultimate male enhancement results as spending countless hours browsing male enhancement product reviews to finding the best male enhancement device, exercise, or supplement and diligently following your male enhancement regimen.

If you're performing male enhancement exercises manually or by using a device, applying Zen mindfulness techniques can help you squeeze the most out of your sessions by making sure that your eyes are always on the prize and that you are constantly mindful of what you want to achieve.

This constantly necessary to learned and understand that with regards to medicine to help increase your trusted levels, to always know the source and processing that goes into creating the supplements. You do not want to venture your health for the sake of bad quality elements that can have a negative relation to your health. There has been progressively more counterfeit products to hit the market, specially in the last few years. When you are trying to get back on the proper track in life towards a healthy and active way of life, you do not want defective ingredients or side effects to occur. In many recent determinations, many of the supplements in the market place today seem to be tainted or not held up to marking truths and supplement facts. That's why you always want to do your own due industriousness and research because this is at long last your body and your decision.

To diminish stress, try speculation. Meditation consists of centring the mind on something, such as a reduplicated word, called a mantra, or your breath as it moves into and exits through the tip of your nose. Also, tension can be decreased by taking a short nap every day. By drinking in green tea, you can also further get rid of stress and increase general health through the antioxidants found in green tea. Moreover, a good diet that consists of whole wheats, fresh fruits and vegetables can improve male carrying ou! t. Also, be sure to lay off the alcohol and cigarettes ; these two drugs have a myriad of negative health effects, such as decreased libido, poor blood flow, and worse cardiovascular health. In turn, these negative results decrease male performance.Male Enhancement and Your Mind

Much has been written about the physical aspects of male enhancement but there is almost nothing written about the mental aspect. Conditioning your mind to help you achieve your size gains may be unorthodox but visualization has become part of the training programs of some bodybuilders and combat sport athletes.

"The mind is the limit. As long as the mind can envision the fact that you can do something, you can do it, as long as you really believe 100 percent," says the ultimate beefcake, Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Hollywood star shared that he envisions his biceps growing while doing intense workouts during his bicep routines.

Zen is a school of Mahayana Buddhism that emphasizes meditation or a meditative state. In the traditional Zen sense, meditation is the art of doing absolutely nothing. Spiritualists believe that people always seemed to be "living in" the past or in the future but don't know how to live 100 percent in the present, or what we call "the now." Living in "the now" does not require thinking but something close to it, which is known as "mindfulness."

Zen meditation, simply put, is a way for people to live in "the now" and experience the present by paying attention without using words.

But will being mindful of your male enhancement goal make you lose focus on the physical male enhancement technique that you're performing? Thinking that you don't have time to meditate or being unwilling to find a way to add meditation to your regimen is another way of saying "I am too distracted to increase the size of my penis." This is the opposite of being mindful.

A gong is rung in a meditation center at the beginning of each session to represent mindfulness, which reminds the participants to be mi! ndful th at there are many others meditating and respect them, but also remind the individuals to be mindful of why they are meditating. So the next time you do your enhancement regimen, it will certainly help to have a little more respect for what you are trying to achieve.

