I guess that you already know something about Manifestation and the Law of Attraction. You know that you can manifest the life of your dreams and that you can attract whatever you want into your life.

Of course theoretical knowledge is not what we want. We want the results. Unfortunately we attract not only good things, but also bad things. That's why we must be careful about what we think. Positive thoughts bring good things into our lives and negative thoughts bring bad things into our lives.

Unfortunately positive thinking is not enough. Really important are good feelings. Positive thinking should lead to good feelings. When we feel good, then we will really attract the good things we want, like good health, wealth and happiness.

Now you might ask "how can I control my mind?", "how can I maintain positive thoughts?" or "how can I feel good when my life is so stressful?" etc. All of your questions are good and there are many answers to them. The main point is that there can't be a real success without mind control. All the successful and happy people are people who can control and discipline their minds and lives.

Of course you can now give me the examples of famous and wealthy people who lead anything but disciplined lives, but if you do I will ask you: "Are they also really happy people?" I don't know any.

Let's go back to the question "how to control the mind?" There are different methods, but the best and the easiest is meditation. Meditation is the key to Manifestation, to attracting success and happiness.

There are many different methods for meditation, but first you need to learn how to be still. First you need to discipline your body and mind to sit quietly for at least fifteen minutes, gradually extending the time to at least thirty minutes.

First you need to learn how to be still and quiet. Sit with your back straight. You can sit down on a chair or on the floor with crossed legs, whatever way is more comfortable for you. You can let your mind! wander at first, but do not let it to break your stillness and silence.

After a few times of such meditation you will see very positive changes in the way you think and feel. Then you can move to the next stages of meditation and learn how to control your mind even better, but first you need to learn how to be still and quiet for at least thirty minutes.

Creating Wealth in the Mind Body and Spirit

Article by Merrit Strunk

Creating wealth in the mind, body, and spirit takes more than a get rich quick guide and a few video seminars. It takes the focus to size up what is really important to you, and that is not always money. But most people do not always recognize that, and it puts them on a treadmill to failure. The more they strive for wealth in the mind, body, and spirit, as balanced whole, the more all three benefits and goals contribute to the achievement of the other.

Wealth in the mind might be a more difficult concept for younger people to understand. Creating wealth in the mind, body, and spirit has positive effects younger people may not appreciate yet. Wealth in the mind comes from peace of mind, security in the path you are taking, commitment to issues and projects that mean more than dollar signs.

Wealth in the body becomes more and more difficult to hold onto these days. To maintain wealth in the mind, body, and spirit an individual must earn a positive balance between enjoyment of life and behaviors and ingestion of substances or chemicals that can harm long-term knowledge or health. And bad health isn't cheap, either.

It should be evident to anyone that to maintain and grow wealth in the mind, body, and spirit one must observe some conservative principles of living. Unsound practices can deplete efforts to grow wealth in the mind, body, and spirit. It might be a good idea to apply this test to any deed, habit or fixed dynamic of everyday life and determine whether or not it might grow wealth in the mind, body, and spirit. If it doesn't, is it really worth doing?

If wealth in the mind, body, and spirit is your goal, why would you do anything to undermine attaining and retaining these aspects of livings? To grow wealth in the mind, body, and spirit one must know oneself and observe how the world works. All hard work is not good, all stringent diet does not produce 100% sound benefits, and foul deeds or harmful incidents may affect your spirit.

To then grow wealth in the m! ind, bod y, and spirit, an examined mind must order an existence that routinely introduces factors of a person or life that has balance, peace, truth. Truth must be a main contributor of wealth in the mind, body, and spirit. Efforts must be made to constantly stimulate balance and avoid extremes. A strong body and a peaceful mind make for a strong spirit. That is the true nature of wealth in the mind, body, and spirit.

Cope with Holiday Stress through Meditation

Posted: 02 Feb 2012 11:00 AM PST

Article by Nelson Berry

New Year and Christmas are just two of the most anticipated holidays of the year. It's the season where families and friends get together. The chilly evenings turn out to be fun times to ice-skate in the Rockefeller or shop at Macy's or simply head to the nearest parks where carolers and revelries are abundant.

However, unknown to many, these are also the times when you tend to experience holiday stress. It is called as such since the main triggers for your stressful feeling are the different preparations you're making for the holidays. If you're working, you will find yourself beating rush sales just to make sure you have gifts to your loved ones. Homemakers would spend countless days cleaning their homes and lawns for their upcoming visitors. Worse, some have to deal with emotional stress, such as meeting relatives they really don't want to be with on special occasions.

These are supposed to be the best times, and you should not allow stress to completely take over? But how do you exactly do that? You can do so by meditation.

Meditation has been extremely helpful, especially to people who have been living stressful lives. Using the technique during the holidays will still provide you the same powerful benefits.

Meditation has the ability to calm your nerves or the different stressful areas in the body such as your shoulders and gut. When you slowly take in air, you will feel the lungs and abdomen expand, which normally feel contracted when you're under stress. Moreover, as you let out the air, you somehow develop the notion that you're also expelling the bad energies that go along with stress.

