How to Calibrate the Levels of Consciousness

Posted: 14 May 2012 12:00 PM PDT

Article by Sam Ness

Finding the Truth is now possible, using the Levels of Consciousness (LOC) calibrations techniques. This means, that for every man and woman the journey to God is shortened, with the obstacles of the falsehoods seriously reduced. No matter what religion one follows, LOC calibrations deliver an objective result, no matter what religion one follows.

Although the energy field of consciousness is infinite in dimension, we are predominantly interested in the specific levels, correlating with human consciousness: from 1 to 1000, with the critical level at 200 - Truth. The most prominent researcher of consciousness, Dr David R Hawkins constructed "Map of the Scale of Consciousness" depicting in detail various energy fields associated with human emotions and attitudes. Because everything in the universe emits minute energy that remains in the field of consciousness permanently, we now can retrieve "records" from the past, of every person or being whoever lived; their deeds, feelings, thoughts, in the past and in the present.

The kinesiological response to a given stimulus is a base to calibrating LOC; the response comes in one of two forms: "yes" or "no". There are various methods available, depending on which muscles are used, or whether the test is conducted by a pair (tester and subject), or by a solitary tester. The response is very brief and instant, and is independent of personally hold beliefs. The tester must phrase the question being asked, in the form of a statement. Such a statement can only be answered "yes" or "not yes" (meaning "no") by the kinesiological response. The tester finishes spelling out his question by saying: "Resist!" when a force is applied to the subject's extended arm. If the subject's arm stays strong, it means "yes". Otherwise, the answer is "no". The question must be in the form of a statement.

There are important limitations to calibrating levels of consciousness. For yet unknown reasons, approx. 10% of the population is unable to conduct LOC calibratio! ns, with the use of kinesiological techniques. It is important that the subject and the tester, each calibrate above 200 - the level of integrity, and the intention of the test must be integrous. Permission must be sought before the test, by stating: "I am permitted to ask about what I am holding in mind." Or, "This calibration that I am about to do, serves the highest good.Again, for yet unknown reasons, married couples are often unable to work together as the tester and the subject - tester and subject. Future cannot be tested. Calibrating the level of consciousness allows the spiritual seeker, and an "ordinary" person for that matter, to find truth and avoid wasting our precious lifetime on pursuing that which is false. For the first time in the history of manking, using this God-given tool enables us to find the Truth - the shortest way to discovering our own Self.

We come from the Sun and return to the Sun

Psychologist Christopher Holmes discussed the physics and metaphysics of higher consciousness and the mysteries of the heart. People have a divine spark within the heart, a kind of "zero point" center that corresponds to ideas in new science, he said. Humans work on the same physics that are applied to the universe, he explained, and consciousness is not just in the head but all through the body, and may be related to blood flow. We exist in interpenetrating dimensions, and according to the esoteric teachings of luminaries such as HP Blavatsky, there are seven dimensions that include the physical, astral, and mental realms. The inner self comes down out of the higher dimensions-- one such higher realm is the sun, which is inhabited in the form of "fire bodies," he detailed, adding that a "paradise level" of spiritual existence might reside in Earth's upper atmosphere. Holmes was critical of film projects such as The Secret, because of its focus on thoughts-creating-reality. He stressed that the heart or feeling aspect gives form to attributes. He also commented that the movie placed too much emphasis on material rather than mystical goals. Dr. Christopher Holmes is a clinical and forensic psychologist, who has worked as a professor at York University in Toronto and also worked for several years in the Ontario Correctional system. He now dedicates himself full time to Zero Point, an Institute for Mystical and Spiritual Science. Christopher has investigated the enigmas of ...

Spirituality VS Religion

Posted: 14 May 2012 11:00 AM PDT

Article by Helene Rothschild

Do you think that spirituality and religion are synonymous? I used to think that they were, but as I learned more, I discovered there are major differences. I found out that you can be spiritual and religious, spiritual and not religious, or religious and not spiritual. That may seem confusing. I will explain.

To being with, there are only two basic emotions, love and fear. The loved based emotions include compassion, forgiveness, caring, kindness, and unconditional love, which is true love because there are no conditions. Whereas fear based emotions include control, guilt, anger, abuse, and passive and active aggression.

It is also helpful to understand that we have four basic parts, mental, emotional, physical and spiritual. Our human personalities are composed of our mental, emotional, and physical parts. They make us unique. Our spiritual part is our higher-self, our all-good, all-knowing, unconditional loving part. It is also known as our God-self. We can connect with our spiritual truths through our intuition.

Therefore, spirituality comes from our spiritual part. When we commit to being honest, kind, caring, loving and accepting of others and ourselves, we are acting from our spiritual part. We have integrity, create win-win solutions, and do what we can to make a positive difference, see everyone as equals and deserving of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

For example, I know of a policeman who stopped a truck driver for drunken driving. He knew that if he arrested the middle aged-man, he would lose his job and not be able to support his family. Instead, he drove him home and talked to him about his problem. He also counseled his family. I call him a "spiritual cop." He cared enough to help the man and not just punish him.

Spiritual people support everyone having equal rights. They act considerate and responsible. They believe in the power of positive thinking and take responsibility for their lives. Spirituality means living from love rather than f! ear.

