A monk may leave the monkhood any time he wishes. The Thai ordination is a public notice of a man's intention to follow the Buddha's teaching. He is not obliged to remain a monk for life, nor does any stigma attach should he decide to return to secular life.

Although Buddhism flourished during the Ayutthayan period, historically little is known of Ayutthayan Buddhism because of the near total destruction of the Kingdom's records. The years following 1767 found Buddhism in disarray. The situation improved when the first Chakri king, Rama I, re-established religious as well as social order.

A later Chakri king, Mongkut (Rama IV), founded a new Buddhist sect during his monastic years. The Dhammayutika sect, a basic reform of the existing Mahannikai sect, stressed stricter interpretation of monastic discipline, stipulated changes in ordination procedures, and emphasized studying the original Theravada scriptures in the ecclesiastic language of Pali.

Today, Theravada Buddhism is the professed religion of over 90% of the Thai people, and profoundly influences everyday life. It finds expression in the Thais' to-lerance and kindness towards their fellow men, regardless of race, creed or nationality. It is visibly strengthened by the close daily contact the laity enjoys with Buddhist monks during morning food collections and casual meetings. People acquire 'merit' by donating food to the monks; by building and renovating temples; by constructing hospitals; and by showing kindness and com-passion to all living creatures. Such merit favourably affects one's present as well as future incarnations.

All major Buddhist holy days are national holidays. These include Makkha Bucha (commemorating the miraculous occasion when 1250 disciples gathered spontaneously to hear the Buddha preach); Visakkha Bucha (the holiest day in Thailand, marking the Buddha's birth, enlightenment and death); Asalaha Bucha (commemorating the Buddha's first sermon to his first five disciples); and Khao Phansa (the ! commence ment of the annual three-month Rains Retreat when all monks stay inside their monasteries to study and meditate).

Buddhist monks chant auspicious stanzas blessing the openings of new businesses. They officiate at housewarmings. They chant and annoint new ships, air-planes and even cars. Brides and grooms make meritorious offerings of food on their wedding days and are blessed and sprinkled with holy water. Monks also chant prayers during nightly rites preceding cremations.

One fundamental reason for the Thai laity's generous support of the Sangha (the Buddhist monastic order) is that there are few Buddhist families in which at least one member has not studied the Buddha's teaching within monastic surroundings. Not uncommonly, a man, after discharging his worldly duties and family obligations, will spend his remaining years as a Buddhist monk.

It has likewise long been a Thai custom for Buddhist males over twenty to be temporarily ordained as Buddhist monks, gene-rally during the annual Rains Retreat. Government offices, certain sections of the armed forces and larger private companies make temporary ordinations easier by granting their employees three months' leave with full salary.

Temporary ordination, ranging from five days to three months, is not the exclusive privilege of any one class. Everyone from a farmer's son to royalty may take this unique change for self-improvement. Both H.M. King Bhumipol and his son, Thailand's Crown Prince, H.R.H. Prince Vajiralongkom, have been monks for short periods. Their acts continue a tradition in which Buddhism unites all Buddhist members of society.

Yoga: Helping You Cope with Menopause

Posted: 25 Feb 2012 11:00 AM PST

Article by James Pendergraft

For a woman, her monthly menstrual cycle is a testament to her womanhood. It provides affirmation of her capability to give life and bear children. However, when menopause comes, it indicates not only the cessation of a woman's capability to support life but also an unequivocal sign of aging. To a woman, the menopause is a bittersweet stage when one can look back with satisfaction at a life well loved yet looking forward at the sign that in a few years one will have to tackle aging problems. This can be a tormenting time for any woman, and it can cause emotional torment on her.

However, despite the dreadful imaginings that are attached to menopause, there is hope available that can provide relief from the emotional and physical woes with menopause.

One of these hopes is yoga. This ancient Indian art that is aimed at achieving Holistic physical and emotional balance offers hope that the woman's menopause period need not be that difficult. Thanks to yoga, coping with menopause can be much easier.

Understanding the Benefits of Yoga

1)Yoga is a meditative procedure. Because of this, one will be able to achieve an inner harmony that allows one's mind to be relaxed. In turn, this leads to better blood flow and promotes deep breathing that generally benefits the body.

2)With yoga, one will be able to learn to accept the inevitable things. This is because the art teaches people to become meditative and learn to focus on things other than those that cause strain on one's thinking.

3)By its simple presence, yoga allows people to be preoccupied with something. This allows women going through menopause to have some diversions in their thinking instead of focusing only on menopause.

4)Yoga is commonly done by groups. Because of this, a woman will be able to cultivate friendships with various individuals. This is beneficial in that this system allows a woman to expand her social base. Likewise, this will also enable her to have more friends.Knowing the Requirements! for Yog aYoga can be done alone or with groups. When done alone, a woman must make sure that there will be the least disturbances. A key consideration here is to avoid doing yoga in the living room or in other areas where one is likely to be disturbed. Moreover, it would be better to have it during times when people are less likely to bother each other. At daytime, doing yoga at early afternoon is a great way to avoid distraction. One must select a part of the house where one will have a dose of fresh air. Open the window and relish in the gentle breeze. The soft wind should be relaxing to both mind and body. In order to make yoga more comfortable, one must sit on a praying mat that is comfortable. One must avoid doing yoga in bed or in soft mattresses because movements and shifting of these bases due to application of pressure can distract a person.