It can also boost your immune system. A lot of people do get sick when they are under stress because their defenses are completely down. Thanks to the oxygen you supply to your body, you keep the body cells well nourished. You also reduce the secretion of cortisol, which is found to be associated with high cholesterol level. Instead, you secrete more of serotonin,! which y ou can attribute to your happier and more peaceful moods.

Most of all, meditation helps you deal with the emotional baggage you may be carrying during the season. You can enhance its effects in this area through the use of subliminal messages.

Subliminal messages, in this case, may be in terms of positive statements or affirmations. For example if you're not too confident facing a lot of relatives, you may perhaps consider the following affirmations:

I am confident about myself. I have the power to overcome shyness or insecurities. I can forgive those relatives who have hurt me.I am settled with my past.

These subliminal messages, if repeated many times, can eventually change your thought patterns, helping you transform any negative emotion to a positive one.

During the holidays, every day seems to be a busy one. Finding a good time to meditate can be pretty difficult. Nevertheless, all it needs is finding the right time. You can do it before you go to sleep or before the rest of the family members are up.

Study: Meditation Changes Your Brain!?!

A new study shows that meditating 30 minutes a day can change the physical makeup of the brain. Researches took MRI brain scans before and after the participants' meditation regimen and found increased gray matter in the hippocampus, an area important for learning and memory. The images also showed a reduction of gray matter in the amygdala, a region connected to anxiety and stress. A control group that did not practice meditation showed no such changes. Spiritual Quantum Physics

Posted: 02 Feb 2012 10:00 AM PST

Article by Elis Peterson

SPIRITUAL QUANTUM PHYSICS "I ACCUSE"

My spiritual teacher of 35 years, I.F., repeated to me over and over: "if you cannot explain something in your own words then you do not know what you are talking about."

Our Solar System which has just orbited around our Galactic Sun into a new 30 degree arc is of immense importance to humanity on the planet. This movement has started the "Age of Aquarius."

It is an event that will change life as we know it on the planet. These changes will be slow and gradual and will take 2000 years to run its course. But there will be many individual violent and sudden events due to the lightening energies of the ruling Planet Uranus. These will destroy the most evil energy structures on the planet to ease in the new energy. You cannot place new wine in old flasks.

The movement of the Solar System has changed the S (space), T (time), E (energy), M (matter) continuum by which we experience life on this planet.

"I accuse!"

I do not like what the academic scientists call the Age of Aquarius Quantum Physics. I do not like or understand their Big Bang Theory; Black Hole Theory; Laws of Chaos, or even the Einsteinan Theory of Relativity that they rest all their theories on.

What I dislike the most is their complete disregard of a guiding force that is more powerful than their own limited human mentality. Their total disregard of a creative force that controls their destiny and the destiny of all mankind as well as the destinies of the planets of our Solar System. They have arbitrarily placed themselves as the highest form of intelligence on the planet and even in the Solar System.

"I Accuse!" them of consciously and unconsciously retarding the spiritual growth and destiny of humanity on this planet. They have tried to bury us in the lower levels of consciousness called "materialism".

Therefore I will try to explain these great phenomena, this great event called the Age of Aquarius in my own words.

I will star! t by ren aming this new paradigm, "The Laws of Spiritual Quantum Physics." I will unequivocally say that there is a Prime Mover, A Grand Architect, A First Cause called the "Creator God."

Here are my abstractions of the Age of Aquarius:

"There exists an infinite ocean of thinking, intelligent energy called the Quantum Ocean, the Mind of God. There is no time there. No past, present nor future. Only the NOW!

There is no space there. No width, length nor depth. Only the HERE! Therefore there only exists the "HERE-NOW!"

Everything that ever was, is or will be exists in this timeless, space less infinite point called the Quantum Ocean.

What a great definition for the Mind of God!

Moreover, we live, move and have our being within this Mind of God. We are individual souls within this infinite soul called GOD.

We 'blink-out' and 'blink-into' the Mind of God, over and over, and over.

Each new 'blink-out' is a new incarnation. Each 'blink-in' is a return to the source.

We 'blink-in and out' of this Quantum Ocean, Mind of God for one reason, one purpose only. That is to continuously raise our levels of consciousness with our physical life experiences. To become more god-like because we are all potential gods.

If you don't like my explanation than for gods-sake (literally) create your own. Get off your duffs and stop accepting what THEY tell you are the truths about God and Creation. They only want to control you with their theories.

Watch and see. They will become the first targets for Uranus's Lightening strikes.

Top five regrets of the dying

Posted: 02 Feb 2012 10:00 AM PST

Susie Steiner, The Guardian: A nurse has recorded the most common regrets of the dying, and among the top ones is 'I wish I hadn't worked so hard'.

  1. I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
  2. I wish I hadn't worked so hard.
  3. I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings.
  4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.
  5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.

The Two-Headed Beast of Successful Habit Change

Posted: 02 Feb 2012 09:00 AM PST

Editor's Note: This is a guest post from Tyler Tervooren of Advanced Riskology.