Where does God or a higher power come into all of this? If they do believe in a divine being that looks like a light or person, it will be a loving one that supports, protects, and provides for them. They feel supported to be their unique selves. Spiritual people accept that God is all-loving, and all-powerful, and wants them to be happy, healthy, abundant and successful. They often speak directly to God, instead of having a person relay God's messages to them. Or, they are spiritual and religious because they have loving spiritual leaders and books that support them living from love and acceptance.

Spiritual people do not have any dogma or rules except Karma, (you reap what you sow) what you do to others will be done back to you. For example, if you are cruel to other people, you will probably experience people being mean back. Your kindness will be rewarded with a return of kindness.

On the other hand, religion has a dogma and a human being interpreting their God's messages. As we all know, human beings have fears and they can alter the information, consciously or unconsciously. Religious books were translated by man throughout the ages. The information can be loving or fear based. It is my belief that if it is loving and supportive, then it is spiritual. However, if it is preaching guilt, control, superiority, judgment of others who are different, and believing only their truth is right, it is not spiritual. If it is teaching that you are sinful and here to suffer and struggle, it is not spiritual.

I do not believe that God tries to control us. God honors our free will, and wants us to be happy as any healthy parent would. "Joy and laughter are signs of God's presence." I believe that God gave us the proverb, "Do unto others as you want others to do unto you." Honor and accept everyone, and allow them to live their lives as they choose. Spiritual people live and let live. They see everyone as equals and support freedom and liberty for all. They live from love!

Silver Lining - Tune Up Tip of the Week - Terri Cole

Are you the person who can detect the silver lining in a situation? Do you easily see doors of possibility where others see walls? Or are you the one who immediately sees obstacles and the first to jump to, "everything is wrong", "it's never going to work out", or "I'm never going to get what I want"? I want you to stop for one second, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and think about your stance in life. If you jump to the negative, think about the reasons why. Many times past painful experiences play a part in a negative reaction. If you were crushed by not landing the "dream" job, you may believe you will never find a job you love; if an ex-boyfriend cheated on you, all potential romantic partners might inspire feelings of distrust. I want to challenge you to be a silver lining detective. Honor what you have learned in all of your life's situations. From there, with mindfulness, you will be less likely to repeat the negative situation out of automated fear and more likely to create meaning, purpose, and joy in your amazing life.

Young Adults with Autism At Disadvantage After High School

Posted: 14 May 2012 07:00 AM PDT

Young adults with autism face more barriers in the years right after high school than graduates who have other kinds of learning disorders, a new study finds.

The researchers reviewed a national database to see how recent high school graduates with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) fared in terms of finding employment or going on to postsecondary education.

The researchers found that, on average, 35 percent of the graduates with autism did not participate in further education or join the work force, a higher rate than any other group.

By contrast, the rate of young adults with a speech or language impairment who didn't have a job and weren't in school was 7 percent. Among students with learning disabilities the rate was 3 percent, and among students with severe mental disabilities it was 26 percent.

"They were just not involved with anything. There was a much higher rate than young people with other kinds of disabilities," said study researcher Paul Shattuck, an assistant professor of social work at Washington University in St. Louis.

However, the rates among graduates with an ASD grew lower with the years. While 59 percent were neither working or continuing their education during the first year after their graduation, that figure dropped to 11 percent in years four through seven.

"There is a 'Things get a little better' story as time goes by," Shattuck told MyHealthNewsDaily.

The next step, said Shattuck, is to determine why so many young adults with autism are left out of these opportunities.

A lack of research

While there has been increased awareness of autism and more emphasis on early intervention for children with the condition, that hasn't translated to adults with autism.

"What's important to realize is that the majority of a typical lifespan is spent in adulthood," said Shattuck. The vast majority of autism research to date has focused on very young children. "We know very little about how life unfolds, and what life looks like for adults with autism."

Many with autism find that help for them diminishes once they pass school age.

"It is easier to work with younger children with ASD than young adults and adults. Their needs become more complex, services are limited and the service systems are often uncoordinated," said Amy Matthews, director of the START Project at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich. The project trains school staff members who work with students with autism.

"Some folks may need help in terms of supports for employment or job coaching, others may need help in order to live independently," said Lisa Goring, vice president of family services for Autism Speaks, which was one of the funders of the study.

"Before they graduate from school, there are education entitlements," Goring said. "There are some adult services, but they are not entitlements. And so there are waiting lists in order to get those services."

A worsening problem

With the rising number of autism diagnoses, those backlogs will only get worse, Goring said.

Going forward, Shattuck said, researchers could draw on the new study as a baseline to see whether interventions are succeeding in improving students' lives.

"We can really get at some questions that haven't been poked at very much in autism research," he said.

One of the findings showed the impact of financial resources on employment and education.

Young adults in the study received a grade (from 1 to 4) for their autism severity. Among those with the least severe condition, 3 percent who were from families with incomes above $ 75,000 hadn't entered college or found employment. That number was 13 percent for students from families with less than $ 25,000 in income.

Meanwhile, for young adults with the most severe autism, 45 percent of those from high-income families were not in school or employed, whereas among those from poorer families, that number was 79 percent.

