Tibetan Tantric Overtone Chant

Nestor Kornblum sings "Deep Voice" overtone chant with monks of the Gaden Shartse -Tawon Kangtsen Monastery on their 2007 tour of Spain. This form of chanting produces a "one voice chord" of 3 or more sounds from one single voice. It is called Tantric because it balances the masculine and feminine aspects of one's energy system.

Buddhism in China

Buddhist

Article by sinnyliaoyan

Buddhism was introduced from India into China in 6th Century AD. One of the Han Emperors sent a mission to the west of China and brought back the scriptures, Indian monks and the images of Buddha. Since then Chinese translation was made available and the further exchange of scholars among China, India and other Asian countries brought about the rapid development of Buddhism in China. Buddhist monasteries and temples were built to promote the Buddhism and some of the Emperors were also the followers of Buddhism. Buddhism, just like Confucianism and Taoism, guides people to behave, to be honest and responsible. It promotes harmony and peaceful mind, sharing and compassion. Buddhists never force people into their belief. Buddhism emphasizes in "awakening of mind". Through learning, one will develop intellectual capacity to the fullest so as to understand, to love and be kind to other beings.

It was not until the late fifth and early sixth centuries AC that Buddhism of a Mahฤyฤna (see Mahฤyฤna Buddhism) sort was able to weave itself fully into the fabric of Chinese life. By then it had become a spiritual complement to secular Confucianism and had provided the idea of Enlightenment to Daoism. In time, the three schools of thought would be seen as a complementary unity. The maturity and great age of Buddhism in China was the Tang Dynasty when emperors spent their wealth to establish monasteries and sculptures in different Buddhist caves. But this age was not free of persecution, especially by Confucian oriented statesman that wanted to get rid of the foreign religion. Many people converted and entered a monastery to escape military service and tax paying.

The transition of the foreign religion into a Chinese one was made easy especially by the ideal of charity and compassion of Great Vehicle Buddhism. Both terms are quite similar to the Confucian idea of filial piety and the compassion of the ruler for his subjects. Other concepts of Buddhism are quite contrary to Confucianism (sufferi! ng - enj oying; celibacy - family; mendicant monks - productive farmers; monastic community - subordination under the state). Buddhism refers collectively to the various schools of Buddhism that have flourished in China since ancient times. These schools integrated the ideas of Confucianism, Taoism and other indigenous philosophical systems so that what was initially a foreign religion came to be a natural part of Chinese civilization albeit with its own unique character. Buddhism has played an enormous role in shaping the mindset of the Chinese people affecting as it has aesthetics, politics, literature, philosophy and medicine.

Buddhism does not believe in God. It believes in People. In Buddhist teaching, there is no aggressive promotion of Buddhism or strong rejection of other religions. All these make Buddhism fall into the same scope of Confucianism and Taoist. Its ability to co-exist with any other religions makes it being developed into one of the largest religions in China.

The first Buddhist parishes are found in China in the 1st century AD and focused mainly on the suppression of passions by means of meditation, charity and compassion. The monastery claiming to have been the first in China is the White Horse Monastery (Baimasi) near Luoyang. Many similarities with Taoism made Buddhism look like another sect of Huang-Lao-Taoism; both religions have no sacrificial ritus, believe both in immortality and operate with concentration, meditation and abstinence.

Buddhist practises to lead one into the ultimate happiness in life and even afterlife. Buddhism also promotes code of conduct in life. That is what they call Five Precepts of avoiding killing, stealing, indulging, lying and alcohol drinking. Buddhist teaching introduces the way and concepts of meditation, rebirth, intellectual development and comparisons. It leads to self-understanding, instead of blind believing.

In their world they believe that: "Giving up false speech he becomes a speaker of truth, reliable, trustworthy, depen! dable, h e does not deceive the world. Giving up malicious speech he does not repeat there what he has heard here nor does he repeat here what he has heard there in order to cause variance between people. He reconciles those who are divided and brings closer together those who are already friends. Harmony is his joy, harmony is his delight, harmony is his love; it is the motive of his speech. Giving up harsh speech his speech is blameless, pleasing to the ear, agreeable, going to the heart, urbane, like by most. He speaks words worth being treasured up, seasonable, reasonable, well defined and to the point."

The Buddhist concepts are accepted universally in China. Apart from the beliefs of Buddhist and the monasteries, there are four famous Buddhist Mountains in China: Putuo Mountain, Wutai Mountain, Emei Mountain, and Wutai Mountain.

Ancient Stress Reduction temple found in China’s Taklimakan desert

Posted: 08 May 2012 11:00 AM PDT

Xinhua: The ruins of a Stress Reduction temple dating back 1,500 years ago have been discovered in China's largest desert, offering valuable research material for historians studying Buddhism's spread from India to China.

The temple's main hall, with a rare structure based around three square-shaped corridors and a huge Buddha statue, has been uncovered after two months of hard work in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, Dr. Wu Xinhua, the leading archaeologist of the excavation project, said Monday.

"The hall is the largest of its kind found in the Taklimakan Desert since the first archaeologist came to work in the area in the 20th century," said Wu, also head of the Xinjiang archeological team of the Chinese Academy of Social Science.

The ruins are located in the south of the Taklimakan Desert, in the Tarim Basin, known as the Damago Oasis in the ancient kingdom of Khotan, a Stress Reduction civilization believed to date back to the 3rd century BC.

Temple halls with square-shaped corridors stemmed from early Stress Reduction architecture in India, and gradually disappeared after the Northern and Southern Dynasties (420AD-589AD), when Stress Reduction architecture in China began to pick up its own characteristics, according to Xiao Huaiyan, a member of the excavation team and a former researcher at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Judging from the layout of the ruins, and the artifacts uncovered at the site, Wu and his colleagues believe the temple dates back to the Southern and Northern Dynasties.

It is so far the best Stress Reduction site for scholars to study how the religion arrived in China from India, and its early development in the country, said Wu.

Judging from the size of the pedestal on which it would have rested, the missing Buddha statue should be at least three meters tall, reaching the size limits of the hall when its roof was intact, he estimates.

The innermost corridor extends six meters from both south to north and from east to west, the second corridor is 10 meters long and 10 meters wide, while the hall's wall surrounds an area of 256 square meters.

