Wrinkles are a part of the ageing process; while some may show wrinkles very early, there are some lucky ones who only have a few wrinkles to testify to their age. Nevertheless, it is possible to delay or minimize the onset of wrinkles by making certain lifestyle changes as well as taking the help of various products available in the market.

Since time immemorial people have been trying out various homemade potions and concoctions to improve the texture of their skin and to minimize wrinkles. What is the Difference Between Eastern and Christian Meditation?

With meditation being prescribed by doctors to relieve stress and spiritual leaders touting meditation as a way of spiritual growth, more and more Christians are becoming interested in this practice but are concerned as to whether it goes against their Christian faith. However, Christian and eastern meditation is very different in both their objectives and methods.

Eastern meditation is actually more common throughout the world than Christian meditation. Eastern meditation isn't just something Buddhists do, it requires no belief in any sort of god, it does not require that you follow any specific belief system. Eastern meditation is much more of a personal experience than it is a religious experience.

Eastern meditation is often used as a path to spiritual enlightenment, but doesn't necessarily prescribe to any particular affiliation. Regardless of your religious or non-religious tradition, individuals can attain the same personal benefits from meditation while embracing their own paths of spirituality.

The method of meditation is where the two forms differ most. In Eastern meditation, one empties the mind. You empty your mind, you think nothing, essentially, and allow yourself to simply be, to just exist. Western culture is very goal oriented, and this is reflected in everything from meditation to religion to art. Look at Asian films, paintings, music and comic books, and there's more focus on "being" rather than "doing".

This can be helpful for anyone of Eastern or Western descent alike, as it allows you to take a moment to simply appreciate life for what it is, to appreciate simply being, the gift of having been born or just being a child of God. For a Christian, this can even help one become closer to God by just taking in the gifts God has laid out for us, not trying to figure it out or understand it, but just to appreciate it and experience it, to allow the experience to flow through you rather than to be analyzed and studied and contemplated.

Christian meditati! on is mo re goal-oriented. It has to do with, specifically, finding a closer understanding of God and a closer understanding of self. It's much more structured in terms of method.

A major component of Christian meditation is to reflect on the love, peace, provision, and goodness as well as the Word of God. This is also not a component of Eastern meditation.

For a Christian, meditating on God can be rewarding and life changing. Meditation can be contemplative (meditating on scripture, attributes of God, or a sacred word), for relaxation (to let go of stress and anxiety), or the practice of just abiding, waiting, and soaking in God's presence.

Although different in both nature and practice, they have something integral in common. For the Christian, meditation helps you to find a deeper appreciation of the waking life, of yourself and can draw you closer to the Lord. By learning to meditate on God and quiet your mind, you give the Lord greater opportunity to speak to and guide you by his still small voice. Christians don't empty their mind in meditation, but give their attention to the love, peace, and wisdom of God. Complete understanding of God is inherently impossible, but these methods of meditation can bring you ever closer to Him and to a better understanding of oneself. Meditation allows us to worship God in Spirit and in truth.

The art of meditation is often thought of by some people as a religious practice because of its spiritual aspects. With a little effort and practice, it is an art that is quite easily taught and can be done by anyone.

What Can Guided Meditation Do For Me?

Learning to meditate is very beneficial to the mind and body, both spiritually and physically.. It is pure relaxation, of consciously and voluntarily being able to relax your mind, your spirit and your body. Meditation and guided meditations are implemented everywhere because of the spiritual and physical gains associated with but not limited to controlling stress, improving concentration, curing disease and developing one's relaxation response.

You Can Meditate Anywhere.

One advantage of meditation is that you do not need any equipment or much room to do it. All you need is enough space for you. The main objective in meditation or guided meditations is to completely relax. So, the first thing that you need to do is find a spot where you can get into a comfortable position. Find a location with no distractions, and avoid lying down and becoming too comfortable, you might fall asleep. A comfortable seated position is probably best.

Once you are comfortable take inventory of your body. Start focusing on different body parts. Starting at your head work your way down, paying particular attention to your problem areas. Take the time to feel the areas affected by tension, breathe fully and slowly and let your body relax. This first session should take between 3 and 10 minutes. That is all there is to taking your first steps in meditation. Like all things "practice makes perfect". So, if you are serious about guided meditations, it is really in your best interest to seek advice and instruction from a relia! ble sour ce.

