A Compact Guide to Creating the Fitness Habit

Posted: 29 Dec 2011 01:00 PM PST

Post written by Leo Babauta.

A new year, a new slate of resolutions.

Perhaps the biggest resolution at New Year's is to get fit — start exercising, start eating right, and all that jazz.

But resolutions never last. As you might already know, I'm not a fan of resolutions.

Instead of creating a list of resolutions this year, create a new habit.

Habits last, and they lead to long-term fitness (and more). They require more patience, but they are worth the wait.

As some of you know, fitness habits are what started me along the path to changing my life. I quit smoking, started running. Then I started eating healthier, became vegetarian (now vegan), quit the junk food addiction, started doing other types of workouts (bodyweight, weights, Crossfit, anything that was fun).

And six years later, I'm nearly 39 years old and in the best shape of my life. I have less bodyfat than any time since high school, more muscle than ever in my life, and I can run and hike and play longer than anytime in the history of Leo. That's not to brag, but to show you what can be done with some simple fitness habits.

Reshaping Through Habits

The appealing thing about many fitness programs is that they promise quick results. You see testimonials from people who have gone through the program and lost 30 lbs. and gain a washboard stomach in just 4 weeks!

That's all complete crap.

First, most people won't achieve those results. Second, and more importantly, if you do get quick results, you'll reverse those results very quickly … because you haven't created new habits. You've just done something intense and unsustainable for a short period of time. That's nearly worthless.

You should be focused on long-term results, and more importantly on a healthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle starts with changing your habits and ends with long-term results.

Changing habits takes time. I recommend one habit at a time, and give yourself about a month per habit. That takes patience, but you shouldn't try to see amazing results in just 30 days. You should enjoy your new lifestyle, which will be an amazing result in itself that you can achieve immediately. In a matter of months and years, your body and health will change too.

Let's say you change one habit at a time, one per month or so. You'll have 12 new habits every year. Even if you only formed 6 habits that stuck and that you loved, you'd be amazed at what kind of changes those 6 habits would create in your life and fitness. If you did 6 habits a year for three years, you'd be transformed.

If you don't have the patience to change one habit at a time, or focus on enjoying your new habits rather than getting quick results, you should stop reading now.

Which Habits to Choose

So let's say you're just starting out … what habit should you start with?

My favorite habit is daily exercise, but if you're looking to lose weight probably the most important habits relate to eating.

In truth, which habit you choose first matters very little in the long run. You will be changing many little habits over the course of the next few years, and the order of those habits is unimportant. What matters is that you start.

Here are some habits that I'd start with, if you haven't created them yet:

  • Exercise for just 5 minutes a day, adding 5 minutes per week. Make it a fun exercise.
  • Drink water instead of sweet drinks.
  • Replace fried foods with vegetables.
  • Eat fruit and nuts for snacks.
  • Eat lean protein, including plant proteins, instead of red meat.
  • Add strength exercises to your routine — pushups, pullups, squats, lunges.
  • If you've been doing all of the above for awhile, add some weights — compound lifts like squats, deadlifts, bench presses, dips, chinups, overhead presses and rows.

I've found that losing weight is simple: eat lots of veggies and plant or lean protein, reduce calories, do some kind of cardio, lift some weights to preserve muscle.

Gaining muscle is also fairly simple: eat lots of veggies and plant or lean protein, increase calories, do some kind of cardio to preserve heart health, lift heavy weights to grow muscle.

The weights should be compound lifts and heavy, the cardio should be enjoyable. Getting "toned", btw, is just gaining muscle and losing the fat that covers the muscle, whether you're a man or woman.

Forming the Habit

These are my top principles for forming habits. If you've read my writings on habits before, this won't be new to you, but often it's good to review these principles for things you've missed:

  1. Make it social. This is an incredibly powerful too. I highly, highly recommend Fitocracy to everyone, as it's a way to make exercise fun and social (invite code: ZENHABITS). It turns fitness into a game, and you log your exercises, get points, encourage others, complete fitness quests, get props for workouts you've done. Other great ways to make your habit change social: report on your daily progress to friends and family through Facebook, Twitter, Google+ or email, find a workout partner, get a coach, join a running group, join online fitness forums, join a class.
  2. Do one habit at a time only. People often skip this one because they think they are different than everyone else, but I've found this to be extremely effective. You increase your odds of success with just one habit at a time, for many reasons: habits are hard to form because they require lots of focus and energy, having many habits means you're spreading yourself too thin, and if you can't commit to one habit at a time, you're not fully committed.
  3. Make it your top priority. People often put off fitness and diet stuff because they're too busy, too tired, to stressed out by big projects or the holidays, etc. But in my experience, those are great reasons you *should* be exercising. So make your new diet or exercise habit one of your absolute top priorities for the day. If you don't have time, you need to make time.
  4. Enjoy the habit. This is extremely important, and most people ignore it. If the habit is fun, you will stick with it longer. And even better, if you are enjoying it, you immediately win. You don't need to wait for a bunch of pounds lost or other results — you get instant results because you're enjoying the change. I find activities I enjoy, I join challenges or races to make exercise fun, I enjoy a conversation with a friend during a run, I eat healthy foods that are delicious (berries — yum!) and focus on savoring those foods. Focus on the enjoyment, and don't make the habit change a big sacrifice.

Final Recommendations

Many people set fitness goals for the year. I've done it myself, but lately I've found that I can get fit without them. For one thing, when you set goals, they are often arbitrary, and so you are spending all your effort working towards a basically meaningless number. And then if you don't achieve it, you feel like you failed, even if the number was arbitrary to start with.

You can create habits without goals — I define goals as a predefined outcome that you're striving for, not activities that you just want to do. So is creating a habit a goal? It can be, or you can approach it with the attitude of "it doesn't matter what the outcome of this habit change is, but I want to enjoy the change as I do it".

So enjoy the habit change, in the moment, and don't worry what the outcome of the activity is. The outcome matters very little, if you enjoy the journey.

The journey to fitness can have an infinite number of paths, and setting your path in advance by setting goals is limiting. Allow yourself to change course on a whim, without guilt of not achieving a goal, and you'll find new paths you'd never have anticipated when you set out.

But the most important step of the journey is the first one. After that, the most important step is the one you're presently taking. So take that step, and enjoy it.

This is the story of the Dharmarajika Monastery in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was formed in the 1960s by a respected Buddhist Spirituality Venerable. Relax Your Body, Mind and Soul With Different Types of Meditation Techniques

Posted: 29 Dec 2011 12:00 PM PST

Article by Chamunda Sawami Ji

In today's world of strife and competition, meditation is almost indispensable. With people leading a frantic lifestyle, stress is mounting up which in turn is becoming a strong cause of heart disease and high blood pressure. It is thereby important to relax ourselves. And this can be achieved through meditation. Meditation is a simple way to balance one's physical, emotional and mental well being.

While there are numerous different meditation techniques, you can stick to the technique which suits you the most. Have a glimpse at the under mentioned basic categories of meditation techniques.

Fundamental Meditation Technique: This involves putting your mind at ease & thinking of nothing. This might seem to be complicated for those who are doing it for the first time. A good way to begin is to stop thinking about the problems of your life and instead think of yourself as an observer of your thoughts and let them go as soon as they start materializing. The key is to witness your thoughts without putting any judgments.

