Gems of spiritual wisdom-2: Excerpts from discourses of His Grace Madhu Pandit Dasa

Posted: 12 Feb 2012 11:00 AM PST

Article by Venkat.J

Hare Krishna,

Here are some more gems of spiritual wisdom that I fished out from nectarean waters of the discourses of His Grace Madhu Pandit Dasa, President of Srila Prabhupada's ISKCON & Chairman Akshaya Patra. * When you lose association of devotees you also lose faith.* Mission of human organization is spiritual progress* Mission of human organization is to realize the spiritual nature of all living beings

* Every system has a design. Lord has a designed a system for all us too. The system crashes when it is deviated from the Lord's instructions.

* Today's human organization is chaotic because it is not in line with the Lord's instructions.

* We have a role to play in the scheme of Lord. * Prakriti is doing everything while Paramatma is directing. But all the while living being identified them as the cause of the action.* The concept of big, bigger & biggest servant arises from contamination. It is the disease of becoming the master.* Srila Prabhupada our saviour has given us the right lesson & way to approach perfection of life.* Cultivate the attitude of servitude. It purifies our existence.* Servant means order carrier. But by contamination we tend to become order-givers.* Servant means simple. But slowly we become complicated due to contamination.* Krishna consciousness gives practical immunity against all kleshas. This is not philosophy. It can be actually seen in a devotee's life.* We want Prabhupada & Krishna to exploit us because we are their servants.* When we come to Krishna Consciousness we are already liberated.

Log on to http://www.madhupanditdasa.info/discourse for the video recordings of lectures delivered by the President of Srila Prabhupada's ISKCON Bangalore. You can access more videos from You-tube.

These discourses should be able to convince many doubters about the real & pure intentions of HG Madhu Pandit Dasa

528 Hz Frequency Transformation and Miracles (DNA Repair)

These original sound frequencies were apparently used in Ancient Gregorian Chants, such as the great hymn to St. John the Baptist, along with others that church authorities say were lost centuries ago. The chants and their special tones were believed to impart tremendous spiritual blessings when sung in harmony during religious masses. These powerful frequencies were rediscovered by Dr. Joseph Puleo as described in the book Healing Codes for the Biological Apocalypse by Dr. Leonard Horowitz. I give honor to both of these gentleman for the part theyve played in helping return these lost frequencies back to humanity. The Six Solfeggio Frequencies include: UT 396 Hz Liberating Guilt and Fear RE 417 Hz Undoing Situations and Facilitating Change MI 528 Hz Transformation and Miracles (DNA Repair) FA 639 Hz Connecting/Relationships SOL 741 Hz Awakening Intuition LA 852 Hz Returning to Spiritual Order For example, the third note, frequency 528, relates to the note MI on the scale and derives from the phrase "MI-ra gestorum" in Latin meaning "miracle." Stunningly, this is the exact frequency used by genetic biochemists to repair broken DNA the genetic blueprint upon which life is based! Music composed by Jandy AKA JezebelDecibel

Improve Your Mind, Improve Your Life

An empowered mind is more powerful than any marketing strategy, or coaching that you may receive from anyone. An empowered mind can deliver the circumstances, and the opportunities to create wealth and well-being on a scale never before thought possible.

Maximizing the minds ability to perform brings such clarity of thought and an intuition as sharp as a knife. Self-trust is heightened and focus becomes crystal clear enabling you to act upon your intuition immediately, which is known as 'speed of implementation'. Almost every successful entrepreneur credits their success to the fact that they very often acted immediately upon their intuition.

Improving your mind also means increased concentration, greater awareness, enhanced memory and an improved sense of self. Additionally, increased overall well-being is achieved with an improved mindset, because scientifically speaking the body follows the mind.

Those of us who see the importance of improving the mind as it relates to success in every area of our lives, can tap into immense power by starting with a few exercises for sharpening the mind.

Calm the Mind

Meditation is an excellent way to stop the mind chatter that we all experience. A calm mind is the starting point for an empowered mind. Many people find meditation to be mysterious or difficult, but investing in a meditation program like Centerpointe Research Holosync that allows you to meditate effortlessly is one of the best things you can do for yourself when it comes to improving your mind.