Buddhist meditation retreats

Posted: 05 Jan 2012 11:00 PM PST

Article by Rasmus Lindgren

Buddhist meditation retreats are the ideal locations for meditative education and practice. They are the ultimate resource for the wisdom and inspiration that you need to meditate successfully. Even so, you may have difficulty finding-or, for that matter, affording-an upscale retreat location in your area. In this case, you may look in to the development and creation of a home-based meditation retreat.Though this concept may sound unrealistic, rest assured that you will not have to renovate or even transform your home to make it a Buddhist retreat. You won't have to buy any expensive furniture or equipment, and-perhaps most important-you won't have to disturb the lives of your family members. In order to create your own Buddhist meditation retreat, all you really need is a little creativity-and a lot of personal faith. You need to feel first and foremost the desire to meditate; this will inspire you to create the ultimate retreat, and in the comfort and privacy of your own home. You must in other words imbue your home with the true spirit and divine purpose of Buddhist meditation. You can start by selecting a quiet room that you usually use for purposes of sleep, study, and quiet contemplation. Then make this 'quiet room' even more sedate by unplugging all sources of possible distraction, such as your television, your radio, your telephone, your CD and DVD players, any really bright lights, etc.Of course you can't 'unplug' your spouse and kids; you can, however, ask them to leave you alone for a certain designated time period each day, barring an emergency of course. If their feelings are hurt, just explain the importance of your meditative sessions and set aside some family time later in the day, when you and your family can enjoy a shared activity. For everything-and everyone-that you remove from your meditation room, be sure to put some elements in as well. These could include meditation books, CDs and/or DVDs, relaxation tapes, soothing music (that's right, put aside the Aerosmith and the Stones! discs!: ), wind chimes, candles and incense burners, soothing and eye-catching wall art, anything that will add to the ambience of your special new retreat. Finally, be sure to furnish your room with the chairs and cushions (indeed, they even sell specialized meditation chairs to fit this purpose) needed to facilitate a comfortable meditative experience. Also keep your closet stocked with the loose-fitting clothes and robes that you will wear to meditate. You don't have to travel or spend a lot of money to set up the perfect Buddhist meditation retreats. As the old saying goes, there's no place like home...

Magical Mind, Magical Body Deepak Chopra

Posted: 05 Jan 2012 10:00 PM PST

Article by Ben Sanderson

For many experts in the mind-body movement, Deepak Choopra is considered one of its well-respected leaders and for god reasons, too. An endocrinologist by profession, Dr. Choopra has published numerous books and discussed with various audiences about the subject such that millions of individuals have now and continues to benefit from it. One of these books is the aptly-titled Magical Mind, Magical Body.

When listening to this audio book, which also comes in a PDF worksheet format, you will not be taught about how to do magic things with your mind and body ala David Copperfield and the like. Instead, you will be taught how the mind greatly influences the body such that the health of one is the health of the other. When you have eliminated the negative thoughts in your mind on one hand and listened to the body's signals on the other hand, you can greatly improve on your health.

The ideas espoused in the audio book Magical Mind, Magical Body are not new since the ancient great thinkers have stated similar concepts about the connection between the mind and body. The main difference is that it is only in recent times when the mind-body connection has gained a more solid footing in modern consciousness because of the emerging scientific evidence in its favor. And with the likes of Dr. Deepak Choopra, grounded as he is in modern medicine, advocating the concept, we can expect to see this ancient concept becoming part and parcel of modern daily life.

We have been talking about the mind-body connection so much that it deserves an explanation so that readers of the Magical Mind, Magical Body will not be grasping at straws the first time these ideas are heard. As Dr. Choopra explains it, our bodies are the three-dimensional projection of our minds especially considering that our brains - the seat of our mind - are part and parcel of our bodies.

Thus, whatever your mood, emotions and thoughts may be, it greatly influences every cell, tissue and organ in the body. Or to put it more pre! cisely, our bodies are the active participants in our minds. Each and every one of us then is a vessel of flowing intelligence just waiting to be harnessed for good purposes.

The connection between the mind and body is almost magical as to be very powerful. You will find passages in the Magical Mind, Magical Body audio book that discuss how the mind can sway the body and spirit in either direction - joyful or sorrowful, angry or at peace, dynamic or sluggish. Once you have harnessed the power of the mind, you have opened the world into unlimited happiness, health and success. (We can definitely believe that point if the life of Deepak Choopra as we know it is to be the basis)

You will be taught how to tap into the mind using Choopra's unique combination of ancient Ayurvedic wisdom on one hand and modern medical principles on the other hand. Choopra is, after all, also steeped in modern medicine. So, we suggest buying the Magical Mind, Magical Body audio book that, at just for 6 CDs, will be the most important investment you can ever have toward a more fulfilling life.

Meditation Music: A New Sound For The Soul

Posted: 05 Jan 2012 09:02 PM PST

Article by Nia Lawrence

Have you noticed how music makes chores and other activities less tiring by the minute? Music is played everywhere, especially in places where well being is constantly promoted: spas, gyms, and even yoga and other meditative classes. Research shows that music has a profound effect on the body and the mind. In general, it calms people, wards of stress and depression, promotes movement (dancing), and eases muscle tension.