Focused Meditation Technique: This essentially means focusing your complete attention on one object without getting distracted by your thoughts. For example, concentrating on a visual object like a statue, the flame of a candle, something auditory like sound of an instrument or simply focusing on your breath. Lot of people find this technique easy & simple compare to the above mentioned technique.

Activity-Oriented or Walking Meditation Technique: With this technique of meditation, you connect yourself in a recurring activity. This calms down the mind, and allows your brain to shift. This involves your body, wherein you can meditate while performing activities like gardening, walking, creating artwork, or practicing yoga. As your mind meanders, focus on your breathing and the movement of the body.

Mindfulness Meditation Techniques: This technique is also known as vipassanna or insight meditation and is practiced by Buddhi! sts. It is all about practicing and concentrating on all what you do and all what is going around you during meditation. It is all about staying in the present then thinking about the future. It is a way of self-awakening.

Spiritual Meditating: Though not religion specific, meditation can also be a spiritual practice. Many people experience meditation as a form of prayer. Once the mind becomes calm and quiet, people experience inner wisdom. You can meditate on a single phrase or a question until an answer comes. Though this might seem to be very engaging, this would clear their mind and accept whatsoever comes that day.

Whatever techniques you choose to use, the prospective benefits are obvious and abundant, making it one of the most commonly suggested stress management practices.

Why Women Report Being in Worse Health than Men

When asked to rate their own health, women, on average, consistently report being in worse health than men do, and a new study from researchers in Spain says this is because women have a higher rate of chronic diseases — contradicting a previous theory that women's lower self-rated health is simply a reporting bias.

"In general practice, there has been this idea that women over-report health problems, or are more likely to say they are ill or pay attention to their symptoms than men," said first author of the study Davide Malmusi, of the Public Health Agency of Barcelona. "We wanted to test whether their differences in self-reported health could in fact be explained by the difference in the prevalence of chronic conditions."

The new findings were published Dec. 16 in the European Journal of Public Health.

Self-reporting health

Malmusi and colleagues across Spain gathered data from Spain's 2006 National Health Survey, which included data from face-to-face interviews with more than 29,000 people on their health. About half of the study participants were between the ages of 16 and 44; the other half was older.

The survey included the question, "Over the last 12 months, would you say your overall health has been very good, good, fair, poor, or very poor?" as well as a question on whether health problems had limited people's activities over the previous six months.

Of the women interviewed, 38.8 percent rated their health as poor or very poor, and 25.7 percent reported chronic limitation of activity. Of the men in the study, only 27 percent had poor self-rated health, and 19.3 percent reported chronic limitation of activity.

But when the researchers matched up the number of chronic conditions each person had with his or her health rating, the gender difference disappeared. Having a higher number of chronic conditions correlated with poorer self-rated health to the same degree in both genders.

For men and women with the same conditions, or the same number of conditions, women were no more likely to claim poorer health.

"There's been a longstanding debate about whether women's self-reported health is a reporting bias or not," said sociologist Ellen Annandale of the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom, who was uninvolved in the new work. "Some researchers argue that women might over-report health problems, and men might under-report. This study supports wider research that women's poorer self-reported health reflects underlying chronic health problems."

The root of chronic health problems

What the new study doesn't answer, Annandale said, is why women have a higher rate of chronic health problems. The data did reveal that women's higher rate of chronic problems can be most strongly attributed to five chronic disorders: arthritis, mental disorders, neck pain, headaches and back pain. But further research will be needed to explain why.

Malmusi said it is likely a mix of biological and social factors.

"Gender influences that way that people are treated and diagnosed in health systems," Annandale said. "It influences the kind of health conditions that men and women suffer from, the way people relate to their own bodies, and what kind of access to health care they have."

Understanding gender differences in health can help scientists and doctors find ways to better treat patients, she said.

"Women generally live longer than men, but in many countries that gap in life expectancy has been decreasing over time. One of the reasons for that is thought to be that men's health is improving, but women's is not."

Pass it on:  The fact that women generally rank their health poorer than men do correlates to a higher rate of chronic health problems, not a higher likelihood to complain about their health or pay attention to symptoms.

Om Mani Padme Hum - Tibetan Incantation - Original Extended Version The Powers of the Six Syllables -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The six syllables perfect the Six Paramitas of the Bodhisattvas. Gen Rinpoche, in his commentary on the Meaning of said: "The mantra Om Mani Pädme Hum is easy to say yet quite powerful, because it contains the essence of the entire teaching. When you say the first syllable "Om" it is blessed to help you achieve perfection in the practice of generosity, "Ma" helps perfect the practice of pure ethics, and "Ni" helps achieve perfection in the practice of tolerance and patience. "Päd", the fourth syllable, helps to achieve perfection of perseverance, "Me" helps achieve perfection in the practice of concentration, and the final sixth syllable "Hum" helps achieve perfection in the practice of wisdom. So in this way recitation of the mantra helps achieve perfection in the six practices from generosity to wisdom. The path of these six perfections is the path walked by all the Buddhas of the three times. What could then be more meaningful than to say the mantra and accomplish the six perfections?" The six syllables purify the six realms of existence in suffering. Church-Goers Have Lower Blood Pressure

Posted: 29 Dec 2011 11:00 AM PST

People who go to church more often have lower blood pressure than those who are less church-going, according to a new study from Norway.

People who reported going to church at least three times a month had blood pressure that was, on average, one-to-two points lower than those who didn't go to church. Those who went to church between one and three times a month saw about a 1-point reduction in blood pressure, and those who went once a month or less had about a half-point benefit.

Although there has been previous research in the United States regarding the relationship between religious practice and blood pressure, no such work had been conducted in Norway.

The findings surprised study co-author Dr. Jostein Holmen, a community medicine professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, because it's uncommon for Norwegians to attend church often, whereas it's common in the United States.

"I expected that we would not find any association between church attendance and blood pressure in the [study] population," Holmen said. But the results were similar to those of studies done in the United States.

"Two-thirds of studies have found that there is an inverse relationship between religious attendance and blood pressure," said Dr. Harold Koenig, the director of the Center for Spirituality, Theology and Health at Duke University, and an author of the study.

The study was published Nov. 21 in the International Journal of Psychiatry in Medicine.

Church and heart disease

The researchers used data from the Nord-TrøndelagHealth Study, nicknamed the HUNT Study, which has been gathering health data from 120,000 Norwegians since 1984. The data in the new findings came from the study's third phase, which was conducted between 2006 and 2008.

Residents over age 20 in Nord-Trøndelag, a rural county in central Norway, were sent questionnaires that included questions about religious attendance, and returned them to screening stations where their blood pressure was measured. About 41,000 people completed the study.

When analyzing the data, the researchers took into account other variables that could affect blood pressure, such as age, education level, cardiovascular disease and depression.

They found that people who attended church more often, did in fact, have lower blood pressure than those who didn't.

Koenig, who has researched the health benefits of religion for years, said he was not surprised.

"The main point is that there is a relationship between religion and one indicator of health, blood pressure," he said. "In northern Europe, which is largely secular, there is the same relationship that exists in the United States, which is quite religious. Even in secular societies these relationships emerge."

The reason for the blood pressure reduction may be that "people who attend services are exposed to sermons that provide guidance for healthy decision-making and coping with stress," Koenig said. "Church services also involve praying and singing together, as well as performing sacred rituals together, which probably have physiological consequences and help to reduce stress. Reducing stress can bring blood pressure down."