Guided Meditations Will Produce Better Results

As the name suggests, guided meditations are simply meditation sessions with instructions. These instructions may be in form of online courses, books, videos, audio files or tapes, or a personal instructor. No matter which method you decide upon, you will see greater results in a shorter period of time with guided meditations.

It would be great to have a personal mentor that was an expert in the art of meditation to teach us, but that would be very costly. Another option to learn meditation is to go online and download what we need. If you have never searched the internet for guided meditations or instruction, you might be somewhat overwhelmed by the amount of material out there, and how many different ways there are to get it. The best way to review meditation methods is to visit a guided meditation review site and compare the popular programs

Online video and/or audio tutorials and guides are the way to go. Buddhist centre plans for derelict Southampton pub

A Zen Buddhism group is trying to turn a boarded up derelict Southampton pub into a meditation centre.

The Plume of Feathers Pub in the St Mary's area of the city has been boarded up for several months.

The Triratna Zen Buddhism Order's Southampton group has submitted a planning application to develop the pub in St Mary Street.

Leader Dharma Modna declined to comment on the proposal until the planning application had been heard.

Local councillor Sarah Bogle said: "I think it's a really novel idea.

Sacred Geometry

Sacred geometry is geometry used in the design of sacred architecture and sacred art. The basic belief is that geometry and mathematical ratios, harmonics and proportion are also found in music, light, cosmology. This value system is seen as widespread even in prehistory, a cultural universal of the human condition. It is considered foundational to building sacred structures such as temples, mosques, megaliths, monuments and churches; sacred spaces such as altars, temenoi and tabernacles; meeting places such as sacred groves, village greens and holy wells and the creation of religious art, iconography and using "divine" proportions. Alternatively, sacred geometry based arts may be ephemeral, such as visualization, sandpainting and medicine wheels. Sacred geometry may be understood as a worldview of pattern recognition, a complex system of religious symbols and structures involving space, time and form. According to this belief the basic patterns of existence are perceived as sacred. By connecting with these, a believer contemplates the Mysterium Magnum, and the Great Design. By studying the nature of these patterns, forms and relationships and their connections, insight may be gained into the mysteries the laws and lore of the Universe. Many forms observed in nature can be related to geometry (for sound reasons of resource optimization). The descent

From my own previous spiritual experiences I learned that we are not  easily drawn to seek the truth rather, to use a line from the English poet Wordsworth, "We are more like a man / Flying from something he dreads."  It is in this flying that some of us imagine we are seeking something profound.  

The heights to which we fly only cause our fears to grow when looking down we see beneath us a frightening and growing void.  How strange!  But descend into it we must if it is truth we are seeking.  The upward flight is only more of the same.  It is samsara.

My earliest recollection of my meditation was to slowly allow myself to descend into this void, into a place I did not know, passing through my hesitation and anxiety.

At the time, I did not see or know that by descending into this void, I was gradually passing beyond my psychophysical organism which was a container of anguish (duhkha).  As I meditated more and more like this I become more comfortable descending into this voidness.  It was maybe two months later that I had my first direct glimpse into pure Mind having come to the limit of this voidness, or should I say, having come to the limit of this barrenness. 

It was as if I bored a tiny hole through the phenomenal field in front of me, including even my thoughts.  Only pure light came through this tiny hole, a light I could only sense as the power to animate by temporal body which it did to an astonishing degree.  Hitherto, my world was one of darkness insofar as temporality is barren and void.  The world we perceive is like an echo or a shadow.  It has no depth.  It's only a configuration of pure Mind and nothing in itself.

