Do you keep on turning and tossing in bed? Do you feel extremely tired but still fail to sleep? Do you feel the same fatigue after getting up in the morning? If the answers to all these questions are in affirmative, its time you need to think about your sleep. Sleep deprivation is a very common problem that the world is facing today. The amount of stress and tension in life is steeply rising and the effects of the same are being reflected in the sleeping patterns of people. Without proper sleep, it is very difficult to function properly. There is a sense of restlessness, agitation and lethargy. The best way to overcome this problem is through meditation for sleep. Meditation CDs are also available that help in the meditation process leading to proper sound sleep. If you go to a doctor for consultation, he might suggest some medications for the problem. But there is no need to pop in pills unnecessarily when there is a natural and more effective way to deal with sleep disorders particularly sleeplessness. There are various techniques of meditation for sleep, which should be done just before going to bed. These are very simple things and will not need much time. You just need a peaceful and tranquil environment.Meditation CDs are a great way of inducing sleep. Various kinds of soft music are recorded in the CD and that can soothe your nerves and help your mind to relax. This is mainly preferable for people who like a soft music being played while going to sleep. It might be a problem to a person who is sleeping with you in the same room. In that case, you can use a headphone or an earphone and fall asleep in no time. Apart from music CDs, there are a hemi-sync meditation CDs too that have binaural beats recorded in them. These beats are also very effective in relaxing the mind, which helps in deep sleep.Though meditation CDs are very useful instruments for inducing sleep for insomniacs, there are some meditation for sleep that have a longer effect on the mind and will allow the person to enjoy a sou! nd sleep and wake up refreshed. Abdominal breathing is a way of Meditation for sleep. In this meditation technique, one needs to breathe from the abdomen and full attention has to be paid to the breathing patterns. This can be done at night in a quiet, dimly lit room and while listening to some meditation CDs (some soft music will also do). This helps in complete relaxation of the mind and body thus helping you get good sleep at night. This meditation can also be done during the daytime.Guided imagery is also a great meditation for sleep. In this, one has to think of a nice place or a scene, which helps him/her to calm down and relax the nerves. There is no fixed thing that one has to think in this. It can be anything and everything. Guided imagery can also be done with the help of meditation CDs. Apply these meditation techniques and go off to sleep peacefully.

SPIRITUAL QUANTUM PHYSICS AND ESOTERIC ASTROLOGY

Posted: 28 Dec 2011 12:01 PM PST

Article by Ellis Peterson

SPIRITUAL QUANTUM PHYSICS AND ESOTERIC ASTROLOGY

It is time to take a look at esoteric astrology. Our human body has had an immense period of evolution. We are in a slow process of gradual up building which is still continuing and which will make each generation better.

As we rotate through each new 2000 year cycle we are presented with a new energy which helps us evolve. The Age of Aquarius now floods the planet and all its inhabitants with the powerful energy of Uranus.

Whether we work with this powerful energy consciously or not it will initiate great changes in each of us as well as humanity as a whole.

It is time to get a better understanding of our finer vehicles and our inner organs which will feel the effect of the energies of Uranus.

Let us start with the astrological correspondence of our ductless glands. They are under the ruler of the life-giving Sun and the Great Benefic Jupiter.

Spiritual Quantum Physics tells us that ALL is alive and ALL is connected. The Sun and Jupiter are alive and they are connected spiritually to our glands.

We must now carefully note that our individual glands are also under the ruler ship of other planets as well.

There are seven ductless glands that the ancient occultists called "the seven roses."These seven ductless glands are:

The Pituitary Gland, ruled by UranusThe Pineal Gland, ruled by NeptuneThe Thyroid Gland, ruled by MercuryThe Thymus Gland, ruled by VenusThe Spleen, ruled by the SunThe two Adrenals, ruled by Jupiter

The Thymus gland, the Spleen and the two Adrenals are connected and effect our emotions. The Pituitary body and the Pineal gland are correlated with the spiritual side of our nature. The Thyroid gland forms the link between.

The Spleen is the entrance gate of the solar force which circulates through our body, without which we cannot live. It is governed by the Sun. The two Adrenals, under the ruler ship of Jupiter exert a calming, quieting effect on our emotional! nature. Venus and her higher octave Uranus, govern the functions of nutrition and growth.

We are now in the Age of Aquarius whose energies work through the Pituitary body. This Age will aid awakened man in his efforts to penetrate the veil into the invisible worlds.

No one can really and truly observe the physiological functions of any organs under such conditions as exist in the laboratory, on the operating table, or in the dissection and vivisection chambers.

To get an adequate understanding one must see these organs exercising their physiological functions in a living body, and can only be done by spiritual sight.

Now, in the Aquarian Age the Sun will begin to transmit highly intellectual vibrations which will increase our intuitions, premonitions, and telepathic transmissions. This will be done by the awakening of the Pituitary ruled by Uranus.

Welcome to the New Age.

Teen Obesity Tied to Early Childhood Bond with Mom

The strength of the bond between a toddler and his mother influences his likelihood of becoming obese as a teen, a new study says.

The obesity rate was more than twice as high among teens who in early childhood had poor-quality relationships with their mothers, compared with those with better relationships.

The researchers said their work suggests that areas of the brain that control emotions and responses to stress, as well as appetite and energy balance, work together to influence the likelihood that a child will be obese. Moreover, obesity-prevention efforts should include strategies to improve the mother-child bond, they said.

