How To Reduce Your Asthma With Yoga

Posted: 20 May 2012 12:00 PM PDT

Article by Norman Hurst

Yoga has been a revelation for many people. They have found that they can improve the quality of their life with the power of yoga. Yoga combines both physical and mental activities, so it engages your whole body rather than just part of it. Some of the benefits of yoga include better breathing, easier relaxation and relief from the symptoms of asthma.

The reason that yoga can help with your asthma is that by using yoga, you will get your body back to a more natural state. Both your body and your mind will be less stressed.

Relaxation and deep breathing were made for each other. Both of them help you to calm down, clear your mind and re-energize your body. By spending a few minutes taking slow, controlled breaths and paying attention to your breathing rather than taking it for granted, you will notice that your breathing automatically becomes calmer. Rather than it's "normal", hyper-active state. In turn, this will bring more energy into your body and calm you down.

Try out this simple breathing relaxation exercise. Read the instructions through a couple of times and then start.

1. Sit down, making sure that your posture is good and your spine is straight as possible.

Place your feet flat on the floor and check that your knees are directly over your feet. Place your hands on top of your legs.

2. Gently close your eyes.

3. Concentrate your thoughts on your ribs and your lungs. Inhale slowly and deeply. Notice your lungs filling up and your ribs expanding outwards and upwards. Then slowly exhale, again noticing your lungs slowly releasing the air you've just breathed in and your ribs gradually going back in and down.

4. Repeat this routine once a day for up to 3 minutes when you first start out. Over the coming days, gradually increase up to 5 and then 10 minutes throughout the day as necessary.

Yoga breathing exercises have been shown to help sufferers of mild asthma. You may still need your medication and any other health devices, although you ! should n otice that you need them less and less as you practice these techniques.

Conscious Business: How to Shed Energetic Weight So Your Conscious Business Can Fly

Posted: 20 May 2012 11:00 AM PDT

Article by Christine Kloser

Copyright (c) 2008 Christine Kloser

Does your business ever feel "weighed down" to you? Like there's something invisible holding it back from reaching its' (and your) highest potential? This kind of "energetic weight" puts you and your business in a danger zone. And, often times it's not what's happening in your business that's causing the sluggishness; it's what's happening in every other part of your life that's affecting your business' bottom-line.

If you want to reach your destination (your goals and dreams), you've got to identify the "weight" in your life and know how it energetically affects your conscious business. Once you do that, you can begin making the shifts necessary to release these energy drains and let the abundance and joy flow into your life, and your business.

There are two strategies I recommend to help you identify and release those things that are energetically holding you back.

Strategy #1: Take Inventory

One sure-fire way to help your business lift-off is to give yourself the gift of taking an "inventory." No, this is not the time to count how many products you have ready to ship to customers; rather, this is the time to ask yourself questions that give you clarity on how your feelings, beliefs, stresses, circumstances and attitudes (about every part of your life) are affecting your business. Because, the truth is your business is a reflection of EVERY area of your life.

So, I invite you to begin asking yourself some of these questions. (If you haven't gotten to it yet, my book The Freedom Formula, goes into a lot more detail on this process.) But, for now, you can begin by reflecting on these areas of your life:

Personal (health, relationships, family, recreation, hobbies, etc.) Spiritual (faith, love, fulfillment, contribution, etc.) Financial (gross revenues, expenses, net revenues, investments, savings, debt, etc.) Business (mission, vision, products/services, operations, team, marketing, fulfillment, etc.) Simply begin by ref! lecting on these areas and asking yourself these questions: 1) what is your current experience in that area; 2) what is your level of satisfaction and joy in that area; 3) what are your challenges in that area; and 4) what is your highest vision for that area of your life?

As you do this, be sure to keep in mind that you're not looking at these areas to identify points of separation. Instead, you're taking this inventory so you can find threads, themes, consistencies, unity and ultimately a fully integrated picture of your life. Because, it's your integrated life that's going to have the greatest impact on your business... that's when you live in the FLOW, and manifest your desires with ease and with grace.

Strategy #2: Delegate

Another strategy that will help you shed energetic weight is to delegate the things on your to do list that don't bring you joy. Why? Because when your "to do" list is filled with tasks you don't enjoy, your energy drops... your frustration increases and the FLOW of everything good basically comes to a halt. On the other hand, when you do those things that bring you joy, you experience MORE joy, more love, more fulfillment, and more light as you feel more connected, more peaceful and more on purpose. Get the idea? It's a snowball effect. Now, you may be asking yourself, can delegating really help you experience all this? And the answer is yes!

It's easy to get started. Simply write down a list of everything you do and categorize your "to do" list according to these four categories: 1) don't like doing; 2) love to do; 3) can be done later; and, 4) not worth doing at all. Once you have your list organized, start with the "delegate" list and identify at least three items you can hand off to someone else. And, use your newly found time to focus on the second category... things you LOVE to do! Then, notice how this shift helps to eliminate some of that "weight" you've been feeling in your business.

Using these two strategies (taking an inventory and delegating wh! at you d on't enjoy) are two critical factors that'll help you step into the abundant flow in your business. You'll be pleasantly surprised to see how implementing these simple strategies will help you feel lighter in your business, more joyful in your life and more easily able to attract more of what you want. Once the energetic weight is gone, the good just keeps on coming!