I used to have a lot of bad habits. I still do, but I used to have a lot more. Here's just a small sampling:

  1. I woke up late and went to bed early.
  2. I procrastinated on my most important work.
  3. I neglected my relationships.
  4. I drank too much.
  5. I bit my fingernails.
  6. I slouched a lot.
  7. I picked my nose (no joke).
  8. I bought worthless things I didn't need.
  9. I chewed with my mouth open.
  10. I dressed like a slob.
  11. I ate tons of junk food.

I could go on, but none of that's incredibly important. What's important is that I used to have a lot of bad habits, and now I have fewer.

I spent years dissatisfied with my habits and never made much progress changing them. Yes, sometimes I'd make a small step forward, but it usually wasn't long until I was back to "Old Tyler" again (thanks, procrastination habit).

I'm fortunate to have learned recently that it doesn't have to be this way.

I always thought I could change things myself — I'm a die-hard do-it-yourselfer — so I never gave a second thought to any other way.

The thing that helped me finally knock out that eleven point list (plus a few other habits I'm too embarrassed to mention here), took a real leap of faith; I let someone help me.

It started as a practical matter. I decided to try vegetarianism and recruited my girlfriend to try it with me so we could eat together. That lasted more than a year before consciously changing diets. We did the same thing to stop biting our nails.

For the very first time, I was developing habits that I created on purpose. It felt great — like I was really in control of my life after years of spinning my wheels.

How could I keep this going?

At the time, I was so fiercely independent that I hardly realized what had contributed to the success. It took a few more heart-crushing failures with other goals before finally getting the picture.

Late in 2010, a friend mentioned he wanted to wake up earlier to get more work done in the morning. I remembered how much I enjoyed waking up early when I actually did it, so I agreed to a six o'clock meeting and accountability report every morning. Almost one year later, we're still going strong.

It's pretty amazing what a little accountability can do for your motivation.

Since then, I've wised up and started recruiting partners to help me with all of my big goals:

  • A small mastermind group that I work on business goals with
  • A few local friends to help get my shy ass out of the house once in awhile
  • And almost 5,000 companions to keep me on track with some of my biggest life goals.

The difference is incredible.

The secret is that, for some of us, successful habit change is a two-headed beast — not something to be tackled alone. If you've struggled with habit change yourself, recruit some help.

But who do you ask? And how do you find the right partners in crime? Unfortunately, not just anyone is a good fit. Picking the right person that will compliment you is just as important as picking someone at all.

Fair warning: Friends and relatives do not always make the best accountability partners.

Through plenty of trial and error, I've found a few characteristics that I look for in someone I'm about to partner with to make an important life change. Perhaps they'll help you find a good fit, too.

  • They're a little ahead of you, but not too far ahead. In a good accountability partnership, one person is usually at least a little bit further beyond the other. Though you're both helping each other, one person stands out as the more likely mentor. Otherwise, it's the blind leading the blind. And you don't want your partner to be too far ahead of you, or the relationship is unbalanced and feels awkward.
  • They're a little bit competitive. You probably don't want someone who's looking to stick it to you every chance they get, but you'll get a lot further a lot faster if your accountability partner isn't satisfied with self defeat and is willing to actually hold you accountable.
  • They have similar goals to you. You don't have to be working on the exact same thing to work well with a partner — it can be great to work together on separate projects — but there should be an obvious overlap of your big goals. There needs to be something that ties you two together beyond just "wanting to change something."
  • They're focused. If you agree to meet for 10 minutes each day, but never seem to get anywhere because your meetings are unfocused, first look at yourself. Are you dragging things off course on a regular basis? If not, then it's probably time to find a more focused partner.
  • They're supportive when you need it.  This goes back to competitiveness. You want your partner to push you and hold you accountable — that's what they're there for — but a good one also has your best interest at heart and knows when you need a little lift instead of a scolding.
  • They show commitment. The truth is that you can usually tell if a partnership like this is going to work within a week. If your accountability partner can't even get it together at the very beginning when excitement is running high, that's a pretty good indication they're not committed to change. Best to get out. This doesn't make them a bad person, but it probably makes them a bad partner for now.

If you've ever struggled with making an important habit change in your life, then I challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and ask for help. If you're like me, it could turn everything around.

What do you want to change? Who can help?

Mindset Through Meditation

Posted: 02 Feb 2012 08:00 AM PST

Article by Didar Khalsa

Mindset through Meditation

A positive mindset is within your reach â€" all you need to do is take action. So much of our brain is unused, so let's make the best of what we do use!

I recently went through a major life change that required a new mindset. I lost my job, my fancy car, and thus I had to re-evaluate what my goals and focus were. My mindset was more material and I needed to open up to the experiences in life instead.

The mind is a beautiful farm. The mindset is the crop you sow.

There will always be outside influences trying to damage your crop, yet weeding them out before they take root is detrimental to the quality of the outcome.

And like a farm, your mindset spreads out to all you come in contact with. The energy your mindset exudes is what others will pick up on when they meet you.

Make sure you pick the right mindset â€" it's as simple as that. You know in your heart what you want. Once you achieve it, your energy and positive mindset will emanate to all those around you, and they will be inspired by your happiness.