Additionally, the social interactions that happen at church may contribute to general health, though this likely accounts for a small amount of the health benefits of going to church, Koenig said.

Different findings

Although these results align with many previous studies, other studies have found the exact opposite.

Dr. Amy Luke, an associate professor at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, recently published a study that found that frequent churchgoers had higher blood pressure than others.

Luke said she attributed her findings to the fact that her study's participants engaged in health ministries at their churches, and were simply more aware of health issues, such as high blood pressure.

"Religion has different meaning for different folks," Luke said. "There are differences in populations and communities."

Article by Shanthi Kapur

There is nothing in the fire burns from the sky, so to speak, and we can this week to prepare the balance, rejuvenation and to set up our intentions with the weekend Conscious Convergence.

I do not know about you, but I had a ball yesterday with the eclipse. He described last week as one of the universal Eclipse open the windows so that we can improve our awareness and restart after this period of darkness into a new perspective on a higher level of understanding. There will be a new Antichrist as per Mayan calendar end of world I feel like yesterday with a day of meditation, contemplation and communion with the divine. I attended two events at the device every day and I was deeply moved and grateful to be part of this transition in human consciousness may be higher. It is so delicious!

New Research Into Mind Power

Posted: 29 Dec 2011 09:07 AM PST

Article by Amelia Traverne

Our minds are like magnets. What they think and envision, they eventually will attract. This is called the law of attraction and it is a powerful function of the mind. If you believe something strongly enough, according to the law of attraction, it will occur.

If you want a better life than the one you have now, you have to be able to envision it, feel it, 'be in it' in your mind's eye, and think about it as though it were really happening. Eventually, it will. It's going to take some practice, likely, but if you persist, you will succeed. Truly, your mind power is very powerful and an absolutely amazing instrument of creation.

Every one of us has this power, but most of us don't think we have the capability to use it. In fact, it's been shown that we humans only use about 10% of our mind power, but think about that for a minute. Isn't that crazy? We usually find something that's simple, and then stick with it.

We complain that our lives are hard and unfulfilling because we do not believe that anything good can happen to us. Because we think negatively we attract more of the same into our lives and create what we don't want. What we think is what our life becomes.

What if we told you that everything you've accomplished up until now is because of your subconscious mind power? Would you believe us or will you think about all the bad luck situations or negative aspects that kept you from doing something?

Basically, if you want something in your life then all you need to do to get it is think it. If you expect nothing but bad things then that is what you will get.

If you want to increase your mind power then there are some things that you can do. Visualization is one of those things. Visualization is a powerful technique that allows you to exercise your mind power. It can help you to gain more power, too.

Now you can do these two ways. You can either visualize everything in your mind, or you can take advantage of pictures. In the beginning it may be harder to! visuali ze things without constantly thinking about the negative things surrounding it.

We always recommend making or cutting a picture and placing them anywhere you go throughout the day. The more times you see, the more times you'll start breaking into the real power behind your mind.

If this seems like a difficult task, give yourself a little help. Take out a piece of paper and write down your first goal. While you're doing this start visualizing the situation in a positive manner. Again, you need to do visualize it throughout the day as much as possible so it will eventually become a reality. If you take the laid back approach it will end up taking longer to accomplish.

Affirmations are another excellent means of increasing your mind power. An affirmation is a positive statement you make about your life as you go through your day. They are statements that encourage you and they can be about anything as long as they are positive. Using an affirmation to increase the power of your mind to bring about weight loss will look something like this: It will feel so good to be 10 pounds thinner by the end of the month.

Keep saying these positive things, and eventually, you'll see that these things just begin to happen. And it doesn't matter whether or not you're used to it at first, either. If you do something for 28 consecutive days, like any habit, it's going to become natural to you.

There's also another technique you can use to develop your mind's power, called 'entrainment.' Entrainment is simply synchronization of brain waves using different frequencies through audio technology. Our brains are naturally attuned to doing several different things, one of which is to heal themselves. You can tap into this power even more by using this kind of advanced audio-based technology.

If you use brainwave entertainment, then it will open up that mind power. The only problem about this avenue is that it's an advanced procedure and should only be done after you perfect those beginning stages! .

Hypnosis is a powerful tool to help increase you're the power of your mind. It works through relaxation and getting into the subconscious mind. Smoking cessation is a good example of how hypnosis works. During a hypnosis session, the smoker is told they do not want to smoke and they do not need to smoke and that they want to quit.

Eventually they start believing in themselves because someone else is telling them to start doing it. The difference in this case is that they can't defend themselves when they're hypnotized.

All you have to do is believe that you can do something and you will be able to do it. Everyone has mind power. It may not happen as quickly as you like, but you can begin to turn your life around bit by bit. You simply have to believe that what you put out into the universe in the form of positive energy will come back to you as positive energy.

You just have to start with your subconscious mind and harnessing that mind power.

Admit fault and move on

Posted: 29 Dec 2011 09:05 AM PST

Have you ever watched two people quarrel, or otherwise be stuck in a conflict with each other? Usually, if either or both of them simply acknowledged one or more things, that would end the fight.

Recall a time someone mistreated you, let you down, dropped the ball, made an error, spoke harshly, was unskillful, got a fact wrong, or affected you negatively even if that was not their intention. (This is what I mean, very broadly, under the umbrella heading of "fault.") If the person refuses to admit fault, how do you feel? Probably dismayed, frustrated, uneasy, distanced, less willing to trust, and more defensive yourself. The interaction – and even the relationship – gets stuck on the unadmitted fault and is shadowed, dragged down, and constrained as a result.

On the other hand, if this person had admitted the fault, how would you have reacted? Probably pretty well! When someone admits fault (always broadly defined, in my usage here) to me, I feel safer, on more solid ground, more at ease, warmer toward them – and more willing to admit faults myself.

Turn this around, and you can see the benefits in admitting faults to others. It cuts to the heart of the matter, reduces a cause of their anxiety or anger, let you move on to other topics (including your own needs), takes the wind out of their sails if they're lambasting you, and puts you in a stronger position to ask them to admit fault themselves. And as part of admitting fault, it's natural and important to sincerely commit to avoiding this fault as best you can in the future.

Then you can get beyond the hassle and bad feelings of the unadmitted fault, and move on to something more positive.

For example, recently our adult son called me on a certain – ah – intense positionality I sometimes expressed when he was growing up. I sputtered and deflected awhile in response, but then had to admit the truth of what he was saying (and acknowledge him for his courage in saying it), and told him I wouldn't do this any more. When I said this, he felt better and I felt better. And then we could move on to good things – like more sushi!

How do we admit fault?

Start by reminding yourself how it is in your own best interests to admit fault and move on. We might think that admitting fault is weak or that it lets the other person off the hook for his or her faults. But actually, it takes a strong person to admit fault, and it puts us in a stronger position with others.

Sort out your fault(s) – mistake, unskillfulness, misdeed, error, etc. – from the other pieces of the puzzle of the interaction or relationship. Don't overstate your fault out of guilt or appeasement. Be clear and specific in your own mind as to what the fault is – and what is not a fault. You, not anyone else, are the judge of what your fault is.