The law of Karma in yoga is the central idea in the philosophy of yoga. In Bhagavad Gita, Shree Krishna had told his disciple Arjuna about some most important karma sutra required in a yogic life. According to Lord Krishna, yoga is the universal concept of reaping what you sow with your words and actions. Person gets credit of his own work; he must take responsibility of what he does. What is the karma quotes connected to a yogi, a spiritual performer? This question is often generated in people's mind. Let's reply this quest in simple intonation. Karma means thoughts; behaviors, actions as well as intentions created in the present time, which is under your control, whatever you create today either good or bad all are under Karma Yoga. Yoga is therefore a word with a broad meaning in this sense. Your deeds furnished with your willpower and concentration comes under karma of today. And the law of karma is that what you create today is seed for future life experiences. In this mean, fatalism is avoided, only karma is considered supreme in human life. The law of karma is always connected to the continuously changing physical world. This solely depends upon deeds rather than fate. We have full control upon our words what we spell, thoughts what we ruminate, and actions which we decide to do. A perfect Yogi who has brought his mind and emotions under the control of his wit can indeed do control of what is happening with him. So, our response and reactions with our environment can be managed in order to avoid future evil sufferings, this is true that we can reduce karma at present and accordingly minimize those sufferings in future. Life and death are within a cycle and this cosmic cycle is continuously spinning. This spinning wheel has 6 spokes: virtue, vice, aversion, attachment, pleasure and pain. These spokes are means of karma which bind us with the wheel of life and keep it spinning. At this point it is worthwhile to indicate that mental attachments connecting those spokes with wheel should be libe! rated fo r renunciation of our life. Then, the life would be without credits of karma. In this way, a yogi lives with deeds but without credits of deeds. Bad karma gives us bad feeling, good karma gives us good feeling but the law of karma says that any kind of karma is undesirable. Through the constant practice of yoga, any further accumulation of karma should be reduced. This means do not produce karma with ego, selfishness and any desire of reward. Liberation from karma and this worldly pain and pleasure is a highly esteemed state called Nirvana. All above mentioned law of karma are not necessary in an individual life. Only you need to do is reducing your desire of karma and purifying you with yogic lifestyle.

Scholars consider Dolpo to be the last resource of the original (animistic) Tibetan tradition preserved in the world where we can see the proto pre-Buddhist Tibetan culture, which Buddhists suppressed in other areas of the Himalayas (Tibet).

The founder of Bonpo (Yungdrung Bรถn) is Tonpa Shenrab mibo, who was born in ancient kingdom of Zhang Zhung. Dolpo, too, was part of this kingdom. Bonpo followers believe that their founder, Tonpa Shenrab mibo - an enlightened master like Buddha, came to Tibet from Shambala (Tagzig Olmo Lung Ring) some 18,000 years ago. Adherents of Bonpo also believe that Tonpa Shenrab mibo had a strong influence on Hinduism, as the Zhang Zhung kingdom was centered on the Mount Kailash, the Lord Shiva's mountain.

Bonpo (Yungdrung Bรถn) is different from Buddhism. It consists of "nine Bonpo ways" or "thegpa gu". The religion believes in karma and reincarnation like Buddhism, but instead of the Buddha's Four Noble Truths the emphasis is put on thegpa gu. Yum Chen Sherab Chamma is the Goddess of Bonpo and Shenlha Wodkar is her counterpart. Bonpo has three basic forms - 1) the prehistoric shamanistic-like form, 2) Yungdrung Bรถn - the svastika dharma, or an elaborated teaching system to achieving Total Completeness or Dzogchen, and 3) its more modern form which drew many of its teachings from Buddhism, so many scholars consider this third Bonpo school to be nothing else than just a form of the Tibetan Buddhism.

Yungdrung Bรถn has its lamas, its teachings, its literature, and it found its way to other countries, too.

In Yungdrung Bรถn, the Buddhas are not the Buddhist ones. The name "Buddha" simply implies that a person titled thus was enlightened. However, in the modern Bonpo school, which is a part of the Tibetan Buddhism, the Yungdrung Bon Buddhas are considered to be the previous enlightened forms of th! e Buddha . Buddhists have a legend that before Buddha first appeared as Gautama Buddha in about the year 563 BCE, he had manifested himself several times before.

The culture of Zhang Zhung, Shang Shung or Xang Xung had its center near the Mount Kailash and it extended to the present near-Kashmir area in India (Ladak). Its capitol was Kyunglung, the silver Garuda. The kingdom fell in about the year 800 AD, but may have lasted many centuries before Christ.

Buddhism arrived to Tibet around the 7th century after Christ. On the Yeru Bon Center website you will learn that Buddhists destroyed much of the Bonpo culture in Tibet. They also persecuted followers of the Bonpo religion. This is probably an answer that no religion is a cure. The cure is, "not doing things that make you a Buddhist, Hindu or Bonpo, but that make you the best in everything you choose to do".