To help in the cultivation of positive energy and mindset, use meditation. Meditation focuses the mind and controls the body.

I have taught yoga for decades. It is the peace and tranquility that I have learned from meditation that enabled me to achieve the mindset and success that I have.

Opening my mind to everything in life has changed my mindset from narrow and misguided, to wide and accepting. Each and every day my motivation stems from my mindset. A positive mindset can go a long way in determining how you spend your time.

When I was forced back into the job market a few years ago, I was humbled by the lack of viable employment options available. My mindset was forced to change from proud to accepting, or else I would get bitter and jaded.

I discovered a way to make a living through the Internet and, though I didn't see much profit at first, my positive mindset compelled me to jump into th! e new ro le with two feet.

As my new job developed, so did my personal yoga meditation. My mindset was brighter once money started to flow in again. However, I had to make sure I kept my mindset in check. I could not let my mindset go back to the material aspirations it had once dwelled upon.

My new mindset was to positively look forward to what I could do to better my standing, all the while enjoying what I was doing now.

If you don't enjoy the here and now, the future will be but a shadow of the true enjoyment it could have been. Your mindset and outlook today set the stage for your future.

A bright outlook and positive mindset can take you further than you even know. Your energy spreads like wildfire, be it bad or good. A positive mindset will enable you to overcome obstacles and embrace opportunities.

Don't ever forget that you determine your own mindset. You have the power to be positive or negative, the ability to change your mindset is always waiting and ready whenever you are.

Berkana yoga and meditation has a quote about setting yourself in the right mindset: "Action is something that the vast majority will never take". You don't need to be that majority. Choose action over passivity now.

Change your mindset and take action toward motivating yourself to improve your future. You'll never look back.

Four Steps To Rescue Stray New Year Resolutions

Posted: 02 Feb 2012 08:00 AM PST

Looks like it is that time of year when many New Year resolutions that people set have already strayed. Attempts to kick a smoking habit for example, might have seemed successful for a few weeks but once the realities and stresses of coming back from the holidays have resurfaced, some people may have caved into the nicotine again.

Of course there is the usual health promises that get broken too. According to the fitness industry, a lot of gym memberships are sold from December to February but gym attendance significantly drops shortly afterwards when people realize that working out involves a lot of physical work.

This happens year after year for pretty well all types of New Year resolutions including health, financial and habit related ones like smoking. If this has already happened to you or if you are on the verge of letting some of your New Year resolutions go astray, here are some steps you can take to hopefully salvage them.

Think About The Underlying Reasons Behind Each New Year Resolution
First, rethink the underlying reasons behind each of your resolutions just to better understand why you set them in the first place. Are they still valid or important to you?

Sometimes a New Year resolution might be just a 'nice to do' rather than a 'need to do' and is not really all that important to your life after some time passes. If this is the case, drop the resolution to focus on more important things. If the reasons are still solid, then keep the resolutions for the next step.

Revamp Each New Year Resolution Into A Well Defined Goal
Now for the resolutions that are truly important to you, revamp them into well defined goals. G! etting i n shape for example is far too general. Instead, set such a resolution as a realistic goal you can measure like losing ten pounds during each remaining month in 2012 as this is something you can measure. Make sure that your defined goals are realistic by seeing what other people have done and have been successful with similar goals.

Plan Out The Steps Required

Now that you have the end results of your goals in mind, plan out the steps that you actually have to do each week in order to achieve them. This can be setting definite time periods during the week to work out at the gym or taking a course in something that will help you achieve a certain goal.

Physically enter these steps each week into your calendar just like any other important appointments that you may have each week. This must be on something that you will be referring to each day whether it is a physical calendar or electronic one in your computer or personal device.

Monitor The Progress Of Your Goals
Most goals that were previously set as New Year resolutions take time and effort to achieve. They cannot be done overnight. But accepting the fact that many of your goals will take continuous work over time, you will be able to monitor your progress over the course of the year.

If you do happen to stray a bit, take immediate action to make up for it. Track your progress and adjust your steps and goals as required. Sometimes our initial planning might be too ambitious and we have to adjust things to make them workable.

By turning your New Year resolutions into longer term, measurable goals over the entire year with actual steps and committed time allocated for them, you will be able to rescue any that strayed.

If you feel brave and honest enough to reveal any of your New Year resolutions that have already strayed, feel free to share! them be low and what you might do to rescue them.

Good luck!

The real you

Posted: 02 Feb 2012 07:00 AM PST

In Buddhism the problem of the real you is better solved by understanding what is not you.   Philosophically speaking, this way of looking at yourself is the via negativa.  This can be easily illustrated.

If we imagine that we are a radio signal, trying to find ourselves in a radio would be terribly confusing and difficult since we would believe that we are the tuner or the speaker or the antenna and so on.

Further imagine that other radios are telling us there is no such thing as a radio signal.  They declare: "You are the sum of the radio with all of its parts."  Now let's imagine as a radio we start to learn about an enlightened radio called the Buddha.  In his discourses the Buddha continually harps on the fact that the radio is not us (anattâ/anatman).  He lists all the parts of the radio then says of each part like the antenna, this radio part is not me.