Still visible on corridor walls are mural paintings of items including the Buddha's feet, Stress Reductions and auspicious animals. They are painted in a Greco-Buddhist artistic style, which was seldom seen after the 6th century.

Ruins of several residential structures were found to the southwest of the main hall, along with some pottery kilns and ancient coins.

There is still a scripture hall, a stupa and residential houses for Stress Reductions to be uncovered, Wu added.

The southern end of the ancient Silk Road, a major historical trade route, went across the 337,000-square-km Taklimakan Desert, and a wide variety of cultural heritage items have been buried in what is now known as the "sea of death."

In 1901, British explorer Marc Aurel Stein trekked far out in the desert and into the ruins of Niya, an ancient Pompeii-like city with homes, Stress Reduction stupas, temples, pottery kilns, orchards, tombs, waterways and dams.

Since then, more than 10 Stress Reduction sites have been discovered by archaeologists from China and abroad in the Damago Oasis.

For Heart Attack Survivors, Living Near Roadways Linked with Death

Posted: 08 May 2012 10:00 AM PDT

CREDIT: Neighborhood photo via Shutterstock

For heart attack survivors, living close to a roadway may be hazardous for their health, a new study suggests.

The results show that heart attack survivors who lived about 300 feet (100 meters) from a major roadway at the time of their heart attack were 27 percent more likely to die over the next 10 years compared with those who lived at least 3,200 feet (1,000 m) from a roadway.

Those who lived between 650 to 3,200 feet (200 to 1,000 m) away from a roadway had a 13 percent higher risk of dying in 10 years.

Exposure to air pollution and traffic noise from the roadway may explain the link, said study researcher Dr. Murray Mittleman, a physician at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

Long-term exposure to air pollution is known to increase the risk of death from heart disease, and some studies have shown exposure to traffic noise increases blood pressure, the researchers said.

The study involved 3,547 people who were hospitalized for a heart attack at 64 medical centers in the United States between 1989 and 1996. Participants' average age at the beginning of the study was 62.

Over a 10-year follow-up period, 1,071 participants died: 63 percent of cardiovascular disease, 12 percent of cancer, 4 percent of respiratory failure and 0.4 percent in traffic accidents.

The closer patients lived to a major roadway, the more likely they were to die during the follow-up period. The results held even after the researchers accounted for factors that could affect a person's risk of death, including age, smoking status, proximity to a hospital and household income.

The researchers said the study was limited in that they don't know whether participants moved after their heart attack, or if new roadways were built closer to participants' homes, but either of these scenarios could affect the results.  For instance, a patient who moved closer to a roadway would have been misclassified in the study.

The American Heart Association suggests clinicians educate their patients on the risks posed by air pollution, and encourage patients with cardiovascular disease to avoid unnecessary exposure to traffic, the researchers said.

The study will be published in the May 8 issue of the journal Circulation.

Pass it on:  Heart attack survivors living close to a major roadway have an increased risk of death over a 10-year period compared to those living farther from major roadways.

How to Make One Change and Empower Your Mind to Make Money

Posted: 08 May 2012 09:00 AM PDT

Article by Tony Papajohn

Do you realize that you are one change away from a super-charged mind that spots opportunity, makes a plan, overcomes obstacles, and makes money?

That one change is a powerful metaphor. A metaphor says something is something else.

For example:

The world is your oyster.Your backyard is acres and acres of diamonds. The world is one big gold mine and you are the miner.

Let your mind form a picture of each metaphor. How do things change when you look out your window and see your personal oyster, acres and acres of diamonds, or one big gold mind?

The world looks and feels a lot more inviting, does it not? And this energizes your mind to go out and find your fortune.

A metaphor changes everything. It is the "Select All" button on the mind. (Did you notice the metaphor in the last sentence?)

This is because a metaphor changes your entire frame of reference, implies new possibilities for rich meaning, and sets a whole new tone. For example, suppose I say your "Money Mind is a muscle." By "Money Mind" I mean the sum total of all your thoughts, feelings, attitudes, and experiences about money.

So what does the metaphor about Money Mind and muscle suggest? It suggests you can exercise your ability to attract money.

Why? That is what you understand about a muscle.

If you go the gym, you build muscles. In like fashion, if you spend time at your chosen business opportunity, you build "muscles" in the form of confidence, experience, and expertise.

So the mind naturally explores a new path of connections opened by the metaphor "Money Mind is a muscle."

You can do this very easily with this question: If my "Money Mind is a muscle," then what does this mean for me?

Trust your mind and it will answer. Then follow the answers wherever they lead.

You may see yourself weightlifting with bags of money or building resolve and skill in the gym of your everyday business life. Or you may look for "vitamins" in the form of inspirational mater! ial.

Or you may see something else. Whatever it is, trust your mind to infuse the metaphor with new and profitable meaning.

Just as you can start an exercise program and get in shape, you can design a program to change your financial shape. This is perhaps the most important meaning of "Money Mind is a muscle."

So get your Money Mind in shape. You can jog to the bank with big checks.

Children find meditation a blissful experience

Posted: 08 May 2012 09:00 AM PDT

Matt Bowen: Silence dominates here.

It's noon in room two at St Paul's Catholic School and noise is everywhere else – the four walls are ablaze with colour, art and slogans; outside, the Ngaruawahia sun is laced with the din of schoolyard kids in play.

Inside though, not a sound – the children are meditating.

The class of 14 six-year-olds is sitting in a close circle on the carpet with teacher Judy Craven the centrepiece on a chair.

Her eyes are closed, too.

The kids sit cross-legged – hands rest either on knees with thumb and forefinger touching or in laps with fingers interlocked …

Natural Anxiety Remedies - Make Stress A Distant Memory

Posted: 08 May 2012 08:00 AM PDT

Article by Julian MacDowell

If you are keen to find natural remedies for anxiety, this article will offer you some useful advice to assist you in taking control of your stress. There are a range of simple things you can do to reduce stress in your life. Moderate exercise, better eating habits, and relaxation techniques can all offer wonderful stress reduction, and help you to eliminate the negative thoughts that plague us all.