How To Make Friends And Keep Them

Posted: 25 Feb 2012 11:00 AM PST

Do you find it difficult to make new friends? Or keep friendships alive? Do you find yourself in a situation where you would love to have close friends but find no way to make that a reality?

While it is easy to make friends in childhood, more and more people find that once they leave college, new friends become a rarity. There are a lot of colleagues and co-workers and great people you gel well with. But somehow, nothing translates itself into friendship that stays alive. While some are lucky enough to have their childhood friends last a lifetime, a vast majority of us find our stream of friendships thinning away. The old friends wander away and the new ones are difficult to find and make.

So here are some simple pointers on how to make friends and keep them –

To Make New Friends ….
  1. Expose yourself to new people
You obviously won't find people knocking at your door and asking you to be friends with them. To make new friends, you got to meet and interact with new people. And not only that, you need to meet the same group of people frequently enough to click and to know each other enough to carry the friendship forward.

A great way to do this is to find groups/activities of things you love doing or would love to learn. This will bring you together with people who already share your passions and interests – a great thing to build your friendship upon. So start thinking of groups you can join or even start for that matter.

  2. Increase one on one interaction
Joining a gr! oup is n ot enough. If you simply come, do your thing and go, the entire exercise will be futile. The more you interact with people one on one, the more you get to know people, the more chances you have of clicking right and bonding with them. The more you interact, the more chances you get to make friends.

While making friends means being tolerant of shortcomings and celebrating the positives (since no one's perfect), it does not mean that you make anyone your friend. Be choosy but not too choosy. Give people a chance but don't force yourself if you feel uncomfortable. And most importantly, don't forget to be yourself. A friendship formed when you are acting as someone else can't and won't last.

An excellent way to get opportunities to interact one on one with others is to be early at the meeting place. If you are first, you get alone time with others and hence get to know them better.

  3. Send great vibes
A great mindset to have when you meet new people is that they are already your friends. This not only makes you feel comfortable and friendly towards others, but people will often reciprocate in kind. People instantly like people who seem friendly and who like them. It's natural to return whatever it is that you are getting. So send vibes of friendship and get the same back.
To Keep Your Friends….
  1. Stay in touch
It is rightly said that it is easy to make friends but difficult to keep them. In any relationship, it's the maintenance part which requires work and effort on your end. To stay in touch means to call up when not required just to know what's going on in other person's life. To stay in touch means to let the other person know that you are inter! ested in the little stuff that happens in their lives. To stay in touch means to convey that you care and that they are important to you.

Birthdays, anniversaries, New Years, etc., provide you with an excuse to call the other person. Although you simply can't wait for such events to come. Meeting regularly by way of monthly get togethers or game night or lunch/dinners, are great ways to stay in touch. With SMS, email, and social platforms like Facebook, it's become easier than before to stay in touch with each other.

  2. Be there for friends
People remember people who stand by them in their joys and sorrows. It's important to be there for friends in their times of celebration and times when they need someone.

No matter how busy you are or how inconvenient it is, doesn't matter if you are late by a couple of days, be there for your folks. There is nothing that cements a bond of friendship as strong as being there for the other person on important days/times of their life.

  3. Share your life
As much is being part of other person's life important, that much important it is to open up and share your life with them. This is the beauty and simplicity of friendship. You care and share each other's life. By allowing friends to be a part of your life, by sharing with them glimpses of your life, you provide them with a chance to know you better; you provide them with a chance to be your friend.
In the end, don't forget that your first friend is you. If you can comfortably be you, if you can accept and love yourself just the way you are, if you can be your very best friend, then you will find friends everywhere. This is because it is easy to make friends when there is! no need to please the other, when you can be genuine and be yourself. It is easy to make friends when you are not focused on what impression you are making, whether you are looking good or what others are thinking about you. It is easy to make friends when you are simply you and you open space for the other person to be just who he/she is.

Yoga is a more balanced movement system. For example, weight training is only a certain muscle groups, yoga exercise at the same time all the major muscle groups to do so to avoid the election materials were often cite the joints and muscle fatigue.

Some people contended that the games like jogging is take a deep breath, there is no need to engage in special breathing exercise. But in reality, these Western movements are our shortness of breath, which is a kind of spastic fast jitter, thus increasing absorption of oxygen consumed by the loss of energy involved in the movement. Spiritual Side of God

Posted: 25 Feb 2012 09:00 AM PST

Article by Elizabeth J Dabrowski

Is there a difference between spirituality and religion? And if there is one, what is it?

According to Wikipedia 'Many equate spirituality with religion, but the two are separate entities; religion being just one way in which humans can experience spirituality. As cultural historian and yogi, William Irwin Thompson put it, "Religion is not identical with spirituality; rather religion is the form spirituality takes in civilization." Whilst the terms spirituality and religion can both refer to the search for the Absolute or God (or whatever name you want to use), the experience of 'spirituality'; the human emotions of awe, wonder and reverence, are also the province of the secular/scientific, in response to their highest values, or when observing or studying nature, or the universe. One might say then, that the key difference is that religion is a type of formal external research, while spirituality is defined as a search within oneself.'

I think the biggest difference is in the fact that traditional orthodoxical religions, even though they acknowledge that God is Spirit, during the process of teaching and preaching, manage to convince us that he (excuse the male reference but it is just an old habit), apart from super natural powers, has a lot of human-like attributes (e.g. rewarding - heaven, punishing - hell) which automatically make him a separate identity from us, even more if we are taught we are his children; he watches not only over us but he watches us very closely, judging our every step, thought, everything we do.