The study does not support that idea that mothers are to blame for children's obesity, the researchers said. Instead, "Societally, we need to think about how we can support better-quality maternal-child relationships because that could have an impact on child health," said study researcher Sarah Anderson, assistant professor of epidemiology at Ohio State University.

The findings were published online Monday (Dec. 26) in the journal Pediatrics.

Growing bonds

The researchers analyzed data from nearly 1,000 children from nine states who had taken part in the Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development, which is a long-term study of children born in 1991. Kids were considered to be obese teenagers if at age 15 their body mass index (BMI) was among the highest 5 percent of children.

The researchers had assessed the bonds between the children and their mothers when the kids were 15-months old, 2-years old and 3-years old by watching 15-minute play sessions, and also observing the children's reactions to being briefly separated from their mothers.

The findings showed that the lower the quality of the relationship in terms of the child's emotional security and the mother's sensitivity, the higher the risk that a child would be obese at age 15 years.

The researchers rated 241 children as having a poor-quality maternal-child relationship during early childhood, and 26.1 percent of these children became obese teenagers. Among those with the highest quality relationships, the obesity rate was 13 percent.

"It is possible that childhood obesity could be influenced by interventions that try to improve the emotional bonds between mothers and children rather than focusing only on children's food intake and activity," Anderson said.

The association between early childhood experiences and teen obesity has origins in the brain, according to the study.

"Animal studies have shown that stress preferentially increasesconsumption of highly palatable foods, and eating these foods acts to calm the stress-perceiving areas of the brain," the researchers wrote in their study.

"Sensitive parenting increases the likelihood that a child will have a secure pattern of attachment and develop a healthy response to stress," Anderson said. A child's response to stress response can influence how well she sleeps and whether she eats in response to emotional distress.

Previous studies have shown that children's level of physical activity, diet, rate of maturation and the BMIs of their parents also influence their risk of obesity.

What can parents do?

Psychologists describe securely attached children as those who rely on their parents as a "safe haven," which allows them to explore their environments freely, adapt easily to new people and be comforted in stressful situations, according to the researchers. Toddlers who are insecurely attached tend to have experienced negative or unpredictable parenting and may respond to stress with extreme anger, fear or anxiety, or avoid or refuse interactions with others.

Parents help their children develop a healthy response to stress by protecting children from extreme levels of stress, responding supportively and consistently to normal levels of stress, and modeling behavioral responses to stress, according to the researchers.

"Interventions are effective in increasing maternal sensitivity and enhancing young children's ability to regulate their emotions, but the effect of these interventions on children's obesity risk is not known, and we think it would be worth investigating," Anderson said.

Pass it on: A healthy bond with parents can reduce children's stress levels and lower their chances of later becoming obese.

It's important to pick somebody that's knowledgeable of their area, is trustworthy, and for most tourists, it's important to pick somebody affordable. Ask the tour guide how long they will work in a day. It isn't uncommon for the tourist to forget that the tour guide also has a life to live. If you expect them to be with you all day, you better be sure that they have agreed to that.

Situated between the Baiyun Hill in the north and the Zhujiang (Pearl River) Delta Plain in the south. The city is 125 kilometers northwest of Hong Kong on the Pearl River. As a tourist spot, China offers a limitless variety of spectacular scenery and historical wonders. Generally May, September and October are ideal for touring anywhere in the country. Moreover October is ideal to travel anywhere and any region in the country.

The terracotta army of Xian, Buddhist caves, temples of Tibet, Great Wall of China, the ancient places of Beijing and Shanghai are some of the most popular attractions in China. Trying to Improve Your Willpower is a HUGE Mistake - Here's What to Do Instead

Posted: 28 Dec 2011 09:00 AM PST

When we're failing to reach our goals, we often blame a lack of willpower:

I've gotta try harder.

If only I could stay focused.

I need to be more determined.

I have to be self-disciplined.

The problem is, willpower alone won't get you far. You know that, really; you've seen the times in your own life when you tried to be determined and self-disciplined ... but when you still failed to reach your goal.

Maybe you tried to lose weight – but ended up scoffing junk food every evening.

Maybe you wanted to save money – but you couldn't resist that shiny new laptop.

Maybe you were going to take up exercise – but you just couldn't manage to get up early enough to hit the gym before work.

Every time, you probably blamed yourself. You felt lazy or stupid for not managing to stick to your plans. Perhaps you looked at friends or colleagues who were succeeding in similar goals – and you felt sure that they had some huge reserves of willpower which you lacked.

You felt like you just weren't cut out for success.

The truth is, willpower is hugely over-rated. We don't generally achieve things by gritting our teeth and struggling on manfully.

Why Willpower Doesn't Work
There are plenty of times when you've used willpower successfully. Maybe you:
  • Resisted the lure of that chocolate cookie
  • Made that difficult phone call
  • Tidied up a messy room
  • Said "no thanks" to a third glass of wine
...and so on.

The problem is, willpower is a limited resource. You can't stick to a diet by sheer willpower, day after day after day. And you've probably n! oticed t hat on days when you've been trying really hard to be patient or to stick with a tough task, you're more likely to crack and fail in a difference area.

So, if you try to improve your willpower – forcing yourself to rely on it, or even putting yourself in situations where you'll be tested – then you're just setting yourself up to fail.