Reducing Negative Thoughts

It's surprising how many people spend much of their time thinking negative thoughts. But the anxiety sufferer spends considerably more time locked in negative thinking than the person who leads a happy-go-lucky life. Take a few quite moments each day to really evaluate the thoughts you have. They may be about your own death, illness, self worth, relationships etc. Sometimes looking at it from the perspective of an outsider, or if you were offering advice to yourself, you would probably think that these feelings and thoughts were absurd, with no real grounding in truth or reality. But when you are thinking these things, it all seems too real. A reflective look can really help you to turn your thought processes around and see them for what they are.

There are two types of worry. The one where you have control over the situation. If you have control, then make the changes or decisions. So there really is nothing to worry about.

The second type is the type of worry about a situation you have no control over. when you are going to die, how it might happen, will your partner run off with someone else? Sure, healthy living and a communicative relationship will help prevent bad things happening, but most of these issues you have NO control over at all. So if you can't control it, why worry about it?

Combining some self evaluation with a healthy diet, free of processed food, and 30 mins of exercise each day will do wonders for your well-being and stress levels.

These simple steps can turn your world around and minimise your stress and anxiety. Give! them a go and change your life.

Guided Meditation In The News

Posted: 08 May 2012 07:00 AM PDT

Article by Kelly Kauffman

Many studies have been done on the effects of guided meditation and most of these studies have proven its effectiveness on calming a person's mind and body. Guided meditation is not a new exercise and has been around for many years but since the recent notice of stressful and time consuming jobs and lives, many people have turned to it to help relieve their stress and to instruct them on how to deal with straining situations. Through the use of guided meditation practices, people who participate in these meditative sessions are finding more calm and quiet moments in their lives, even when they are not meditating.

Guided meditation and private meditation were developed in the Buddhist community about 2,500 years ago and have been used ever since. The Dalai Lama takes this line of guided meditation so seriously that he decided to meet with Western neuroscientists to help them test the effectiveness of the guided meditation exercises. The Dalai Lama stands by meditation by referring to it as a way that human beings express their ability to avoid suffering and find their own personal happiness. The Dalai Lama met with these scientists in a number of sessions in which they interviewed him and presented their research on the subject of guided meditation. He offered his opinions on the subject from his Buddhist point of view but also engaged in the scientists' factual understanding of meditation and its effects. Although the Dalai Lama stands by his completely spiritual and meditative practices, he cooperated with the scientists and showed them that he understands the importance of science and research on the subject.

Guided meditation was shown to be effective at calming a person's inner thoughts and sometimes relieving ailments such as migraines. By attempting to achieve the three levels of guided mediation, many people have found their limit of difficulty and what they need to work on to make their meditative session more intense. The meditating person must first work to achieve an extern! al focus during a guided meditation session. This is the most basic type of meditation and the easiest form to achieve. In the external focus session, the person must concentrate on an object in the room while still paying close attention to his or her own body. The internal focus is a form of guided meditation that is found to be a little more challenging. In this form of meditation, the person must focus on occupying the mind with a mantra or another small but non-thinking task while concentrating solely on removing thoughts from the brain and relaxing the body. The unfocused form of guided meditation is the most challenging form and it is the form where the person meditating can go the deepest into the meditative state. In this state of meditation, the person focuses on nothing and keeps the mind completely silent.

People are finding the world of meditation is easy to become one with when they use the help of guided meditation. Many users can achieve their meditative goals and the meditative state of calm with guided meditation.

The Mind that is bodhi

Posted: 08 May 2012 07:00 AM PDT

Eventually beginners cannot fail to come across the phrase "the aspiration to achieve enlightenment" which is a not-so-good translation of bodhicitta or even bodhicittotpada

A beginner may read that bodhicitta is our altruistic mind which is fixed on attaining Enlightenment in order to save all sentient beings.  If they are practicing Soto Zen, they might learn Dogen Zenji said that bodhicitta occurs when we establish a spiritual connection with a Master (cp. SBGZ, Hotsu Mujรด Shin).  These kinds of definitions are not about real bodhicitta.  They seem to come from translating bodhicittotpadam as "to raise (utpada) the thought (citta) of enlightenment (bodhi)" which brings with it the sense of something that is wished for—which misses the point, entirely.

According to the Samdhinirmocana Sutra,  there are two kinds of bodhicitta.  There is ultimate bodhicitta and, for want of a better term, 'conventional' bodhicitta.  Ultimate bodhicitta refers to the Mind that is bodhi or awakened.  We can think of it as beginning Buddhahood just as we might consider a baby tiger to still be a tiger, although it is not fully grown.  Conventional bodhicitta, on the other hand, refers to the mind that aspires to awaken or have bodhi.  Ultimate bodhicitta is really saying, "By this I shall attain Buddhahood."  The conventional is saying, "I hope someday to achieve Buddhahood."

With ultimate bodhicitta one stands in the presence of the pure nature of Mind which is radiant or the same, clear light.  Most importantly, ultimate bodhicitta is not some subjective state.  Nor is it based on a ceremony administered at a Zen temple.

In bodhicitta, the luminosity of Mind is total and real.  Our thoughts, our sense organs, the world we perceive through them, resemble waves upon an ocean of clear light.  Nothing is apart from this Mind that is bodhi.  At this stage one is like baby Buddha not yet a mature Buddha.  After bodhicitta, the new Bodhisattva makes a commitment (pranidhana) to fully unfold and mature ultimate bodhicitta reaching full Buddhahood going through the stages (bhumi) of a Bodhisattva.

If all this sounds foreign to the ear of a beginner or—Buddha forbid—a veteran, they're either practicing in the Theravada tradition or they're in some kind of cult claiming to teach Buddhism.  There ain't no Mahayana or Vajrayana Buddhism without bodhicitta.

The Tinnitus Stress Connection

Posted: 08 May 2012 05:00 AM PDT

Article by Alton Greyson

In Part 1/3 of this guide to tinnitus stress-reduction, you'll learn why conquering stress should be your first priority when conquering tinnitus.

If you've been looking for natural tinnitus remedies online for any length of time, you've probably come across a lot of ideas that make you wonder if the next page you visit will be recommending a teaching from the Harry Potter school of magic - people are trying everything. (Breast milk comes to mind as I type those last words.)