So it is only logic that we perceive him as a Being in his own right and unless we have everything we want in life (does it ever happen?), we either keep blaming him or being scared of him but we do not identify ourselves as an integral part of him. As a matter of fact we and he are not partners, quite opposite; we are absolutely powerless in comparison and one hundred percent at his mercy.

And how could we not be? From the moment we were born we have be! en tryin g, better or worse, to secure the best outcomes for our own affairs so even if we are very religious we will be trying in many different ways to convince him to be on our side.

When we start discovering spirituality we find another side of God, the Spiritual side. We start grabbing new concepts and ideas rediscovering the meaning of God on a completely new level. Our understanding becomes deeper and more comprehendible, based on conscious choices we make as we progress.

Often we will be overwhelmed, as the idea of spirituality may be new to at least some of us, but nevertheless it is very simple, as life is simple if we do not complicate it.

If you have troubles in understanding this concept, read U.S. Andersen's "Three Magic Words ". He explains it on the basis of quantum physics in such a simple and logic way. It is a great book which I cannot recommend highly enough, and I wish I read it at least ten years ago.

But as they say "there is always a reason for everything" and I do believe that the books which show up on our ways are the right ones for us, which leads me to another issue: we do not learn from happy events, we learn through struggles.

I am not saying it is not possible to learn from nice and pleasant experiences; if you can appreciate them enough and analyze what needs to be done to have more of them in your life, your spiritual education will be so much smoother and probably quicker, but majority of us have the tendency to complicate everything. So majority learn through struggle and it takes much longer. Of course, those are our own choices and blaming anybody will not make it easier, quite opposite; it will create more struggle!

But then, I believe, all the struggles are worth the realization that we are inseparable part of the Universe; that What we call God is the Universe, The Intelligence, The Energy of which we all consist as well. The liberation in our thinking brings us hope and power to create our lives as we want them to be.

Discovering Life On Gay Spirituality Vacations

Posted: 25 Feb 2012 08:00 AM PST

Article by Howie Holben

Gay tourists go on vacation for an array of purposes, including the chance to see new things, meet interesting people, learn about different cultures, get away from everyday stressors for a short time, or make new memories with special people in their lives. Every trip has a purpose, even if the reason is just to get away and lounge on the beach without worrying about the everyday cares and worries back home.

Gay spiritual vacations are one example of purposeful travel that goes beyond the common quest to relax and rejuvenate and is undertaken with a specific awareness and intention. Whereas most travelers go on vacation with the goal to get away from it all, voyagers on a gay spirituality vacation embark on their journey with the intention to arrive in their special, chosen destination and to connect with the land, the people and the energy of that region.

Spiritual travel opportunities include solo conscious travel, couple's retreats that allow you to reconnect and grow individually and together, and spiritual journeys taken with a group of like-minded seekers arranged by professional groups that organize travel to many spiritual destinations around the globe, such as Egypt, Thailand, New Zealand, India, Peru, the American Southwest and Mexico.

Individual pilgrimages are one option for spiritual vacations, but there are several benefits that come with choosing professionally organized conscious travel with a group of fellow seekers who can significantly influence the positive experience and spiritual growth you achieve during your joint journey. Professional companies that provide opportunities for spiritual travel have the information and experience needed to create powerful, meaningful personal voyages that will result in remarkable experiences that stay with the participants for the remainder of their lives.

Conscious travel tours visit sacred sites, provide organized group activities and manage logistical aspects of the trip to allow you to focus on your personal jou! rney and growth. Professional tour groups also have ongoing relationships with locals in each destination, which provides participants with opportunities to see and experience things that are unavailable to solo travelers on conventional vacations.

Seekers who opt for gay spiritual travel with a group are gifted with the chance to connect with fellow travelers of a like mind who are also on a journey with the intention of experiencing spiritual awakening and renewal, or reconnection and centering. Traveling with a group gives participants the unique opportunity to learn from the experiences or others, share in group activities, discuss occurrences during this particular voyage, share their stories with others and form lasting bonds with new friends.

Anyone seeking a truly meaningful journey with a focus on partaking in a unique travel experience with the intention of spiritual centering and personal growth should consider undertaking spiritual travel as they begin to consider options for their next vacation. Partaking in a spiritual journey is the pinnacle of self care and allows you to take the opportunity to refocus on the people and things that are important in your life, reset your priorities and return home centered and refreshed.

Treat yourself to the opportunity to partake in a personal voyage focused on reflecting on your past experiences, learning to live in the moment and discovering ways to nourish your soul for a centered spiritual life. Participating in intentional travel is a fulfilling experience that can change your life and allows you to return home with the tools and intention of living every day centered, focused and aware.

Common Misconceptions about Yoga (Asana Practice)

This was a talk I gave at a small health awareness conference in order to get people interested in Yoga. No-one in my audience had done any Yoga before. I didn't want to make it dry or boring, so I did that little schizophrenic stunt there. I did sport the glasses, too. I don't mean to make Yoga ridiculous, but I have no problem with making myself ridiculous in front of others. Anything to make people smile. The questions are inspired by what the people around me (critical, analytical westerners, usually) wonder about. As to the content of my answers - feel free to disagree, but bear in mind that this is not an in depth discussion about all aspects of Yoga. It mostly talks about Yoga as in "Asana practice". Finally, as I always stay a student, none of my words are carved in stone. Thanks for watching. DFTBA! www.RockTheMat.com

A Mind Reading Trick For A Lifetime Of Success

Posted: 25 Feb 2012 05:00 AM PST

Article by Greg Frost

The mind is a powerful organ for reading and also for reasoning in the right way. But the mind does not just reason because it wishes to reason but sometimes is controlled by the individual. Of course when reading, the mind is totally concentrated to what is being read though sometimes the person may read without actual concentration, but this is this occurs rarely. Mind Reading trick is very crucial when an individual is interested not to deviate from what they are reading.