Admit the fault directly. Be simple and direct. It's alright to express or explain the context of the fault – like you were tired or upset about something else – but avoid justifying the fault, or getting lawyerly about it; and sometimes, especially in charged situations, it's best to simply acknowledge your fault without any explanation wrapped around it.

Try to be empathic and compassionate about the consequences of your fault for the other person. Remind yourself why this is good for you to do! Stay on the topic of your fault for a reasonable amount of time; don't jump quickly to the faults of the other person, but don't let the other person repetitively pound you for your fault after you've admitted it.

Make a commitment inside your mind, and perhaps to the other person, not to do this fault again.

When it feels right, disengage from discussing your fault. Then it could be appropriate to bring up ways the other person could help you in not doing the fault in the future (e.g., getting home in time to help with dinner will help you not yell at the kids). Or bring up a fault of the other person.

And then – sheesh! – it's time to move on. To more positive topics, or to stepping back in the relationship, or to more productive ways of relating with the person.

Last, to plant a seed I'll explore in a future JOT, it's also good to admit a personal fault to yourself . . . and then to let go of guilt, self-criticism, and inadequacy, and to move on to self-compassion, self-care, self-worth, happiness, and inner peace.

2012 - The Mayan Calendar - The Age of Aquarius - Going through a cosmic cloud

Whichever path you are looking for is the fact that humanity is on the verge of the most striking change in the history of mankind since Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden (or tadpoles grew legs and walked on the earth, if you want the theory) . Nostradamus most of the predictions turned to be true so Mayan calendar end of world end of the earth can happens in real The recognition of global warming and our role in the cause of which is a symptom of that change. The realization that we - people - has seriously contributed to the extinction of species on the planet at an alarming rate, is another symptom. Peak Oil is different. Economic collapse is another. People are afraid with Mayan calendar end of world In fact, you have to unconscious or deep denial not to see that the planet is run by a huge transformation.

Many see this as the apocalypse - the end of the world. And depending on how things go, it can be. But just as the Mayan calendar is often interpreted as predicting the end of the world (in fact requires that the end of an era that defined by time and space), is the apocalypse, as the end of the world misunderstood. People say that the predictions of Mayan calendar end of world has something to do with the Mayan CalendarThe true meaning of the word apocalypse, "a revelation of something most people in an era of falsehood and error, ie dominated hidden is revealed, the veil."

What was hidden from most of humanity for thousands of years the true identity and purpose of humanity. And where is the secret key was hidden? Not the highest mountain or deep in the ocean or buried under the Sphinx in the desert. No - this "secret" was never intended to be a secret at all. It is in every human being who ever walked on earth. Exist, with me and in you. Why it was not called in the vernacular? would sound Mayan calendar end of world end of the world, pass through an asteroid earth a negative effect on the! Earth. The layers of lies and errors accepted and passed on from generation to generation - because they are buried by the "veil" is mentioned. Oh, it has over the centuries that have lifted the veil for themselves and many have been honored - Abraham, Isaac, David, Jesus, Buddha, Confucius, Mahatma Gandhi, Lao Tzu, Chief Seattle and others. If Mayan calendar end of world will really be true, then we must prepare for survival She tried to show his way the way for others to get out under the veil, but no one could lift the veil of humanity in your body.

Today we see an evolution in consciousness comes to the fore. We are approaching a critical mass - the number of people to do what no one has succeeded the great spiritual leaders of the past, doing it for themselves - to transform the planet. It is not necessary that all $ 7000000000 (or 8 now?) We have from this change in consciousness. As per Mayan calendar end of world end of the world, an asteroid moving towards the earth it would have negative impact on the earth. As the rudder of a boat is a small component of the ship, but also determines what kind it moves, it takes only a relatively small proportion of the population of the earth, the importance of humanity and the planet to be determined. How many people? Some say 144,000. Personally, I do not know what the number is, but I think we are approaching that number. Read hear magazines, films, radio, surf the Internet and listen to the voice of the spiritual helmet everywhere. If Mayan calendar end of world is really going to be true then we have to prepare for survival One is a new radio program that I am privileged to have hosting. This is called "The Evolution of Consciousness" and people from all backgrounds who are in their own way to meet, help to lift the veil, so can the human race choose to accept our true identity - the divine presence - here to manage the planet and bring heaven to earth.

We are not here to predict the demise of the earth, but in the evolution of consciousness, and t! hat the planet's place in the good life, the concept will involve the development again. We have heard much about the predictions of Mayan calendar end of world today.

Sri Lanka’s Buddhist Legacy

Posted: 29 Dec 2011 07:00 AM PST

Article by Jude Limburn Turner

It's been called 'The Pearl of the Indian Ocean', and splendour of both manmade and natural varieties certainly abound in Sri Lanka. Holidays to this culturally rich island offer the lucky visitor a chance to explore its rolling plains, lush forests and verdant mountains, and to meet its diverse people.

What makes Sri Lanka so fascinating is its mix of ethnicities and religions, and those visitors who remember that the modern face of the country has many roots will be able to appreciate it best. To discuss all of them in the detail they deserve would take volumes, so this is just an introduction to the most prominent religion in the country: Buddhism. Travellers on Sri Lanka holidays will encounter Buddhism in daily life as well as at Buddhist monuments, and learning a little about what makes Sri Lankan Buddhism unique will help them to appreciate local life all the better.

Origins of Buddhism in Sri Lanka

Buddhism developed in the Indian subcontinent in the second half of the first millennium BCE, and became widespread in the centuries after the Buddha's death. Compassion, an acceptance of impermanence and a rejection of materialism were some of the foremost values of the Dhamma, or Buddhist law. Sri Lanka was an important point in trade routes between India and Southeast Asia, and with trade came cultural and religious influences. Buddhism was officially introduced here in the second century BCE, by the son of the then-Emperor Ashoka - the Venerable Mahinda. A cutting of the tree under which the Buddha reached enlightenment is said to have been brought to Sri Lanka at that time, and the Buddhist scriptures (which had been passed down via oral tradition) were put down in writing in Sri Lanka circa 30 BCE. The island thus became an important Buddhist centre, and remains so to this day.

Theravada Buddhism

While Buddhism continued to spread through Southeast and East Asia, evolving as it went, in Sri Lanka it has remained relatively unchanged since ancient times. The ! form of Buddhism practised there is Theravada, one of the oldest schools of the religion. Theravada is also practised in Burma, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand, though in each country it has adapted to fit local culture and indigenous beliefs. What makes Sri Lankan Buddhism unique is that has existed continuously in the country for longer than in any other - the lineage of the Sangha, or monkhood, can be traced back to the second century BCE. The legacy of these early times is apparent to those who visit on Sri Lanka holidays, from the temples where devotees flock to the streets where monks walk.

The Temple of the Sacred Tooth

One of the most important Buddhist monuments in the region is the Sri Dalada Maligawa, or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Located in the royal palace grounds at Kandy, it is thought to house a tooth of the Buddha, which was brought to the country by Princess Hemamali and given to the reigning king, Kirthi Sri Meghavarna, who built the first of several successive temples to houses, always near to the seat of power. It is believed that whoever holds the relic also has the right to rule the country, and also that water used to ritually cleanse the relic contains healing powers. Many visitors participating in Sri Lanka holidays see this as a beautiful and intriguing attraction; but remember that it is a sacred place for Buddhists, and still used for daily worship. Spending some time at this temple might present the opportunity to learn more about Buddhism as it is practised today.