Buddhism: Thailand Part 2

Posted: 20 May 2012 08:00 AM PDT

Article by Manora

Buddhism gained wide acceptance because its emphasis on tolerance and individual initiative complemented the Thais' cherished inner freedom. Fundamentally, Buddhism is an empirical way of life. Free of dogma, it is a flexible moral, ethical and philosophical framework within which people find room to fashion their own salvations.

Sukhothai's King Ramkamhaeng (1275-1317) established Theravada Buddhism as Thailand's dominant religion. The elder of two major Buddhist schools and closest to the Buddha's original teachings, it was practised then much as it is today. Ramkamhaeng's grandson, King Lu Thai (1347-1368) wrote the Tribhumikotha, a treatise on Buddhist cosmology, a spectacular eschatology of heavens, hells and hungry ghosts. Not only was it the first Thai-authored Buddhist treatise, it was also the first known Thai literary work.

Through the centuries Buddhism has been the main driving force in Thai cultural development. Much of classical Thai art, particularly architecture, sculpture, painting and early literature, is really Buddhist art.

Then as now, Buddhism coloured everyday Thai life.As Buddhism's benign influence spread countrywide, Thais of all classes submitted to its moral authority. Thai monarchs subscribed to the Buddhist ideals of kingship found in the original Theravada scriptures, while farmers serenely accepted their station and fortune, or misfortune, as logical karmic consequences of previous lives.

With its emphasis on accepting human foibles and shortcomings as inevitable, Buddhism helped forge and crystalize the Thais' remarkable tolerance and lack of prejudice, a major factor which was to allow smooth, peaceful assimilation of captives during medieval Thailand's almost perpetual conflicts with neighbouring countries. It also allowed the Thais to embrace diverse cultural influences regardless of origin.

Responding to this openness to new ideas, European missionaries could propagate their faiths in Thailand. Because Buddhism answered so many of ! the peop le's needs, they found few converts.

Although Buddhism became the primary religion, Thais have always subscribed to the ideal of religious freedom. While Thai constitutions have stipulated that Thai kings must be Buddhist, monarchs are invariably titled 'Protectors of All Religions'. Consequently, the government, through the Religious Affairs Department, annually allocates funds to finance religious education and construct, maintain and restore temples, mosques and churches.

The temple and the villageThe majority of Thailand's 27,000 Buddhist temples are in the countryside.

Usually located on the village outskirts, a temple is comprised of a tree-shaded, walled compound enclosing a cluster of simple, steeply sloping, multi-roofed buildings. Although the temple's prime function

is to aid aspirants in their search for Nirvana, it has traditionally served as the village hotel, a village news, employment and information agency, a school, hospital, dispensary or community centre, and a recreation centre, place of safe deposit and refuge for the mentally disturbed and the aged.

In large towns, the temple offers hostel accommodation for students from the out-lying villages. In others, orphans and children from poor families are admitted for free board, lodging and basic education and, occasionally, juvenile delinquents are sent to live in monasteries to be reformed under the benevolent influence of elderly monks.

Falun Gong brings tranquility to Times Square

Posted: 20 May 2012 08:00 AM PDT

Joshua Philipp & Zachary Stieber, Epoch Times: Something unique happened on Times Square on Saturday. From the morning until late afternoon, it became calm. Beneath the flashing billboards and amidst the bustling of tourists, hundreds of people sat in meditation while soft Chinese music played above low voices.

The event was one of several throughout the city marking the 20th year since Falun Gong was introduced to the public in China. Meditation lasted through the easy afternoon, and turned to music and Chinese dance as the day drew on.

And although this was a celebration, people standing on corners with fliers for …

Yoga and Astral Projection Classes

Posted: 20 May 2012 07:00 AM PDT

Article by Dalai Lumer

Are you seeking astral projection classes? Are you trying to learn astral travel and projection techniques? It can seem daunting at first, but it's absolutely achievable. Taking a class is a great idea, if you can find one if your local area.

This sometimes can prove more challenging then you might imagine. Astrologers and astral projection practitioners that are willing to teach are not as readily available or as common as one might hope. However there are a few ways to find a good one.

Community College

The first step is to check your local community college. Local colleges often run courses on many different topics, not just strictly speaking academic subjects. Check with a local school and see what you can find. Most instructors do it for the love of the subject, no to make money, so this is a great place to start.

New Age or Astrological Retailer

If you can find a retailer that sells items related to new age topics, mysticism, astrology, reiki or other such topics then you may also find someone that is willing to mentor your or holds classes. Often times they may also be able to refer you. Reiki is an ancient Japanese practice that shares many of the same techniques that are required for Astral Travel, such as relaxation, meditation and stress reduction.

Internet

Of course, there are plenty of courses and e-books available on the internet. Many of these are quite helpful. It's best to find one that has a free email course first. This way, you can evaluate the information before buying.

Reiki or Yoga

If you need a mentor or a method to help you get started and you just can't find a good course or someone you trust to help you, then consider taking Yoga. Yoga teaches many of the related and necessary skills that you will need. For example, yoga teaches you how to get in touch with your inner being. Yoga teaches mediation and relaxation. Yoga teaches you to be in touch with the world around you that you can't necessarily see.

These are a! ll very valuable life skills, but are also the preliminary steps that you need to perform Astral Projection. You may find this is all you need. Once you master truly relaxing, astral travel often comes very easily.