And you know what - that spirit of trying something different and then trying something else with total conviction is really a necessary one, if you're going to overcome tinnitus.

However, it's the belief that you're just one never before shipped to the western world mystery ingredient of such-and-such tribe away from tinnitus freedom, a myth perpetuated by the people marketing such ingredients, that'll keep you trying everything and accomplishing nothing.

Considering the tinnitus solution-seeker booby-traps you've probably sidestepped just to make it to this page, with this article, I'm going to take you in the opposite direction that you've been taken in up until now. Suffice it to say that their are countless natural tinnitus remedies and some of them work to some extent for a small amount of reasons, for a large amount of people.

However, if you really want to start yourself on a road to lifelong tinnitus freedom, rather then just trying to keep it from steering you quite so far of course in your day-to-day life, I recommend you start thinking about finding and making several changes (additions and subtractions) in your life for more than several days.

I'm not going to go into what those natural tinnitus remedies, or changes are the way a proper recovery road map might, as this is just one article and that is based on numerous factors, and will require a grounding in the basic causes of your condition.

The most important thing I believe I can explain to you here, is the sing! le most important change you must make to start seeing improvements and ultimately see yourself succeed in remedying your tinnitus and the stronghold it has on your life.

#1 Most Important Change All Tinnitus Curing Cases are Founded on: Feeling Good!

It sounds simplistic and it might even sound a little inconsiderate, since I don't know exactly what you're going through but this recommendation is the simplest and most success-magnetizing way to turn your back on tinnitus, and start making strides towards your tinnitus freedom.

Tinnitus almost always hits when a person has sunk to a real low-point in their level of happiness. The stress that results from this and more specifically the high-blood pressure and low-immunity, is scientifically proven to contribute to a tinnitus favoring environment. This explains why, almost without exception, the worse someone feels the worse, or more deafening, their tinnitus gets and, lucky for you, vice-versa.

People who are depressed or have anxiety, as chronic tinnitus sufferers commonly do, are also shown to be running a deficit of a brain neurotransmitter called gamma-aminobutyric acid (AKA GABA), which functions to inhibit central nervous system function and when not functioning, causes seizures and convulsions.

Why is this important to you? Well, a groundbreaking study published by the Martha Entemann Tinnitus Research Center in 2002, determined that the GABA receptor is the central pathway that regulates the passage of all tinnitus symptoms!

In Part 2/3 of this guide to triggering a tinnitus stress cure, you'll learn the definition of feeling good to feel less tinnitus and how to start doing this anywhere, and anytime.

Stressed? Try These Easy Relaxation Techniques

Posted: 08 May 2012 04:00 AM PDT

Article by Jay Lambert

The chances are that you are either experiencing stress right now, or have done in the past - and likely will in the future! There's no escaping it in the modern world. Even if you can't avoid stress, you can easily learn some relaxation techniques to alleviate the problem. The 3 relaxation techniques below are very easy to learn and can have a big positive benefit for your mental and physical health - let's not forget that stress is quite literally a killer.

1. Visualization or Guided Imagery

Guided imagery or visualization is a popular relaxation technique which simply involves imagining, in as much detail as possible, a pleasant location or situation. You should find a comfortable place to sit or lie down, with your eyes closed, picture a beautiful scene in your mind; perhaps a desert island, a forest or by the side of a tranquil river. It's vital to fully involve all of your senses in creating your perfect location. For example, if you chose a riverbank, then you should 'hear' the sound of the water, 'smell' the riverside flowers and feel the soft grass beneath you. When you have built up a detailed picture and relaxed in your chosen paradise, slowly come back to the real world; hopefully feeling more calm and refreshed.

2. Breathing Exercises

Ok, so on the face of it, breathing doesn't sound like an impressive technique, after all, you've been doing it all your life!. But deep breathing is a widely recognised and effective stress reduction technique. Simply lie or sit down where you won't be disturbed for a few minutes, close your eyes and place one hand on your chest and the other on your stomach. Take a slow deep breath through your nose, pushing your stomach out as you do so. Hold the breath for 5 second and then slowly let it out through your mouth, again counting to 5, and push your stomach back in. If you're doing it properly, then the hand on your chest should remain more or less still, while the one on your stomach goes up and down in time with your breathing.! After d oing several breathing cycles, you should feel refreshed, calm and less stressed.

3. PMR - Progressive Muscle Relaxation

Lastly, let's take a quick look at PMR. To perform this relaxation technique, you tense and relax groups of muscles in your body, starting with your toes and working upwards. Make sure you focus your attention on the sensation of tensing and relaxing your muscles - as well as being physically relaxing it can be rather like a form of meditation. Regularly practicing PMR can lead to reduced blood pressure, a slower heart rate and improved blood flow and circulation. This means that Progressive Muscle Relaxation can be physically as well as mentally beneficial.

The next time you feel stressed out, try one or more of these techniques to help you overcome it. They only take a few minutes to perform, but can make a huge difference to your health and well-being.

Stressed of hair thinning problem

Posted: 08 May 2012 03:00 AM PDT

Article by lisa schuster

Hair loss is the appearance of thinning hair or bald patches on the scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes, or on locations of the body that previously had hair, for example the arms or legs. On typical, everyone naturally loses 50-100 of their 100,000 scalp hairs per day. Abnormal hair loss is triggered when hair falls out at an accelerated rate, or when more than time, hairs are not replaced as swiftly as they fall out.Hair loss can happen to men, women, infants and children in all socioeconomic strata and geographic locations. Genetic hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) is the most typical kind of hair loss.

Thinning hair , excessive hair loss and all of the tension that comes along ultimately brought me to seeking some remedies to restore the beauty of my hair. It was more than stressful to see how my as soon as curly, shiny and dense hair was gradually turning into a dry, brittle and sparse mess. With time, I came to know that the culprit for my thinning hair was stress and also the lack of a healthy eating plan, which would provide me with nutritious components that my digestive and endocrine systems had been a lot in require of.

You may think of thinning hair as a male issue, however it happens to women, too, and for a number of causes. Causes of thinning hair consist of health conditions such as a thyroid disorder or perhaps a significant deficiency in particular nutrients. Some medications can lead to thinning hair, too. And should you appear to lose hair suddenly, it may possibly be that a stressful scenario within your life has brought on a response referred to as telogen effluvium. When this takes place, your hair will thin noticeably about two to three months right after the event and take many months to grow back in.