Crack Open A Book

If you go long periods of time without reading a book, especially a book that can enhance your knowledge base or engage critical thinking then it is equivalent to going long periods of time without exercising your body. Both are detrimental! This partial list of excellent books can get you started in the right direction:

Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life - Wayne Dyer

Think and Grow Rich ! - Napole on Hill

Tao Te Ching - Lao Tzu

The Alchemist - Paulo Coelho

Tease Yourself

Regularly indulge in brain teasers, crosswords, concentration card games and puzzles. This type of activity stimulates the brain function and actually creates new neural pathways which expand the brain capacity. It's good news to know that doing fun things can actually contribute to maximizing the mind! Have fun, relax and don't take yourself so seriously. Life is supposed to be FUN!

Our quest for success is for one thing and one thing only…. happiness! We think that we will be HAPPY if we have more money, more freedom, a bigger house, a fancier car, luxurious vacations, fame, or whatever it is that you desire to have…..

…..we all want one thing… to be happy.

So, BE HAPPY! It's a choice. You'll understand this as you improve your mind, and watch as your life improves.

Consciousness Equates with Naturalness - The Little Prince Series

Posted: 12 Feb 2012 09:00 AM PST

Article by David Robert Ord

Showing his drawing of the boa constrictor digesting an elephant whole to adults, the little boy of six asked if the picture frightened them.

Their response was to ask why anyone would be frightened by a drawing of a hat.

The grownups couldn't understand the little boy's picture of the boa constrictor because they were all victims of the boa constrictor.

The adults in the little boy's life were living the constricted, compromised, mediocre kind of existence that's symbolized by everyone wearing a hat in public.

That's the problem with unconscious behavior. We do things that are utterly unenlightened, and yet we have no real sense we are acting in ways that are contrary to our authentic self.

Unconscious living-conformed, constricted living-is contrary to the natural flow of our being. Yet because we got squeezed into it at a very young age-the little boy in the story is only six years old-it's all we know.

Jesus said a strange thing to a group of adults who were trying to keep the children out of his way. He said they should allow the children to flock around him because "of such is the kingdom of heaven."

Children in their uncontrived naturalness show us what it's like to participate in divine consciousness.

Society asks us to alter ourselves in all kinds of ways to fit in with its needs. Most forms of spirituality also ask us to alter ourselves, mimicking the conformity and constriction symbolized by the boa constrictor.

Could it be that so much of what we think of as being on a spiritual journey is actually just a copy of the way society molds us into someone inauthentic?

Jesus certainly thought so. We know this because he said that unless adults "convert and become like a little child," they won't experience the kingdom of God.

How interesting that the little boy of six in Antoine de Saint-Exupery's story of The Little Prince could see that adults were blind-unconscious when it comes to what really matters in life.

Again ! and agai n in this story we'll see that adults, who are always trying to control their children and make them conform, are the ones who have betrayed their inherently divine essence. They are in the grip of the boa constrictor.

It's the children who "get it," because they are just natural. They are real, authentic, just themselves-until society strangles them in its boa constrictor grip.

Tomorrow I'll tell you how the boa constrictor affected me personally. It might remind you of someone you know.

*Editor's Note: This ongoing series on spirituality through the eyes of Antoine de Saint-Exupery's story of The Little Prince continues tomorrow and daily. It is a commentary on the Namaste audio book Lessons in Loving-A Journey into the Heart.

Dogen's odd brand of Zen

Posted: 12 Feb 2012 08:00 AM PST

I think Charles Prebish does a great job in summarizing Dogen's particular brand of Soto Zen.

"Present-day Japanese Sôtô Zen is traced to the efforts of Dôgen, who unable to satisfy his spiritual yearnings at home, journeyed to China in search of the truth.  His method, called zazen (sitting Zen), was taught as a method accessible to everyone, regardless of social rank, sex, or occupation, for all one needs to do is sit in the cross-legged full lotus position and empty the mind of discursive thought.  The technique is aided by breath control, counting of breaths, etc.  In shikantaza, the perfection of this technique, one just sits, unaided by any other device.  Dôgen believed that all things are Buddhas just as they are, and to perform any religious act as a means of becoming a Buddha was a denial of this truth.  Therefore we must just sit, in the faith that we are already Buddhas, and that this sitting is, in fact, an outward expression of our true Buddha nature.  We must learn to do zazen with no thought of attaining anything, for the moment a selfish thoughts arises, our true Buddha nature becomes obscured.  For Dôgen, desireless, purposeless sitting and faith in our intrinsic Buddhahood are the keys to realizing our true being in everyday life" (Buddhism, p. 232).