Most often, to achieve appropriate understanding from what is being read, it is good to have enough good rest. Rest is so important that without it a lot of things go wrong. The mind as a body organ for reading should be given enough rest before it can function properly. This even explains why the mind finds no difficulty concentrating in morning hours as compared to the afternoon session. This means in order to understand what is being read, it is good to have enough rest.

Besides it is always good to read what you find interesting and appealing. When you read something you lack interest in, it often leads to boredom and sometimes result to sleep in between studies. Reading topics of interests refreshes the brain again and again and can result to a healthy lifestyle all together.

Moreover, the mind acts in such a way that it concentrates better when there is a routine a routine to follow. For instance anyone who makes up their minds to study at a particular time of the day easily absorbs what is being read because the mind is programmed to absorb studies at that time. This is a general rule of the mind; it performs better when programmed to act in a certain way.

Nevertheless, to see to it that concentration of the mind is not so disrupted, it is imperative to avoid certain things such as drinking alcohol or even taking in hard drugs such as cocaine, heroin or 'weed'. These are dangerous drugs to the human mind and its functionality. These can distort your way of thinking.

Reading in very ! tranquil lity may also serve as prerequisites to effective understanding of what is being read or studied. Usually quite places can be freaky, therefore making an environment so conducive for learning is very important. Of course, most people find joy and happiness when studying in tranquil atmospheres.

Sometime reading may be difficult not because of where an individual is reading from, on these occasion taking advantage of mind reading tricks can help an individual understand what they're studying.

A mind reading trick can easily be obtained if the one involved knows exactly what disrupts his or her when reading. Reprogramming Your Subconscious Mind with Affirmations

Posted: 25 Feb 2012 02:00 AM PST

Article by frank tibss

Reprogramming Your Subconscious Mind with Affirmations

You might already be familiar with the power of affirmations. They're short, positive statements that you can read, repeat to yourself, or listen to from recordings. With affirmations, you can reprogram your subconscious mind to help you think more positively about yourself.

An example of an affirmation is "I am calm and relaxed." It doesn't matter what your current state actually is, you can still achieve this state by repeating and believing the affirmation. Your subconscious mind will pick up on the statement and bring forth the new feelings.

Affirmations Can Change Your Life

When it comes to the world of affirmations, the only requirement is to approach it with an open mind. After that, you simply allow the statements to wash over you and you can change your life all by yourself.

It's may seem difficult at first, but the key is to get the affirmation into your subconscious mind. This is easiest when you're just waking up or when you're drifting off to sleep. These are moments when your conscious mind is less likely to interfere.

If you use the "I am calm and relaxed" example without an open mind, of course your conscious mind will say "Hey! I'm not calm and relaxed." Don't get frustrated if your conscious mind likes to jump in a lot; eventually the messages will make it to your subconscious mind.

How Affirmations Work

If you pay close attention to how your mind really works, you'd be surprised at how often your mind slips into negativity about yourself and other situations. Using affirmations will allow you to communicate with your subconscious mind and change those thoughts.

Affirmations have the power to recode your mind in the same manner that a computer program can be written. You actively spend time saying and concentrating on these short positive statements and, eventually, your subconscious mind picks up on them.

It may take some time and practice for affirmations to ! work for you. Some people report that they see results from their efforts right away, while others find that it takes longer for them to reach the subconscious.

How To Use Affirmations

There are a few ways that you can choose to use your affirmations. First, concentrate on the things in your life that you want to change. Try to keep it simple by focusing on one at a time.

Common topics are usually health, wealth and relationships. You might use affirmations such as "I feel energized" or "I enjoy my job." Write a few different ones that pertain to the same subject.

Then choose a time to repeat the sayings to yourself every day. You can even make a recording of yourself repeating the affirmations with soothing music in the background. This is especially helpful for using affirmations in the morning and at night when you have a stronger link to your subconscious.

Tips for writing your own affirmations:

* Write them in the present tense, because that's the only way to improve your life in the present moment. * Be short and concise to keep things simple.* Read and write your affirmations when you're calm and away from distractions.* Remember to stay positive.

Wash, Rinse, Repeat

Make sure you keep up with your affirmations. If you don't see results right away, try sticking with it for a while longer. Before you know it, you'll realize that these short simple sentences have improved your outlook, one thought at a time!

How to Incorporate Meditation into Your Busy Life

Posted: 25 Feb 2012 12:00 AM PST

Article by Avinoam Lerner

For its well-documented benefits of improved health and emotional equilibrium, many people become interested in meditation but find it too difficult. Their mind wanders. They feel impatient. Their body gets twitchy. They can't release their worries enough to focus. Or they feel out of tune with the spiritual overtones of a particular meditation tradition they may have sampled.

People have been practicing meditation for centuries. It is the most popular and effective way to combat stress. It is the process of achieving calmness and tranquility of the mind. In many parts of the world, doctors prescribe meditation along with other medicines for treating diseases. However, it is not so easy to make it a daily routine, especially for those who are new to meditation.