Reiki similarly can teach you a lot of what you need to know to get started with Astral Projection. A class in reiki, if available, would also be very valuable to helping you achieve the state of mind you need to find to get started with Astral Travel.

There are several options that you can consider if you want to learn astral projection but can't find a class locally. Check a community college and look online. If you can't find something that feels right, consider a yoga or reiki class instead.

Experiencing only itself

Posted: 20 May 2012 07:00 AM PDT

The Stress Reduction in me has always been attracted by this paragraph from the book Fields of Force by William Berkson.

"Helmholtz proved that once a vortex is put into a perfect fluid, it is eternal: there is no way the fluid's action alone could destroy it.  William Thomson suggested that perhaps all atoms are vortex atoms.  A vortex atom is something like a smoke ring in shape and behaviour, and it followed from Helmholtz's theorem that once such a vortex ring had been created, it could not be destroyed."

From this we can reason that in addition to the vortex being eternal, so is the fluid  from which it arises.  Taking one more step in reasoning, this fluid or medium is made of what Stress Reductions who follow the Lankavatra Sutra refer to as Mind-only or the same pure Mind (cittamatra).

Given that we are fundamentally this Mind and the phenomenal world is its unlimited expression, all that we have to overcome is our blindness which binds us to the ever changing display of phenomena.  Put another way, we have to overcome the illusion that the enlightened nature, or pure Mind, does not exist—which is no simple undertaking.  (Especially for the materialist or physicalist, there is no pure spirit like Mind.  All comes from matter.)

The only way to accomplish this realization is by, let us say, attending to the zero phase of phenomenality which again, I must say, is no simple undertaking.  When our Mind links up with Mind which opens to us in the zero phase of phenomenality—wham!  One instantly steps into the Buddha's world.  Our former world is recognized to be a continually moving and unfolding expression of absolute Mind (ekacitta) like waves are to water.

From this vantage point, whatever Mind perceives or experiences is really only itself just as the vortex is an expression of the eternal fluid.

Z Meditation Offers Meditation Retreats At Their Meditation Center in Dharamsala

Posted: 20 May 2012 06:00 AM PDT

Article by Lily Candice

Meditation retreats are one of the most useful means available to you for learning the art and practice of meditation in order to gradually develop a state of mind characterized by unconditional peace and happiness. Some see such a state of being as utopian and unachievable and believe that human beings cannot change. This is not so. The organizers of meditation retreats have themselves gone through the life changing process of elevating their minds, and have seen it happen with countless students who have come to them and gone away with their freedom. Z Meditation offers meditation retreats at their meditation center in Dharamsala, within the Himalayas of India. Here meditation retreats are carried out several times a year, giving the opportunity to sincere and willing students to learn a profound way of life which will enable them to perform effectively no matter the situation by living in a state of awareness. If we care to examine the lives of those who practice meditation diligently, we will observe that these people seem not to be bothered by the regular issues that will put the typical person into a fit or overwhelm. This is not because they are discounting the problem situation. Rather, it is because they have learnt from meditation retreats or elsewhere, the ability to remain calm even when facing daunting circumstances. And if we are honest with ourselves - will it not be easier to find the appropriate solution to a problem with a calm and balanced mind instead of a cluttered and restless disposition? Our restlessness derives its roots from our expectations concerning the outcome of plans and other programs, themselves arising out of conditionings about what should be and our desire to own and control. Z Meditation's meditation retreats will take its students through some courses including Deep Deconditioning Inquiry which seeks to assist us in digging out and rooting out the false beliefs and conditionings we have grown up developing since childhood; conditionings and beliefs which prog! ram the way and manner in which we act and react. The successful student at Z Meditation's meditation retreats will have developed a state of being in which she will be unconditionally peaceful and happy at all times, able to take a dispassionate look at a problem situation and mindfully find alternative solutions to the problem, or even accepting the situation as something she can do nothing about and live peacefully with it.Meditation retreats are mostly native to India but are springing up all over the world, with Indian meditation centers organizing meditation retreats anywhere in the world where they are invited. The cost of attending meditation retreats is very much affordable especially when you consider that the benefits derivable from meditation retreats cannot be quantified in monetary terms.Meditation retreats are usually residential and will be over in a matter of a few days, or at most a few weeks, depending on the level of the courses being taken. The comfort of the students is always well taken care of and seekers are expected to travel light.

God, Politics and the Kama Sutra

Posted: 20 May 2012 05:00 AM PDT

Article by Pam Gersh

God, Politics and the Kama Sutra

What if God, politics and the Kama Sutra are not mutually exclusive? Stay with me here. What if God, in his infinite wisdom actually gave Buddha the Kama Sutra? Much like he gave Moses the Ten Commandments? What if we only applied the Kama Sutra to politics? If you haven't read the Kama Sutra, here it is:

The Kama Sutra

"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it.

Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations.

Do not believe in anything because it is spoken and rumored by many.

Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books.

Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers or elders.

But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason, and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live to it."

Now what if we applied the Kama Sutra only to politics? If you used the Kama Sutra when approaching any political issue at the end of the day, you would come to your own conclusions based on nothing other than your own experiences and learning. Forget about the partisan talking heads, the shout jocks on TV and radio and the well-known among us who just love to share their opinions. Sounds pretty simple, right?