3. Nichiren is a form of popular Buddhism. Its founder, Nichiren, was a monk of militant and nationalistic spirit. He taught that one should have absolute faith in the eternal Sakyamuni Buddha, that the only true doctrine was the teaching of the Saddharmapunฺdฺarika sutra, and that peace and happiness both of the individuals and of the nation could be achieved only by the practice of this true teaching. Its followers are taught to keep devotion to the Sutra and to turn the teaching into practice by repeating the words: Namu Myo Horengekyo - Homage to the Lotus Sutra of the Wonderful Law. Nichiren attacked all other sects by declaring their doctrines and practices to be false and dangerous to the welfare of the country. He and his sect came into violent conflict with them and suffered serious troubles through persecution. In spite of this, the sect continued to grow. Its founder and followers even believed that its teaching would be accepted all over the world.

With the rise of these new sects, Buddhism was completely accepted by the Japanese people. If the Heian period marked the nationalization of Buddhism in Japan, it was during the Kamakura period that the popularization of Buddhism was achieved. Then Buddhist temples were erected in most of the small towns and villages. Though many subsects have appeared within the old sects, especially after World War II, no new major Buddhist sect has been founded in Japan since that time.

After the Kamakura period, the seat of shogunate was moved to Kyoto. In spite of civil wars and natural disasters, cultural leadership was maintained by Buddhist monks, especially those of Zen, and thearts flourished as never before. The influence of Zen found its expression in the development of the tea ceremony, flower arrangement, No drama, garden making, painting and other works of art, and also of Judo, Kendo and Bushido, which is the ethical code of the samurai.

The Suppression of BuddhismConstant internal wars and disorder during the period of ! about on e hundred years beginning with the rebellion of B.E. 2010 (1467 C.E.) brought to an end most of the great families of the former periods and brought about the rise of some new powerful families and great social changes. Priests and monks were engaged in warfare and battle either to protect themselves or to gain power. There were also many conflicts between religious groups such as the followers of Nichiren, those of Shinran and the monk soldiers of Tendai. They even took sides with some feudal lords against the other. Therefore, when Portuguese Christian missionaries came to Japan in about B.E. 2100 (1557 C.E.), Nobunaga, then the most powerful man in Japan, encouraged their activities. Nobunaga even attacked the monastic armies on Mount Hiei, burned about 3,000 monasteries and killed all of their inhabitants. Though he could not defeat the abbot Kennyo of Osaka and both parties had to accept an agreement, the political and military power of the monasteries declined and never recovered. The influence of Japanese Buddhism has never reached a high degree of strength since then.

The government support to Christianity, however, did not last long, for the quarrels between the Portuguese and the Spanish priests and between the Spanish and the Dutch priests which broke out between B.E. 2136 and 2154 made the ruler conscious of the danger of Christian priests as a political machine. This led to the persecution of the Christians and, finally, to the adoption of the exclusion policy in B.E. 2167 (1624 C.E.). In order to put an end to the influence of Christianity and to use the influence of Buddhism for its own benefit, the government turned to Buddhism, brought the Buddhist institutions under strict state control, and made them useful in maintaining its power. Moreover, Confucianism was greatly encouraged. Thus, Buddhist institutions weakened and their intellectual activities declined. While the people turned to worldly pleasures and sought material wealth, the temples encouraged these through the rites and! beliefs which satisfied worldly ends, and the monks and priests themselves adopted lives of indolence and negligence. Thus, throughout the Tokugawa or Edo period (B.E. 2146 - 2410/ 1603- 1867 C.E.), during which the capital was established at Edo or Tokyo, there was no significant development in Japanese Buddhism and it was during : his period that there arose a movement to make Shinto the national eligion of Japan.

The modernization of Japan started with the beginning of the Meiji period in B.E. 2411 (1868 C.E.) when the power and administration was restored from the shogun to the emperor, the policy of national seclusion came to an end, and Western culture was freely imported and imitated. Then, to affirm the supreme power of the emperor by his divinity and to strengthen nationalism, Shinto was separated from Buddhism and established as the national religion. Buddhist beliefs and worship were forbidden in the Imperial Household. There was even a movement called Haibutsu Kishaku to eradicate Buddhism in Japan. It was a time of crisis for Buddhism, though it was able to some degree to recover its strength and the government had to soften its anti-Buddhist policy.