Advantages of Meditation

The medical and psychological benefits of meditation include reduction in stress, less tension, lower blood pressure, increased energy, improved ability to concentrate, less anxiety and a better mood.

The good effects of meditation are not a secret. Even those who do not meditate know what it can do to your mind and body. On the other hand, people who meditate regularly rely on it to achieve peace of mind and body. It can have magical effects on your mind. It helps to maintain a balance between your subconscious mind and conscious mind. Meditation can also help you to tackle everyday stress and other emotional problems of life. Emotional well-being is very important to have a good, successful life. Meditation can slow down aging, which has been scientifically proven. It also reduces blood pressure in people with hypertension.

How Meditation Works

The environment where the meditation is done is a very important factor that affects its outcome. It is usually done in a silent room away from noise and other disturbances. Even the lights are dimmed to get a calm, serene environment. Such an environment will make meditation easier for anyone new to it.

During meditation, an in! visible connection is made between the body and the mind. It affects the mind at the subconscious level. It produces a change in brain waves which leads to relaxation. It also has a calming effect on the nervous system. With this, the amount of stress hormones in the body is lowered, thus eliminating stress. Even a beginner can experience the amount of change it makes with just one session. Daily meditation can have long term benefits. When you experience the real benefit of meditation, the negative thoughts in the mind are eliminated and are replaced with a positive attitude towards life. In turn, your whole body benefits.

Using Guided Meditation

Guided meditation makes it far easier to drop into a deep, stress-releasing state of calm. All you have to do is close your eyes and listen. It's compatible with any religious faith. An interesting, soothing narration invites you to envision scenes of serenity, and your body responds with a slower heartbeat and relaxed brain waves. There are many guided meditation options in the market. It is not difficult to find something that will make it much easier to set aside regular time for meditation by offering a variety of approaches to achieving relaxation and peace.

The four part guided meditation program, "Pure Meditation," includes a focus on relaxing the body, achieving a positive outlook, letting go of negative feelings like anger, bitterness or resentment, and taking a healing journey through tranquil landscapes. Users can either cycle through the four recordings to keep their sessions fresh or choose the one that best corresponds to their mood and needs that day.

Whatever you choose to use, it is possible to enjoy the incredible, scientifically proven benefits of meditation regardless of your schedule.

Adopt Naturopathy & Yoga before it’s too late...

Posted: 24 Feb 2012 11:00 PM PST

Article by Inderjeet

Naturopathy focus on maintaining a balance between the human body and the nature. The latent force in the human body and the nature is actually utilized to cure ailments and restoring lost health, vitality and vigour. It thrives to create the positive effect of the five elements of nature on the human body by creating the natural (as made by nature) balance. This is achieved basically by obeying the natural laws and discipline in life so that healing takes place from within. Naturopathy thus uses the inherent latent power inside our body to heal drugless, by aligning the human body to the natural super system, thus creating a positive balance and aligning the vigour in the desired direction.Naturopathy can cure the following diseases :Constipation, Migraine and headaches,Depression, Dyspepsia,Piles, Myopia, Impotency (Due to depression), Bronchial Asthma,Amoebiasis,Insomnia, Ulcers, Gastritis,Sinusitis,Dysentery,Hyper-acidity, Colitis,Arthritis,Spondylitices- Cervical, Chronic Bronchitis, Diabetes and Heart Disease (Functional),Allergic Rhinitis,General debility, Eosinophilia, Hypertension, Leucorrhoea,Obesity and Menstrual Disorders. Naturopathy is an Alternative therapy and is very helpful in almost all kinds of life style related and diseases.Several systems of treatment like Allopathy, Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Unani and Naturopathy etc. are prevalent in our country and almost all of these are having wide acceptance by public. However, it remains a fact that each system has its own advantages or limitations. No system can claim to be complete in all respects. Therefore the rational approach would be to have an integrated approach in respect of treatment and different system should become complementary to each other in the best interest of suffering masses.Naturopathy an Alternative therapy believes in unity of cause of diseases and unity of their treatment. It's approach is holistic. It treats the body as a complete unit.So far Naturopathy is concerned, it has it's three aspects. First is prev! entive, the second one is curative and the third one is health promotive aspect. When a patient undergoes Naturopathy treatment and peculiarity of approach lies in the fact that, In other systems the patient need not understand the technicalities involved in treatment but in Naturopathy treatment, the patients are required to have a good understanding of the laws governing health and disease. They are grounded well in respect of laws of Nature and are advised to follow them strictly for restoration of health. Health can only be restored or preserved or promoted or prevented from diseases by living in harmony with Nature. In Naturopathy no drugs or medicines are used. It is believed that diseases are outcome of accumulation of foreign matter in the body and health can be restored by eliminating them. Drugs are considered as add to the already accumulated toxins in body and therefore to be discouraged and eliminated. The manifestations of symptoms are indicative of reaction of the body and the only thing that is required to be done is to keep them through drugs and other means. As per Indian beliefs our body is made up of five great elements Earth, Water, Sun, Air and Ether. The imbalances among these five elements are responsible for diseases and the treatment of various diseases with the help of these five element is called Nature Cure. There is a common saying in Naturopathy that all the diseases but not all the patients are curable by Naturopathy. It depends upon vitality of the patients. If sufficient vitality is there in patients, he can be treated successfully irrespective of the type of disease he is suffering from. It is because cure is effected by vitality working within i.e. Nature. However at Naturopathy centers patients generally come for treatment of G.I.T. disorders, Asthma, Cardiac diseases, Obesity, Diabetes, Insomnia, Hypertension, Mental tension, Anxiety, Cold and Cough, Skin diseases and Occupational disorders as a last resort and surprisingly they get improved. In Naturopathy the methods employed ! in treat ment are quite easy and can even be practiced at home. In fact Naturopathy is a science of living in tune with Nature, hence it is a Alternative therapy . It mainly stresses on natural way of life. It not only frees one from diseases but also educates one how to prevent himself from diseases. The methods generally employed in treatment are Mud Pack, Enema, Hot and Cold fomentation, Hip bath, Steam bath, Hot Foot Bath, Sun Bath, Spinal Bath, Mud Bath and several types of packs etc. This being a system of healing without medicine, is free from all the sorts of side effects and iatrogenic diseases which are outcome of medicines. Naturopathy therapy is completely safe Alternative therapy for all and beneficial in almost all the disease conditions provided rightly applied.