The above is especially instructive for the beginner or even the advanced practitioner who may want to take another look at Soto Zen.

It is easy to get sucked up into Dogen's brand of Zen if one hasn't read very many of the Buddha's discourses (Sutta/Sutra) sticking, instead, to a Soto Zen interpretation of Buddhism.

From studying the Buddha's discourses we learn things like, the Buddha never taught zazen or shikantaza.  Nor did he teach that all sentient beings are samyaksambuddhas, i.e., fully perfected Buddhas.  Such a belief, in fact, is contradicted in the Mahayana Mahaparinirvana Sutra.  This Sutra never misses the opportunity to remind us that while sentient beings have the Buddha nature, which is like cream, they still have to perfect it, that is, turn it into butter.  This is what the Buddha-to-be, Siddhartha, did when he was still a Bodhisattva.

True meditation is about turning our cream into butter; not learning to believe that cream is already butter.  Where Soto Zen misses the boat is not realizing the difference between potential and actual.  It is like a man who buys a tract of land next to gold producing property.  First of all, he may not know what real gold even looks like much less the proper equipment to buy to obtain gold.  Still, he believes that he is quite wealthy.

Blue Lotus Temple buys former Unitarian church

Posted: 12 Feb 2012 06:00 AM PST

Chelsea McDougall, Northwest Herald, Il.: Monk Bhante Sujatha's face drops when he's in concentrated meditation. He sits cross legged on the floor on a firm pillow. He's wrapped in a loose robe. His feet are shoeless. A Buddha statue in a similar pose sits directly behind him.

His muscles relax and it's as if all the day's problems have melted away.

The Blue Lotus Temple recently bought the former Unitarian Universalist Congregation near downtown Woodstock and Sujatha's life just got a little more hectic.

The temple bought the building at 221 Dean St. for $ 125,000, and now is adjusting to mortgage payments and a slew of …

Eight ways to live a peaceful and happy life: Buddhist's way

Posted: 12 Feb 2012 05:00 AM PST

Article by Jim Somchai

Although the source of this article is from one of the core teachings in Buddhism, I think this can be useful to all people who live in this planet. Everybody who looks for the happier life can ponder the theory to see if they can be applied to his life. One can do it without affecting his religion or belief. The theory is originally called righteous eight ways to enlightenment. The methods include:

1. Right philosophy

We are affected by what we know. The right knowledge will lead us to the right direction of our life. Learn to use the principles that help you to be closer to your objectives and ultimate goal. The continuous learning is very important no matter how old you are. People can not be happy without studying how to be happy. Compare your goals with your knowledge and ask yourself in what area you need to learn more. Go to talk to the people that can guide you to the right direction. Take a study course on what you lack knowledge of. Read the books written in the area that can help you to step up. Make sure that you acquire the right philosophy before you move toward your goals.

2. Right attitude

We need to feel right on everything that happens to our life. We need to be able to distinguish the right and wrong and realize that those happen for a reason. There is cause and effect. If we need to get good result, we need to begin with the right cause. We need to know how to put meaning into each activity we perform. Also, practice to be cheerful in every moment we live no matter what the situation comes out. What comes out is what we deserve.

3. Right deed

Refrain from doing anything that can cause trouble to others or yourself. Choose to conduct in the right manner as if others are yourself or your love ones. Behave like what you want to be behaved with. We will not steal, kill or perform sexual misconduct. This norm is the same for every religion and society. Keep away from these actions will give you peace in mind. You will not be ashamed of your being! .

4. Right speaking

Choose to speak nicely to people. Avoid profanity as much as you can. Deny talking about what you do not know or are not certain about since it may cause confusion and sometime damage to others. This leads to gossiping. Do not lie on anything in any situation. Do not make joke or kidding if you do not have to. Actually, kidding is sometime fun but it sometime considered nonsense or useless.

5. Right occupation

Make your choice of occupation that you love to do. That career must not cause trouble to others. Choose legal profession is the first step. Avoid killing in your occupation or doing any activity that may lead to killing. Do not get involved in intoxicate products. Try to honestly serve others as much as you can.

6. Right attempt

Know what you are aiming for and pay full attempt to achieve it. Do not give up on what you set up to do. Put your heart onto every activity you do. Do the best you can. 7. Right consciousnessBe present. Focus on what you are doing at that moment is fundamental in mind exercise. Make sure that every second or minute you are with your self. Do not let your mind wander around when you do something.