What Works Instead
We're all creatures of habit. We tend to take the easiest route, or the one which seems most attractive – we need to apply our willpower to do anything else. Our daily environment (home, work, etc) makes far more of a difference than most of us realize. For instance, if you've got a vending machine at work, you're probably going to end up buying more snacks than you otherwise would.

Instead of fighting against your habits and environment, get them to work with you!

That means doing these sorts of things:
  • Keep those tempting candy bars out of your house. If they're sitting within easy reach, chances are, you'll grab one without even thinking. But if you have to go to the store every time you want candy, your natural laziness will usually stop you…

  • Make it hard to access distractions on your computer. Do you always end up playing flash games or checking Facebook when you should be working? Then block those websites. If you want to stop checking email first thing, then don't let the program load up as soon as your computer is switched on.

  • Work exercise into your day. Instead of trying to get up at 5am, or drag yourself out in the evening, how about going for a brisk walk during your lunch break?

  • Hide the TV remote so that you don't switch the television on as soon as you get home from work.

  • Build a habit. If you're trying to establish something new in your life – like reading for 30 minutes! every d ay – then find a consistent time and place for it. Once something becomes just another part of your routine, it's easy to keep it up.

  • Chase goals that excite you. Of course, however awesome your goal, it's not going to inspire you every minute of every day – but it's much easier to achieve something which you want than something which you just feel you should do.
Has willpower ever worked for you? If it has, let us know about it! And if not, what went wrong – could changing your habits and your environment help, instead?

A huge chasm

Posted: 28 Dec 2011 08:00 AM PST

In Buddhism, sooner than later, one makes the discovery that what characterizes 'philosophy', to put it bluntly, is giving thought to what is essentially unthinkable, which is the very substance of thought. From this we could say that all philosophical thinking is very much like scaffolding set against a building.  Even though such thinking seems to be connected with what the scaffolding is against—it really isn't.

Here we come to the part that separates the mystic that is, the genuine Meditation practitioner, from the philosopher.  This is the part that cannot be studied in our universities except to study the history of mysticism which is rather deceptive if one expects to become a mystic for doing so.  There exists a huge chasm between the study of 'philosophies' and the complete realization of the very substance of thought.

One final thought.  Buddhist clergy are no better than the philosopher who won't give up thinking about the substance of thought.  They are caught up in the ritualization of Buddhism so as to suggest that by practicing rituals, such as the fetish of sitting, one actually advances into mysterious world of substance (tathata).

Learn How To Get A Sense Of Relaxation In Nature

Posted: 28 Dec 2011 07:00 AM PST

Article by Mccollins Spano

Relaxation of each of your body and thoughts is crucial if you wish to find out your true nature in nature. Tension inside your physique blocks the connection between your sense of self as well as your authentic self.

In our contemporary society there's a great deal of tension caused by the nature of the program in which we reside. There is a lot of stress because of time pressures, financial constraints as well as relationship issues. All this stress blocks the underlying natural rest that is a part of our authentic self.

Our true self does not grasp onto tension in either the physique or even the mind. Rather there is a profound sense of rest and resulting feeling of oneness with all objects.

When I initially enter the wilderness during a nature immersion I usually do a short relaxation meditation in order to let go of any residual stress that I may be keeping onto. What I do is scan throughout my body and just discover any tension inside my muscle tissues. Then when I come across tension I just allow it go, usually on an out-breath.

This letting go is simply like letting go of a rock in my hand. When I let go of a rock it drops to the ground. Similarly with stress in my physique. I just let go of the stress within my body and let it to drop towards the ground. Then the earth can use this 'tension' elsewhere, exactly where it's required.

After I have scanned through my physique and let go of all tension I usually notice that my physique has entered right into a profound feeling of rest. Once my body is relaxed I then scan through my thoughts and just let go of any stress that is inside my thoughts and allow it to drop towards the earth. This really is how I let go of tension when out in nature.

When I let go of tension such as this I notice that the calm state allows me to become more aware to the existing second. I discover that my five senses of sight, listening to, smell, the taste and feeling naturally become more acute when within this calm state of mind! and bod y. It's like I reside much more in the moment.

While in this relaxed state I listen to more birds, see many more animals, smell much more of the earth's smells, taste the various tastes along the wind and really feel the various sensations all through my physique. This amplification of the 5 senses while relaxed also permits me to enter in to the spirit dimension a lot more effortlessly to feel the subtle pull of spirit and also the life power.

Benefits of Yoga for Overall Health and Stress Relief

Posted: 28 Dec 2011 06:00 AM PST

Article by Stephen Daniels

Yoga combines mental focus and physical exercise to help its practitioners achieve peace of both mind and body. Its stress- and anxiety-reducing properties are well-documented. In India, as well as in many other places in the world, yoga is studied using scientific methods and used to treat many mental and physical ailments. Yogic science seeks to authenticate cause and effect and develop principles based upon impartial observations. Yogic masters with credibility must have an extensive scientific education in the biological sciences and physics, among other disciplines.

Practicing yoga involves learning a series of postures to hold and meditate through, while at the same time paying special attention to one's breathing - inhaling during specific movements and exhaling with others. From a physical perspective, yoga improves flexibility, strength and endurance while the carefully studied positions develop and promote lubrication of various ligaments and tendons in the body. Besides the mental benefit of stress reduction, many view it as a way to enhance one's spirituality.

