History is punctuated with disasters. Vesuvius, the China floods, the San Francisco earthquake, the Indian Ocean tsunami, and countless other catastrophes dot the timeline with damage, loss and destruction. The United States has yet to witness death tolls comprable to those caused by disasters in, for example, China and India, but thats not to say we dont see our share of destruction here. RecentlyKiplinger.com worked with ISO, a leading source of insurance risk information, to identify the states that have suffered the biggest property losses from disasters over the past decade, based on loss of insured property. Severe weather, 2 hurricanesEstimated Insured Property Loss: $4.1 billion Great Lakes-effect snowstorms blanket northern Ohio regularly in winter. Spring tornadoes plague the central and southern parts of the Buckeye State. Hurricane Ike blasted the Ohio Valley in 2008. The state also had more than 30 earthquakes between 2002 and 2007.

Red Wine Reduced Breast Cancer Cells

Italian researchers from the University of Calabria say they demonstrated how a key ingredient in red wine inhibits the proliferation of human breast cancer cells . Resveratrol is the ingredient they say might be useful in the treatment of breast cancer, in addition to primary therapies. In their experiment resveratrol was applied to different cells and compared to cells that received no treatment. The cells receiving resveratrol showed a decrease in growth. A large reduction in estrogen receptor levels was believed to be related to the inhibition of the breast cancer cells. Their research study was published in the Journal of the Federation of American Societies forExperimental Biology.