Yogic Therapy or Yoga

Yoga is a spiritual science which has been gifted to us by our ancient Sages for the final emancipation. Yoga is a curative and preventive measure for human suffering. The life of man is full of pleasure, pains, stress, and strain. Man is affected by environments, social structures, competition & never ending struggles. He is affected within himself by anxieties, worries, desires, lust, anger, greed, aversion hatred, temptation & so on. Yogic method or Yoga gives the maximum & the minutest techniques for the curve of solid body for mind. Therapy is a treatment. "Treatment for a disorderly mental & Physical condition or diseases with remedial agent of techniques.

Why Yoga is required ?

The most important benefit of yoga is physical and mental therapy. This is the aging process, which is largely an artificial condition, caused mainly by autointoxication or self-poisoning,can be slowed down by practicing yoga. By keeping the body clean, flexible and well lubricated, we can significantly reduce the catabolic process of cell deterioration. To get the maximum benefits of yoga one has to combine the practices of yogasanas, pranayama and meditation.

Regular practice of asanas, pranayam! a and me ditation can help such diverse ailments such as diabetes, blood pressure, digestive disorders, arthritis, arteriosclerosis, chronic fatigue, asthma, varicose veins and heart conditions. Laboratory tests have proved the yogi`s increased abilities of consciously controlling autonomic or involuntary functions, such as temperature, heartbeat and blood pressure. Research into the effects of yogic practices on HIV is currently underway with promising results.

According to medical scientists, yoga therapy is successful because of the balance created in the nervous and endocrine systems which directly influences all the other systems and organs of the body. Yoga acts both as a curative and preventive therapy. The very essence of yoga lies in attaining mental peace, improved concentration powers, a relaxed state of living and harmony in relationships.

Through the practice of yoga, we become aware of the interconnectedness between our emotional, mental and physical levels. Gradually this awareness leads to an understanding of the more subtle areas of existence. The ultimate goal of yoga is to make it possible for you to be able to fuse together the gross material (annamaya), physical (pranamaya), mental (manomaya), intellectual (vijnanamaya) and spiritual (anandamaya) levels within your being.

Chill Out Relax Music - Wonderful Meditation Mantra - Guru Guru Waheguru

www.RajKaregaKhalsa.Net http Guru Guru Waheguru Guru Raam Daas Guru Waheguru (Punjabi: ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ) is the primary Mantra; it means the "Wonderful Lord". The word Vaheguru is made up of two word Vaah(e) and Guru. Vaah or Vaahe is an ecstatic expression of awe and wonder. Therefore it is often translated as wondrous or wonderful. Guru derives from two words. Gu means darkness, and Ru (Roo) means light. Therefore Guru means that power, being, and presence, which dispels darkness and brings light, in other words Enlightener. Cumulatively, the name implies wonder at the Divine Light eliminating spiritual darkness. It might also imply -Hail the Lord whose Name eliminates spiritual darkness. Thus the two constituents of Vaheguru (Vaahe+Guroo) implies the state of wondrous ecstasy and offering homage to the Divine Creator Being. Guru Ram Das is the fourth of the Ten Gurus of Sikh Dharma. Meditating on the name of the Guru, the 4th Master, we are given a connection with the Supreme Being and with it positive spiritual energy. How To Increase Brain Power - And Begin To Release Stress

Posted: 24 Feb 2012 06:00 PM PST

Article by Dianne M. Buxton

Understanding how to increase brain power and how you can release stress simultaneously, is fairly easy. I'll explain how both these things contribute to the effect of the other.

This is a long term plan, and it is a lifestyle change for many. It may sound like a daunting challenge if you are a couch potato or working sitting down for too many hours in a day. Yet the rewards are great.

Forming your own program to have more brain power, slower aging, and understanding how to de-stress, means that as you age, you will find less need for drastic or emergency lifestyle changes. Know that you can prevent premature aging, stress related diseases and physical/mental weakening, and you can also benefit from better moods and critical thinking abilities into old age. Here are the components for a program:

Exercise - Number One!

The physical benefits to exercise are the obvious - stronger muscles, better coordination and better balance. Add to that, improved circulation, lower blood pressure and lower cholesterol. Thus you slow your aging and keep yourself strong and functional.

Emotionally, the benefits of exercise are significant. Exercise lifts your mood. It also improves circulation to your brain, and increases chemicals called "growth factors" that contribute to the manufacture of new brain cells. So in this way, physical challenges and movements neutralize stress.