Yoga is also considered a body-mind kind of alternative and complementary medicine, enhancing the practitioner's overall health and providing numerous other possible health benefits including:

* Stress reduction: Using quiet, precise movements causes the person to focus on the movement and poses that require concentration and balance and can draw one's focus from a chaotic busy day.

* Improved fitness: Learning and refining yoga poses helps improve flexibility, balance, strength, and range of motion, which makes it less likely that one will injure him or herself while performing routine daily activities or other physical endeavors.

* Managing chronic health conditions: This form of exercise often relieves fatigue, mood, and sleep problems which in turn can help relieve some health problems such as pain, depression, anxiety, insomnia, and some studies suggest it can reduce discomfort in those suff! ering fr om diseases such as cancer. It can also help reduce one's heart rate and blood pressure.

* Weight loss: Through deep stretching, yoga detoxifies the muscles which can, in turn, cleanse the body and promote weight loss. The toning of muscles through poses can also reduce inches on the waistline and increase muscle mass, which assists in weight loss. Through its stress reduction benefits, yoga can also help someone hoping to reduce stress-related eating.

It has become clear, even in western medicine, that physical and mental health go hand in hand, and a calm and a harmonious mind is said to be one of the greatest health benefits of Yoga.

Achieving Spiritual Health

Posted: 28 Dec 2011 05:00 AM PST

Article by Blair Kidd

It happens that during periods of high stress our body's potassium levels deplete very fast but eating a banana will help re-balance those levels without having to use prescription drugs. According to a study found in The New England Journal of Medicine, if bananas are a part of a regular diet you just might reduce your risk of a stroke and dying by about forty percent. If you happen to suffer from leg cramps in the middle of the night you may want to eat two bananas during the course of the day, one mid-morning and another at a mid-evening snack. This is much cheaper than filling a prescription for a potassium supplement.A good way to cure a hangover would be to drink a banana milk shake sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and the honey helps to build up blood-sugar levels that were depleted from the body; the milk in the shake soothes and re-hydrates the body. To preserve bananas you can put them in the refrigerator; the outside peel gets dark but the banana itself remains firm and delicious. These are just a few health benefits of bananas.Spiritual health is generally an overlooked aspect of healing. However, it is actually the ultimate goal of holistic medicine, and leads to a heightened awareness of the Divine Spirit referred to by all religions. It doesn't matter what name you give it. What matters is that you come to know and attune yourself to its guidance in all areas of your daily life. Doing so will reduce your feelings of fear, and provide you with a greater capacity for loving yourself and others unconditionally. It will also help you reconnect to your special talents and gifts so that you can use them to fulfill your life's purpose."Being consciously aware of the role Spirit plays in your life, being spiritually healthy also means being intimately connected to your spouse, partner, family, friends, and community, resulting in social health, as well. Spiritual and social health are interconnected, since it is through our committed relationships that we find the greates! t opport unities for spiritual growth and for learning how to receive and impart unconditional love. The observance of spiritual and religious traditions, working with spiritual counselors and support groups are common methods of creating spiritual and social health, as are the opportunities afforded us through our friendships, marriage, intimate relationships, and parenting. A variety of self-care approaches, including prayer, meditation, gratitude, and spending time within nature, can further deepen your awareness of yourself as a spiritual, socially-connected being, and are increasingly being recommended by conventional and holistic physicians alike.Fire is also an important component of the vision quests undertaken by Native Americans to connect with the Great Spirit and discover their life purpose.Of all nature's elements, perhaps the closest expression of Spirit is the air. Clean, fresh air is essential to health on all levels, and practicing conscious breathing as outlined above is a potent self-care method for restoring energy and making you more aware of the power of Spirit as it flows through you.Regular exposure to each of these four elements can help you become more conscious of how Spirit's loving intelligence sustains the world, while more deeply recognizing your place within it.

Mindfulness Training:Profound Techniques For Real Guided Meditation Seekers

Posted: 28 Dec 2011 05:00 AM PST

Article by Donald Barrett

The concept of meditation has reached a stage of widespread popularity. Most people around the world know about its benefits, but only vaguely. Even as there are many CDs, books and magazines to provide ample information on the subject, the compatibility of different meditation techniques always varies from individual to individual and can be practiced only when the thing is tested by a professional.

Guided meditation often integrates powerful visualization, progressive relaxation and reflection techniques to help you achieve increased feelings of calm, peace, balance and profound relaxation.

But there is another and a very serious problem involved. When you place yourself before the vast sea of information about the principles, basic philosophies and practices of meditation, chances are you might simply get bedazzled. After all, meditation, though it grew primarily out of the Pan-Hindu cult in greater parts of India, different sects (e.g. Buddhism) have molded it in different patterns to suit their individual needs. So you are likely to get confused regarding which path you should undertake for yourself.

Tendency towards more happiness and optimism - It's funny, when you begin listening to a guided meditation on a daily basis it has the ability to take you that place deep within yourself that is still and peaceful, yet, when you come back to awareness oftentimes that stillness and peace transforms to a sense of happiness and optimism to yourself and those around you.

Disturbance creates a desire... When you are disturbed you start finding a way; you need a solution-- anyhow you try to get rid of your stress

And that is the beginning. The famous saying 'where there is a will there is a way'. You have started your journey; remain thankful to your desperate situation- a seed is about to sprout.

Find the suitable program of meditation. Choose the one that suits your lifestyle best.

You can create your own guided meditations through recording scripts you can ! find in books. Or you can purchase recordings that also have the added benefit of a skilled guided meditation facilitator combined with calming music. It can be fun and transformational to add guided meditation to your self-care and personal wellness toolkit.