The Break-up of Cambodia and Cambodian Buddhism

Cambodia has also shared the same Buddhist tradition with Thailand and Laos, since the beginning of her modern history. According to the statistics of a year during the 1960s, there were 2,750 monasteries with about 70,000 to 80,000 monks and novices in residence.1 There monks and novices might be either temporary or permanent as they enjoyed the practice of freely entering and leaving the monkhood under the ordination-for-learning tradition which was characteristic also of Thailand and Laos. As in Thailand, there were two denominations or Sub-Orders of the Cambodian Sangha. One was the original order which was later called Mahanikaya to distinguish it from the newly-founded denomination of the Dhammayut. The other, the Dhammayut, was the Sub-Order introduced from Thailand in the last Buddhist century. There were two Patriarchs, one for each of the two denominations.

The Cambodian Sangha appeared to be active in education. Efforts were made to modernize the ecclesiastical education. A Pali High School was founded in Phnom Penh in 2457/1914, which was later transformed into a college. Around the year 2499/1956, arrangements were made for the establishment of the Buddhist University of Phra Sihanu-Raja (The Universite Bouddhique Preah Sihanouk) which began functioning in 2504/1961. The Buddhist Institute of Phnom Penh was also founded to carry out the programmes of propagating Buddhism and Cambodian culture. A Tripitฺaka Board was appointed a few decades ago for the publication of the Canon tohether with its Cambodian translation in 110 volumes. During the 1960s, monks were encouraged to participate in various nation-building programmes. By involving monks in educational and community-welfare projects, it was hoped that the traditional leadership and teaching role of the monks would be strengthened. Primary-school instruction was provided at temple schools throughout the provinces. Monks were engaged in the improvement of village life, leading the peasants in the construction of country road! s and br idges and supervising well-digging. Prince Sihanouk was then active in expounding his social gospel of Buddhist Socialism. In the early years of the 1970s, however, political unrest developed in Cambodia, monks and monasteries as well as the people suffered from battles and warfare, and the Buddhist activities were put into obscurity.

In 2498/1955, Prince Narodom Sihanouk abdicated the throne in favour of his father and remained premier to fill a more active political role. When his father died in 2503/1960, Prince Sihanouk, without returning to the throne, became the country's first chief of state. In the face of the Vietnam war, he tried to maintain Cambodia's neutrality. Then, on March 18, 2513/1970, while he was out of the country, his government was overthrown in a pro-Western coup led by Lt.Gen. Lon Nol. Almost suddenly began a long war between the U.S. supplied government troops and the North Vietnamese and Vietcong (gradually replaced, from 2513/1970 to 2516/1973, by the Hanoi-backed native Cambodian Communist insurgents called the Khmer Rouge).

The five-year war ended in April 2518/1975 as the Government surrendered and the Khmer Rouge entered Phnom Penh. Under a new constitution, a State Presidium was established, headed by Pol Pot. Refugees, who escaped to Thailand in thousands, reported that all cities, including Phnom Penh swollen at that time by 2 million refugees, had been evacuated and almost all the inhabitants were forcibly moved to rural areas and put to work in the rice fields or in the jungle where new farm settlements were to be founded. In addition to the long forced marches, they spoke of starvation and wholesale killings. From 2518/1975 through 2521/1978, about 3 or 4 million Cambodians are estimated to have died under the brutality of Pol Pot's regime. The two patriarchs of the two Sub-Orders of the Cambodian Sangha are also reported dead though the causes of their death are still unclear.

In April 2524/1981, a senior Cambodian monk, who is the spiritual leader! of seve ral Cambodian communities of refugees in the United States, gave an address in the City Hall of the City of Boston, saying, "... As you know, more than one third of Cambodia's people were killed in the past ten years, including almost all of Cambodia's 80,000 Buddhist monks...."

In 2521/1978, border clashes with Vietnam developed again. On January 9, 2522/1979, Phnom Penh fell to the Hanoi-backed People's Revolutionary Council of Cambodia headed by Heng Samrin who took over as president of the People's Republic of Kampuchea. Pol Pot forces retreated to the countryside. Fighting still continues, as surely as the increase of the deaths of the Cambodians and the ravage of Cambodia, and will certainly last long as the retreating Democratic Kampuchea government, now with Khieu Samphan replacing Pol Pot as head of state, is prepared to join with all Nationalist forces in a common front to expel the so-called Vietnamese invaders.