8. Right meditation

Meditation will help you concentrate much better. This will bring you wisdoms and finally enlightenment. Meditation also links your conscious mind to subconscious mind. Meditation in a right way will promote your mind power and can help you succeed in what you aim for.

The eight ways can be the standard that a person uses to lead life into a peaceful body and mind. It can be practiced no matter what religion you are. It can also be ways to make yourself happier than before.

Knowing You Are A Spiritual Being Helps Manifest Heart's Desire

Posted: 12 Feb 2012 03:00 AM PST

Article by Christy DeArment Martin & Judy Lynn Koons

This is the Full Moon Reading for August 24, 2010.Have You been hearing stories about the future and the year 2012. Are You feeling fear around these stories or any part of your future? Now is a great time to create a plan and fulfill the details of that plan.

Somewhat like an insurance policy. So that You can put the plan to action and then away and focus on creating the story that best serves You instead of adding energy to any fear.

There is so much available right now, like we could puck things right out of the air easily with just being in alignment with ourselves and what we really would like to be manifest in our lives.

Since spirit is in all things it is better than okay to want everything You desire.

Inquire into your beliefs about how things work so that You can tap into what is possible. What You believe creates the environment around You. Synchronistic events will come from an integrated mind heart functioning.

As You do what it takes to bring yourself to a place of serenity and peace about the future, notice the others around You that You can share your story with. The more You share the stories of hope and beauty with others the more powerful the story becomes and You are then using the strength of community.

There will be enough individuals looking for the answers from with in that the tipping point is not far off. When enough of us bring our awareness to the information we have access to from the places of the unseen then the confidence in and the value of this way of understanding will increase exponentially.

New levels of awareness over the past months are bringing in a new balance between body and spirit. The celebration of creation can come from the awareness of the unlimited possibility that comes from knowing You are a spiritual being.

There is much confusion and limitation when You see yourself as only a human and the mind can be a crazy making place if You do not find a way to allow spirit to be part of your life as well.

!

You a re not limited to just your thoughts. You were born a master and the memory of that is starting to flood in during this transitional time.

Bring your awareness to how good it feels to keep everything going each day. Look around You and notice how much You do in a day and keep doing what is in front of You You will notice the mastery that You have already attained.

Much like an orchestra with all the parts creating an amazing whole. This feels much better than focusing on everything You have not done or feel You have to do.

There are many people happy with the way things have always been done and You may not be one of them. The realm of possibility is always available to You and the ideas You are having now are beneficial and needed now.

Go with the beginnings and inspirations You are having and allow the ideas You have to be shared. Take one step at a time and also allow yourself to take a minute and look at what You have already attained in your life.

When You are really busy in your thinking mind and all the ways of thoughts, then sometimes You end up too busy to notice the opportunities easily available to You.

It is a time for connecting with friends and loved ones and creating things together. Taking it to a new level of trust in working together and creating together. Remember there is always enough and competition is not necessary in order for there to be more than enough for You.

Do You recognize that You are more than just human? That really the recognition of being a spiritual being using a human vehicle to experience life is where we are at.

Have You taken time to understand that being grounded in spirit is how life flows and brings You the magic. With grace and love we can fulfill our dreams and bring our desires into the physical reality.

Can You know that You will always have time to offer the best of yourself if You do not start today?

At all different times in our lives the ration of mind and heart use has shifted. This new vibr! ation as ks us to use more heart energy than we have been, so the ratio is shifting yet again. Maintain the value in using the mind and at the same time add a little more heart centeredness to the recipe and the outcome is sweeter than ever.

Emotionally- By being discipled about your thoughts You will notice how directly related your emotions are to what You think. Just being present to an emotion can allow You to follow it back to the thoughts that started the feelings. Gives You choices about how You would like to respond to life.

Mentally- Really focus on paying attention to details. Especially the details that bring You to your sense of peace and joy.

Physically-Can You sit with yourself and notice spirit in around You. Soften and allow all the sensations, sounds, visuals, sounds and knowings to just enter your consciousness.

Spiritually- Listen to and follow along to the tree meditation and use it to get grounded in spirit.