Your Mind And Your Enthusiasm Will Enable You To Build a Successful Business--- No Doubt!

Posted: 28 Dec 2011 04:00 AM PST

Article by Charles Kiyimba

Do you know the secret of success? Do you know what to do to build a successful business? Do you know why many people out there fail to succeed in their businesses and in their life? One of the reasons is having a poor MIND coupled with lack of ENTHUSIASM. Your mind and your enthusiasm contribute 100% to the success of your business regardless of the level of your education.

The question now is "How do you use your mind to succeed in your business?" One thing you need to know is that everything you see around us had to be first an idea in the mind. Your mind is a storehouse of wisdom, understanding, intelligence and a source of ideas. What you store in your mind is what you get. If you practice success for your business, your mind will provide you with ways to succeed. It will give you ways to market your business to success.

If you think you can do your home business and succeed, then you can. That's the principle you need to adopt. But if you think you can't, the chances are that you cannot. We all have the same mind to start a business but the question is "How can we make full use of it to build successful businesses?" The answer is in having a lot of ENTHUSIASM to do our business. This is what separates winners from ordinary people.

ENTHUSIASM is the eagerness about doing or achieving something. It acts as a catalyst and motivator to do things. You MUST BE ENTHUSIASTIC about your business to get the energy and the wisdom to turn it into a successful business. Your mind is a success machine, which ordinary people never learn to use to succeed in their businesses. The day they learn to use it, they are no longer ordinary people and success becomes their trade name.

Whatever you program your mind to do, it will accomplish. Mentally think about your business succeeding, your mind will figure out ways for you to make it successful. Mentally think about your business failing, your mind will get for you a way to fail. This is why you need to be careful with what you se! t your h eart on. It surely becomes yours.

Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve. One famous criminologist stated that "When men first come into contact with crime, they abhor it (hate it). If they remain in contact with crime, they become accustomed to it, and endure it. If they remain in contact with it long enough, they finally embrace it, and become influenced by it". This explains how the mind works.

If you want to do a successful business, spend your time working on it every day. Focus your mind to attain your desires through VISUALISATION, which is a practice of seeing your desires in your imagination day and night. Your subconscious mind works on your desires, picks facts and gives you answers through creativity.

As I conclude, I would like to remind you that enthusiasm is a key to building a successful business. Be enthusiastic about whatever task you do. Focus your mind on ideas and actions that will help you to succeed in your home business. You will obviously succeed and be counted among the highly successful people.

Buddhist Meditation Guides

Posted: 28 Dec 2011 03:00 AM PST

Article by Rasmus Lindgren

As you're in the process of learning the practice of true Buddhist meditation, you might seek the help of a sound and reliable Buddhist meditation guide. This guide could take the form of a book, a DVD or CD, a trained yoga or meditation teacher, or perhaps even a poem, novel or song that conveys inspirational themes. Regardless of its individual form, you need to discover a Buddhist meditation guide that will teach you the tricks of the trade, and in a thorough and totally effective manner. The individual guide that you choose will depend on your needs and goals; still, a few general guidelines apply.A good Buddhist meditation guide will teach you the common positions of this time-honored art; demonstrating the possible ways that you can position your limbs, one by one, in order to meditate with success. What it can't do, however, is pick your position for you. Only you can determine the meditative position that is best and most comfortable for you, and that best suits all of your meditative goals.Breathing techniques are another common fixture of many Buddhist meditation guides. That's right; you even have to breathe differently and more intensively when you meditate. Ah, but no fear; the guide will show you how.:)These guides also will serve to relate the common side and after effects of meditation of the Buddha. The guide will tell you what to expect and exactly when to expect it; detailing the meditative practice for your benefit. The text will relate the history of Buddhist meditation, detailing the faith and religion that first produced this time-honored art. And it will educate you on the finer points of meditation, including the clothes, foods, atmospheres, and even the belief system that will facilitate your meditative journey.Basically and essentially, a good meditation guide takes the guess work out of meditation. You will know in full how, when, where and most importantly why you meditate. You will know what to expect along the path to spiritual enlightenment. And you will learn about! the man y benefits that come as part of the meditative experience, including truth, purity, peace and love; both for yourself and for others in your life. With all that said, even the best meditation of the Buddha guide can't tell you exactly why or even how to meditate. You must draw the meditative experience from deep within your soul; you must meditate for your own reasons, in search of your own personal Nirvana.Even so, a good meditation guide can help even seasoned practitioners find that all-important path to true and full enlightenment. Find a good Buddhist meditation guide today, in pursuit of a more enlightened tomorrow.