Yet in the United States we say religion and politics are separate; when in fact the two are intertwined in our culture like Apple pie and ice cream, hot dogs and baseball, guns and America and - you get the idea. Religion and politics are one in the same. A large majority of people use their religious beliefs to make political decisions. Fiery religious issues are used as hot buttons by both Democrats and Republicans. Yes, Democrats do it too - how about them "Blue Dog Democrats."

It's not very cool, kosher or politically correct to say that you are a practicing Buddhist (Richard Gere anyone?). Oh, you can makes jokes about it and s! ay that' s what you are, but if you are actually practicing the Kama Sutra on a daily basis and using it to make life decisions, then you are just weird, shunned by society, looked upon by your friends as amusing and eccentric. And believe me, I have a few Buddhist friends and they are pretty much checked out of society as we know it.

But what if we could make Buddhism work for the everyday stuff? Use the Kama Sutra and get involved instead of checking out? I truly believe that Buddhists do have it figured out. If there is a flaw, it is that once they have it figured out, they keep it to themselves. Once every other religious denomination thinks that they have it figured out, they gear up, start protelizing and preaching, and spending big bucks spreading the gospel. And that is where the Kama Sutra fails.

There are no big houses of Buddhist worship on this continent. No way to make money from a quiet congregation who is going to sit around and chant. The phrase "Big houses of Buddhist worship" is actually an oxymoron because it is an individual choice - being a Buddhist. You cannot preach the Kama Sutra. To preach means "to force or propel in an indicated direction." You cannot sermonize the Kama Sutra because to sermonize means "to make a moral judgment."

Therein lies the quandary of the Kama Sutra - so simple in its meaning and so hard to execute - just like politics and the tough choices they say we need to make - when the choices are actually pretty simple. Everyone needs access to affordable healthcare (check), we need to feed, house and cloth the poor and hungry (check), we need to educate our young (double-check) and make the elderly a part of our everyday lives (checkmate).

Yet by simply "being here on earth" we cannot make these things happen. We have to practice doing what is good for the whole a little every day. Even on the smallest scale doing a little every day has a profound effect on those closest to you and ultimately a small ripple effect on the planet.

So today, to! morrow o r next week, cut out the Kama Sutra, post it somewhere like I did years ago and try to read it every day. I never remember to read it every day. I think about it most often when I am outside doing yard work (if I was a real Buddhist I would have a garden), walking in the park or sitting and letting the sun beat down on me on a nice, breezy summer day. Those places are places God created, so that's where I feel his presence the most in my life.

When I look at the big issues through the words of the Kama Sutra it all seems so simple. So the next time you are studying a political issue; apply the words of the Kama Sutra and find out if you reach a different conclusion than the crowd. Its power is within each individual and isn't that what democracy is all about - individual power? Being an individual while still being part of the whole of humanity is the core belief of Buddhism. It also needs to be the core belief of this great democracy that we call America - because, no matter what you believe or how you slice it - America has a profound effect on the world.

Home Business Expert: Importance Of Prosperity Consciousness

Posted: 20 May 2012 04:00 AM PDT

Article by Nancy Jamison

"If you think you can, you can actually achieve what you want to". This mindset is the prosperity consciousness and it is popular among the New Age and New Thought communities. The fact is, all of us want to become rich, amass enough wealth so that we can live the life we want. All of want to buy that great property, go on that exotic vacation and own that fabulous new sports car or luxury sedan. But how many among us actually do end up achieving these? The answer is - 'not many'. This happens because far too many people either do not have the confidence in their knowledge and abilities, or never end up taking the necessary action that can lead to wealth creation. But with prosperity consciousness and your efforts, you can surely achieve the results you dream of.

Yes it is important to generate wealth first in the mind before you can start doing this in real life. Focus yourself on success and place yourself in a situation where you see yourself successful, and you will see that eventually your mind will force you to take necessary action that is essential for you to become successful. Begin to expect good things in your life and keep the faith, even though it may seem at times that your business is not taking you anywhere (this happens to all of us). Prosperity consciousness is powerful because 'if you think you can, you really can'.

We all deserve to achieve what we want to and be happy not just financially, but also emotionally, socially, physically and spiritually as well. But unless you are financially well off and happy, you will find that you really cannot be happy in other ways too. This is why so many people who are financially not prosperous are often faced with other problems as well.

However often people are not able to stay positive and think prosperous. But luckily there are many books you can read, listen to motivational CD's and even attend seminars that can help you train your mind once you have understood and accepted the importance of prosperity consciousness. ! Yes the key to becoming wealthy is to know how to first control your mind because the seeds of both success and failures are reaped in the mind.

How to Gain Height Doing Yoga

Posted: 20 May 2012 03:00 AM PDT

Article by Adam Marcowitch

The question that we are trying to answer in this article is can you gain height through yoga? Yoga can be used to strengthen the body and prepare your muscles for growth. It isn't just a celebrity fad that has taken off for no good reason - it is proven to work and improves your balance and your posture too. You don't need an elaborate gym to be built in your home or invest in lots of equipment. Some people perform their Yoga routine from the comfort of their own homes and if you are seriously thinking about ways in which you can gain height then this could be something for you too.