In Heart Centered Awareness,

3 Stress Management Tips You Need To Know

Posted: 12 Feb 2012 02:00 AM PST

Article by Hunter Frederick

If you have stress in your life, it's important to find some useful stress management techniques to help you get it under control. If you have stress in your life, you should address it, as otherwise it will only get worse and, as research shows, it can actually be life threatening. The techniques that follow have been helpful to many people for stress management, so they are definitely worth trying. The first technique we will be discussing here is massage therapy. While massage may only seem like a means for relaxing muscles it is also a great way to reduce tension, anxiety and stress. There are a lot of studies that prove massage is a great way to reduce stress when done regularly. There are many different types of massage, so you should try several kinds and find the one that you prefer. It's relatively easy to find qualified massage therapists. The art of massage allows endorphins in the brain to be released in areas that cause pleasure which of course can brighten the outlook of even the most depressed personality and reduce stress too. Don't forget to breath, it's essential for healthy living as well as healthy stress reduction. This is an easy technique for stress management, simple deep breathing exercises are a simple technique you can use now. Shallow breathing deprives your body of oxygen, and this creates a feeling of lack and being out of control. There are audio meditation programs that can teach you to breathe better. Your life will be energized and you will remain positive with the reduced amount of stress caused by deep breathing.Make time for the things you love. If your regular routine doesn't include "me" time you will likely continue on a stressful path. One factor that contributes to most people's stress is the amount of time spent thinking about all of the unpleasantries of life. We all need fun activities to do for no reason. If you have discovered a hobby that brings you joy, be sure to find time a few times a week to participate in them. The degree of activity doesn't ma! tter as long as it brings you joy and relaxation. When you take time for something you enjoy you will notice that your stress fades into the background as you begin to focus on more positive aspects of what you are doing. The above tips are meant to help you out but remember that there are also other effective methods for stress management. Dealing with stress begins with identifying what is causing it. In many cases you can't control or change your circumstances but you can always find a better way to deal with what is happening around you.

Buddhist Meditation: Mindfulness

Posted: 12 Feb 2012 12:00 AM PST

Article by Joe Taloe

Buddhism Meditation: Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a type of a meditation and a habit.

In mindful meditation we pay attention to anything and everything. You learn to notice the kinds of different thoughts, desires... etc that roll around in your head. You notice how you react to different things. For example, you could be mindful while driving your car. As you drive, you pass by a sign, and because you are paying attention to your own mind, you notice that each time you pass by that specific sign, you feel nostalgic, angry, or happy. You may realize that the sign actually reminds you of something. This is being mindful.

If you remain mindful as in the example above throughout your daily activities, mindfulness will eventually become a habit.

Okay fine. So how will I feel better if I am mindful?

It's pretty simple actually. The more aware you become of how things affect you, the more power you have to change them. Let me give you a personal example. One day I was driving while trying to remain mindful. I started noticing that I stare down other drivers. I realized that I was doing it because of my "must be macho and competitive!" influence. But the thing is that staring down other drivers was rather stressful. I felt tense, and aggressive. So, I started practicing NOT looking at other drivers. This way, I was more relaxed while in the car. Now, let me continue this example. So, that day I noticed one stressor in my daily grind. Now imagine that I found 200 other stressors over time, and make adjustments to relieve them in the same way that I relieved the driving stressor. Don't you think that these things would add up? After some time, and after identifying pointless stressors throughout my day, I feel better. Overall, I feel more relaxed, and so can you.

Stay mindful!

Using the Subconscious Mind For Healing

Posted: 11 Feb 2012 11:00 PM PST

Article by Sandy MacGregor

There is now scientific proof that we have the potential to use our mind to heal ourselves! Studies of the mind/body connection and of the power of the body's intention to heal itself are revolutionizing approaches to healing. There is no Separation between Mind and Body. Biochemists, physiologists and psychologists have discovered that our bodies express themselves as either thoughts or molecules. For instance, the feeling of fear can be described as an abstract feeling or a tangible molecule such as adrenaline. Without the feeling there is no hormone and without the hormone there is no feeling. In the same way there can be no pain without the nerve signals to transmit the pain and no relief of pain without endorphins which block the pain reception. This is a major discovery - every thought produces a chemical in the body. Suggestion has a real Power Another scientific discovery was the placebo effect or dummy drug - a wonderful use of the subconscious. Studies have shown that by giving patients a sugar pill and telling them it is a strong pain killer, 30% of them will experience relief as though it were the real pain killer. What has been concluded from this is that although the sugar pill itself is meaningless, it forms a suggestion which is converted into the body's intention to heal itself. The body is capable of producing any biochemical response once the mind gives the body the appropriate suggestion. The idea is to focus directly on the body's intention using the subconscious and skip the sugar pill. With the focusing of intention through attention you can convert the body's automatic processes into conscious ones, and reprogram them through simple mind/body exercises. Our past intentions may have created obsolete or inappropriate programs that either seem to control us or are no longer serving us in a purposeful way.