Tibetan Buddhist meditation

The heart of meditationIn its purest form, Tibetan Buddhist meditation permits you to live in a state of perpetual, long-lasting peace. At last you will be free of the worries, stresses and heartbreaks that plague you on a regular basis. Your mind is steady, not racing with troublesome, unbidden notions, and your spirit flies free.True to the wise, peaceful nature of the Tibetan culture, Buddhists incorporate the act of meditation into their everyday lives. They regard this practice as a cleansing, diffusing ritual in which you relinquish all forms of conscious thought. The western culture, by contrast, conveys the belief that one must be in full control of their senses and thought patterns at all times.Tibetan Buddhists counter that this continuous awareness of one's self and thoughts can send your mind racing and defile your thoughts, resulting in a confused, distressed state. Sure you know what's going on, but that's not always a good thing☺; sometimes reality can be painful and overwhelming, and seemingly impossible to escape. The ultimate objective of Ch'an or Zen meditation, which is deeply rooted in Tibetan culture, is to diffuse the source of the many difficulties that plague our existence, which translates to the illusion of self and other, with the ultimate aim of overcoming conscious thought and its accompanying defilement of the senses. If thoughts of your everyday life are no longer overwhelming your thought patterns, then finally you can reach your mind's core. Negative notions such as greed, hatred and anger cannot permeate your being; suddenly your energy will be free. And so will you.You may then apply this energy to positive, productive purposes, thus resulting in a perpetual state of overall health and happiness. Sure, you'll still have problems and issues; but under the effects of Tibetan Buddhist meditation, you will be able to approach these difficulties with a strong heart and a clear head. You will exist in a sort of bubble where few can damage or hurt you; your coping me! chanisms are strengthened eternally, your mind is clear and free.Tibetans have known this secret to success for centuries, which is why Tibetan Buddhist meditation is so overwhelmingly popular. This is why meditation is referred to in Buddhist cultures as The Fundamental Practice; an everyday procedure that can make so much difference in the course of your everyday life. For many Tibetans, meditation is as common to everyday life as sleeping and eating. Perhaps this is why people of this culture are renowned for their wisdom, patience, virtue, and ultimate kindness. You, too, can share in this ultimate experience of Tibetan Buddhist meditation. Try this remarkable practice today, and reap the lifelong benefits.

"The Joy of Secularism" tells it truly

Posted: 28 Dec 2011 02:00 AM PST

Every book I got for Christmas this year was just what I wanted, including The Joy of Secularism: 11 Essays for How We Live Now. That didn't surprise me. I'd ordered each myself, then gave them to my wife to wrap up.

Such is akin to one of the book's central themes. We can either view meaning as coming from the outside, God being a commonly-perceived source, or from inside our own selves.

These aren't hard and fast dichotomies, of course, just as my book selecting wasn't entirely of my own doing.

I think a "Best Books of 2011" list in the New Yorker clued me in to The Joy of Secularism. Likewise, even if the meaning of life is considered to reside in some objective external reality, we humans have to subjectively perceive it somehow if that meaning is to become, well, meaningful to us.

I've only read the first two chapters in the book, an introduction by George Levine (the editor) and a terrific essay by Philip Kitcher, "Challenges for Secularism." But it's already clear how special the book is: a highly appealing blend of excellent writing, clear thinking, and practical wisdom.

(Plus, I love how the cover mirrors the checkered look of "The Joy of Cooking," a book I grew up with as a kitchen must-have.)

Levine has a simple goal. He's out to show the positive side of giving up a belief in the supernatural. When gods, spirits, souls, magical powers, and such are discarded, what's left can be, and often is, absolutely wonderful.

Joyful, in a word.

This book was conceived and largely developed from a totally secular perspective. It will explore the idea that secularism is a positive, not a negative, condition, not a denial of the world of spirit and of religion, but an affirmation of the world we're living in now; that building our world on a foundation of the secular is essential to our contemporary well-being; and that such a world is capable of bringing us to the condition of "fullness" that religion has always promised.

...I want to establish an affectively and intellectually powerful case that a secular world is not only worth it -- that life is indeed worth living -- but that with all the inevitable pains and losses, it can be wonderful, indeed, at times joyous, and that a sense of that wonder enhances the possibility of improving it.

Philip Kitcher's kick-off essay is so richly thought-provoking, it's tough to single out what hit me hardest as I read it. I guess it was (1) meaning is more meaningful when it comes from us, and (2) our connection with the cosmos is best conceived as horizontal, rather than vertical.

Here's some Kitcher quotes that I liked a lot.

As already noted, secularism removes purpose from the cosmos, by denying that there is an unfolding plan, envisaged by a divine creator. The removal renders impossible a particular way of conceiving the significance of human lives. You can no longer think of your life as directed toward filling some small (probably infinitesimally tiny) part of the divine scheme of things.

What is lost here is the thought that a specific task -- perhaps that of recognizing the greatness of God and working to bring about his will on Earth, as is best in your particular situation -- has been assigned to you, and that this assignment provides your life with direction and meaning. A first secularist response would deny that this is any loss at all, and would assert that, on the contrary, we gain significance for ourselves once we recognize the importance of choosing our own pattern and our own projects.

...Thoroughly secular people can interpret the purpose of their lives, not through some "vertical" links to a dimly understood transcendent reality, but through "horizontal" connections to a natural world that is vaster than their own individual existence.

Recognition of yourself as part of a world, including most importantly other human lives, on which your actions make an impact, the epiphany can be a rich source of broader connections without any presuppositions about the supernatural. The religious claim of especial depth or richness in these experiences is thus exposed as the residue of misguided presuppositions that ought to be foresworn.

I really resonated with Kitcher's challenging of the religious contention that our lives have to be exceptional in order to be well-lived. "In the wake of Christianity, however, it is easy to be haunted by the thought that nothing less than a permanent imprint on the universe is enough."

This isn't only a Christian notion, of course.

Hindus see the goal of life as rejoining the soul, Atman, with God, Brahman. Buddhists aspire to enlightenment, perceiving the cosmos as it truly is. So whether a religious faith is of West or East, a true believer is under a hell of a lot of pressure to make his or her life into something of cosmic significance.