If you think about how difficult it is to stand straight and tall without slouching it is hard to imagine that anyone could maintain this stance permanently but yoga can teach you how. You can gain height instantly by working on your posture because when you stand straight you are at your tallest. Starting from this point will give some real results quickly and help you look as though you can gain height straight away.

Yoga is also about flexibility. You need to be flexible so that you can walk around and move with ease but the more flexible you are and the less compression there is in your spine the more chance it has of elongating and therefore growing..

Here we will look at some specific yoga movements you can try that will help you gain height over time and with perseverance and are very easy to start trying. You can improve your posture and release built up tension in your back so you feel able to stand up tall without slouching and keep that posture over time.

We will look at three yoga movements in turn and describe how to carry out each one Before you start though, you should speak to your doctor to check these are right for you.

The centered movement is very easy. You sit with your legs crossed on the floor and rest your hands gently on your knees. Sit so that your spine is straight and breathe in. As you breathe in lift your arms in the air above your head. As you breathe out sl! owly bri ng them back down to their starting position.

The triangle movement is slightly different and is great for posture but also good for relieving built up tension in your back. Stand with your feet quite far about. You might want to start at three feet apart and make your way up to four. Your feet should start by both pointing forward but then turn your left foot out at a right angle and your right foot out at 45 degrees. As you inhale lift your arms in the air and as you exhale turn to look along the length of your left arm. As you inhale again stretch your upper body down to your left ankle and when you can go no further place your left hand on the back of your leg and point your right arm to the ceiling. Hold this pose for a few deep breaths and then as you inhale straighten up and come back to your upright normal position. Repeat this movement for the other side of your body.

The dog and cat can be done together and involve getting onto the floor on all fours. As you inhale you curve your spine downwards so your stomach points to the floor and your head is pointed upwards. As you reverse this position and curve your spine the other way you can enter into the cat pose.

These are some great techniques you can try when you are looking to gain height. But, what you could also try is HeightGrowth Plus Height Gaining Supplements. HG-PLUS Grow Taller Pills will help you get the maximum benefit from your exercise regime and any other changes you make to your lifestyle. HeightGrowth-Plus Height Increase Formulation is completely natural so you don't need to worry about nasty side effects, just enjoy the benefits!

Misperceptions Shroud the Spiritual

Posted: 20 May 2012 02:00 AM PDT

Article by Leo Kim

Mental processes create our misperceptions that our world is made up of "things." The gap between science and spirituality is bridged by understanding this deception.

How the brain deceives us

Human reality is an illusion, an incomplete representation of our world. But how could all that our senses and intellects record be a mirage? If everything is energy (I explained this in another article), what are we experiencing? The sight of my world around me, the feel of the chair, the sound of conversations, the aromas and tastes of the food-how do all of those things come about from energy transformed by information? The great mystery of reality is how space and energy become all we experience. Part of the answer lies in the "tricks" our brains play on us in representing reality.

A minuscule fraction of the space and energy out there (visible light) is received by the eyes. The brain represents the light's information as things. The hearing apparatus receives energy waves and translate them into the impression of sounds. Feel, smell, and taste are from energy interacting with receptors and the brain portraying sensations. The bottom line is: it is energy providing our mental depictions of the world.

Our world is not things

The things we think we see are mere energy. What about a rock? The atoms in a rock are mainly space-only one trillionth of the volume of an atom is the nucleus, the rest is space (electrons are energy having no dimensions). But even the nucleus itself is only space with a bit of energy in it. A few light waves bounce off the energy of the atoms of the rock, reflect into my eyes, and my brain pictures energy out there as a rock. What about us?

Materialists would state that life is realized by the action of atoms and molecules. However, we are just space and a smattering of energy like the rock. Additionally, our energy (for the materialists: atoms and molecules) are constantly changing with the environment so that nearly all of you are different fr! om the c ollection of energy (or atoms) of months ago. Finally, quantum theory explains that the components of atoms are energy waves appearing in many places simultaneously and disappearing into other worlds before reappearing!

The illusion of time

What about our sense of time? Is time also an illusion? Yes. Einstein said, "For we convinced physicists, the distinction between past, present, and future is only an illusion, however, persistent." Physicists interpret Einstein's quotation by explaining that past, present, and future all exist in space-time. How can every moment of each of our lives be somewhere out there in space-time? It gets more bizarre.

Many scientists believe that we live in an infinite universe, and that all possible events are also out in space-time in parallel worlds. This seems like a fantastic statement. If all possible events exist, why couldn't some of these be our being in heaven?

Scientists postulate multiple or parallel universes to explain the slippery concepts of science, such as the quantum paradox and the space-time conundrum of all possible events existing. Ironically, in their attempt to find a non-spiritual solution to these mysteries, scientists propose theories that might be impossible to test or verify, thereby embracing what some might call faith. Science prides itself in having explanations that are verifiable, either through experimentation or by predicting future observations. Yet, it is unclear if multiple or parallel universes can ever be verified.

Our world is spiritual and mental

Is science's concept of time new? The ancient Eastern religions describe in their writings higher states of consciousness involving an experience of space and time similar to the teachings of modern physics. The Taoists and the Buddhists speak of awareness as an infinite, timeless, and dynamic present. Interestingly, both this spiritual perspective and the existence of parallel universes are unfalsifiable.