"Coming from a low-income level is a significant strike against you, no matter what your severity with regards to the autism spectrum," said Shattuck.

In the future, he said, interventions will have to account for that. Smaller studies done with one group of children may not take into account differing results arising from socioeconomic status.

The study appears online today (May 14) in the journal Pediatrics.

Pass it on:After high school, many with autism have difficulty finding places in higher education or jobs, as well as fewer services to help them along.

Tap Into the Power of Your Subconscious Mind

Posted: 14 May 2012 06:00 AM PDT

Article by Gregory Frost

The power of the subconscious mind has been discussed at length in popular culture, but, it is like the McDonalds revolution in a sense. We know that it is great, we know its massive effect but after a while, it is just a cheeseburger to the man on the street. When someone mentions subconscious mind, images of Professor Xavier or Mind Hunters pilot episodes would come into the picture.

We would be seduced with the romance of the whole situation, the idea of the fantastic and soon, that would fade away as it always does, - into the background of some new Hollywood blockbuster poster we would paste at the back of the door. The power of the mind is something that we underestimate at all times of the day - because the mind can overcome almost anything within reason that we throw at it. It is said to be the most powerful tool in our body.

The statements on some mind improvement sites saying that the mind is a juggernaut that can allow you to fling cars into the horizon and crush buildings with a single thought is just salacious hype and talk. While those are not the actual topics that are placed on their ads, but this is the idea that they are giving. Now, within reason and limits of the physical body, the mind can do wonderful things, and the real muscle in the mind is the subconscious or inner mind. What it does is that it exerts its control over every aspect of the human body, and this includes even the physiological aspect as well.

Once you understand that the subconscious mind is actually the driver behind the vehicle of your human vessel and all its functions, and then you will know that you need to be able to have all the control you can. One way to do this is through the power of subconscious conditioning using subliminal techniques to enter your conscious mind and target the defensible subconscious. Most of the time, the critical logic processes and the train of thought, and rational faculties that the conscious mind is a defense against the subconscious, just as the driver ! is withi n the protection of his carriage or vehicle.

It protects and shields away dangerous traumatic emotions and associations that the subconscious is more than capable of doing while under duress or exposed to the right mix of stimulants. In the end of the day, you need to have mastery over your driver. The subconscious. There are ways to do this, and surprisingly enough, you can find some of them on the World Wide Web actually. Subliminal audio CD's are just some of the great leaps of technology, giving you the ability to release subconscious and subliminal therapy into the mind itself and make yourself a much better person. The cost is merely a fraction of your time and a few bucks, but the benefits are entirely tangible. Never underestimate the power of the subconscious to give you the edge in life that you need.

How to Remove Mental Stress With A Pair of Headphones and 30 minutes (and $15)

Posted: 14 May 2012 05:00 AM PDT

Article by Bob Shareo

First off, if you're not open-minded, this concept will not work for you. If you've ever wondered, ever thought that maybe -- just maybe, there's some other way to go about your life, then stick around. I guarantee you will find this article to be of interest.

Our brains spend most of their day siphoning out the utterly useless background noise we experience on a daily basis. Car alarms, jack hammers, lawn mowers, the screaming baby on the bus, bosses who bark orders, coworkers who love waiting until you're about to make your point to interrupt you, frowning faces on the street, sitting in an office chair. Ever catch yourself grumbling about how uncomfortable your chair is, and then catch yourself doing it again the next day? That grumbling is your body's way of negatively-embracing your emotions. Rather than just let it all out and move on to a rational solution, you just forget about the nuisance, or so you think. These grumblings stick around, build up, little by little, and when its time to lie down and get to sleep, what thoughts do you find floating around in your mind? That's right, its those same exact thoughts. I've found a solution to this problem.

The concept takes some time. It takes about half an hour a day, at least three days a week, and that's for starters. If you get heavily into this as I have done, you might find yourself spending a full hour a day, 7 days a week deep in brain entrainment. Either way, you experience the benefits of relaxing your mind -- it truly is a mind massage, and much like a full-body massage, it starts out easy and then you start to feel the big knots get worked out.

It all begins with you sitting comfortably in a chair or lying in bed. You slip on a pair of headphones and wonder what'll happen next. The audio begins playing, very lightly at first, just the sound of rain falling or trees rustling. You realize how bored you are and think about quitting, but you remember that you are open-minded, so you stick around awhile longer. You catc! h yourse lf breathing, and notice how calm your breathing has become. Your focus moves to some other part of your body, then to your feet, then to all the other parts, and finally culminates in a sense of peaceful awareness that you are indeed in the room you started out in. Ten minutes in, you start to notice a slight buzzing sound -- this is your brain starting to pick up on the binaural technology. The buzz changes pitch and frequency, starts to sound like a group of bees or a baseball whizzing past your head, and slowly fades into the background as your brain entrains onto the pattern. Out of nowhere, you start to notice your heartbeat, then your awareness truly opens up, and the program begins.

Depending on the program you choose, you will be taken on a different journey. Some programs focus on healing, on stress-reduction, on auto-immune enhancement. Other programs exist in the fringe, things like out-of-body awareness, which if you do get a chance, is truly an incredible experience.