Typically although, thinning hair is an inherited trait. In females, locks have a tendency to thin out on the top or sides of the head or in the crown. This is likely to be more obvious as you get older, when hair fibers naturally get thinner.

You have to put ! a bit "s pring" to your cherished locks to ensure that you won't often be bald following a number of years. Begin finding solutions immediately for the reason that clock is ticking. Maybe you could have learned a whole lot of specific ideas and options with regards to natural thinning hair treatment for women.

Oil removes of amla also called the gooseberry is alleged to be really good for stimulative weak and tired locks, and assists in enhancing growth of the hair. Drinking the juice extract from amla is stated to deliver the right quantity of nutrition to the hair and when the acrylic s applied towards the scalp and massaged for some time, that enhances blood circulation throughout the hair.

Do you want to treat hair loss obviously? Start with a correct diet strategy. One of the primary causes of the thinning plus falling of your tresses is undoubtedly hormonal imbalance. This issue involving a person's hormones generally appears whilst you do not eat the correct kinds of foodstuff with the correct amount. Concentrate significantly more about healthy foods and decrease the consumption of junk foods and sweets.

Though it may possibly be one of the most unexpected thinning hair natural remedies, green tea really works to stop, treat and reverse hair loss. Like the other helpful herbal plants listed above, green tea inhibits the production of 5-alpha-reductase, the enzyme that allows DHT to shrink and kill the hair follicles.

Aroma therapists use 7 drops of the following components: bay important and jasmine oils in 113.4 h of either: sesame, soybean and also almond oil. Massage the mixture for your scalp and leave it for 20 minutes to help stimulate this.

Aloe Vera is one ingredient Indians and also Native Americans have used to quit baldness. Aloe heals your remaining hair, cleans your pores, too as in the identical time balances your scalp's ph level. Prepare by preparing the Aloe gel together with wheat-germ oil (tiny amount) having a couple of coconut milk. The three ingredients ! make a h omemade shampoo of which promises fantastic advantages.

We all know of which anxiety can be a silent wonderful so why not kill this factor every time it surfaces? You will find great stress-reduction techniques which you can attempt such as going to a spa, taking a nice, warm bath, performing yoga workouts or meditation and providing your self a scalp massage. Anything to obtain that stress out of your respective system, do it. Professionals at present have linked stress to hormonal imbalance and you do not want that in your soul.

So you are able to see that there is a wide range of causes of thinning hair , but it's accurate to say that the vast majority of individuals with hair thinning suffer from pattern baldness which, if undesirable, will continue until a particular degree of baldness is realized.

.Begin to take great action right now and are amazed precisely how things might be enhanced upon and also modified.Re-grow flowing hair now.

Reduce Stress and Boost Your Immune System: (7) Health Benefits of Expressing Gratitude

Posted: 08 May 2012 02:00 AM PDT

Article by Winifred Bragg, MD

We live in a fast paced world, and we all experience some degree of stress at times.  Over the years, I have found that patients who are grateful deal more effectively with the stressors associated with living with chronic pain, which is pain that has lasted more than three months.

Gratitude is the act of being appreciative of what we have rather than feeling bad about those things we don't have. The positive attitude that patients with gratitude show is a positive asset in the treatment process. These patients are usually willing to try numerous treatment options.

Rather than expressing bitterness they get involved in their treatment and they continually focus on trying to get better. These patients are willing to set realistic goals and they focus more on well-being and less on pain. Life's challenges can cause us internal conflict, and these constant internal battles can increase stress and cause us to waste a lot of energy.  Therefore, each of us must learn how to cope with the stressors of everyday life. With gratitude we find joy in our daily lives.

An attitude of gratitude can enhance our lives in numerous ways. People who are grateful tend to be happier, healthier and more fulfilled. Being grateful can help people cope with stress. Therefore, it is essential to practice giving gratitude on a daily basis.  Seven health benefits of Gratitude:

1. Grateful people take better care of themselves. This results in improving their overall health, because they pay attention to what they eat, and how much they eat.

2. Grateful people exercise more regularly.

3. Gratitude reduces stress, which can help to reduce heart disease.

4. Gratitude boosts the immune system; therefore, you are less susceptible to disease. Negative feelings, however, can weaken the immune system.

5. With stress reduction, you are calmer, therefore you think more clearly and you have more concentration.

6. When you maintain the feeling of thankfulness for as litt! le as 15 to 20 seconds, breathing becomes deeper, increasing the oxygen level of your tissues.

7. Gratitude helps to restore a positive mood, and decreases depression.

Research has demonstrated several health benefits of gratitude. With positive feelings and optimistic views, stress is reduced and blood pressure is better controlled. With better-controlled blood pressure, the risk of heart disease is reduced.

Whether one expresses gratitude is a personal choice.

However, isn't it worthwhile from a health standpoint to take the effort to get rid of negative thoughts and start enjoying the benefits of gratitude?

One way to ensure that you remember to express gratitude is to start making the effort to give words of gratitude to those who you love today.

Each morning look for people or things throughout the day for which you are grateful, and take the time to appreciate them.

Remember to say "thank you" to the special people in your life.

Get rid of negativity and let your acts of gratitude change your attitude (sm).

Six Benefits Of Meditation

Posted: 08 May 2012 01:00 AM PDT

Article by Mike Garrett

Meditation is invaluable for many people. Think of meditation as the opposite of a frazzled, stressful lifestyle. Learning to meditate is easy, and you will find the advantages of meditation can be varied, so meditation can help anyone in any walk of life.

First, meditation can help you significantly reduce pain. Many people who are in harsh physical pain will look to meditation as a way to release their minds and bodies from experiencing this pain, and most doctors recommend meditation as an alternative medicine. For those of us who suffer from chronic discomforts, such as backaches or arthritis, meditation is a great way to forget the pain altogether for a few minutes and reduce the pain overall in our lives.