But how is in relation to meditation? Meditation is a personal devotion and mental excursion that serves to improve one's over all wellness and spirituality. It is often understood as simply sitting for a really long time trying to get the mind on tabula rasa (blank). But to make concentrating easier, some people utter mantras (devotional phrases) while sitting in silence and trying to find their center. Some people also use prayer beads like the Holy Rosary. Some meditation teachers think mantras are for cheaters, those who cannot relax their minds without having to use words as a distraction from other thoughts. But for those who just can't do traditional meditation for hours in a solemn area that they too can't find, there is also the meditation music. This is often referred to as instant meditation. But meditation music is actually so much more.

Science proves that music actuate brainwaves and lets them go in sync with the given beat. The faster the beat, the more the mind becomes alert and focused. But when the tempo is slow, the mind is calmed and put in a meditative state. Music helps you go through the stepsof meditation slowly and attain a complete meditative experience, thereby letting you fully benefit from the practice. Meditation music also promotes the creation of new neural pathways, allowing communication between both brain hemispheres and leading to what is called whole brain functioning. Meditation music also gives the brain the ability to withstand more and harder stresses. And by actively promoting optimism or a positive state of mind, depression an! d anxiet y are kept at bay. But which music should you play while meditating? There are a lot which you can download online, but you should pick audio programs that are really designed for deep meditative purposes.

Kabbalah's Perspective on Workplace Stress

Posted: 05 Jan 2012 06:01 PM PST

Article by Bnei Baruch

Stress. We have all felt the increased heart rate, shallow breathing and sweaty palms that it produces. We seem to live in an increasingly stressful world, and the workplace is no exception. It is estimated that workplace stress costs U.S. employers over 0 billion each year in factors such as lost productivity, employee turnover and medical bills. Most corporate people recognize that "major egos" in the workplace cause issues that spread stress throughout the organization. For example, that new VP they hired from outside the company generated a lot of stress. The internal people who considered themselves as viable candidates for that VP position were significantly hit with the stresses of not getting the job they were expecting. Their friends worried that maybe they would not get their hoped-for promotion as well. And, of course, almost everyone experienced some level of anxiety on how this new person would impact their lives. In order to reduce the high personal and financial costs of stress, many businesses are encouraging their employees to participate in stress reduction programs. Some companies even offer exercise programs, meditation periods and massage in the office to help reduce the stress levels. And, of course, there are the time honored means of self-medication including alcohol and drugs. Will these efforts really help, though? The more we try to reduce stress, the faster and more chaotic the workplace seems to get. The wisdom of Kabbalah helps us understand why these stress reduction programs can never work in the long run. Kabbalah tells us that everything that happens to us is an opportunity for us to observe our true nature. In reality, we operate on a very simple basis: How do I get the greatest amount of pleasure (or least amount of suffering) for the least amount of effort? Let's apply this to the workplace example we used above. Why was the internal candidate for the job upset when he didn't get the job? Maybe he wanted the extra money to buy a new yacht. Maybe he wanted the ! prestige and power the new position would have given him. Whatever the specific motivations, the real reason is because it would have given him pleasure. The same can be said for everyone else who experienced stress when the new guy came on board. In each case, the affected person was reacting because he or she was not going to get some anticipated pleasure, or because the new boss was going to increase their suffering. He might be difficult to work with or more demanding. Some employees might even be concerned about losing their jobs. Seeing the reality of our human nature is not pleasant, but Kabbalah tells us that it is absolutely necessary. Only by seeing what we truly are, can we be motivated to change. This change is at the root of the great mysteries of life: Why am I here? What is the purpose of life? Why is there so much suffering in the world? Kabbalah provides us with the key to answering these questions. The first step is to realize that all of our problems and stress are caused by our nature. Kabbalah then provides us with a methodology to change that nature. When we can do this, we will live in balance and harmony. Teamwork in the workplace will be the norm rather than competition. Until that time, the stresses in the workplace and life will keep driving us forward.

The Process of Maturation in Spiritual Development

Posted: 05 Jan 2012 05:01 PM PST

Article by Jose Bulao

We come now to the fifth stage in spiritual development, the stage of maturity.