Our world is immaterial, and so are we. ! The imma terial bits of energy which make up us interact with energy from our world and create a video in our minds which portrays time, objects, and thoughts. We and our world are mental and spiritual.

Art and Practice of the Basics of Meditation in India

Posted: 20 May 2012 01:00 AM PDT

Article by Lily Candice

Most countries have a heritage and or a distinguishing element with which they have made themselves notable and referred to. India is not an exception and easily, cricket comes to mind as a national sporting activity which provides entertainment for millions and a form of recreation and exercise for many hundreds of thousands. However much as cricket is a recognizable Indian national pastime that contributes to the physical well being of a large number of its citizens, meditation in India has a more significant impact both within the country and extending its tentacles of influence all over the world. Meditation in India has been practiced for centuries with its roots in the ancient Buddhist religious practice which has since been developed over the years into a form that is applicable to anyone from whatever religious or social background. An example of the proponents of meditation in India as existing today is the Z Meditation center, based in Dharamsala in the serenely breathtaking Himalayas of India.Meditation may be simply described as a way of life through which the individual seeks a pristine freedom of the mind, resulting in a calm disposition characterized by feelings of love, peace and happiness. An individual living in such a state will be equipped to adequately deal effectively with any challenges of life and situations, circumstances and issues which are mostly certain to be a part of all of our lives. More than this, a person who imbibes the art and practice of the basics of meditation in India will find her self living a much more healthy existence as meditation has been scientifically proven to help us ward off most common ailments as a balanced mind will flow into a holistic state of health involving the spirit and the body as well. A person who diligently follows the methods of meditation in India practice will find physical and mental exertion quite easy and will be able to stretch both his mind and body to limits hitherto unreachable. The Z Meditation center approaches meditatio! n in Ind ia with the techniques of Deep Deconditioning Inquiry and Radiant Mantras, systems which have proven themselves to be very effective for thousands of adherents from all over the world, with written testimonials coming in all the time to this effect. Z Meditation conducts various activities such as meditation retreats, online meditation in India courses, and meditation books, to reach as many seekers of genuine freedom as may be possible.Meditation in India is a very simple practice to do and is available to anyone with a desire to live a life of complete awareness. It is important to note however that the experienced and established teachers of meditation in India practices will expect only genuine students who will be able to discipline themselves to the practice and be focused in their bid to attain real freedom and awareness of the mind, free from the conditionings and false beliefs most of us have grown up with.Meditation in India is not by any means an expensive deal and the cost of enrolling in a meditation online courses, buying meditation books or going on a meditation in India retreats are expenses which can easily fit into the budget of the greater percentage of all of us.

Meditation and Buddhism - An Introduction to How Buddhism Relates with Meditation

Posted: 20 May 2012 12:00 AM PDT

Article by Amy C.

Meditation is the self-employed practice of relaxing the body and calming the mind by reflecting deeply on a subject. Some of its core health benefits are that maintains ideal blood pressure, and relives stress and tension. Buddhists meditate using different kinds of meditation techniques to develop mindfulness and concentration that transform their quality of life.

There is no magic, no mysteries or any stimulant used in Buddhism meditation. It is self reliant and deals only with the reality of everyday life and human conscience. The condition of life where a person is in serves as the reason for meditation and does not need any special instrument. It does not also involve any rites or cult rituals. It only requires the commitment and desire to feel the need for enlightenment.

Why do Buddhists Meditate?

While meditation is a popular way of getting relaxed and providing the good feeling; there are some definite reasons and objectives for meditation.

Buddhists meditate to focus on the following:

- Nibbana- The End of Suffering- The Realization of Positive Feelings- Non-attachment- Insight- Concentration

Here's the brief explanation of each and every aspect of Buddhist Meditation.

1.) Nibbana- Is considered the highest level of mental clarity. It is the destruction and extinction of all sufferings. It is only experienced by those who have reached the ultimate maturity, both morally and psychologically.

2.) The End of Suffering- Giving up and abandonment of greed, hatred, delusion, anger and other negative feelings which are the source of suffering. Gaining experience and understanding will get one out of discomfort brought about by anger.

3.) The Realization of Positive Feelings - Love, compassion, mental purity, composure and happiness are being enhanced through bringing joy to other people. This provides meaningful, wholesome and fulfilling experiences and eliminates the foundation for anger.

4.) Non-attachment promotes freedom from wanti! ng and d esire for bodily gratification. The passion for pleasures makes one a slave. The psychological freedom means non-attachment and composure.

5.) Insight- Buddhist meditation involves two meanings for insight. Vipassana- which means awareness of the dharma. Impermanence- meaning everything changes and does not remain the same. Nothing in creation is permanent, all things are temporary therefore sorrows and suffering always exist.

6.) Concentration- Building the ability to focus on a subject while ignoring the surrounding for a period of time to overcome the mind's ordinary ways of diverting from one subject to another. Concentration is an early goal of meditation for Buddhist.

Don't be surprised if only a small fraction of Buddhist followers practice meditation regularly, because it depends on their free will on when to meditate. It may be now or later.

Picturing Spiritual & Scientific Reality: Healing the Rift Bridging the Gap

Posted: 19 May 2012 10:00 PM PDT

Article by Leo Kim

Picturing Virtual Reality

Tommie, playing with his computer, asked me: "how does all that stuff get on the screen?"