During the thirty years or so when I was an active member of an India-based spiritual organization, Radha Soami Satsang Beas (RSSB), I used to enjoy feeling special.

I was sure that before too long (even four lifetimes is a blink of the eye compared to eternity) I'd be privy to secrets of the cosmos that couldn't be realized by anyone except the few people fortunate enough to meditate under the guidance of a Perfect Living Master, God in human form.

I'd stand in line at a movie theatre, waiting to buy tickets, and look at my fellow movie-goers, thinking "They aren't on the divine path that I am; they aren't going to be taking the journey of the soul that I am; I'm so fortunate to know the truth that escapes them."

Standing right beside me would be one of the people I was thinking about, my wife. She hadn't been initiated by my guru. So she was doomed to remain in maya, the illusion of materiality, until her karmas improved enough to merit God's/Guru's grace.

Now, my attitude back then seems like total bullshit. I had distanced myself from the world and the vast majority of other people, choosing to identify with the small number of RSSB disciples scattered around the planet. I'd set my sights on an exceedingly vertical goal, a transcendence of physical reality into spiritual realms of existence.

Tree planting
Last Saturday, Christmas Eve, my wife and I planted a Golden Willow on the shore of a commonly-owned lake in our neighborhood. It took us quite a while to haul the heavy container from our car, dig a suitably large hole, position the tree properly, crumble the dense clay soil (almost like modeling clay) into a root-friendly composition, and give the tree a welcoming drink of lake water.

In my true-believing past, I would have viewed this volunteering as an act to be dedicated to God, my guru, or my store of good karmas. On Saturday afternoon, planting the tree simply seemed like a good thing to do. It'll take many years or several decades for the willow to grow into its full glory. We might be alive to see it. We might not.

Doesn't matter. We enjoyed planting the tree. Other people will enjoy seeing it. And we recognize that some night a beaver might enjoy chomping it down (but first the critter will have to get through a beaver barrier that we'll put around the trunk).

Realizing that a meaningful life can be filled with simple small things, rather than complex cosmic accomplishments, is a godsend to me. Except, god didn't send that realization. And that's what makes it so satisfying.

(Further secularism reading suggestions: a New York Times piece, "Beyond 'New Atheism'"; an article in The New Yorker, "Is That All There Is?"

What You Can Benefit From Guided Meditation?

Posted: 28 Dec 2011 01:00 AM PST

Article by Suzanne Eltink

Meditation can easily be defined as a practice in which the one trains their minds to induce a mode of consciousness. The term meditation actually comes from the Latin word Meditation. This literally means thinking. People meditate because of various reasons and in different ways. If you are reading this and you have never meditated before, then I recommend a guided meditation for you. A guided meditation is where you meditate with the help of an instructor. There are several benefits acquired from practicing meditation, below are some of the benefits that you can achieve when meditating.Meditation helps to cope up with stress. Normally stress is caused by different reasons. Some of the reasons are love problems, economic difficulties, job losses and sicknesses. This practice gives you the chance to think of the causes and the solutions. While thinking, your mind is occupied by positive thoughts which decrease the stress level. It enables one to let go of the past. The daily practice of this act helps one to easily let go of sad situations. Be it death in the family, accidents or loss of property. Forgetting such incidences is normally very hard because people are emotionally affected by them. Practicing meditation can help people to let go of painful thoughts in their minds so they can get in positive vibration and looking at things in a positive perspective. It also helps to relax the body. There are different ways of relaxation when meditating. You need to identify one with which you are comfortable. Relaxing your body in this act helps to place the nervous system into the right position. This also helps to avoid health problems with both the spinal cord and the nervous system. With the help of a guide, there is completely no way you will hurt yourself as you only do what the instructor tell you.It helps to fight sleep problems. Once in a while we fail to sleep. This normally happens during hard times for example when you have lost a loved one, when we have financial crisis or when we are sick. T! he reaso n this happens is because the mind completely fails to relax. In this scenario, meditation is the right thing to do.All in all a guided meditation is the only way you will benefit faster from the practice. With a guided meditation you do not have to think about what to do, you only do what the instructions need you to do.

A number of people have a fantastic sense regarding focus in addition to concentration. They also have the ability to quiet his or her mind whatever kind regarding environment they are in. In addition there are those who seem to be always not able to relax along with let their own mind get. They may hardly completely focus, so which affects their wisdom and good quality of perform. Meditation is an effective aid for this type of folks. Whilst meditating, a mind place is made to achieve a particular degree of spiritual healing and also enlightenment.

What takes place during meditation vary depending on the individual. These elements could be affected by things for instance mood, persona and personality. When an individual doesn't recognize themselves, their confusion demonstrates their measures. This is why meditation is critical to obtain and hold on to an ignited consciousness.

A quiet place faraway from the concerns with the day, something or you to definitely contemplate upon and awareness are important to useful meditation. While relaxing meditation is definitely the basic and the majority efficient type of meditation, you can find other approaches to modify the process. On the full, you can certainly only create other forms of meditation if you become habituated while using the practice. When your mind have been set pertaining to meditation, it will be easy that you can stay tuned-up. Additionally, you can integrate the particular spiritual heart and soul and thought awareness while using physical in addition to mental tempos of lifestyle.

As deep breathing becomes portion of your regime, you will probably always find time for you to stop and make a connection with all the process of meditation. Obviously, you may seek the actual blissful state you could experience as long as meditating.