Psychopathy at its worst

Posted: 29 Dec 2011 07:00 AM PST

No rational person believes such nonsense as "When you're dead you're dead."  It maybe be the fact, and personally evident, that I am greater than the sum of my anatomy and its finitude.  In a Nietzschean sense, it is a will to power to believe that when you're dead you're dead.  Such people are looking for any excuse to destroy all that stands for the spiritual side of man.  It is psychopathy at its worst.

Buddhism understands that what gives life and animates us is always outside of the animated psychophysical body including its death.  It it also outside of thought and imagination; even our private internal dialogue.  But more importantly, Buddhism teaches us that we can awaken to this beyond.

However, the worldly person (prithagjana) doesn't which to recognize this because such a person is not noble (aryan).  Unlike the noble, the worldly person doesn't care about ultimate truth.  They are hopelessly caught up in the animated.  It is like drinking Lethe  such that the more one drinks the more they forget what is immortal—even how to reason.

Asian Martial Arts History

Posted: 29 Dec 2011 06:01 AM PST

Article by Franco

Early HistoryThe groundwork of the eastern martial arts is likely a merge of earlyish Indian and Chinese martial arts. Outer trade took place between these nations commencing around 600 BC, with merchants, monks and diplomats traveling the Silk Road. During the Warring States historic period of Chinese history (480-221 BC) abundant development in martial doctrine and strategy came forth, as described by Sun Tzu in The Art of War (c. 350 BC).An early legend in martial arts tells the story of a South Indian Pallava prince converted monk appointed Bodhidharma, thought to have lived approximately 550 A.D.The martial virtuousnesses of discipline, control, humbleness and esteem are imputed to this philosophy. Daruma is also looked upon the father of Zen Buddhism in China. Thus the values of honorable demeanour and self-control have been interlaced with martial practice since the most former times. Also in China Buddhabhadra, an Indian dhyana master becomes the number 1 abbot of the Shaolin temple. The Shaolin Monastery was constructed by the famous Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty in A.D. 477.The education of the arts in Asia has historically conjoined the cultural traditions of teacher-disciple apprenticeship. Students are disciplined in a rigorously ranked system by a master teacher.Modern HistoryEurope's colonization of Asian nations also gave rise a decline in local martial arts, particularly with the origination of firearms. This can clearly be seen in India after the broad establishment of British Raj in the 19th century. More European manners of organizing police force, armies and political institutions, and the accelerative use of firearms, ate at at the need for traditional combat training connected with caste-specific duties.During the year 1804 the British Colonial governmentbanished kalaripayat in response to a series of uprisings. Kalaripayat and other traditional martial arts experienced a revival in the 1920s in Tellicherry and distributed throughout South India. ! Similar phenomena took place in Southeast Asian colonies such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines. Other Indian martial arts, like Thang-Ta also witnessed a resurgence in the 1950s.The Western concern in the Asian martial arts dates from the late 19th century, ascribable to the increase in tradebetween China, Japan and the US.Comparatively a couple of Westerners actually exercised the arts, considering it to be mere performance. Edward William Barton-Wright, a railway engineer who had examined Jujutsu while working in Japan between 1894-97, was the first man known to have instructed Asian martial arts in Europe. He also instituted an selective martial arts style named Bartitsu which combinedsavate, jiujitsu, boxing, judo and stick fighting. As Western influence grew in Asia a keener number of military personnel spent time in South korea, China and Japan. Vulnerability to the arts during the Korean war was also important. The later 1970s and 1980s witnessed an widened media interest in the martial arts, because of the untimely death of Bruce Lee. Other movie figures like Jackie Chan expanded the martial arts all around the world because of his succesful acting career as a martial artist.

Stress Relief: Can it happen for you?

Posted: 29 Dec 2011 05:00 AM PST

Article by Crizza Reyes

Stress is the condition that results when person-environment transactions lead the individual to perceive a discrepancy, whether real or not, between the demands of a situation and the resources of the person's biological, psychological or social systems. It is the "wear and tear" our bodies experience as we adjust to our continually changing environment; it has physical and emotional effects on us and can create positive or negative feelings. Usually, stress is one of those things that can't be seen, but you know it's there. It's sort of like an evil entity that attacks the body and mind. You get the aches and pains, right? I think it's safe to say that we all do at times. For some of us it is much worse than it is for others. Maybe it's connected to work, or possibly related to your home life. Some folks even inherit high stress levels. Pretty much everything is genetic we're finding out. And then there's stress relieving. But, how is this done? Well, this really depends on you and what you prefer. There are several routes to stress reduction. As a part of my experience, I have been a social worker for many years. I know that the course of my career I have worked with various groups of people needs assistance. My formal training is working with youth and families, so this is where the focus of my career has been. I was not working as a social worker very long before I realized that I needed to find a stress relief for myself to remain effective in my job.

Particularly, working with people in general can be stress producing and when you add in mental health and domestic violence issues as well as chemical dependency the amount of stress goes way up. One of the things that I was doing with families was helping them find stress relief, yet I knew that if I did not accomplish this myself first I would not be able to teach others.

You can find so many books, programs and audio tapes available that focus on stress relief. Many are very good, but they are also time consuming. I found that! trying to fit in the programming to relief my stress was causing me even more anxiety. I went to a conference that had several break out sessions. One of the sessions was on stress relief. The presenter had great ideas of simple things that can be done in a few minutes throughout the day to help relieve stress from building up. One of the first things he started talking about was breathing. I had heard about deep breathing in the past, but the way he presented this concept and the exercises he showed us were very helpful. Breathing is something that we do all the time and learning to breathe properly can be accomplished in minutes. I find that when I am getting stressed I take shallow breaths and also hold my breath. Remembering to take a few deep breaths and hold them in and blow them out has an amazing calming effect. I have used this technique with children and parents as we are sitting outside of the courtroom waiting to go into family court. One day one of the public defenders heard me remind his client to take some deep breaths as we were going into the courtroom. The attorney told me after the hearing that he did this also and was amazed at the stress relief he experienced. There are many things that we can do during the day to reduce stress. Sometimes simply getting out of your chair and pacing or walking to a vending machine for coffee will help clear your mind and acts as stress relief.

In fact, vitamins is one of the most common dismissed answers if you have stress. You can take a multivitamin each day and it does aid with your stress issues. We all require daily nutrients that assist our body's recovery. I have been doing this since the age of 18, which adds up to over a decade now. And in all honesty, I feel little stress in my life. Relaxation is another secret in relieving stress. Just when you begin to stress-out about something, STOP. Relax and take your emotions to a different place. Stressing-out solves nothing. It's like worrying. Nothing great comes from it. All these things do is thr! ow off y our game so that you miss stuff that's really there. Calm down. I will offer a few ways you can do this and get that stress relieving game in full motion. Number one; try a massage therapist. This is something every human being should indulge in from time to time. It helps greatly with your body's circulation and it pulls much of the tension from your aching muscles. I fully admit that I would like a massage daily. Number two; get the proper amount of sleep each and ever night. This is essential. Your following day with be so much better. And number three; try meditation. This is one of the most outstanding ways to clear your mind of pollutants such as stress and chaos at work. Try a beginner's course for fun.