Insulin resistance is a major factor in aging. Once the body has reached this condition (from lack of effective exercise and a bad diet) weight gain is constant. This syndrome can lead to Diabetes II, obesity, and other inflammatory conditions. Insulin sensitivity can be regained by muscle building exercise, slow motion weight lifting that triggers the fastest twitch muscle fibers. This action triggers a unique cascade of enzymes - chemical messengers - that tells your body to build up the muscle fibers.

When you start building muscle tissue, you start increasing your metabolism. The tendency to gai! n weight will decrease. Slowly, but surely, you will see results in your physique - and also your blood sugar tests. Be sure to tell your doctor your plan, and schedule regular tests. I bet your physician will be a cheer leader for you, if no one else is.

You can learn to exercise for cardio vascular challenge, and weight resistance, pacing it carefully in intervals. There is no rush in this approach - you start where you are right now, and proceed at an appropriate intensity. Enjoy it!

Stress Control

Stress reduction tips often are headed by - exercise! For all the reasons mentioned above plus the fact of you putting aside time for yourself, and perhaps work out with a partner, your child, or a colleague whose company you enjoy. And, as well as the growth factor chemicals mentioned above, exercise produces endorphins, the same feel good neurotransmitters that are produced by sugar, drugs, alcohol and sex. Therefore, adding exercise to your routines is a huge positive.

Healthy Brain Power Diet Also Helps You Control Stress

And not only that, but a better diet gives you the energy to exercise too. So here you have a third factor that works with the other two. And all three factors make the other ones work better. And reducing one factor will reduce the benefits of the other two. It is a wonderful holistic approach.

I personally believe that your attitude is of prime importance. Positive emotions and strong beliefs can override a less than optimum diet, and lack of exercise. To a point. I think that when an emergency crops up, burn out is inevitable if you have not been taking care of yourself. So be aware of the following:

* decreasing or replacing coffee with nutrients for the brain, memory, and cognitive faculties * the B Complex vitamins and extra B12, B6 and Folic Acid for converting proteins to muscle * omega 6 oils and omega 3 oils being consumed for balance and reducing inflammation * antioxidants from dark green leafy vegetables and whole food supplements

Ah, the wrath that awaits us at death--Satsangi Revenge 101!

Posted: 24 Feb 2012 06:00 PM PST

Here's David Lane's great response to some highly judgmental (and theologically questionable) rants by a Sant Mat follower on a recent blog post.

I say "theologically questionable" because Sant Mat teachings, Radha Soami Satsang Beas variety, at least, say that every disciple/initiate, wayward or not, will return to God within four lifetimes under the guidance of the perfect living guru, a.k.a. "God in human form."

So I'm saved! Doubly saved, since I was baptized Catholic. Doesn't that get me entry to purgatory, at minimum? (I'm vague about the details of Catholic dogma; never got confirmed, thank God.)

David writes on the Yahoo Radha Soami Studies discussion group that he administers:

Recently over on Brian Hines' blog (the church of the churchless):

A poster, who I assume is a satsangi (given the content), is miffed at Brian (and me) for his various critiques of Radhasoami, etc.

What I found both intriguing and amusing was this particular rejoinder by the poster who goes by the name of Cam,

"As far as this blog owner and David lane, at least they will live out the rest of their lives somewhat satisfied because their egos got stroked. But come the day of their deaths they are going to be very unhappy campers (and that is an understatement) as the Masters have also clearly described what awaits those who take vows before God and then not only dishonor them, but mock Him besides (and that is exactly what they both have done - extensively)."

So, in an inverse of Bill Murray's classic take on what the Dalai Lama was going to give him [full consciousness at death] for being his caddy (see Caddyshack), apparently Brian and I will being given the wrath of god treatment since the infinite being just doesn't like bloggers who mock......

And as Bill would say, "I got that going for me.... which is nice."

Of course, Cam's rhetoric reminds me of what one priest once told me when I had doubts about Catholicism.

Different religions, same curses.

With kudos to Hines for publishing Cam's invective.

Buddhism Under the Great Kings of India Buddhism

Posted: 24 Feb 2012 05:00 PM PST

Article by Arjanyai

By the time of Asoka, Brahmanism or Hinduism had been in the process of developing from a religion of sacrificial rituals into cults of worshipful devotion (Bhakti) to gods of various names, such as Hari, Narayana, Vishnu and Siva. During his reign, though Buddhism became the ruling faith of the people, the Brahmins were still influential and formed a large part of the ruling class. As soon as Asoka died, a Brahminical reaction set in. His empire became weakened and began to break up. About fifty years after Asoka's death, the Brahmin Pushyamitr, commander in chief of the last Mauryan ruler, assassinated his master and made himself the first king of the Sunga dynasty.

Pushyamitr, in an effort to return northern India to Brahmanism, made two great horse sacrifices and began persecuting the Buddhists. He burnt their monasteries, killed the monks, and even made a declaration that he would reward anyone who presented him with the head of a Buddhist.

However, Pushyamitr was not so powerful as the great kings of the Mauryas and Buddhism did not come to an end through his hostile efforts. In spite of the persecution, most people remained devoted to their faith. Moreover, Buddhism flourished in other kingdoms, both in the north and in the south, which broke away from the former empire of the Mauryas both before and during Pushyamitr's reign. Especially in the northwest, it even found an energetic patronage under an IndoGreek king called Menander.