Try out some of the free stuff if you like, I guarantee that you can find some on the 'net and that it will be of OK quality. Now, If you want targeted programs that are specially developed to bring about specific states of consciousness, you seriously want to check out a company I've come across. They have fairly-priced programs and offer full money-back guarantees. You can find a link to the binaural meditation technology here. Honestly, I've been using binaural brainwave technology for over a year now, and my life has never been as exciting as it is now. Give it a try, or not. Your choice, but I hope you choose to check it out. Be sure to have a good pair of headphones.

Overcome Your Anxiety With Yoga

Posted: 14 May 2012 03:00 AM PDT

Article by Kevin Pederson

Anxiety and anxiety related illnesses have been on the rise. Between the stresses of home, work, school, children, war and the economy anyone would feel pressure. When enough anxiety builds, it can cause a lack of mental alertness, mental illness, physical illness and a whole host of other issues. The core issue however starts out as anxiety. It is therefore necessary to find ways to relieve anxiety before it can build. On way is through the practice of Yoga. Yoga poses, breathing techniques and the benefits of yoga can help relieve anxiety and promote a positive and calm outlook.

In recent years, yoga therapy and anxiety has been a topic of conversations for many people both professionals and those who are looking for ways to relieve anxiety. Some professionals have even created specific yoga for anxiety programs. These yoga for anxiety programs use specific yoga poses for anxiety, that is to say they contain a grouping of poses, which have the yoga benefits of anxiety relief. These various programs use yoga equipment for many of them some do not.

Some of the positions and poses that research shows to work with yoga and anxiety are the standing prayer breath, Seated Yoga Mudra, and Breathing Meditation. These three poses are the basics that will promote the relief of anxiety. The best time to learn these poses is when you are already relaxed. Breathing needs to be steady, slow and deep, this will help promote the feeling of relaxation and help your body to relax. The standing prayer breath pose, in order to perform this pose stand with feet hip width apart and bring your hands together in a prayer position. As you raise your hands, inhale relaxing your shoulders into your back. Then exhale as you do, move your hands from the prayer position and sweep them down to your sides then back up to the original prayer hand position. Repeat somewhere between three and ten times depending on how much you want to do and how much time you have. Then reverse the breathing order and make each bre! ath long er while your movements become slower.

The seated yoga Mudra pose consists of kneeling on the floor, keeping your spine straight, then sit back onto your heels. This can be slightly uncomfortable, if you find it so, place a pillow on your calves. You arms need to behind your back, you can either clasp them or hold something if clasping is not something easy for you, squeeze your shoulders together and lower towards your back. The next step is to exhale and bend forward as you exhale from your hips, keeping your back straight until your forehead touches the floor, hold for three to ten steady breaths.

The breathing meditation, this works great for relieving anxiety and creating a peaceful moment. Sit in a chair or on the floor, place your hands on your knees, close your eyes and breathe through your nose.

London Life Coach - Mind Mapping Software

Posted: 14 May 2012 02:00 AM PDT

Article by Linda Gold

Mind Mapping Software

Mind mapping software is designed to aid in the somewhat complicated process of mindmapping. A mind map is a diagram used to represent ideas, words, tasks, or other items that are linked to and arranged around a central key word, idea or concept. Mind maps are used to structure, classify, visualize and generate ideas, and serve as an aid in problem solving, decision making, organization, study, and writing. As you can imagine, creating such a diagram by hand can be overwhelming to the novice mind mapper.

The cost of high quality mind mapping software starts at about 0, and many mind mapping programs have a free trial option. Two of the most highly rated and popular mind mapping software programs are iMindMap and NovaMind. If you want to get started right away, one of these two will likely meet your needs.

Buzan's iMindMap is designed by Tony Buzan who many consider the father of mind mapping. An obvious benefit of choosing iMindMap is that you are linked in to Buzan's techniques and innovations. For those unfamiliar with the process, there is flash movie explaining the concept. There are also a number of flash video tutorials explaining how to use the software. There are three editions of iMindMap: Elements, Professional and Ultimate. The software is compatible with Microsoft Office and OpenOffice.

NovaMind is another excellent example of quality mind mapping software. While you don't get the Tony Buzan stamp of approval, NovaMind does have some unique features not found in other programs. For instance, NovaMind is one of the only mind mapping software programs with a free layout mode where you can put branches anywhere you like. It also has rainbow coloring, an integrated branch suggestion system, and a special module for screenwriters. NovaMind also comes in three editions: Express, Pro, and Platinum.

The iMindMap and NovaMind mind mapping software both work on the Mac and Windows operating systems. You will find both systems workable and easy! to use. The price structure is similar, so your choice will boil down to which features are more important to you as a user.

Before you purchase any mind mapping software, make sure that you first identify your needs. You should also consider your budget, and whether you can upgrade for a discount within the same family of programs. Once you've identified your needs you can start comparing the different mind mapping systems. Many programs come with a free trial which will greatly assist you in making an informed decision.

Most people who invest the time necessary to learn the mind mapping process become lifetime converts. Trying to accomplish the process on paper can be extremely frustrating and time-consuming. Good mind mapping software pays for itself very quickly in terms of saved time and frustration.