We all know that, the body's natural relaxation response is a powerful antidote to stress. Relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, visualization, progressive muscle relaxation, meditation, and yoga can help you activate this relaxation response. When practiced regularly, these activities lead to a reduction in your everyday stress levels. What's more, they also serve a protective quality by teaching you how to stay calm and collected in the face of life's curve balls.Literally, it's imperative that we don't allow stress to rule our lives. Whether it takes stress relieving via massage therapy or meditation, we must strive to keep it away. Life is so much better and richer without this irksome burden. Live stress-free.

Stress is present in everyone's life. For information on how to finally get some stress relief in your life, please visit our web site.

What is meditation

Posted: 29 Dec 2011 04:00 AM PST

Article by Jeff Hudson

Medittation is consciously directing your attention inward to alter your state of consciousness. Theres no limit to the things you can direct your attention toward: symbols, sounds, colours, breath, uplifting thoughts, spiritual realm, etc. Meditation is simply about attention and intention, where you direct it, and how it alters your consciousness.

The latin word for meditation "meditari", which means, "to heal". In the western world, meditatation is confused with "relaxtion". Relaxtion is a by-product of meditation but meditaton is infinitely more than just relaxtion. In it's truest sense, it is union with divine consciousness and self-realisation. According to Dr. Dharma singh, currently over 50 million americans or 19% of the populace engage in meditation of one form or another. It would be interesting to ascertain the proportion of people that meditate in other parts of the world. Dr Dharma also observes that the Office Of Alternative Medicine (OAM) in 1994 reported; over a period of 25 years. Benson and colleagues have developed a large body of research on the benefits of meditation and because of this, meditation in general and the relaxtion response in specific, have slowly moved from alternative to mainstream, although they are still overlooked by conventional doctors.

It will not be long before this happens in australia and other developed countries. Throughout India And Asia, yoga, chi gung, tai chi and correspondingly, meditation, is a way of life for a large proportion of people.

According to Dr Krisnan Chopra, there are four levels of consciousness: wakefulness, dreaming, deep sleep and meditation. Meditation is a deliberate way of allowing the mind to transcend, that is, to go beyond it's usual limits and attain a igher level of consciousness. Meditation is inner wakefulness without the constant activity of thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations - pure inner calm and bliss.

Meditation is going within, with the intention of knowing oneself. The goal of medit! ation is to attain oneness with cosmic and divine consciouness. This is achieved by transcending obstacles of the mind and the body. In deep meditation a person can achieve such single mindedness tat the senses are withdrawn and oblivious to external interferences.

Yogananda (a revered indian sage) stated that prayer is talking to god whilst meditation is listening. Sai baba expanded on this and explains that man has an erratic "monkey mind" that jumps from one thought to another. It is natural for the mind to wander ; we have to train the mind to be one-pointed.

Humankind is the embodiment of the cosmic and divine consciouness. To know god, one has to start by knowing oneself. Meditation is the experience of divine consciouness witin self.

What we "experience" is real, whereas a description of that "experience" is a non-experience, so it is essential not to intellectualise or analyze, bu to experience! However in order to further understand meditation some theoretical aspects of the of the subject must first be examined.

By becoming mindful you can become happier

Posted: 29 Dec 2011 02:00 AM PST

Article by Leslie Hutchyson

We all know what pace the world in going along at these days. It seems to be going along at a mile a minute. Well our brains are no different. I am sure you have found yourself thinking about things in the past over and over again - well don't worry you are not alone. Everyone has bouts of dwelling on the past. This can become a problem for many people if they are ill equipped emotionally to deal with the pressures the mind can inflict on them.

The thing to realise about the mind is this is where emotions start. The funny thing about emotions is that unlike most thoughts we can actually feel them physically. Negative thoughts, anxiety, unhappiness etc produce real bodily feelings that we sense. We need to remain aware of what we feel and why we are feeling like this.

When it comes to decision making self awareness is very important. When you think about it if we are not in control of ourselves how can we take control of our own destiny and circumstances? As with any other extreme though an extreme amount of self awareness can be detrimental. It can cause us to be too fearful of the consequence of taking action. 'Extreme self awareness' can lead us to being overly judgemental of our experiences and actions. If you want to get the balance right help is at hand.

We have all heard of Zen Buddhism and that is where the concept of mindfulness has its origins. It is a magnificent, beautiful way of seeing the world around us. Mindfulness is the art of living in the present moment without passing judgement on whatever experience we are living through. While the concept is simple, implementing it is challenging and requires self discipline. Teach yourself to focus your attention on the moment you are experiencing. Avoid passing judgment or applying any subjective thoughts and feelings. Simply observe what is happening both in your mind and externally around you.

This attitude allows your mind to be cleansed and refreshed. You can begin straight away through the following exercise: ! The next time you meet someone you know try to see him/ her through fresh eyes. Try to see him/her as though you have never met before. Try this exercise with family members, colleagues and friends. This can be done in any situation or environment - whether you are in a familiar or not so familiar environment. One of the most important benefits of mindfulness in terms of personal contentment and success comes from knowing whether you are thinking something that is unhelpful or unrealistic. Being mindful means learning to experience your thoughts without passing judgement on their 'truth'. Considering that many of the negative thoughts you experience when you are emotionally upset tend to be distorted and unhelpful. It is much better to let these thoughts go, identify them as natural symptoms of a particular emotional state. Thoughts and emotions work in tandem with one another. The sooner you come to the point where you can view them objectively the better your personal feelings will become.

Increase your familiarity with the thoughts that enter your head when you feel down and depressed will make it easier for you to recognise them as thoughts rather than concrete facts. Once you have become familiar with the dark side of emotions you are further equipped to cope and manage negative thoughts in reality. You can practice mindfulness in the most mundane of everyday settings and help to enhance you r appreciation of the pleasures of life such as eating and listening to music.

Discover the art of meditation and supercharge your mental abilities

Posted: 29 Dec 2011 01:00 AM PST

Article by James Schreiber

Results of ongoing research shed new light on the mechanisms of meditation. Recent studies now confirm that you don't have to be a monk to enjoy deep relaxation, increased attention span, better cognition and other health benefits meditation is offering.

Until recently, it was believed that one has to spend many years training in meditation in order to see any real and lasting improvements in health. However, both everyday experience and psychology research are now starting to agree that our mind may be easier to cognitively train than we previously thought. In fact, just four days of practicing mindfulness meditation for 20 minutes might be enough to boost your mental abilities.

Meditation and our health

In a study performed at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Fadel Zeidan and his co-authors compared 63 student volunteers, who were divided into two groups. The first group listened to a book being read aloud, while the participants in the second group received meditation training.

After just four days, the people in the meditation group experienced a boost in their cognitive abilities and scored higher averages than the other group on all cognitive tests - in some cases as much as ten times.

"The profound improvements that we found after just four days of meditation training are really surprising," said Zeidan, who is a post-doctoral researcher at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. "It goes to show that the mind is, in fact, easily changeable and highly influenced, especially by meditation."

Meditation can also help you increase your attention span. As it turns out, some studies now suggest that our attention doesn't have a fixed capacity and that it can be vastly increased by directed mental training.

Katherine MacLean and her co-advisor, Clifford Saron, wanted to see how meditation affects our mental abilities and what they found was remarkable. They selected 60 people to study meditation for three months at a retreat in Col! orado. D uring the retreat, all participants took a 30-minute computer test to evaluate how well they could sustain visual attention and make fine visual distinctions. At the end of the study, they were able to focus on task for a much longer period of time and were better able to distinguish small differences between things they saw on the screen.