Meditation is also a great way to release yourself from experiencing mental or spiritual pain. Many who have recently lost a loved one find that meditation is a way to push harmful and painful thoughts from the mind and create a less stressful life. Religious people also use meditation as a form of prayer or as a form of religious awakening. Although this does not have to be your reason for meditating, if you seek a way in which to connect to the divine, meditation is recommended in most, if not all, of the major world religious. By connecting more deeply to your form of God, you can find inner peace while you are meditating, and this will continue within your everyday life.

Mediation is also a great way to unlock your hidden potential. You may have heard of people who have had ideas "come to them"--this is a goal of meditation. When you have a problem, for example, by meditation, the answer can be made clear. This is true as well for creative blocks--writers and artists who take a break from work to meditate may find their work better when they return from a meditation session. In fact, in any job, meditation is a good way to deal with burnout--sometimes you just need a break from your job in order to make your work better. If you receive short breaks at work, or if you ! have tim e after lunch, this is a good time to meditate.

In general, meditation is not only useful for those who wish to solve the above problems. If you are happy and healthy with every aspect of life, you can still benefit from meditating. People who meditate find that their senses are better adjusted to life, and so you will be able to experience better vision, hearing, smell, taste, and touch.

You can also benefit from meditation by learning the process before you have to deal with stress--those who meditate find it easier to deal with problems that arise. Meditation is also good for pregnant mothers, and couples can meditate together to find inner peace with themselves and peace with one another.

Overall, meditation has almost no disadvantages, and it only takes 15 to 20 minutes every day to learn to enjoy the benefits. Before long, you should be able to clearly see the advantages to this practice showing up in your everyday life.

Using Hot Tubs and Supplies to Remedy Aches, Pains and Stress

Posted: 08 May 2012 12:00 AM PDT

Article by Jeremy Smith

People with sore muscles and soft tissue injuries often feel better after using moist heat. Taking it one step further, using a spa or hot tub has an even stronger positive impact on health and stress reduction. Heat and warm water allow the body to relax by slowing down the internal organs and lessening muscle tension. Spending time in a spa reduces stress and improves health. Often referred to as hydrotherapy, healthcare professionals recommend the use of spas for those recovering from car accidents, personal injury and frequent stress.

Short-term hydrotherapy sessions sometimes turn into a new-found interest in hot tubbing for enjoyment and relaxation. It is also helpful to lessen chronic pain and improve mobility in patients who have had serious back, neck and leg injuries.

When the nerves on the skin's surface are subjected to the warmth and pressure of a spa, they absorb and carry impulses deeper below the skin's surface and further into the body. This, in turn, reduces pain sensitivity and lowers the production of stress hormones. As a result, people who relax in spas and hot tubs often find helpful relief of stress and pain.

When simply sitting in a hot tub and letting the worries and pains of the day subside on their own isn't enough, spa owners can step it up a notch with additional remedies.

For example, changing the number and type of water jets redirects water flow. Therapeutic spigots positioned just above the bench or seat of the hot tub can be directed toward the hips and lower back to reduce chronic pain. Replace bubble jets on the floor with heavier jets to massage the feet. This is especially helpful for those with poor foot circulation or who stand on their feet all day, every day.

There are a number of hot tub supplies available on the market to ease the aches and pains experienced by athletes, arthritis sufferers and busy workaholics. Aromatherapy packets and water additives enhanced with lavender and other herbs reduce stress and increase c! omfort. They can not only be used to improve cartilage and joint problems, but some also offer detox therapy and specialized formulas to reduce swelling.

Spa pillows are another remedy. Helpful for those with neck, shoulder and back pain, they enhance the relaxing experience by supporting the head and neck while the spa owner is soaking in the tub. Some styles offer suction cups to attach the pillow to the side of the spa, while others feature a hanging weight to help keep it in place.

Mind Reprogramming - The Key to a Better You

Posted: 07 May 2012 11:00 PM PDT

Mindfulness
by RubyJi

Article by Christian Hall

The human mind, like a computer, is programmed to strive after certain goals and ideals, and can also be reprogrammed to regard those goals as inconsequential. The part of the mind programmed in such a manner is the subconscious, which controls our beliefs, personality, memory and habits.

Unfortunately, this programming is done for us by other people, our environment and experiences. Many people go through life weighed down by subconsciously and unconsciously striving to attain goals and ideals that are shaped by other people. These people have to practice mind reprogramming to achieve the maximum from life.

As an example, consider a young man, five foot tall, who was always shorter than his peers, from the earliest time when he can remember. If he has always been laughed at and put down for his height, it may eventually result in his feeling inadequate due to his height. This could result in his subconscious always striving to be taller, even if he's well past the growing age. This can lead to a lower overall quality of life for the individual. He has been programmed to think of his height in a negative way. If you've been in a similar position, due to weight, facial features and the like, you, like the young man, need mind reprogramming.

It should be noted that negative programming is not limited to a person's beliefs concerning their physical attributes. You can grow up harboring negative beliefs concerning your intelligence, worthiness and abilities, as well as misconceptions about money, love, success and a multitude of other issues. Any of these problem areas can be changed by using simple mind reprogramming techniques.

Mind reprogramming is simply a method of getting your subconscious to see things in a different manner than the way it does presently. Our minds can easily be reprogrammed, as anyone who has experienced a life threatening situation can attest to. However, we do not need to be in such dire situations to reprogram our minds. There are ways to reprogram ! your min d, and they involve mind power exercises, to force your subconscious to see things the way you want, and not the way others have made you see them.

One way to perform mind reprogramming, for the young man above would be to think of his height in positive ways. Another method could involve accepting that he can never grow to six feet, and discarding that from his subconscious goals.

Mind reprogramming can help you live a more fulfilled life. With mind reprogramming you can stop yourself from being scared of things that scare you, and even alter the way you perceive and relate to people in your environment.

For over 20 years, the U.S. Army had a slogan, "Be All That You Can Be." Everyone should aspire to that goal, but few ever attain it. The truth is, most people have limiting beliefs that stand in their way, that stop them from being all they can be. What is it that is holding you back? It's time to reprogram your mind for success.

"Search Inside Yourself" -- compassionate, scientific, businesslike

Posted: 07 May 2012 11:00 PM PDT

I've got a new favorite book: Chade-Meng Tan's Search Inside Yourself -- the unexpected path to achieving success, happiness (and world peace).