Menander or Milinda was a great king who, ruled the kingdom of the Bactrian Greeks in northwest India during the same period as Pushyamitr. As a Buddhist, he was both a scholar and a great patron of the religion. A great dialogue on Buddhism between the king and the Elder Nagasena was recorded in the Milindapanha, a well-known Pali masterpiece which was named after him. Around this time, through the Greek influence, there appeared for the first time the making of images of the Buddha. Within a century, this practice became common in northwest I! ndia as a development of the Gandhara school of art and tnen spread and was accepted in all Buddhist lands. The creation of Buddha-images as objects of worship contributed much to the development of religious ceremonies, temples, paintings, sculptures, crafts, and music in later centuries.

Also by this time, a new movement, the so-called Mahayana, had begun to be active in northwest India. Then and there both the Theravada and the Mahayana flourished side by side. From there they spread to Central Asia and, some time before or during the reign of King Mingti (58-75 C.E.), further to China. As time passed by, the centres of the Theravada moved toward the south and flourished outside its homeland. In northern India the Mahayana became stronger while the Theravada weakened. In the ninth century B.E. (4th century C.E.), the Theravada was so weak that the centre at Buddhagaya had to send Buddhaghosa to Ceylon to translate the commentaries back into Pali and bring them back to India.

The Mahayana found great support and flourished under Kanishka, a great king who ruled the Kushan Empire in northwest India and Pakistan in the early half of the seventh century B.E. (1st-2nd century C.E.), and can be said to have taken a separate course of history ever since.

It should be noted that of the five greatest kings of Indian history (from B.E. I till the British occupation in B.E. 2327/1784 C.E.), three were devout Buddhists, one was a softened Hindu, and another one was a Muslim who sought to found a new religion of his own.

The first and the greatest of the greatest was Asoka (B.E.218-260) whose devoted support to the early form of Buddhism caused it to spread for the first time beyond the borders of India, become a world religion and develop into the so-called Buddhist culture of southern Asian countries.

The second was Kanishka (B.E. 621-644/78-101 C.E.), the great patron of Mahayana, who completed the work of Asoka and helped the northern branch of Buddhism to spread far and wide.

The t! hird was Chandragupta II Vikramaditya (B.E.923-956/380-413 C.E.) of the Hindu Gupta dynasty, who reigned during the period when Buddhist institutions had attained great prosperity and been so influential that the Hindu rulers had to depend on Buddhists (such as their own generals or advisers) and Buddhist institutions for their own power and glory, and were forced or induced to become tolerant of Buddhism and to support the Buddhist cause or even became converted to Buddhism themselves.

The fourth was Harsha or Harsha-Vardhana or Harsha Siladitya (B.E. 1149-1191/606-648 C.E.), the last Buddhist emperor of India, who kept the light of Indian Buddhism glowing for a short interval after it had been worn out both by foreign invasions and internal persecution and degeneration, and before it disappeared, through the same causes, from the religious scene of India.

The fifth and last was Akbar (B.E.2103-2148/1560-1605 C.E.) who came to the throne of the Moghul Empire during the Muslim period when Buddhism had long disappeared from India, and, finding himself dissatisfied with the existing faiths, created his own religion of reason called din Ilahi or the Divine Faith which died with him.

Exercise During Pregnancy Is Safe for Moms and Babies

Posted: 24 Feb 2012 05:00 PM PST

Pregnant women who exercise on a regular basis are not putting themselves or their baby in harm's way, a new study finds.

Researchers found that a mother's exercise lowered her baby's resting heart rate, a sign of good health for the baby's heart.

The study is one of the few that looked at the direct effect of exercise on the fetus. Researchers measured fetal heart beat and blood flow through the umbilical cord.

The results also showed that moms to-be who performed 30 minutes of exercise at a moderate or vigorous pace had lower heart rates than moms who exercised a little or not at all.

The findings support existing recommendations that most pregnant women begin or maintain an exercise program, getting at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise per week. However, the researchers noted that study findings did not apply to strenuous exercise. Moreover, only healthy pregnant women were involved in the study, not women who had pregnancy complications.

Researchers from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine looked at 45 healthy pregnant women between 28 and 32 weeks of pregnancy, 15 who didn't exercise, 15 who exercised regularly and 15 who exercised vigorously.

Women were split into two exercise groups, those who were highly active, exercising vigorously more than four days a week, and those who were regularly active, exercising moderately for 20 minutes three or more days a week.

The women first underwent treadmill tests to establish their baseline heart rate ranges for moderate and vigorous exercise sessions. They later returned to perform 30 minutes of exercise on a treadmill, by either walking or jogging.

After exercising, the heart rates of both the moms and babies were checked. Researchers found differences between the women, with the most highly active women having the lowest resting heart rate.

With moderate exercise, all baby health readings were similar before and after exercise. But with vigorous exercise, baby readings showed a decrease in blood flow resistance, which authors speculated could indicate improved blood circulation between mom and baby.

The researchers noted that they only looked at baby responses after one exercise session between 28 and 32 weeks of pregnancy, and said responses could be different during other stages of pregnancy.

According to current guidelines, participating in vigorous exercise during pregnancy is not recommended for women who aren't active, or in women who tend to exercise moderately. Women who are highly active may continue to workout at this level during pregnancy.

The study is published in the March issue of the journal Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Pass it on: Exercising while pregnant is safe for mom and baby.