Psycho-neuro-immunology

A specific self-improvement technique called psycho-neuro-immunology has been proved by medical scientists. It is the ability to! focus t he mind in the meditation state then using guided imagery and visualization there is an increase in the T4 cell count which is the fighting cell in the immune system. This is the deliberate use of the subconscious mind! You can practice four important skills by using the Peaceful Place Healing CD (downloadable) and you will learn how to use your subconscious mind :} 1. The ability to relax and release the stress caused by illness. 2. The ability to consciously develop your power of intention for healing.3. The ability to develop focused concentration.4. The ability to develop mind/body exercises to promote healing.

Buddhist Monks and Monasteries in Thailand Part 2

Buddhist
by Akuppa

Article by Arjanyai

Today, although the spread of the government system of education has brought modern schools to replace the traditional schools, and though fewer monks teach in schools of the new system, most of the public and government schools are still housed in monastery buildings or located in the compounds of monasteries. The abbot is still the spiritual leader of the community in whom the people put full trust and to whom they give hearty cooperation in all activities, both religious and secular. For the people it is still an honour and a means of gaining merit to do such a thing as feed the monks or give them other necessities of life. Usually each morning the monks still leave the monastery for the morning alms-round. In the monastery, there is also a special hall where the people can make merit by offering their gifts of food, by listening to regular sermons and by performing other meritorious actions.

The condition of the monastery always reflects the economy of the community. Monasteries in the provinces are therefore often small, while those located in great cities, especially in Bangkok, are quite large. In larger monasteries there are many structures for the use of monks and sacred buildings containing Buddha statues, images and other objects of worship. An average or typical monastery contains at least two types of buildings: living quarters for monks, or dormitories, and an Uposatha hall in which the monks perform ecclesiastical acts and ceremonies. In addition to these, there may be many other buildings such as a Viharn or repository of Buddha images, some types of stupas called Chedi or Prang, a bell tower or belfry, a square building for the Buddha's footprint, a scriptural library, a museum, a preaching and merit-making hall, a crematorium and buildings for religious studies and those for a public school.

There are usually a number of novices living with the monks in every monastery. In some monasteries there may also be a number of white-robed female devotees living in a separate! section of the monastery. The numbers of monks and novices are not the same in all monasteries. In larger monasteries the numbers range from 100 to 600, but in smaller ones, especially in the far provinces, there are very few, usually fewer than ten. There may even be only one monk or one monk and one novice. On the average, there are about 8 monks and 4 novices.in a monastery. In the whole country, the total number of monks is 233,978 and that of novices is 105,670. Most of the younger monks are students. Elder monks work as teachers on religious and some secular subjects, as meditation-masters and practitioners, as preachers, and as ecclesiastical administrators, and sometimes as counselors of the villagers, especially on spiritual matters.

Ninety-nine percent of the novices are students under the guidance and guardianship of the monks.Besides the monks and novices there are also a large number of temple boys or monastery boys. These boys, including many young men, live under guardianship of the monks, serving as their attendants, and use the monasteries as dormitories in which to live while attending public schools, secondary schools and universities.

There are two kinds of monasteries: the royal and the community or private ones. Royal monasteries are mostly large, having very beautiful and ornamental sacred buildings and many other artistic works. Among them are Wat Po (the Monastery of the Reclining Buddha), Wat Bencha (the Marble Monastery or, popularly called, the Marble Temple), Wat Arun (the Monastery of Dawn), Wat Srakes (the Monastery of the Golden Mount), Wat Phra Prathom Chedi (the Monastery of the First Stupa). Wat Phra Kaeo (the Chapel of the Emerald Buddha or the Chapel Royal) is also a royal Wat, but it cannot be called a monastery in the full sense of the term as it is the only Wat that has no living quarters for monks. The royal monasteries now number 186, while the number of community monasteries amounts to 28,010. By denomination, all monasteries fall under two groups, namely,! Mahanik aya monasteries, numbering26,694, and Dhammayut monasteries, numbering 1,502.