I think this signal/radio analogy is very pertinent.  If one bothers to read the bulk of the Buddha's discourses, the Buddha is always telling his followers that their psychophysical body, which he calls the Five Aggregates (form, sensation, perception, discrimination, consciousness [R.C. Childers' trans.]) should not be mistaken for their self.  In other words, aggregates are not-the-self or in Pali, anattâ.  In light of this, those who insist that the Buddha denied the self are completely wrong.

Getting back to the problem of trying to find the real you it becomes almost an impossible task if we strongly desire to identify our self with our physical body  since our body is subject to aging and constant change, not to mention degrees of pain.  By the same token, it is absurd to insist there is no self or you.  It changes nothing.  But it does change things if we learn to detach from our strong desire to identify our self with the psychophysical body.  In this reflection, we have to learn to see our self as being more like a radio signal which is tuned into a particular body, partaking of its life; that after this body's death will link with still another body otherwise called, 'rebirth'.

"Behold ! Hail to the jewel in the lotus !" Music by Tibetan Incantation: The Meditative Sounds of Stress Reductions Chants CD. Dedicated to The Enlightened Buddha named Prince Siddhartha born 500 BC in Nepal to a ruling class family. HH The Dalai Lama has provided just such an analysis. He concludes his discussion with this synopsis: "Thus the six syllables, Om Mani Padme Hum, mean that in dependence on the practice which is in indivisible union of method and wisdom, you can transform your impure body, speech and mind into the pure body, speech, and mind of a Buddha." Seeking Abundance? Discover Your Higher Mind

Seeking Abundance? Discover Your Higher Mind

You've heard it said that human beings are divided into three minds, the lower, or animal mind, the everyday mind of normal consciousness, and the higher mind, what Ralph Waldo Emerson called the Oversoul.

For much of my life I resisted accepting the existence of the Higher Mind. I could accept that we have a buried, "animal" mind, responsible for our lower urgings and emotions. Obviously, it was also clear that we have a conscious mind--what all of us use on a day-to-day basis to carry out our tasks as workers or family members, to plan, and to think through the practical problems that arise in our lives. But where was this so-called Higher Mind?

Now I know. Now I am no more doubtful of the Higher Mind's existence than I am that the sun rises in the east.

You can convince yourself of the validity of the Higher Mind, too. In other articles I will give some suggestions as to exactly how you can do this. For now, though, just know that if you want to achieve your dreams--whatever they are--the surest and easiest way is to connect with the power of the Higher Mind.

What is this Higher Mind?

Simply put, it is the mental component that is above our conditioned human awareness. It is nothing less than your true self.

Many people give intellectual assent to the possibility of the Higher Mind, but you must experience it yourself to be thoroughly, unalterably convinced of it. You'll know you're operating from your Higher Mind when you find yourself finally free of your negative conditioning, free of cravings that bring only frustration, and free of doubts as to your purpose in life.

Your everyday mind is not your real self. Your everyday mind has been conditioned from day 1 and is nothing but a set of beliefs, opinions and unthinking responses which constantly threaten to pull you apart and pit you against yourself and others.

The everyday mind has its uses. We need it to do our jobs, to drive our cars, to p! lan and cook meals, to learn the rules that help us get along in the particular society in which we find ourselves.

But if you want true abundance, happiness and peace, you need to begin to live more of your days from the position of the Higher Mind. Once I learned to do this, I discovered that, in truth, there are no problems--and that the universe was ever-ready to pour upon me all the material and spiritual goods that I could possibly imagine, and then some.

Since learning to connect with the Higher Mind (through such simple, easily learned techniques as releasing), riches of every kind have appeared in my life like magic.

Your own Higher Mind will do the same for you, beginning as soon as you wake up to its presence within and around you. If you haven't yet made that awakening, there is no more vital mission for you to undertake than to do just that. I promise that the effort is worth it!

The Use of Buddhist Malas in Buddhist Meditation

Article by Sylvia Smelcer

Of the world's religions, many use prayer beads for prayer and/or meditation. Muslim prayer beads have 99 beads to correspond to the 99 days of Allah. Catholicism uses the rosary in order to keep track of in which order the prayers are said. Hinduism and Buddhism use the Japa Mala, aka the mala to keep track of the repetitions in meditation. There are also nondenominational prayer beads.

Although many religions use prayer beads during prayer, this tradition is very strong in Tibetan Buddhism. In Tibetan Buddhism, the mala is used with a particular mantra that is repeated during meditation. When a mala is used during meditation, the mind is free to focus on the meaning of the mantra itself, rather than focusing on the number of repetitions said.

In today's modern world, most of us are accustomed to keeping track of and doing a variety of different things at once. This thinking is not helpful to us in terms of meditation. The mind needs to be focused during meditation, but often our minds wander. The prayer beads help us connect our minds to the mantra, and eliminate thinking about other things. The mind is able to focus on the mantra, and become more relaxed.

Japa malas normally contain 108 beads, or a number of beads divisible by 9. Many Buddhists believe that there are 108 possible sins, while Hindus often believe that 108 is the number of names assigned to Hindu gods, or that the number 108 represents the nine planets in the 12 zodiac houses. 108 is called the perfect or complete number.