Buddhism in Contemporary Thailand

The beginning of a separation in the period of modernizationBuddhism in Thailand reached the modern period under warm support of the king and the people, without the interruption of colonial persecution or suppression. Side by side with the people, the monks came into encounter with Western civilization. Hand in hand with the secular government the monkhood started on modernization. Under King Chulalongkorn (Rama V; 2411-53/1868-1910) the structure of the secular government was changed to adopt a new pattern and a modern Western system of public education was introduced. With the assistance of the King's half-brother, the Monk-prince Vajirananฺa-Varorasa, who later became a supreme patriarch, an important role in public education was assigned to the monks, a new form of ecclesiastical government was established, and a foundation was laid for the modernization of ecclesiastical set of the Pali Canon, known as the Royal Siamese Tripitฺaka. A royal library was erected for the preservation of Buddhist sacred books and rare scriptures. Two royal Buddhist academies, Mahamakut and Mahachulalongkorn, were founded with a plan to function in due course as Sangha colleges or universities providing for monks and novices advanced Buddhist studies along with modern higher education.

With the end of the reign of King. Chulalongkorn, things changed for the worse. The process of modernization continued on the part of the secular sector, but on the ecclesiastical side it was kept going for only a short period of time and then waned. The monkhood was put in a losing position. Monks were retired from their role in public education, though most of the public schools were still housed in monastery compounds and the monks still collected donations for the building of these schools. Preliminary arrangements for modern higher Buddhist education were set aside and the plans were not undertaken. Without open suppression, there was no urge to activity. The monks fell into inactivity and became attached to tradition! alism. B eing deprived of their deserved responsibility, they became underemployed and many developed the habit of idleness, living only on the rich inheritance of traditional popular support.

A WIDENING GAP BETWEEN THE TRADITIONAL SANGHA AND THE MODERN INTELLECTUALSFor the Thai public, an encounter with the West did not mean a reaction against it, as in the countries that were once under colonial rule. But, on the contrary, it meant an eagerness to learn and to imitate. Strong nationalism, with which Buddhism as a national cultural heritage is usually identified, also has not been widely developed and cannot be relied upon as a wall against Western secularism. People who first found access to modern technology of the West, usually those in urban areas and the intellectuals, identified themselves with Western thought and culture. In doing this, they gradually isolated themselves from the traditional Thai society, a term which was usually used to refer to the backward rural areas and the uneducated or the old-fashioned. One who tried not to be isolated sometimes found himself a man of twin personalities: a traditional Thai and a Westernized modern Thai. For these people Buddhist institutions were associated with the traditional Thai society or, at least, the traditional personality, and Buddhism was identified with traditional cultural activities. Thus, Buddhism made itself accessible only to one part or one half of Thai society, the less privileged and waning half. Buddhism and the modern Thai society gradually isolated themselves from each other. Thai Buddhism has put itself in a more and more narrowed confinement. The monkhood finds no place in the intelligentsia except for a few individual monks. They have lost intellectual leadership or leadership in the modernized sector of Thai society. Under the modern Westernized system of education, Thai youth have to a large extent been alienated from Buddhism and also, to a lesser extent, from traditional Thai culture. Thailand's modern system of education is som! etimes a ccused of being education for Westernization or education for alienation of Thai youth.

To the traditional Thai society and to the traditional personality of a modern Thai, Buddhism usually takes the form of merit-making acts and Buddhist festivals and ceremonies. To the old-fashioned or the more traditional, this usually extends to include the faithful observance of some basic rules of morality. Few of the later traditional Buddhists, however, have intellectual knowledge of the Buddha's teachings or care to learn about them. The majority of them are given to celebrations and temple fairs and festivals. Superstition and astrology still play an important part in their lives, both individual and social. Monks themselves for the most part focus their attention only on monastic affairs inside the Wat and place emphasis on the construction of monastic buildings. They are usually seen blessing religious ceremonies by chanting or ceremonial preaching and inducing the adherents to make donations for a monastic building. Optimistically, however, in rural areas, social leadership of the monks is still maintained. Monasteries remain, to a large extent, centres of social life of the communities. Monks still play traditional roles helping people towards their well-being, both spiritual and temporal. The monkhood still serves the society as a main source of social mobility and provides much for the lessening of the unequality of opportunity in education. But, unfortunately, these roles are rarely played on a conscious level and there is a fear of losing them.