It didn't take much searching inside myself to realize that I liked Tan's approach to mindfulness, meditation, and all that stuff. Just reading the forewords by Daniel Goldman and Jon Kabat-Zinn, along with Tan's first two chapters, had my inner self saying "Yes, yes, yes" this morning.

Here's one Yes passage:

In learning and teaching meditation, the good news is that mindfulness is embarassingly easy. It is easy because we already know what it's like, and it's something we already experience from time to time. Remember that Jon Kabat-Zinn skillfully defined mindfulness as "paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally."

Put most simply, I think mindfulness is the mind of just being. All you really need to do is pay attention moment-to-moment without judging. It is that simple.

My initial Yes, which led me to buy the book, came from reading a story in the New York TImes, "OK, Google, Take a Deep Breath."

Employees coming from fast-paced fields, already accustomed to demanding bosses and long hours, say Google pushes them to produce at a pace even faster than they could have imagined. Google's co-founder and chief executive, Larry Page, recently promised on the company Web site to maintain "a healthy disregard for the impossible."

Little wonder, then, that among the hundreds of free classes that Google offers to employees here, one of the most popular is called S.I.Y., for "Search Inside Yourself." It is the brainchild of Chade-Meng Tan, 41, a tall, thin, soft-spoken engineer who arrived at Google in 2000 as Employee No. 107.

Think of S.I.Y. as the Zen of Google. Mr. Tan dreamed up the course and refined it with the help of nine experts in the use of mindfulness at work. And in a time when Google has come under new scrutiny from European and United States regulators over privacy and other issues, a class in mindfulness might be a very good thing.

The class has three steps: attention training, self-knowledge and self-mastery, and the creation of useful mental habits.

Tan is an engineer. He's got a scientific, systematic, non-religious approach to mindfulness/meditation which resonates with my churchless non-soul.

(Also with the aspect of me that spent two years in a Systems Science Ph.D. program back in the 70's; I still mow our large, convoluted lawn with great precision, always searching for an improved mowing pattern that minimizes my time and maximizes cutting criteria, such as least amount of clumped clippings when the grass is tall.)

I was pleased to find that according to his book's index, Tan only has two references to Buddha in the 247 pages. Both are brief quotes. Excellent.

And understandable, given Tan's engineering attitude toward mindfulness, and the fact that he has been teaching Search Inside Yourself in a corporate setting, Google, comprised of a large number of diverse, highly intelligent, and similarly scientifically-minded employees.

Still, compassion is a key concept in both his book and the course. Compassion is fun. It leads to happiness. Importantly, compassion also is profitable. Here's a Tan TED video where he speaks about "Everyday compassion at Google."

In the first five minutes he gives several examples of how Google employees initiated charitable projects on their own. Only later did they become official Google initiatives.

This demonstrates the obvious: compassion, mindfulness, meditation, self-awareness, charity, serenity, peace -- "religious" or "spiritual" people don't possess these things in any greater measure than the rest of us.

In fact, positive qualities (like negative qualities) can't be possessed, because they aren't ours. In fact, neuroscience is pretty sure there's no such thing as an "ours," since there is no such thing as a "me."

Chade-Meng Tan has a quirky, appealing sense of humor. His book is filled with light-hearted illustrations. Thumbing through it, I didn't see any religious'y images. Nice.

Still, Tan says he is a practicing Buddhist. Check out his personal website about Buddhism, where Tan tells us:

Welcome to "What do you think, my friend?". This site contains a selection of writings on Buddhism.

This site takes a highly personal and practical approach towards Buddhism. Here, there are no deep philosophical discussions on Anatta or Sunnata. Just ordinary people like myself sharing insights and experiences on how Buddhism had benefitted us, and exchanging some nice stories and a few good jokes about Buddhism.

This is why I named my website "What do you think, my friend?". In this little corner of cyberspace, there is no Great Master. There is no, "Please enlighten me, Venerable Sir". There is only a funny guy living his life and sharing it. There is only, "What do you think, my friend?".

Launched in May 1995, this site is one of the oldest Buddhist sites on the web.

Meditations: The Use Of Sacred Phrases In Your Daily Meditations

Posted: 07 May 2012 10:00 PM PDT

Article by Chris Le Roy

There are many reasons for meditating, such as meditating for relaxation, stress relief or dealing with an issue. Sometimes you may even meditate for the fun of it because of the high you get coming off a meditation session. However, sometimes you may want to meditate for a purpose or to help reinforce something you want to achieve.

If you are an elite athlete you may meditate each day to help you in your mental preparation by meditating on what you will do to win your race or if you are a basketball player you may meditate on shooting a 3 point shot. You can achieve these outcomes by using phrases during your meditation session.

The objective of these phrases during a meditation session is to help reprogram your mind to achieve your objectives when your mind is in its most malleable state. The mind is most open to suggestion or reprogramming during a meditation session.

The Buddhist Monk uses sacred meditation phrases during a meditation session to help them in overcoming their transgressions and ill thoughts they have during the day. They are provided these sacred phrases from the teachings of Buddha, their teachers and the Dalai Lama. Each Sacred Phrase contains an important lesson that is to be learnt.

A sample sacred phrase by Buddha goes as -

Speak the truth, do not become angered and give when asked, even be it a little. By these three conditions one goes to the presence of the gods.

Another sacred phrase that is useful in daily life -

The wise who control body, speech and mind are indeed the consummately controlled.

The Buddhist religion and community are not the only religion that has sacred phrases that can be used during a meditation session. Some meditators who come from the Christian faith will use sacred phrases from the bible such as the Psalms or the Lords Prayer.

Virtually every religion has sacred phrases you can use through your meditation sessions and most of these phrases are about trying to help you become a better perso! n and to respect your fellow man.

Many people ask me how I incorporate these sacred phrases into my meditation. Well I first begin by identifying the sacred phrase I want to start with. I will read it aloud and once I have decided what I want to get from the meditation session then that is when I will start.

For example, I may want to meditate on how to deal with a person who is causing me grief or always seems to get me angry. I will find a sacred phrase that I can reflect on and use that phrase during my meditation.