When you hold a mala, hold it loosely in one hand, with the strand over the ring finger. When you start to recite the mantra, take hold of the first bead behind the guru bead. The guru bead is the large bead on the center of the mala. As you say the mantra each time, use your thumb and bring the next bead towards you. You pass away from the guru bead.

Prayer beads are made from bodhi seeds, sandalwood, or other types of wood. Prayer beads can also be made from different types ! of gemst ones.

Mantras can be recited for one of four different purposes. There are mantras to appease, to increase, to overcome and to tame by forceful means. An appeasing mantra can serve to purify the mind and to clear away obstacles such as illness. An increasing mantra serves to increase ones lifespan, knowledge or other such pursuits. An overcoming mantra serves to benefit someone other than oneself. And a mantra to tame by forceful means serves to tame malicious spirits.

Your mala should always be treated with care. Do not allow your mala to fall onto the floor, and store it in a mala bag when it's not in use. Mala beads are meant for the user only, they should not be handled by others. Using a mala in meditation is very useful for those beginning to practice meditation, and for those who are proficient as well.

Know the misconceptions of Yoga

Yoga

Article by Patresia Adams

Even though, Yoga has now become very popular in India and abroad, there are a number of misconceptions of Yoga in the minds of people. Many still take it as something only for the saints and not for the common people. Now if one goes by the words of Patanjali, the father of Indian Yoga, Yoga is nothing, but the ability to control the modifications of the mind with one's will power. In simple words, it is the reunion of the self with the divine power. It can be termed as a mental state of mind where you cut yourself from the rest of the world and find the inner peace and comfort.

Misconceptions of Yoga at a glance:

You must have seen people who have the power of stopping the circulation of blood or go without food for days or can obstruct a truck. Well, all this requires constant practice, but still it is not Yoga.

Similarly, incidents like breaking iron plates or walking through fire can not be called Yoga practices.

There are people who can remain underground for weeks and also claim to read another person's mind. Now, this again should not be considered as Yoga.

Holding breath for long time, making complicated postures are again not something you can say Yoga or related to Yoga.

Treatment with Yoga:

Yoga is undoubtedly very effective in curing various diseases and also helps in staying fit and healthy. Just by practicing Yoga 15 minutes a day, one can keep himself fit and fine. Now, what more you can ask for?

Divine Wellness is an online platform offering information and consultations on holistic wellness tailored for individual's requirements. Three Secrets You Need to Know About the Monkey Mind So That You Can Stop Spinning!

Posted: 02 Feb 2012 03:00 AM PST

Article by Lynn Scheurell

The term "monkey mind" was originally coined by Zen Buddhist monks to describe the condition of your mind racing from one thought to the next, creating mental churn that saps you of vital life force energy. We here in the Western world experience it as that which keeps us in busywork mentality, feeling overwhelmed, susceptible to taking on too much and having really long, sleepless nights.

While monkey mind has come to have a negative connotation, it also has a vital purpose. The reason it exists is to process information necessary for both survival and problem-solving. These are functions that are as significant as any other body function; the challenge is that, by virtue of its role, it continuously handles information. Monkey mind is activated due to system overload when there is more information than mental processing bandwidth. Myth has it that there is more information in one Sunday edition of The Wall Street Journal than there was available for an entire lifetime when Thomas Jefferson lived, so you can see where our innate mind has learned to race to keep up.

Knowing that the monkey mind has a viable and valuable job helps to honor when it takes an active role in your life. However, there are three secrets that, when you know them, can completely change your understanding of how you are living your life.

The first secret of the monkey mind is that it is your servant. That is, you have the power to consciously direct it's activities through focus and addressing whatever it is working on in the moment. The din of the monkey mind is similar to that created in a room full of people having individual conversations - all together, it just makes noise. However, if you handle each conversation individually, they begin to make sense. In the monkey mind, these conversations are information that you may need to know; if you acknowledge what your servant is doing, reporting or working on, your monkey mind will move on. It requires, however, that you being present to your monkey mind! to allo w information processing.

The second secret of the monkey mind is that it processes by opposition. That is, we live in a world of duality where every item/condition/state of being has its' opposite. For example, up has down, left has right, and masculine has feminine. The monkey mind is trained through our Western socialization development to function by repetition and in a linear fashion. Therefore, it will chug down a linear thought path, which becomes a pattern over time.

The idea is that the monkey mind can, as a result of repetition and logical order, accordingly and effectively handle the issues that challenge us most, such as whether to move or stay put, to pay down debt or make an investment, to get a new job or start a business. There are many conflicting desires in our world that cause the monkey mind to become activated. The secret is in knowing that it processes by opposition, so if you feed it with lots of potentially conflicting information, it will eventually sort it all out for you in a linear fashion.

The third secret of the monkey mind is that its' voice is the loudest when you are making big change for yourself or have the opportunity to do so. Remember, its job is to protect and provide information for survival. If your status quo is threatened in any way, even if you wanted and initiated the change, your monkey mind will intervene to let you know there's an influx of new information. The key to appreciating this secret is that it can be your indicator that you are on your right path to creating significant change in some way.