If that wasn't enough, a study published in the journal Pain proved that meditation can reduce the emotional impact of pain. "Meditation is becoming increasingly popular as a way to treat chronic illness such as the pain caused by arthritis," explains Dr. Christopher Brown from The University of Manchester.

Scientists found that advanced meditators show unusual activity during anticipation of pain in the prefrontal cortex. As a result, those people anticipate pain less and find pain less unpleasant.

As studies previously reported, mindfulness meditation favorably alters brain structure in just eight weeks. However, it is usually recommended to keep practicing in order to fully boost your mental abilities. You won't see all the benefits overnight, just as a single visit to the gym won't make you an athlete.

Become Mindful - Become Happy

Posted: 29 Dec 2011 12:00 AM PST

Article by David McCall

Thinking on the past and trying to discover what could have been done better on the road to success can be aproblem for some, they are not able to cope with the emotional pressures the mind can bring into play.Emotions - these all begin in the mind. Remember feeling sad, happy, angry, anxious, you didn't just thinkabout these emotions, they came with sensations, our bodies feel these emotions quite often intensely. Remainaware of how you are feeling and why, self awareness is important here, you would not want to make crucial decisions if you were not in control of yourself.

Lets discuss self awareness. Before making important decisions which require a certain level of selfawareness remember, once you feel in control of your own circumstances decision making is easier. if yourself awareness is felt to highly it can have an adverse effect and leave you feeling unable to commit to thoseimportant actions. The key is balance, some help is at hand.

Being mindful originated from the teachings of Zen Buddhism, put very simply it means living in the moment withan open mind that makes no judgement on that moment. A very simple concept but it will challenge your selfdiscipline. Just observe what is happening in your mind and around you.

The mind is viewed and described as a machine that judges by the people who teach mindfulness. Recall the almostnatural way we arrive at judgements on situatons and people. Way back in the time of our ancestors those judgementswhere a matter of life or death, eat or starve, whether to stay and fight or run away. Those hunter gatherer dayshave mellowed some what, we see things as either good or bad or neutral. Being mindful would encourage you to observe everything with the same attention level without judgement.

Try this out and allow yur mind to be refreshed with a calm state of mind that will only apply rational actions.Start now with this exercise; the very next person you encounter look at them through fresh eyes, put everythingyou know about them! and the ir abilities to one side. Try this with anyone, family, friends, work associates in whatever situation you meet them.

The importance of mindfulness on a personal level, comes from understanding whether you are thinking somethingthat will help you realistically or hinder you. Learn to experience your thoughts without making a judgementon their validity. If you consider that most of the negative thoughts you have experienced, tend to distort yourmindset and did not help you at all... Let these thoughts go. Do this by identifying them as symptoms which youvisualise as being disgarded.

Learn to view your thoughts and emotions objectively this will improve your overall contentment. When you feellow and dispirited recognise the negative thoughts as just that thoughts, not actual facts. Face the darkerside of your mindset and emotions, and deal with them in reality.Just as with any new learning experience, practice mindfulness. enjoy such simple pleasures as eating, listening tomusic, relaxing in your garden, to name but a few.

Buddhist Meditation

Article by YogaTips4u

Buddhist meditation for mindfulnessBuddhist Meditation is the dissolution of thoughts in Eternal awareness or pure consciousness without objectification, knowing without thinking, merging self into infinity. Establishing the culture of mindfulness is one of the fundamental teachings of Buddhist Meditation. Sensing the movements of the body, the always-changing states of the mind, is to be cultivated in order that their true nature could be realized. Here we don't consider our bodily and mental perception by connecting with our self. Rather we try to see them as they actually are, subjected to law of case and effects that comes from it, a continuous flow of successive phases of consciousness developing and passing away in response to external stimuli. All the incidents happening around us should be realized without staining it with our own philosophy, feelings and emotional consideration; this means there is the need of strict objectivity."Buddhist Meditation" for disconnecting from self Selfness and egotism are twin dangers in our path of success. If these parameters could not be erased from a person, meditation type practiced by him is regarded unsuccessful. In Buddhist psychology, man is credited by his actions and a tree is weighed by its fruits. In the truest sense the continuity of kamma, which they represent, are the only claim he can make to any persistent identity. By giving careful attention to our body and mind breaking down the illusion of self is possible; and not only that, it also spilt away the attachment to external objects that we sense in our surrounding, as a consequence, there is neither the "self" that crawl inside us nor any object of crawling. Such aspiration needs time and tireless patience every day, with firm hope to find destination of transformed life.Buddhist Meditations for increasing concentration Objectivity comes from detachment of bias and gives clear thinking, clear conclusion; it enables a man to handle a given situation without bias, personal or imported, and! to act at that moment with plenty of courage and discretion. Concentration is another reward of objectivity, the capability to focus the mind continuously and keep it steadily fixed on a single point and this is the great key of achievement in any performance. Our mind is very stubborn to tame, it is like fluctuating flame at the tip of burning candle but when it is completely under our control, it is the most powerful, much influential instrument in this entire cosmic world. He who has mastered his own mind is, in fact, master of the 3 Worlds- Heaven, Hell and Earth. Here, First achievement is, we are without fear. Feeling of intense fear originate, then proceeds to flourish because we associate mind and body with our "self"; so any harms on our mind and body undoubtedly cast its shadow on "self". But those who understand that all these happenings are merely the manifestation of cause and effect relationship or object and stimuli relationship, swiftly break down this illusion of attachment with self, consequently fear of death or some miss-happenings are permanently removed. He remains undisturbed and exactly alike in success and failure, unaffected by insult or appraise. The only thing he fears is demeritorious action, and as his detachment with self and cosmic matters increases, he becomes less and less liable to do and to feel demeritorious deeds.

A Journey Through Psychic Experiences

Posted: 28 Dec 2011 09:00 PM PST

Article by Dr. Shanker Adawal

A Journey: Through Psychic Experiences

Genuine Psychic Power may go either with the most unworldly and spirited minded nature, or with a thoroughly worldly and material- minded temperament and even mercenaries. There can be no question that genuine spirituality like that of great sages and Rishis and Munis, helps to develop the faculties of Esoteric-Vision and Adhyatmic mystical perceptions. That, what are unforeseen and otherwise scientifically yet unexplained phenomena?

Nevertheless, Clairvoyance, quite real clairvoyance, and other power of Super consciousness and Extra-Sensory Perceptions (ESP) and even Telekinetic and Teleplastic gifts, may be developed to a starting extent, to produce striking parameters, in people whose only activation motives are material gains or vanity or both.

There are, for instances, during my professional consultancy, many cases of people experimenting with a view to foresight, whether Psychic Faculties can assist in gambling activities; like in backing Race-Horses that will win, or betting or winning numbers at Routlette and Black Jack, in Casinos. Also there are others imitating to be great Juglars and Magicians like Houndini and sorcar performing vanishing, materializing and replacing Acts in public gathering. Among them, some attire in saffron, exhibiting Crow-Next Hair-style and pretending to be Swami's and Bhagwans. They produce Wrist watches made in Japan and Holy ashes. Their Psychic developments are through Pisach Tantric Siddhi's and Na-Paak llms. These appeals to Psuedo-intel-lectuals and unrational gullible. These are the degenerates in our society with shady character. They have remote control political and multimillionaire backing, for performing Miracles, hoodwinking the innocents and poor publics. They use the different techniques to Mesmerise and Hypnotise the mass, and make look that their forecasts are as ordained by God, himself.