Stress Relief Through Martial Arts

Article by Bevan Joyce

Formerly known as Siam to foreigners who first came to this region as early as the 12th Century, the country's name was changed to literally mean Land of the Free. Everywhere in the country's 800-year history, this nation can boast the distinction of being the only country in Southeast Asia never colonized. Siam was changed to Thailand with the advent of a democratic government in 1939. People inhabiting Thailand today share rich ethnic diversity of mainly Thai, Mon, Khmer, Laotian, Chinese, Malay, Persian and Indian stocks, with the consequence that there is no typically Thai physiognomy or physique. There are small statuary, round face, dark-skinned and light-skinned Thais. About 80% of all Thais are connected in some way with agriculture, which in varying degrees, and is influenced by the religious ceremonies and festivals, making Thailand to help, how does a distinctive country. Thais are indigenous peoples and had many invaders of their country in its history to defend. As such, they have developed their own brand of martial arts. Muay Thai is the devastating "science of eight limbs" developed over thousands of years. The exact date of foundation of this martial art is not known, but it is generally believed that about 2000 years old. Muay Thai can be used as Pahuyuth (multi-faceted fighting style) called back 100 years, but Muay Thai itself is only part of the whole Thai fighting system that weapons and groundwork which covers often referred to as Ling-Lom. Has the most effective fighting techniques from the cultural art form of the Siamese warriors developed the past. It has also become an international sport with a proud heritage.

Muay Thai has always had been practiced in imperial contests. In the early times, this would in any location, such as jungle clearings, farms, a village square or in an area can range from flat ground. There were no rounds or time keeper, and no banned moves, the winner will remain the boxer who can. Boxer would be tied up with rope in her forearms and fis! ts to fi ght their bound with strips of raw cotton.

Born in 1929, switching to the type of gloves in International Boxing, was the competitions was standardized and contained in a ring. Today, Muay Thai has five contests, fought for three minute rounds with two minutes rest between rounds, a referee and three judges awarding points for effective strikes.

Muay Thai is now one of the most popular martial arts techniques practiced in the world. Just like any other form of martial art, Muay Thai will enable the practitioner to develop many skills and qualities. Although most people would understand the physical fitness as obvious benefit of studying Muay Thai to list only a few people really, all the physical benefits. It will be seen, increased strength and flexibility, stronger bones and joints, increases energy and stamina, better coordination and balance, weight loss and muscle gain. It is also in the form of increased coordination, flexibility, strength, endurance and stress reduction benefits through constant practice of the martial arts.

Besides the physical skills, there are many significant spiritual and mental benefits. Some of the more subtle but equally important benefit, are concentration, confidence, courage, confidence, respect, etiquette, self - discipline and humility.

Although martial arts like Muay Thai, at first glance seems to be a series of physical abilities are in fact the real goal is to provide state of mind. It is the mind to learn to act quickly, often reading subtle signs and responding with a complex set of moves has. The mental benefits of martial arts are probably more important than the physical.

Practising Buddhism Brings About Many Benefits

Posted: 13 May 2012 11:00 PM PDT

Article by Mike Selvon

Millions of people follow Buddhist studies but there are still many people in the Western culture that are unfamiliar with Buddhism. It is a religion that dates back thousands of years and has helped many people overcome their suffering and has taught countless others how to help end the suffering of their fellow man. This religion can seem difficult to understand when you first begin but if you take the time to learn the basic tenants, then you can find your own happiness and sense of self-fulfillment that many miss in life.

There are two main schools of Buddhism. There is the Mahayana and the Theravada. Each of these facets of Buddhist teachings is different but they have many of the same similarities. Perhaps the biggest difference is in how bodhi or enlightenment is reached and what is required to aspire to the level of the Dali Lama.

The Buddhist religion and philosophy is based on the teachings of Gautama Buddha. There are four main beliefs that the Mahayana and Theravada believe in. These are: the Middle Way, Dependent Origination, the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path. The journey to Buddhahood is the highest attainment that anyone following the religion Buddhism can attain.

Many people associate the Buddhist religion with meditation practice, a Buddha statue and Buddhist practice. These are all true for this belief. Meditation is a huge part of attaining enlightenment. It requires the person to enter into a Zen like state in which they search for the meanings of life.

Many people who practice this religion will have a Buddha statue as a reminder of the trials and tribulations that Gautama Buddha went through on his journey to enlightenment. No one is asking you to fast and remain still for forty-nine days, as the Buddha did, but it does require some discipline.

One of the main tenants of this philosophy and religion is that you should not cause harm to others. The religion and spirituality Buddhism teaches is that the way to spiritual enlighte! nment is through letting transgressions go.

Yes, there will be pain and suffering in life but each person should hold nothing against others for their wrongdoings. To hold transgressions and hatred close to the heart only stops the person from growing spiritually.

Buddhism is experiencing an awakening in the West as more people are turning to aspects of this philosophy and applying them to their lives. They are finding that the Buddhist practice of meditation is actually a huge stress reliever.

There are even classes, such as in Yoga, which offer some of the Buddhists practices into a way that Westerners can utilize in their lives. If you are suffering from stress and a feeling of emptiness, then perhaps you should give the Buddhist philosophy a try.