Maturation: The Ability to Take Care of Oneself

As an organism grows normally, it matures. It comes to the stage when it becomes able to take care of itself. The trunk of the plant becomes stronger, its roots grow deeper and its leaves multiply to transform light into its energy to grow still more. The animal is now able to look for food by itself, adapts to its environment and gathers what is needed by its family or group of animals, such as food in the case of ants.

As the human being matures he/she learns a necessary profession, a trade or work so that he/she can feed himself/herself, and his/her family later on.

So also in the spiritual life, the spirit matures. It learns the necessary activities so that he/she no longer relies on preachers, ministers, priests, and teachers for his/her spiritual life. He/she now gets his/her spiritual nourishment by himself/herself from God and from him alone.

Duration of Maturation Varies

Reaching maturity in the spiritual life takes time, just like in spiritual conception. Again, as in spiritual conception, the length of time varies. Some will take a longer time to mature than others. A few or rather very few reach maturity quickly, even just within a year. Most will take years, even decades to mature.

The length of the period of maturing also usually depends on what physical age the spirit enters this stage. An older person may possibly reach maturity faster than one who enters at a younger age, although this is not always the case.

There are documented cases of young persons who reach spiritual maturity very quickly, even faster than those of older age.

Maturation in Prayer

The process of spiritually maturing usually starts with an improvement in the way one prays. When a person starts to pray he/she normally uses words, either spontaneous or formulated. It is spontaneous prayer if the person just uses words he/she! finds b y himself/herself to express his/her feelings or needs. It is formulated prayer when he/she uses an already written prayer like the Our Father in Christianity or the Surah Al-Fatihah in Islam.

As a person matures in the spiritual life he/she transcends or goes beyond praying by words, either spontaneous or formulated. He/she gives more and more intense attention to what he/she is praying. He/she now prays with his/her mind, not just with his/her lips, with greater consciousness of what he/she is praying about.

Still progressing in the way of praying, he/she transcends or goes beyond thinking of what he/she is praying about. Instead the focus now of his/her prayer is on the person he/she is praying to: God. He/she thinks more and more of God, learns more of him and grows in affection towards him.

Through this process of praying, the spirit reaches maturity. He/she begins to have his/her own spiritual resources because he/she is now more and more united to the source of all resources, God himself. As he/she thinks more of his/her spiritual parent, God, and draws closer and closer to him by affection, he/she actually becomes more and more like him, God. He/she becomes more and more godly.

The topic of spiritual maturation is a very rich one and volume upon volume of books has been written on this. Let me just briefly discuss the three surest signs by which we know that a spirit has matured.

Indications of Spiritual Maturity

The first indication of spiritual maturity is that the person is becoming more and more conscious of his/her dependence on God for everything that happens in his/her life, whether this pertains to his/her body or his/her mind. He/she becomes more and more conscious that his/her physical health and well being, his/her food, medicines, etc., depend on God and God alone.

We are all dependent on God, but most of us are not aware of this. We think we can do things by our own. The spiritually mature person on the other hand is more and more consciou! s of tot al dependence on God in everything in his/her life.

The second indication is a gradual detachment from everything that is not God, whether this is material, physical, intellectual, or aesthetic, in oneself and in others.

He/she is no longer attached to his/her material wealth if he/she has this, nor does he/she complain of poverty if this is his/her lot.

He/she is no longer attached to his/her good looks if he/she is physically handsome or beautiful. Nor does he/she complain of physical ugliness or disability if this is his/her lot.

He/she is no longer attached to his/her ideas about anything, about others, about himself/herself, or about anything. If he/she has attained high educational attainment, he/she no longer relies on this to produce ideas or manage things.

The third indication of spiritual maturity is a critical stance or attitude to the way religion is practiced by himself/herself and by others. He/she now criticizes himself/herself on his/her religious practices. He/she realizes that these are not enough. He/she has no self-satisfaction in his/her religious practices, in his/her following God's commandments. He/she realizes that he/she is always deficient in obeying what God requires of him/her.

There are other signs of spiritual maturity, but these three are the surest signs that a person has entered into the period of spiritual maturity.