"The stuff is due to individual dots called pixels. Together, they create the image.""What are pixels?"

I explained that pixels are created by bits of energy. This energy creates the individual pixels.

"So the stuff I see is just energy.""Not quite," I told him. "The stuff you see is created by energy."

"Cool! So if I have energy, I can create the stuff on the screen?"

"Well, you need one other critical item. You need information to instruct the energy how to create the images. So, yes, with energy and the right information, all that stuff can be created."

"Then what's that box for?"

"That box is the computer that transforms the energy coming from the wall through the cord. It uses information and energy to create all that stuff."

"Awesome!"

I find it awesome that all the "stuff" of our world is believed by scientists to come about through energy transformed by information! But the explanation is far more complex than the one I provided Tommie.

Picturing Scientific Reality

The pixels on computer screens change (or "refresh") about 80 times/second. The pixels which make up us and our world change a billion, trillion, trillion, trillion times/second. I call these upixels (universal pixels). Scientists don't know their make up other than it is a form of energy-they can't even agree on its name. What is the size of the upixels? If the size of a proton were enlarged to the size of the Milky Way these upixels would be the size of a dust particle!

In the case of a computer, as the colored pixels disappear and reappear, we perceive movement which creates the virtual reality. The upixels making up our world are controlled by information. Upixels disappear and before reappearing might move to other universes and dimensions before creating our reality. Does all this seem bizarre? It gets worse, in the last decade sc! ientists realize that 96% of the upixels are missing! Imagine your computer screen with 96% of the pixels missing. Needless to say scientists' picture of reality is an inscrutable image.

Picturing Spiritual Reality

Spiritual and religious teachings generally agree that we humans cannot picture reality, which usually includes God. In general, religions teach that God and mystical reality are different from what we experience in ordinary consciousness.

Jesus, according to the Gnostic script Gospel of Thomas 113, said, "The kingdom of the Father is spread out upon the Earth, and men do not see it." Buddhists believe that it is impossible to understand the world through our senses, philosophies, or science. Judaism agrees that we cannot comprehend God. The Sufis of Islam teach that metaphors and symbols cannot reveal the divine. According to Hinduism, maya is the illusion of reality in which we live. Taoism and Confucianism, although in many ways different, both hold that reality is beyond human comprehension. How do we resolve these seemingly different pictures of science and spirituality?

Merging the Pictures and Healing the Rift

Let's combine the two pictures. Let's accept upixels as the fundamental stuff of our world and fill an ocean with them. Instead of water this ocean is filled with upixels. It is a bottomless ocean extending infinitely in all directions. We and our world are but one wave on the surface. We are lost in the multitude of all the other waves and wonder: What was the origin of our wave? What is our wave? What happens when our wave ceases to exist?

Our wave began with the creation of the upixels. However, no one knows when, how, or why the upixels were created. The upixels are energy, so all the waves are an illusion. They are immaterial energy. The ocean is an illusion for it also is merely upixels, energy. There is so much we do not know about this world. We don't know where the upixels go when they disappear. We don't know where the new upixels come fro! m when t hey zip into our world for an instant. We can neither fathom an infinitely deep and extensive ocean, nor comprehend the meaning of other dimensions or worlds. We perceive only a trillionth of what our world is, so we focus on our wave that is within our perceptive capacity. We have splintered into factions, each faction believing that they understand our wave, know what caused the formation of our wave, and comprehend what happens when our wave ceases to exist.

But the ancient sages and spiritual leaders teach us that all of this is truly beyond our comprehension. They speak of the essence of our wave surviving forever, long after it disappears. They agree that, somehow, energy creates our reality. They agree that we are one with nature and everything in the universe. They agree that our immaterial essence survives death.

I find it essential to keep both pictures in mind.

Your spiritual experience means nothing to me

Posted: 19 May 2012 10:00 PM PDT

Experience. A wonderful word. So important. It's all that we have, really. Experience. Without it, we're nothing. Dead. Unconscious.

So saith the Merriam-Webster dictionary.

1 a : direct observation of or participation in events as a basis of knowledge
b : the fact or state of having been affected by or gained knowledge through direct observation or participation
a : practical knowledge, skill, or practice derived from direct observation of or participation in events or in a particular activity
   b : the length of such participation <has 10 years'experience in the job>

a : the conscious events that make up an individual life
b : the events that make up the conscious past of a community or nation or humankind generally

4: something personally encountered, undergone, or lived through

5: the act or process of directly perceiving events or reality

But note key words in the various definitions of "experience" above. Direct. Conscious. Individual. Personally.

Experience isn't communal.

The only experience each of us will ever know is our own. In my 63 years of experiencing, I've never directly, consciously, personally known another individual's experience. Not another human's. Not another animal's. Not another anything's.

And neither has anyone else. The only clues we get to someone else's experience are those which enter our own experience.

Spouses talk to each other about how their days went. People write autobiographies which attempt to convey what it's been like to live their life. Movies give us insights into how other individuals, often utterly unlike us, experience the world. Intimate conversations are attempts to bridge the ultimately unbridgeable gap between I and other.

I'm interested in other people's experiences. We all are. It's lonely existing solely inside our own heads. We long for the expanded vistas that can be seen through descriptions and depictions of how others view reality.