Watkin's spiritual list to the rescue

Posted: 13 May 2012 11:00 PM PDT

Spiritual wisdom is supposed to be direct knowledge of spirit or absolute Mind, itself.  This is something only a sage knows or has realized.  Everybody else is drifting along more or less deluded who have other important things to do besides sitting in a cave focused on seeing the clear light Mind.  They have a job, their family and children to worry about.  All this is important, but only from a relative point of view.

So somebody has to minister to these lost people.  But who can do it?  Watkin's Spiritual 100 List is a list of the who's who in the day-to-day world of spiritually oriented consumers who are starting to sense that life is not a bouquet of freshly cut roses.

I am sure more names could have been added to extend the list considerably.  One hundred names are not exhaustive.  Still, this list of names gives us a fairly good idea what spiritual consumers are looking for.

However, much of the spiritual medicine offered by many members of the list is not fundamentally spiritual.  Much of the medicine, I would argue, falls under the category of hedonism.  Such can be thought of as joyful avoidance which is bent upon avoiding the heaviness and gloom of life so as to take renewed delight in the senses.  This includes learning to be in the here and the now, or the same, the present moment.  It also means to be free of Freud's ego which is always trying to dethrone the pleasure-principle.  Joyful avoidance includes learning to be free of restrictions and boundaries which thus allows us to search for new meanings, interpretations, and purposes which avoid authentic spirituality.

For those of us who still have a spiritual conscience left, Watkin's Spiritual 100 List is entertaining; which can be easily satirized.

Reducing Stress With Mindfulness Meditation

Posted: 13 May 2012 08:00 PM PDT

Article by Anna Wilde

What is Mindfulness Meditation?

In the same way that a fast from food can provide rest and healing for the body, meditation is a fast for the mind. Mindfulness is a non-religious technique practiced by people from many different faiths. It provides valuable space in which withdraw from often demanding external interaction. Mindfulness Meditation is a perfect stress reduction technique.

Mindfulness meditation is a mind training technique, a practical and effective method of coming more into the present moment, and becoming more aware of our unhelpful habitual patterns. Then we have the power to choose more caring ways of behaving towards others and ourselves. Like quality food is a gift for your body, meditation is a gift to your mind.Meditation is too hard!

Some people say, I've tried to meditate, but I wasn't very good at it... my mind was full of busy thoughts, and I couldn't calm down at all. This is natural and a usual condition of the human mind. Like anything worth practicing, an instrument, a language, a new skill, meditation is a process. The most helpful attitude is patience.

Why practise meditation?

1) Mindfulness meditation is an effective technique for simultaneously improving concentration and increasing relaxation.

2) With time and practice it enables you to be more aware of the way in which you relate to yourself and the world.

3) You give yourself time to return to balance, by refocusing the attention from the thinking analysing mind, towards the centering physical experience of breathing.

4) With regular meditation the benefits naturally seep into our daily lives. There is growing ease, spaciousness and understanding.

5) Mindfulness meditation is a practical method for creating more 'space' and ease, in the body and mind, by bringing the awareness to rest on the breath.

6) The physical anchor of the breathing gives us a place to return to when the mind becomes distracted and wanders to 'busy' thoughts of ! the past or future, emotions and physical sensations. What happens when we practise?

As we become aware of the mental chatter, we are given a choice; the choice of whether to follow the less beneficial mental rollercoasters, or to let it go. This is a constant process, however one that becomes easier with time, as we begin to recognize the more persistent visitors, see them with a little more space around them, and let them go on the out-breath. As my teacher said, open the front and back doors, so they can come and go, but don't invite them in for tea. With regular meditation, we have the opportunity to experience thoughts and feelings less personally, and to observe them more as patterns. This is a very empowering process.

Sometimes the experiences of the mind and sensations in the body can feel very powerful, for example anger, sadness, dullness, confusion. With all these experiences it is vital that we give ourselves the space to just sit with it and observe all the 'textures' of the feeling, with the help of our anchor point, the breath, without following the old 'storyline', the cracked record.

Awareness is the first and essential step to freedom from unwanted stress.

Is Spiritual Healing for Real?

Posted: 13 May 2012 07:00 PM PDT

Article by Stephen Lau

Spiritual healing is rejuvenation of the body and mind through the intelligent or immaterial part of a human being - spirituality.

Many people think of healing only in terms of the physical. A broken bone is only a "physical" illness that requires six to twelve seeks for healing the fractured bone. But human illness may often involve more than just the physical level: it may involve the emotions, the mind, and even the soul. Accordingly, spiritual healing may play a role in the recovery. Indeed, spiritual healing has more to do with the mind or the soul than just the physical body. Spiritual healing is recovery from a disease or disorder of a more complex nature. All illness and even death result from cumulative stress of the physical, emotional, and mental aspects of an individual. Cumulative stress fosters negative emotions and behavior with devastating and long-lasting effects on the overall health and wellness of an individual. Fortunately, spirituality may help an individual overcome this negativity, and thereby instrumental in relieving the symptoms of an illness. For example, a patient suffering from cancer, which is a traumatic experience, may find solace through spirituality during the cancer treatment, such as chemotherapy or surgery.