I start off by simply beginning my meditation session with simple breathing exercises that help clear my mind and to get me to a state in which I can begin using the sacred meditation phrases. During a 20 minute meditation session, I find that it generally takes about 5 to 8 minutes to get to the point that I am ready for the next stage in the meditation cycle of using the sacred phrase.

Now that I am ready to begin the next stage, I start by reciting the sacred phrase in my mind. During the first recitation I will simply recite the sacred phrase without any reflection. On the second recitation of the sacred phrase I will begin paying close attention to the words in the sacred phrase and the meanings of the words. Over the next few recitations of those phrases I will begin to look at how I apply the meanings of the phrases to my everyday life.

I continue this process till I am ready to finish off my meditation. The last stage of my meditation cycle involves making a conscious commitment to improving my life and to take on board the values and meanings of the sacred phrase.

The core objective of using sacred phrases during your meditation sessions is to help you improve, you, as a person and the role that you will play on this earth. If we do not contemplate and reflect on these sacred phrases in this way then the phrases will be nothing more than pretty words and will not serve the purpose they were intended for.

7 Things I Wish I Knew When I Started Triathlon

Posted: 07 May 2012 10:00 PM PDT

Triathalon

Triathlons can be intimidating.

The mere mention of one conjures up images of genetically perfect athletes speeding through race segments so fast that they're blurry. Fortunately, you don't have to be a genetic freak in order to be able to run your first triathlon. A sprint distance triathlon is typically only a 400-600m swim, a 12.4 mile bike and a 5k run and is one of the fastest growing sports in North America.

If you decide to race a triathlon, you can run your first sprint distance triathlon in about 3 months of training and as it turns out, triathlons aren't as intimidating as they sound.

After dozens of triathlons and a half ironman, here are 7 things I wish I knew about triathlon when I started:
  • You Don't Need A Wetsuit For Your First Race
You don't need a wetsuit for your first race. Not only is it an expensive piece of equipment that can take a while to get use to swimming in, a lot of times they're not even allowed! If the water temperature is above 84 degrees Fahrenheit you won't be allowed to wear the wetsuit and compete for awards. If you don't have a wetsuit, don't worry that much about it - lots of people race without one. Once you run one or two races and have them under your belt, you can look at renting or even buying a wetsuit - but it's not a "must-have" for your first race.

  • When You're In The Water Just Relax
Everyone is always nervous about the swim. When you're in the water, waiting for the race gun to go off, it can be really, really tempting to get pumped up, overstressed spend all your energy thinking about the race. The swim is consistently the most feared leg for! new tri athletes without a swim background.

It's okay. Relax. Stay loose and don't go too hard right out of the gate. If you have a lot of people around you kicking and splashing, breathe and go at your own pace - one that's quick, but (more importantly) sustainable. It's way too common for people to freeze up and panic during the swim. If you ever feel rushed, panicked or tired, simply stop, tread water, hold on to a buoy or a boat if you have to and take deep breaths until you calm down.

  • Keep Your Nutrition Simple
Nutrition for triathlon can get really complicated, really fast - if you let it. However, it doesn't have to be that difficult. Simply eating well will cut out half the complexity of a nutrition regimen. Eliminating processed foods and choosing to eat real food and choosing water instead of sodas, and alcohol will help get your body get used to digesting real nutrients and utilizing your energy resources efficiently. It sounds really simple and it is. In fact, if you do this, you don't have to worry about carbo-loading or any other nutrition hacks for your first sprint distance triathlon.

  • Follow A Training Program
A triathlon training program is immensely helpful to helping you get started doing your first race. Besides actually getting you physically ready for a race, a training program lays out a road map to show you where to start your training and how to finish based on your training level. It's much easier to focus on a 30 minute workout you have to do today than it is to think about the triathlon you have to run in just 90 days. Not only does a training plan make things less intimidating but it also guides you from your current fitness level across the fitness line.

  • Practice Brick Workouts
If you've practiced swi! m, bike and run workouts and think that's all there is to a triathlon, you'd be wrong. You'll want to practice brick workouts before your first race.

Brick workouts are when you practice two disciplines back to back. The most common brick is the bike and the run. you'll do your bike workout and then get off, change shoes if you need to, and do your run

The first time you'll do this, your legs will feel like lead. That's why they're called brick workouts. After practicing this a couple times through, your legs will start to get the hang of it and your mind will get used to the fact that the first quarter or half mile of running is just going to be tough.

  • Your Bike Doesn't Matter Until It Matters
You really don't need a nice bike to get started racing. Too many new triathletes go out and buy a $ 5,000 bike, do one race with it and then let it collect dust in the garage. You can get a bike for $ 150 off Craigslist or borrow one to get started. It really doesn't matter what type of bike you start out, with one exception. Don't use a mountain bike. You might not realize it now, but a mountain bike is significantly slower and harder to pedal than a road bike. The frame of the bike is less comfortable for long distances, the overall bike is much heavier and the wheel is much smaller and wider, which means you go less distance every time you pedal and each of those pedal strokes harder. If you're like me, you might not full grasp the difference of this until you race your first triathlon on a mountain bike. Never again. Beg, borrow or steal a road bike if you can.

  • Start Now
Triathlon season is coming up. You'll see the bulk of triathlons happening from May to late September. If you can exercise for just 15 minutes right now, y! ou can t rain to do a triathlon in about 3 months. If you start now, you'll be ready for early summer races and (if you enjoy your first triathlon), you'll have a couple of months to do your second as well.
The absolute hardest part of doing a triathlon is the act of deciding that you're going to do it. Make that decision and everything else is just the legwork to make it happen.

On the fence, why not sign up for a triathlon today and run your first triathlon in 3 months.

Talk Your Way To Happiness

Ajahn Brahm: This talk revolves around the second and third factors of the Noble Eightfold Path, namely the Intentions of Renunciation, Goodwill and Harmlessness - as well as the practising of Right Speech. Always pragmatic and practical, the Dhamma taught by the Buddha 2500 years ago, correlates perfectly with contemporary concepts of psychology: deluded and and ego-intoxicated, humans project their own fears and weaknesses onto others, rather than face these within themselves. This creates endless conflict and suffering. Loving kindness, gentleness, humility and frugality are the Buddha's antidote...