While the monkey mind has limited wisdom in some ways, knowing these three secrets can mean the difference from letting it make you crazy to allowing it to help you in a more meaningful way.

How to Get Rid of Stress with Ayurveda, Exercise and Home Remedies

Posted: 01 Feb 2012 10:00 PM PST

Article by Dr. Mital John

Stress can become overwhelming when it is not managed properly. Stress can cause problems with relationships of all kinds. We are all confronted with stress on a daily basis. It is how these things are interpreted and how we manage our stress that determines how much stress our minds and bodies endure. You can reduce your overall stress with these steps.

Each of us has experienced stress in our lives, which can be brought about by so many reasons: financial concerns, family problems, work pressure, and so on. Stress can also be brought about by environmental factors, such as not receiving sufficient natural light and air, chemicals from food, and the intake of stimulants, including caffeine, tobacco, and alcohol.

According to Ayurveda, stress is a state where the mind is imbalanced. The mind is considered to be balanced when it is not agitated, and is firm and stable. When the mind is in a stable state, the individual has the maximum potential to act or behave in ways that continue to keep the mind in a balanced state.

More specifically, the mind has three states or "gunas". They are "sattva" (knowledge, purity), "rajas" (action, passion) and "tamas" (inertia, ignorance). Mental disorders or imbalances are caused when "sattva" decreases and "rajas" and "tamas" increase. As "sattva" decreases, mental strength, determination, and the power to discriminate.

How to Reduce Stress through Exercise: -

* When you exercise your body produces endorphins, which provide a natural high. The increased level of endorphins in your body will help you to think more positively about everything in your life, which in turn, helps reduce stress.* Whether you are running alone, or playing basketball with others, focusing on the physical activity that you are involved in will reduce your stress. By focusing on your exercise routine, you are forgetting about the stresses of your day, and your "to do list" for the rest of the day. This plays a big role in overall stress reduction.* Regular e! xercise can also reduce your stress levels by increasing your self-confidence and improving the mood you are in. When you are less stressed out, you feel better about things in general, and have less of a tendency to feel depressed about matters, so get out and exercise today.

Get Rid of Stress with Home Remedies: -

* Drink tea made form Sage. Boil 1 teaspoon of dried sage leaves in a cup of water. Boil for a few minutes. Strain and drink. This alleviates all stress conditions.* Eat foods rich in vitamins A and B complex and those rich in calcium, potassium and magnesium. These foods are beloved to release stress and act as anti-irritants.* Exercise and meditate regularly. These two forms of physical and mental activates help reduce stress and lets you maintain a positive and cheerful attitude.* Talk to your doctor if the problems persist for a long time. Taking anti-depressants as prescribed by your doctor could go a long way in keeping you cheerful and stress free.

If a magic pill makes me happy, is my happiness real?

Posted: 01 Feb 2012 10:00 PM PST

Does happiness need to be deserved to be genuine? Here's one person, virtuous, moral, ethical. She's kind and generous. Volunteers at her kid's school. Helps out at the homeless shelter. Prays, meditates, goes to church.

All this do-gooding and God-praising makes her happy.

We know, because she scores high on reputable psychological tests that measure happiness. And when she's put in a brain scanner and asked to think about her good works, her left prefrontal cortex "lights up," which is an indicator of a positive mental state.

Here's another person, a gangster. He's sociopathic, vicious, mean, law-breaking. After stealing some high-tech stuff from a warehouse, he learns that another shady-dealer is willing to pay him $ 4 million for the stolen goods.

All this criminality makes him happy. Not just after a successful heist, almost all of the time. He's a happy guy. Breaking the law is what he loves to do. Also, breaking bones when he feels like it. We know, for the same reasons noted above: psychological tests and brain scanning.

So are both manifestations of happiness equally real, equally genuine? Is there any reason to say that the virtuous woman is happier than the malevolent man?

Tough questions.

Which are ably addressed by philosopher Owen Flanagan in his book, "The Bodhisattva's Brain: Buddhism Naturalized," which I've blogged about here, here, and here. His focus, obviously, is on Buddhism when he investigates the supposed relationship between virtue and happiness. But the issue is universal.

And complicated. There are lots of subtleties to consider. I enjoyed the thoughtful care with which Flanagan arrives at what turns out to be a non-conclusion. Here's an excerpt from his final chapter.

I still do not see, despite trying to see for many years, why understanding the impermanence of everything including myself [a core Buddhist tenet] makes a life of maximal compassion more rational than a life of hedonism. And isn't that the problem that we keep coming back to, the problem or question that doesn't go away?

...My own way of dealing with this problem is to be and live as a platonic hedonist, to try to maximize pleasures at the places where what is true and beautiful and good intersect. The comfort associated with living in this space, insofar as there is any, comes from thinking that no answer is the right answer to the question of how one ought to live. Thinking this is compatible with thinking that there is much worthwhile in the wisdom of the ages, including Buddhism.