Spirituality affects attitudes, beliefs, and emotions of a patient. Any negative thinking and feeling, such as anger, anxiety, fear and guilt, can evoke a stress reaction more pronounced than the impact of alcohol, caffeine, or nicotine on one's health. Negativity can adversely affect the prognosis of a disease.

The antidotes to negative emotions are their exact opposites, such as hope to despair, and joy to sadness. But these antidotes are available only through the regular practice of spirituality - which is essentially cumulative spiritual virtues. The human spirit is the ultimate regulator of the human brain and mind. Therefore, the key to spiritual healing lies in the attitude, that is, one's innate belief in the ultimate goodness of! the uni verse.

Everything in the universe exists in some form of energy, manifesting in light and/or sound. Hence, there is photo therapy with various colors, which influence melatonin and serotonin (brain chemicals responsible for mental and physical wellness). Music therapy is another form of therapy for emotional and physical ailments. Acupuncture, with its 4,000 years of history, is energetic healing practice in China, in which cosmic energy or internal life energy known as "qi" is unblocked for healing purposes. These natural healing models all focus on balance and harmony within self, as well as with others, and they are manifestations of spiritual virtues, or the potency of spirituality.

To attain spirituality for spiritual healing, follow the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, who abhorred the following: politics without principles; wealth without work; pleasure without conscience; knowledge without character; science without humanity; commerce without morality; and worship without sacrifice. The teachings of Mahatma Gandhi epitomize spiritual virtues.

Spiritual virtues should be the foundation of the responsibilities of an individual towards self as well as others. This is what and how one must live consciously and subconsciously at all time so as to attain spiritual healing for ultimate wellness.

The Animated Avadhuta - Read by Mooji

Salutations to consciousness from consciousness. Here is an Unmoving travel through dimensions of perception. The elements of language are segments of the mind; can they be the structure of the world? On the fractal fresco of phenomena, the variety of all the symbols of oneness sprout and come to life. Its backbone is the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet, which are spread like seeds of meaning among the infinite canvas of random facts. Living beings are linked by secret strands of DNA. This Drawing of Babel, that some call the Universe, is called different names, like God itself: the Psychotorah, The ABC of the Absolute, Noah's Archetype... Its title means: the song of the naked one, the sage that got rid of ideas and identification and sings out of bliss. Mitt Romney, you're wrong: this isn't a Christian nation

Posted: 13 May 2012 07:00 PM PDT

There are lots of reasons for people in the United States to vote for President Obama rather than Mitt Romney in November. Romney's sucking up to evangelical Christians is just one reason -- but an important one.

In a recent speech at a hotbed of Christian'ist fundamentalism, Liberty University, Romney told the assembled believers in an imaginary God the untruths they wanted to hear.

In the same week that President Obama galvanized his base by endorsing same-sex marriage, Mr. Romney's message was that evangelicals could count on him to operate as president under "a common worldview," including his position that marriage should be between only a man and a woman.

...Repeatedly invoking God and citing an array of Christian leaders and thinkers, from Pope John Paul II to the novelist C. S. Lewis, Mr. Romney spoke of the centrality of family and service and the tradition from America's beginnings of trusting "in God, not man."

Only problem, and it's a big one, is that this country never has been a Christian nation. Our founding fathers (and mothers, I assume) were appropriately skeptical of the sort of dogmatism that Romney mistakenly considers to be part of this nation's early history.

Check out the quotes in "The 12 Best Reasons Why The U.S. Is Not Now, and Never Should Be, a Christian Nation." Here's a couple of my favorites:

3) "But how has it happened that millions of fables, tales, legends, have been blended with both Jewish and Christian revelation that have made them the most bloody religion that ever existed."–John Adams, letter to F.A. Van der Kamp, Dec. 27, 1816

6) "History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance, of which their political as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purpose." –Thomas Jefferson to Baron von Humboldt, 1813

7) "Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise." –James Madison, letter to William Bradford, April 1, 1774

10) "During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What has been its fruits? More or less, in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy; ignorance and servility in the laity; in both, superstition, bigotry and persecution." –James MadisonA Memorial and Remonstrance

Sam Harris' great little book, "Letter to a Christian Nation," offers up a blunt modern perspective about why Romney is so wrong.

There is, in fact, no worldview more reprehensible in its arrogance than that of a religious believer: the creator of the universe takes an interest in me, approves of me, loves me, and will reward me after death; my current beliefs, drawn from scripture, will remain the best statement of the truth until the end of the world; everyone who disagrees with me will spend eternity in hell.

…An average Christian, in an average church, listening to an average Sunday sermon has achieved a level of arrogance simply unimaginable in scientific discourse—and there have been some extraordinarily arrogant scientists.

Sam Harris: Can Science Determine Human Values?

In this highly anticipated, explosive new book, the author of The End of Faith and Letter to a Christian Nation calls for an end to religion's monopoly on morality and human values. In The Moral Landscape: How Science Can Determine Human Values, Sam Harris tears down the wall between scientific facts and human values to dismantle the most common justification for religious faith -- that a moral system cannot be based on science. The End of Faith ignited a worldwide debate about the validity of religion. In its aftermath, Harris discovered that most people, from secular scientists to religious fundamentalists, agree on one point: Science has nothing to say on the subject of human values. Even among religious fundamentalists, the defense one most often hears for belief in God is not that there is compelling evidence that God exists, but that faith in Him provides the only guidance for living a good life. Controversies about human values are controversies about which science has officially had no opinion. Until now. Morality, Harris argues, is actually an undeveloped branch of neuroscience, and answers to questions of human value can be visualized on a "moral landscape" -- a space of real and potential outcomes whose peaks and valleys correspond to human states of greater or lesser wellbeing. Different ways of thinking and behaving -- different cultural practices, ethical codes, modes of government, etc. -- translate into movements across this landscape. Such changes can be ...