A course can be described as a series of lessons on a particular subject aimed at allowing the student to imbibe practicable knowledge of the said subject. Understanding hypnosis begins with understanding the difference between the CONSCIOUS mind and the SUB CONSCIOUS mind.

The CONSCIOUS mind operates in that world of things that exist, or that it PERCEIVES to exist. The job of the conscious mind is to act on information it receives from the sub conscious mind and to make sure that information becomes reality and true. The SUB CONSCIOUS mind, on the other hand, only understands and acts on what it is told. The sub conscious does not care if the information it receives is true or not. It does not make judgments on the validity of the information it receives, nor does it try to distort or change the information in any way. The sub conscious simply accepts information it receives as factual and is the underlying mind engine that feeds and creates the reality of the conscious mind.When you truly grasp this concept, it's easy to see why many people have so much trouble attaining goals they set for themselves. A person may set a goal of losing 20 pounds of excess weight in time for the summer bathing suit season. This is a CONSCIOUS goal. But what is likely happening with the SUB CONSCIOUS mind? More times than not, the person is feeding their sub conscious mind with negative thoughts, such as "How many times have I tired to do this with no success?", or... "I'll never be able to lose that much weight by summer!", or similar negative thoughts. So guess what... it just won't happen. No matter how much you tell yourself consciously that you want to lose the weight, your sub conscious is telling your conscious mind that you can't do it. The conscious mind is driven to make the information it receives from the sub conscious true and real. So the conscious mind does whatever it takes to make the negative information it receives from the sub conscious come true. So in order to be successful, you have to feed your sub conscious mind positive information instead of negative information. Remember! , the su b conscious mind doesn't care if the information it receives is true or not. It accepts as true whatever it is told. La..La..La.. Gibberish Your Mind To Ecstacy. Hurrah!

We all have faced this common problem of constant chattering that goes on in our mind for hours. Human Mind is a chatter box. We don't need anyone else to do the talking. We can talk to our own self for hours. We talk when we are awake, we also talk when we are asleep - in dreams also. Dreams are the pictorial manifestation of the chattering that mind does during sleep.

A constant monologue is happening. Mind is neurotic and this habit of the mind does a lot of harm to us in many ways. In fact, we unanimously agree that no one has harmed us more than our uncontrollable chattering mind. We don't know how to still our mind and how to put an end to this constant blabbering.

Due to this continuous chattering and non-stop working, the mind is unable to get any noticeable rest and relaxation even in sleep. The chatting and thinking also leads to stress and various negative emotions. This leads to the brain cells and neurons to be in a constant stress and anxiety. As we know that brain neurons are the most delicate and sensitive, this stress leads to their excessive wear and tear. Those damaged neurons are not easily replaceable.

This built up pressure does lot of harm in the long term. It ruins our memory, concentration and ability to learn new things in life. We feel fatigued, worn out and very frustrated with our life. We are unable to see the beauty and various colours of life due to this non-stop futile activity of the mind, on which we seem to have no control whatsoever.

There is an easy way out and it does not cost anything. A beautiful meditation technique does the trick and helps release all the pressure from our freaked out minds. The meditation is known as Gibberish Meditation. It was introduced by 'Gabar', a wonderful Christian mystic. The word 'Gibberish' has originated from this technique that was taught by him.

Gibberish Meditation is an excellent tool to release pent up thoughts and emotions out of the mind and enter into silence.! All tha t needs to be done is that we have to gaze into the sky for ten to fifteen minutes. Then we need to start singing la...la...la... During the course of this meditation, we need to keep everything else at bay and just forget everything else, just sing la...la...la.... Soon it begins to change its colour, sounds may change into words, maybe even foreign words.

Continue this way for around twenty minutes. Bring out everything from inside, all the repressed thoughts. A great relaxation arises from this. Let the sky be the witness. And if the body begins to move, let it sway. At the end, lie down on the ground and be silent for a while. A deep silence dawns upon the mind. Lesser and lesser thoughts arise now, we are in a state of bliss - the bliss of NO-MIND.