Of whatever types or in whatever part of the country the monks and monasteries may be, they play important roles in the spiritual and cultural life of Thai society and have played these roles throughout her long history of more than 700 years.

Are you able to minimize stress and anxiety and improve your overall health levels with a piano keyboard

Posted: 11 Feb 2012 07:00 PM PST

Article by Simon Tyler

Worry really can affect your health

Throughout the present day world, stress and anxiety is very much an integral facet of our day to day lives. We at this time have got a great deal of strain from the time we get up in the morning, through the day time and we can appear to be to be bogged down so easily; so there is more than enough in our lives to become stressed about. A build up of a particular tremendous deal of stress could affect your day-to-day life, your well-being as well as your relationships and as a result stress needs to be taken seriously.

Countless illnesses originate from stress and practically all tend to be exacerbated by it. Over and over it's often shown that when someone limits their mental stress and anxiety they're able to actually feel considerably better over the years.

Stress Reduction: A lot easier said than done

I'm aware controlling stress is a lot easier said than done and in many cases mearly considering minimising stress and anxiety can be difficult in itself. All you will need for you to start off is to try to take sixty minutes daily, every day or two or every few weeks to get rid of your stress levels, and when you get better at this you can make it a frequent exercise.

Where do you begin to help get rid off stress and anxiety?

There are a number of books on emotional stress and time management but right before you set about reading them all, we will reveal to you some common-sense ideas to start with.

What exactly do you really enjoy doing? Exactly how do you truly feel when you have spent available free time just the way you really want to? Exactly what do you reckon you'd probably like and would love to have a go?

The first thing you can do to eliminate your body's stress is to do something that you really enjoy and helps you to feel calm. Do you love studying, going for a walk, doing work in your garden, caring for your pets or playing a musical instrument. Have you ever before thought about learning ho! w to pla y piano or perhaps some sort of keyboard? Have you ever planned to learn how to play keyboard, these days it is a lot easier than previously.

Modern day keyboards help make teaching yourself to play the piano a lot easier, because they can be self teaching and therefore a great way to enjoy yourself. Today's keyboards help save space by being light-weight and portable therefore you don't require a large amount of space to store one. They are able to be played considerably quieter in comparison to an ordinary piano and, if you have neighbours close by, you can also start using headphones.

A modern keyboard now has the technologies to not only teach you the right way to play but can incorporate lessons too. Integrated software can help you to play different varieties of music as well as recommend different styles and sounds to you.

The real key to limiting stress is to have precious time by yourself and routinely do the things you love doing.

Things You Should Know About Relaxation | The Importance Of Relaxation

Relaxation has so many wonderful benefits, from, stress reduction, feeling of well being, improved healing, dealing with chronic pain, lowered blood pressure, visualisation, feeling whole and connected, taking time out from a crazy world! But how do you do it? So many people have asked. I have taught relaxation and visualisation strategies to many patients and clients. Do you think that you are a bad person when you relax instead of working? Is it one of your beliefs that taking time off is unnecessary? Are you sure that doing nothing is an attitude of laziness? Have you ever felt burned out because you overworked yourself? Have you ever had stress symptoms that made it impossible for you to continue working on your projects? Have you ever become sick since you didn't take enough care of yourself? If I were to find a perfect relaxation techniques I would preferred to make a fortune sharing with others. In this, there are a lot of great ideas, and these ideas published in different places but it seems no one got it gold. I know that the people around me seem to be more and more stressed as time goes along. More people tried many relaxation techniques but they only find nothing work for them. There are many different things you can try, but you may have to search for a while before you find something that works for you. For each phase of productivity, we need a phase of relaxation that allows us to recharge our batteries and to generate new energy for upcoming projects. We ...

My Personal Journey Into The World of Meditation

Posted: 11 Feb 2012 06:00 PM PST

Article by Dr. Robert Puff, Ph.D.

I began meditating in my late teens after I was exposed to the research of Herbert Benson, who wrote the book The Relaxation Response. It was a wonderful study into how people meditate and the benefits of meditation. It was basic but very helpful. It got me interested in both practicing and studying meditation.

While I found meditation relaxing after doing it a short while, it wasn't always easy to do, and I wasn't always motivated to do it. I meditated often, but not regularly. I did it because I understood the medical benefits. I knew it was good for me, good for my heart. Dr. Benson talks a lot about the medical benefits of meditation.