Yoga Is Best Way To Relax Our Mind

Posted: 13 May 2012 06:00 PM PDT

Article by Daveopton

Yoga is an ancient time exercise. In which people can sit on a mat and do some activates like rotate there body in different shapes, and bend there back bone, and many more activates they can perform these activities are known as 'asans' or 'postures'. Yoga helps us to keep our mind fresh and active. Yoga is the only exercise which we can do in 15 to 20 minutes. If we do yoga daily our body should be always fit and fine and we are free from illness or anything else. You can do yoga anytime in a day it should be in a day or night, but you have to remember you can do yoga before eating a food, or after a 4 to 5 hours gap between workout and lunch time. After five thousand years of written documentation, Yoga may well be the oldest self-improvement system that ever existed. We don't know what Yoga knowledge may have been lost before man started to record it. In the time period beyond 5,000 years a fair amount of knowledge would have been passed on by word of mouth, and as a result, some of it would be missing. There are many different types of Yoga, but all of them contribute to mankind's self-improvement. So, mankind has been a work in progress for thousands of years and has organized systems to constantly improve. There are different types of yoga. Like Anjanaya asana, Ardha Chandre asana, Baddha kona asana, Bala asana, Gomukha asana, Dhanur asana, Garuda asana, Hala asana, Hasta-pada asana, Matsya asana, Shava asana, Padam asana, Nataraja asana, Tada asana, and many more. We can do all this asana in day to day life. You will remember that all the yoga asana's are not same, every asana have its own quality. Like some is for reduce weight, or to improve eye sites, and many more. For working people who did not have time in his daily busy life, they can join an online yoga coerces. In these coerces we can learn everything about yoga like different 'postures' or 'asana's'. Now a day's 300 - 400 hours yoga is more popular in America and other countries, in this you can learn about yoga practically and th! eoretica lly. And these types of coerces are good for working peoples. If you want to choose a online coerce you should remember that minimum 300 hours yoga coerce is good for you if you choose 200 hours, it should not be sufficient for you to learn about yoga.If you want to join any institute for yoga training. You should remember some points that the institute is near to your house or office, and the infrastructure of institute is good, and the institute is authorised by government, and the teacher's of the institute is certified. And at last you should confirm that the institute which you choose will provide certifications after completing the course from that institute.

Managing Holiday Anger and Stress

Posted: 13 May 2012 05:00 PM PDT

Article by Ana Holub

It's holiday time again, and some of us are ecstatic....and some of us are not. Holidays are usually a time when memories and emotions reappear from childhood, and they aren't always the easiest ones to negotiate. Even if we are not consciously aware of it, longings and expectations about what "family" is, or what "Christmas" or "New Year" are supposed to be, can feel heavy and affect our emotional lives.

Many of us experience a lot of stress around this time of year - triggered by lack of sunlight during the dark winter solstice, or our mounting credit card bills, or from family dynamics that often play out during "festive" gatherings. Fortunately, there is help, and it is easy. All it takes is using something we already have - our breath.

As a peace educator, I have a lot of respect for using breath as a tool to center ourselves. Conscious breathing will help you feel more grounded and calm.

If you notice that you are feeling anxious in any way, take some time...a few moments...to become aware of your breath. Notice yourself, your body, your thoughts. Probably, you are holding your breath or not breathing very deeply. So stop your busyness - and give yourself the gift of a deep breath. Or two. Or five. Fill your belly and your lungs. Allow your entire torso to fill with good oxygen on the inhale and empty fully on the exhale.

One really important point about tuning in to your breath is to be especially aware of the difference between your inhale and your exhale. They are two separate parts of one breath, and you can use them for different needs.

For relaxation and stress reduction, use the exhale as your point of focus. Try breathing out about twice as long as you breathe in. So if you inhale for two counts, exhale for four. Next breath, experiment with inhaling for three counts and exhaling for six. Remember to exhale very slowly and evenly. Take as long as you want to get to the end of your breath.

While you are relaxing into your breath, begin letting go o! f any te nsion that has built up in your head, neck, jaw and shoulders. Consciously release the grip in your mind and body, thoughts and muscles and allow the tension to drop down towards the ground. Inhale some good, fresh oxygen and positivity as a replacement for the tension you've just released.

During your exhale, you will be lowering your heart rate and releasing tension from your muscles. Your inhale brings nutrients to your body, newness to your mind and enlivens your blood. Your head will clear, and you'll be able to handle your holiday gathering much, much better.

Hope this helps. When I teach the good men in San Quentin Prison, they often remark upon how much this simple relaxing breath technique helps them. I figure if it works for them, in an intense place like San Quentin, it can work for you and me.

Happy Holidays!