Perhaps all we can expect of philosophical reflection, especially among those of us who live in multicultural, cosmopolitian communities, is that different ways of being and living, different experiments in conceiving of good lives and of trying to embody the wisdom contained in these different ways, keep many options alive, and allow maximal freedom in finding ways to be well and to live well, and perhaps, if we are lucky, to be happy.

...For that purpose, for going forward, Buddhism has something to offer. Is it the answer? Of course not. Nothing is the answer. This is something Buddhism teaches.

Flanagan talks about "the normative exclusion clause" when discussing the relationship between virtue (however it's conceived) and happiness. I hadn't come across that term before, but I've lived it, as has virtually everybody who has embraced an organized religion, spirituality, or mystical practice at one time or another.

Do X, Y, and Z, and you'll be happy. That's the promise. But the problem is that other people do A, B, and C, or D, E, and F, and they also are happy. So what's going on?

If I believe in a guru and embrace every virtue that he advises, while someone else believes in Jesus and embraces every virtue that he advises, and we both end up happy, what's can be concluded? That happiness, a good life, human flourishing (eudaimonia), can be found in many different ways, or that some forms of happiness are The Real Deal and others are worthless fakes?

I lean toward "whatever works." The normative exclusion clause seems judgmental, rigid, moralistic, Protestant ethic'y and holier-than-thou to me. Here's how Flanagan describes it.

...that only happiness caused by virtue counts as wholesome, virtuous -- the kind we are interested in. Defending the normative exclusion clause requires argument. Here are some bases on which one might mount a plausible defense.

First, we might think that there are reasons to say that happiness is only deserved if the happy person participates in producing that state, which she does not do if it is simply produced by a magic pill. Or, in the false-belief case, we might say that an epistemic norm, our commitment to truth, excludes cases where happiness is won by delusion.

Well, I'm fine with getting happiness from a magic pill. Like I said, whatever works. If you've got a happiness-producing magic pill, share it with me. With this caveat, which applies to my worry about religion:

Side effects should be minimal. I'm not interested in a magic pill which makes me happy, but other people miserable. Nor do I want to take a magic pill which makes me happy at first, but sad later -- when the negative side effects kick in.

Hey, if people feel good by believing in weird notions, go for it, dudes and dudettes. More power to you. LIfe is tough. Whatever gets you through the days and nights, embrace it. Even religion. Marx called it the "opium of the people."

Problem is, opium can have some serious side effects. A little is OK. A lot can kill you.

Likewise, there's nothing wrong with getting happiness however, wherever, and whenever you can enjoy some. Forget that "normative exclusion clause." Happiness is just as real with and without someone's notion of virtue.

Just watch out for those side effects. In the case of religion, these include sanctimoniousness, controlling behavior, judgmentalism, excessive self-absorption, violence, and a host of others.

How Meditation Can Help You Get Over Fear Of The Dentists

Posted: 01 Feb 2012 08:00 PM PST

Article by A Aaronson

Fear of dentists is a serious problem for a significant percentage of the population. As this fear becomes more recognized, there are new techniques used to deal with it. The important thing is to defeat it so that you can get into the chair and get your teeth taken care of. One great method that works easily is meditation.

Meditation is something that is seen in a strange light in western cultures. However, it has great benefits for all areas of your life, including stress reduction, clearer and more focused thinking, health benefits and beating phobias like the one that keeps you from seeing the dentist. Here is how you can use meditation to get over your fear of visiting your dentist.

Step One - Where Do You Feel It?

When you think of visiting the dentist, you get a physical reaction somewhere in your body. Just this simple thought causes a butterfly in your stomach or an anxious feeling in your back. Picture going to the dentist and visualize yourself getting into the chair. When you do this, where do you feel your anxiety? Locate the part of your body that reacts.

Step Two - Put It In Its Place

Once you've identified the location of your fear of dentists, visualize it. Imagine that it's a person and give it a name. Tell it that you're going to control it and it's not going to control you. It doesn't matter how you visualize your fear of dentists, but what does matter is that you isolate it from the rest of your being. This separation is really important, because once you can separate it, you can successfully put it away.

The key to why meditation works is that it allows the mind to focus on one thing. All day long, your mind is bombarded with stimuli and this creates a disordered state. By focusing on one single thing, meditation teaches you how to control your mind. We're going to focus on your fear of dentists so that we can learn how to control it. Fear owns you; instead, you're going to own it. Tell it that it's not going to bother you today.

Ste! p Three - Practice

Finally, you're going to practice. Bring up that fear just like you did at the beginning of the exercise, and focus on it. Give it an image or a name so that it's easy to visualize, and separate it from yourself. If you do this repeatedly, it will become easier to do and easier to control. Keep doing it until you can instantly take that feeling of fear out of your stomach or back, and push it out of you entirely.

Meditation isn't magic and it's not going to get you completely comfortable with a dentist instantly. However, it gives you a tool that you can use to take that anxiety and put it in the back of your mind so that you can go through with your visit. It may still be there, but it will be a small thing that won't stop you from making your appointment. For most people, just overcoming this anxiety one time and getting through an appointment makes them realize that there is no reason to fear dentists at all.