Gibberish Meditation is an effective cleansing process and when practised regularly, it prepares us for deeper meditation. Its an easy way to experience the bliss of silence. Beautiful is the silence that arises when the mind is at rest and is not involved in useless chattering. Much energy is saved and that energy becomes an ecstacy for us.

Vajiradhammapadip Temple Part 2

Overnight, a new temple called "Vajiradhammapadip Temple" was established at 179th Street in West Bronx. The site is a house on a 4, 121.5 square-foot plot of land purchased with donated funds of ,000. The two monks moved in to residence on July 21, 2518/1975. The following day the Temple was granted legal status and its official establishment marked. Since then it is this new temple that has been known to the public and has been serving Thai people and Buddhists of other nationalities in the Tri-State areas of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut as well as in other neighboring States.

As the site of the temple was too small for the various activities of the large Thai community of the Tri-State areas, it was moved on July 17, 2526/1983 to the present site in Mount Vernon, a 2-acre plot of land purchased at the price of 0,000.

As for the other temple, though it remained inactive for years, without monks in residence and with problems unsolved, efforts continued to bring the problems to solution. On September 12, 2518/1975, the Temple was granted by His Holiness the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand the honorary name of 'Usabudhyaram Temple'. Finally, its executives made a decision to abolish the Buddhist Study Center, Inc.; to transfer the Center's property to the Buddha-Sasana Temple, and to hand over all activities of and executive power over the Buddha-Sasana Temple to the monks who represent, or are authorized by, the Buddhist Order of Thailand. So far the transaction has not been carried out.

During the Vassa period of 2526/1983, five monks resided at Vajiradhammapadip Temple, including a visiting monk. Located in the principal Atlantic port of entry to the United States, the Temple is often visited by monks and groups of monks coming to the United States, who may stay for a short or long while before resuming their travels. Moreover, as New York City is the biggest city in the U.S. with a large Thai population, consisting of people of various professions and occupations (Thai ! medical doctors, Thai nurses, Thai businessmen, Thai taxi-drivers, Thai bartenders, Thai students, etc.), Vajiradhammapadip Temple has become, in New York, the main center and, in the United States as a whole, a focal center of Thai religious and cultural activities. It is frequented by many people and welcomes visitors, Thai, Americans and those of other nationalities, who come from the Tri-State area, from other more distant states and from Thailand. Merit-making ceremonies and festival have come into vogue here. Again and again, gatherings of friends and relatives are seen participating in merit-making ceremonies, held at the Temple or at the homes of the alms-givers, on auspicious occasions such as birthdays, weddings and house-blessings, and on funeral and memorial occasions. Almost all Buddhist holy days and yearly festive occasions like New Year's Day and Songkran are observed and celebrated, being attended by such large gatherings of people that the comparatively small building of the temple can hardly accommodate them.

However, it is the Buddhist Sunday school classes (with an enrollment of about 70 in 2520/1977) that is the main on-going activity of the temple. In addition to lessons in Thai language, morals and general social studies, the Temple's teaching staff, which consists of monk-residents and volunteers, offers its young students, at ages ranging from three to twelve, special lessons and training in painting, Thai dance and Thai sword play. Now and again, the Temple school is invited to send its young students to perform shows of Thai dance and Thai sword play at festivals and fairs held or sponsored by different Thai groups and associations. Classes in Pali and Thai language for English speaking people are held from time to time, depending on the number of students and space in the building. The Temple Library, roughly divided into English and Thai sections, plans to place its emphasis on Buddhist studies, Thai studies, Southeast Asian studies and Thai literature.

Meditation traini! ng is of fered only if there is a meditation-master monk in residence at the Temple or a visiting master has been invited by the Temple to hold a training session. On invitation, some monks go at times to deliver lectures and engage in discussions on Buddhism and related subjects at other religious institutions, colleges and universities. The Temple issues a periodical called "Dhammapadip" which is published as part of the celebration on the occasion of annual Buddhist holy days and traditional Thai festivals. There are six numbers a year. Books, booklets and pamphlets are also published from time to time to realize the objectives of propagating Buddhism and publicizing the activities of the Temple.