Over the years, as I pursued my degrees in psychology, I studied different forms of meditation, tried different practices, and really began to enjoy the effects. I meditated periodically. I would sometimes take breaks from it but I'd always come back. I explored different forms, different traditions, and developed my interest and love of meditation.

I think the tipping point was when someone came to me for help and advice. This person, whom I respected, was intensely spiritual, and shared with me the opinion that meditation was one of the foundational tools of personal growth. "If you really want to grow, meditation is really the key both spiritually and psychologically," this client said. So I started to explore meditation from that perspective and found the remark to be true. Because I was passionate about growth, I decided to truly dive into meditation. Although I had spent decades academically, professionally, and in my private endeavors studying personal development, I had not deeply studied the spiritual, meditative methods of growth.

At that point in my life, I came to realize that studying psychology had taken me a long way in my own personal development, but that it could only take me so far. Meditation could take me to my goal of being a happy, whole person on a consistent basis. So I had actually learned from someone I w! as couns eling that meditation was the main way to grow in all aspects of my life.

Although I had all these degrees and training which helped me develop excellent skills in dealing with my stresses, anxieties, and emotional issues, I still hadn't achieved the goal of reaching my full potential as a whole, healthy human being. I needed to seriously apply meditation to actually reach this goal in my life. In the East, they call it "enlightenment"; in the West, some writers call it "awakening," and psychologists refer to it as "self-actualization."

What consistent, regular meditation started to do for me was help me get in touch - on a consistent, regular basis - with who I am, why I'm here, and my oneness with everything around me. Psychology and the medical world had taught me good tools for functional living, but hadn't taught me how to live. Meditation has taught me how to live fully, how to live in the present, and how to savor every moment.

There was one final lesson I needed to learn. Although I had become quite good at meditating and was very relaxed and peaceful on the meditative mat, when I left the mat my mind continued to chatter. I learned I didn't have to leave that meditative state when I left the mat. I could go through my day, continuing in my meditative state of being at peace, being at one. While the mind chatter is still there, I've learned how to acknowledge it, witness it, and not be distracted by it. I've learned how to remain in the now, how to be present with what is.

One of the changes that has come along through my meditating is that I require less sleep. I generally go on three to six hours a day now. Like most people, I used to require six to eight hours of sleep to function. Also, during my meditations sometimes I have very "mystical" experiences where it's incredibly magical and I am one with the universe. I've learned not to attach myself to these experiences; I don't expect them, but sometimes they come and are intense and enjoyable beyond words. I've beco! me one w ith myself and at peace.

If you want to be the most fully functional human being you can be, meditation is the way to achieve this. If growth and spirituality are important to you, meditation is the tool to getting there. We all can experience the joys, wonders, and incredible peace that truly surpasses all understanding, with regular meditation.

World is a happier place than 2007 — global poll

Posted: 11 Feb 2012 06:00 PM PST

Despite economic woes, wars, conflicts and natural disasters the world is a happier place today than it was four years ago and Indonesians, Indians and Mexicans seem to be the most contented people on the planet.

More than three-quarters of people around the globe who were questioned in an international poll said they were happy with their lives and nearly a quarter described themselves as very happy.

"The world is a happier place today and we can actually measure it because we have been tracking it," said John Wright, senior vice president of Ipsos Global, which has surveyed the happiness of more than 18,000 people in 24 countries since 2007.

But he added that expectations of why people are happy should be carefully weighed.

"It is not just about the economy and their well being. It is about a whole series of other factors that make them who they are today."

Brazil and Turkey rounded out the top five happiest nations, while Hungary, South Korea, Russia, Spain and Italy had the fewest number of happy people.

Perhaps proving that money can't buy happiness, residents of some of the world biggest economic powers, including the United States, Canada and Britain, fell in the middle of the happiness scale.

"There is a pattern that suggests that there are many other factors beyond the economy that make people happy, so it does provide one element but it is not the whole story," said Wright.

"Sometimes the greatest happiness is a cooked meal or a roof over your head," he explained. "Relationships remain the No. 1 reason around the world where people say they have invested happiness and maybe in those cultures family has a much greater degree of impact."

Regionally Latin America had the highest number of happy people, followed by North America, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East and Africa. Only 15 percent of Europeans said they were very happy.

On a more personal note married couples tended to be happier than singles but m! en seeme d to be as content as women. Education and age also had an impact with more people under 35 saying they are very happy than 25-49 year olds. Higher education also equated with higher happiness. — Reuters