So what should you are doing when the area you are usually into seriously isn't conducive pertaining to meditation? You will find ways to determine focus and concentration. You can ea! sily cap ture your brain to stay the yoga state when you direct your focus on a spot within the room, or pay attention attentively for your breathing or target a modest object. With the help of a comforting music in addition to tricky colorings, you can employ deep breathing and lengthen such practice even outside of the relaxation period.

Active people including athletes must stay focused in their skill or art although staying grounded. However, their physical ability could possibly be more enhanced when they are in touch with their greater consciousness. Some sort of famous woman's boxer exposed that inside her thrashing and intense profession, she never doesn't meditate as well as chant. She constructed her very own way of escaping a fitness center atmosphere in order to find peace inside. She listens to the sound with the speed bag as the girl hits it one of the ways. There can be a distinct sound for the one-way blow as well as the sound varies while using difference in the impact regarding glove. Then almost all she were required to do can be close the woman's eyes and meditate for the sound in the speed tote.

Even any basketball gambler can hire meditation with the free toss line if he is able to transcend the actual noise from the crowd and also the pressure of the play. In this way, he may manage stress while connecting to his meditation method.

Be innovative in modifying your personal way of meditation. Separate your designs and produce your thoughts work.

Be Your Own Therapist

Google Tech Talks October 3, 2008 ABSTRACT We spend our lives being seduced by the outside world, believing without question that happiness and suffering come from "out there." In reality, Buddhist teachings explain that they come from the way we perceive and interpret things, not the things themselves. This deeply held misconception is at the root of our dissatisfaction, self-doubt, anger, depression, anxiety, and the rest. But our minds can change. By becoming deeply familiar with the workings of our own cognitive processes through introspection and learning to deconstruct them - truly, being our own therapists - we can loosen the grip of these neuroses and grow our marvelous potential for contentment, clarity, and courage, which are at the core of our being. How to Become Happier - Using Mindfulness

Posted: 27 Dec 2011 11:00 PM PST

Article by Sam Strong

Are you in control of your emotions? Do you get angry, frustrated, annoyed too easily? Do you understand why you react the way that you do? Here is some help and guidance to help to overcome the destructive effects of negative emotions.

The pace of life seems to be getting quicker all the time. There seems to be less time to do things, yet many of us are still trying to achieve more, and to fit more in to each day. For others, the speed of life is what is happening to other people.

Our brains are working just as frenetically, and for some, this becomes a problem. Many people continually repeat in their minds things that they are experiencing. Dwelling on the past like this is quite common. It only becomes a problem for those people not equipped to deal with the emotional pressures that the mind can sometimes generate or cause.

Emotions can manifest themselves physically; that is we can feel them physically. For example, happiness, anxiety, anger, frustration etc. can all be felt in our bodies. It therefore becomes important to be aware of what we are feeling, and why we are feeling this way.

Self awareness is an important characteristic, particularly when making critical decisions. If we do not feel in control of ourselves, how are we going to be able to control or influence the path of our own lives? However, too much self awareness can be limiting. It can cause us to be over cautious when we need to take action, thus inhibiting our ability to progress or achieve, or in some cases, survive.

How do we get the balance right? If we borrow from the teachings of Zen Buddhism, there is a concept called Mindfulness. In essence, it involves being present in the moment without passing judgement on the experience.

Yes, simple enough in words, but the practise of it takes some practice, so to speak.

Mindfulness requires self discipline.

It works by observing what is happening in our mind and around us, and by focusing on the moment we are experiencing withou! t passin g any judgement and without applying any subjective thoughts and feelings.

You can give it a try from now. Next time you meet with someone you know, try to see them anew. View them without your existing knowledge of them, and without your existing perceptions and opinions. You can try this on family, friends, colleagues or adversaries.

The origins of why our minds are judgemental can be found in the times when we needed to be able to make instant decisions when faced with danger. These were the original "Fight or Flight" decisions, where a delay could be fatal.

In present times we still form judgements as good, bad or neutral; the good and bad creating the most attention. Mindfulness is about observing all things with equal attention, but without passing judgement. It's much like seeing the world again for the first time!

One of the greatest benefits of Mindfulness is in your own personal contentment and achievement. This comes from knowing whether you are thinking unhelpful, destructive or unrealistic thoughts, and by learning to suspend judgement.

Many of the negative thoughts we have when we are emotionally upset tend to be distorted. Let them go, knowing that they are symptoms of a particular state of mind, and therefore unhelpful. Thoughts and emotions work hand in hand with one another. We need to be objective in our understanding of them. Then we will start to feel better about things.

If we can be more aware of our thoughts when we feel depressed, then we will be able to recognise them as just that; thoughts, not facts. As we become more familiar with the negative aspects of our emotions, we will then be better equipped to deal with our negative thoughts.

Mindfulness can be practiced daily in all situations, which in turn will aid the appreciation of so much more of life's pleasures.

Zen Garden Images

Japanese rock gardens "karesansui" or zen gardens were influenced by Zen Buddhism and can be often be found at Zen temples, especially in the Kyoto area. Originally their creation and maintenance was a form of meditation itself. Japanese gardens are living works of art in which the components are ever changing with the seasons and the winds. As they mature, they are constantly sculpted to maintain and enhance the overall experience. In this way a Japanese garden is never the same and never really finished.