Only very rarely, and to a very limited extent, will discarnate spirit, help be given, in such ! attempts . The more highly developed Spirited People (and the others have not much increased their Earth-Powers), will refuse to turn and 'Honest-Gamble', where both sides are talking a chance, into a swindle; where one party would really be taking a chance at all.

Faith-Healing and Diving Holistic Healing may be inborn, hereditary or suddenly appear in a person, but potent individuals can be taught these techniques thought Hatha Yoga and Yantra. Mantra and Tantra. It may be relative in advancement to this birth and previous births Kaima, Karma, also genetically hereditary.

The nineteenth and twentieth Century has experience and recorded Great Mystics. These were those who had evolved a Super-Conscious Souls- like Sri Ramkrishna, Vivekanand, Aurobindo, Yogananda and Dr. Shivanand. While the Theosophical Society which was influenced by Cultural Renaissance followed by Raja Ram Mohan Roy and Naba- Bidhan of Keshav Chandra Sen of Classic Brahmo Samaj. Madame Blavatsky and Annie Beasants were phychic- Clairvoyants and along with Col. Olcott influenced the Westerners in Oriental Mystism J.K.Krishanmurthy, Bahais, Gurdjeiff and Rajneesh were psychic-Philosophers, well-read but obvious reasons more often misinterpreted. Many Sufi Saints and wandering bails also exerted their spiritual processes, from centuries in the India sub-continent. Khwaja Garib Nawaz, Gospak, Shirdi Saibaba, Magdum Sha and Mira Dattar are such Sufi Saints, while purnadas are other Eastern Bauls sang and communicated with the almighty with their ektara.

But an earth-person's own 'PSI' faculty, without the deliberate help of discarnate entities, does necessarily influence to some extent all the guesses random shots, etc. and impulses to gamble or refrain form gambling at a given enough to be a reliable source of profit or eliminate risks of loss, but enough to improve the 'odds' somewhat. We know of people dreaming winners when not betting, but getting losers when they backed their dream horses.

Bhakti-Sadhana or true devotio! n toward s Self-Realisation by mundane-detachment and gradual detrainment is ideal form of practice, according to me; so that process of renunciation unhampered leading to perfection towards Psychic Development. Just like 'Super-saturation point'. It uniform homogenous solution. Similarly excess has to be refrained to get pragmatics result, without contradictions for after side-effects. Virility and resistances to temptations has to be increased, so that the threshold is so strong, it becomes a positive barrier for the virulent negative force which are then rendered inactive and neutralized. Osho Rajneesh propagated the opposite or transiently mediation of Maharshi Yogi, where concentration helps Psi' development or what may be called 'Tao of Physics'. He called it: 'No Mind'. A state of absolute vaccumness, where the mind ceases to think and there is no disturbance due to thorough emptiness. Thus contrary to Dr, Sigmund Freud's theory of supra-consciousness and sub consciousness, Rajneesh preached the uniqueness of Omnipresence through absolute Sate of Static- borrowed from Zen Buddhism.

While hypnotism, mesmerism and telepathy, are subtle psychic development, astral projection, regression and different divine, spiritual and faith healings are activated through-aura and human energy field. The latter are advance stages of same faculty.

While Sri Shyama Charan Lahiri and Telingia Baba practiced and taught the quintessence of Tantia-Raja-Tantra and Maha-Nirvana Tantra; it was Sir john Wood-roff (Arthar Avalon) the High court Justice of Madras and Calcutta, of British India; who translated, assimilated and gave purport to them. His famous books, in reference to Oriental scriptures are: Serpent Power or Kundalini Sakti, Sakti and Sakta, Hymas to Kali and Introduction to Tantra. Phyllis Berger: The Happiest Place on Earth

I'm going to go to Disneyland by myself. Maybe that doesn't strike anyone as odd, but at my age I think the only people who do that are the people who decorate their homes in a Mickey Mouse motif and wear Pluto sweatshirts. I am not one of those people. What I am is a mother whose kids had the nerve to grow up.

In reality, one of my children is still in college and the other two are momentarily living at home but on the cusp of moving out. But let's face it, they're gone. So Disneyland looms as a symbol of a time when I was needed on a moment by moment basis, when I wasn't supposed to be thinking about myself, it didn't have to be my time in life, I was happy to have it be their time, and I wasn't forced to ask the big, "what's it all about" questions. I knew what it was about. It was about tee ball and soccer, ballet and play-dates, family dinners and vacations, sibling fights and total chaos. I loved it. I miss it.

I suppose it started when, one by one, they turned 16. Living in Los Angeles, turning 16 raised tons of issues -- do we buy a car, what kind of car, would I ever feel safe again waiting for the sound of the car in the driveway, could I find routes where they could drive across the country, just taking surface streets and never having to drive on the freeways? But the unexpected issue that turning 16 created for me was that, now, they could drive with their friends to Disneyland without me. Up until then, when the kids were old enough to go there with a gaggle of friends and a minimum of supervision, but not old enough to drive, I'd be the parent that would wildly raise my hand and volunteer to go. There were many treks to Disneyland -- sometimes as many as three a year with a different group of friends for each of my kids -- and I never tired of it. We'd leave in time to get there for the opening of the park and many churros and chocolate covered bananas later, we'd close the park after the fireworks.

Then one day, my daughter said, "we have a day off next week and Alex, Tessa and I want to go to Disneyland." I said, "great" and proceeded to tell her that I might have to move some things around so she should let me know what time they wanted to leave that day. And then I got the stare.
"Tessa"s going to drive," she said.
"Tessa? Oh no. That's a lot of freeway driving and she! 's only had her license for what....?"
"Eight months," said my daughter. "She's driven on the freeway a lot."
"But her car. Does it have passenger side airbags? What if I just drove you and hung out and then drove you home?"
"Not happening, mom. Her car is fine."
"I don't like it," I said.
And I knew that the fact that I didn't like any of it, including missing out on Space Mountain, wasn't going to mean much anymore.

When I was seven, living in New York, my family went on a vacation to Los Angeles. Disneyland was newly opened and although it's a hazy memory now, I remember that it was perfect in every way because it was all about just being happy. Kid-happy. Happy, now that I'm an adult, revolves around checking my DVR and discovering that I have several episodes of Project Runway that I haven't yet watched or going to the gym and finding out that the aerobics class was canceled and I'm free to take myself out for bacon and eggs instead. That's how happy looks today. It doesn't seem so odd to me, that unlike my friends in the adult world, or even my husband who was always relieved to have me be the chauffeur on these Disneyland excursions, I am still excited by the idea of Disneyland and the fact that when I'm there, I really do feel pretty darn happy.

So, sometime very soon, I'm going to go by myself and try to figure out exactly what it is about that place that makes me feel so positively sunny about everything. I hope I don't turn out to be one of those weird old ladies who strike up conversations with young mothers standing in line waiting for the Peter Pan ride, reminiscing with them about how I used to have little ones with me too. Maybe I should just avoid Fantasyland altogether. But I'm going and I'm hoping old Walt had it in his heart to think about senior discounts for those of us going solo just to remember old times.