Here's the thing, though:

If there's essentially a zero possibility that I could ever experience what you've experienced; if your experience is so subjective, so personal, so individual that it has essentially no connection with any experience I could possibly have, it means essentially nothing to me.

I'm not saying you mean nothing to me. Just that your utterly subjective, personal, individual experience means nothing to me.

For example... the dreams that my wife often tells me about when she wakes up in the morning. I care about them because I care about my wife. But I know that what she experienced in her dream never will be experienced by me.

Likewise... the descriptions of spiritual experiences that people share in comments on this blog, or in so many other ways elsewhere. (There's a whole publishing genre of books about experiencing the presence of God, Jesus, angels, heaven, and other divine presences.)

I'm interested in these descriptions of spiritual experiences to just about the same extent I'm interested in descriptions of other people's dreams.

I enjoy learning about how other people describe their subjective inner world. However, since that world is completely different from my own experience, otherwise it doesn't hold any interest for me. I'll never experience someone else's dream, and I'll never experience what someone else considers to be "spritual" -- if it is supernatural.

Of course, the difference between dreams and spiritual experiences is that many people feel the latter point to an objective truth. God, heaven, a higher dimension of reality, whatever.

OK. Some people (like Jungians) also feel that dreams can be pointers toward universal archetypes, or clues about truths lying beyond everyday waking awareness. I'm open to the possibility that both dreams and spiritual experiences are something more than the result of subjective brain processes.

Without evidence of this, though, I have to assume that someone else's heartfelt vision of divinity means as much to me as the dream they had last night. Which is, nothing.

Again: if there's essentially zero connection between what you're experiencing, and what it's possible for me to experience, why should I care about your experience? Remember, I can care about you, because your obvious physical nature is part of my own experience; but your purely subjective experiences are closed off from me.

This morning I came across an inspiring, interesting, intriguing You Tube video called "Make It Count." It shows two guys racing around the world, having all sorts of experiences that, almost certainly, I never will have myself.

Nor, mostly, would I want to have. (One exception: taking photos of lovely bikini-clad girls on a beach.)

Yet nothing prevents me from going to the places these guys went to. If I did that, naturally I wouldn't have the same experiences they did. After all, they are themselves, and I am me. However, there would be a connection between their experiences and my own.

I could stand on the edge of the high cliff shown in the video, wondering if I could survive a jump into the water. I'd see the rocks, hear the sound of the ocean, feel the sea breeze brush across my face.

That's a lot more connection between their experiences and my own, compared to someone's utterly subjective experience of sensing the presence of Jesus while in a church, or of divine light/sound while in a guru's meditation session.

In one case there is a there for me to experience; in the other, there isn't.

So if you share a personal spiritual experience in a comment on this blog, or in some other fashion, please realize that I understand how meaningful that experience probably was to you. In return, you should realize that I'm not you, nor you me.

And when it comes to dreams or spiritual experiences, never will the twains of you and me meet. With other sorts of experiences we can look at each other and say, "Wow, did you see that?" Not with purely subjective experiences, though.

Which is why they mean nothing to me, if those experiences aren't mine.

Migraine researchers offer Buddhist meditation sessions

Posted: 19 May 2012 09:00 PM PDT

The practice of mindfulness may help to relieve chronic or recurrent headache, according to Galway-based scientists seeking recruits to test the theory.

The Centre for Pain Research at NUI Galway is recruiting people with chronic or recurrent daily headaches to take part in an online pain management programme.

The study offers individuals with chronic daily headache the opportunity to avail of six online sessions of mindfulness training tailored specifically for headache pain by Dr Jonathan Egan, Lecturer in Clinical Psychology, NUI Galway.

The sessions, which are free of charge, will focus on active self-management, instruction in a range of relaxation techniques, coping skills and cognitive behavioural therapy techniques (CBT) to help identify negative thinking and coping patterns. The overall technique being used is known as a mindfulness-based pain management programme, and it is hoped mindfulness training may offer some relief to people with recurrent headache.

Unlike other chronic pain patients, people suffering chronic or recurrent headache are an under-researched population. Prevalence rates indicate 12-15% of the Irish population suffer from migraine alone. The disability and productivity lost as a result of severe headache can be significant.

The online programme is part of a research project being carried out at NUI Galway by Angeline Traynor who is the principal researcher: "We know that a combination of psychological and mindfulness techniques are beneficial, particularly for people managing chronic or recurrent pain. Our intention is to see whether this approach can also work for people with chronic headache pain.

This online setting is particularly fitting for individuals with chronic headache as it may be accessed at their convenience for the purpose of prevention, and management. The programme layout is modular to ensure ease of use and time efficiency for busy individuals who would like to log on and receive additional support in managing their pain."

The researchers are specifically interested in hearing from people who have chronic daily headache (CDH), defined as chronic head pain which occurs on 15 or more days per month over a period of three to four months and this includes tension-type headache, migraine and medication overuse headache.

Dr Egan said: "Many people find that the combination of cognitive and relaxation therapies which are offered in this headache management programme enable them to take back control of their lives and engage more in daily activities with the knowledge they have the tools necessary to better manage their pain. This project is hoping to establish if mindfulness training may be delivered effectively in an online format to help these individuals.

The programme is designed to be accessible to all people who have a computer. Patients can continue with their normal treatments while also taking part in the study. GPs, physiotherapists, friends and family are encouraged to refer interested individuals to participate.
