Another inspiring RSSB "why I left" story

I love religious deconversion stories. They're more inspiring to me than conversion stories, because I've come to realize that a meaningful life is far distant from religiosity. 

So someone is making progress when he or she is able to get further away from rigid dogmas. Below is a story from one such "someone."

After sending me an email, I encouraged this person to write a blog-sharable version of why a decision was made to leave the formalities of Radha Soami Satsang Beas, an India-based spiritual group organized around the teachings of a line of gurus who are considered to be God in Human Form.

This morning I read a passage in one of my favorite books, Raymond Smullyan's "The Tao is Silent," which is a good introduction to the following deconversion story.

I would make the statement "everyone has the right to do what he wants" only to people who I feel are overly moralistic.

...All I am really trying to say to them is, "I wish you would let yourself alone and stop beating yourself on the head; I believe you would be better off." That's all I really mean by "Everybody has the right to do whatever he wants." 

Perhaps a still better way of conveying my real message is to say that if one believes he has the right to do what he wants, then he is more likely to want to do what is right.

Thanks for offering to let me have an opportunity to share my experience with your readers.  I have always enjoyed reading your blog; you are quite prolific and thought provoking.  

Since I was a very young child I have felt deeply that someone or something was always with me.  Perhaps it's just my own ego or personality, but I have never felt as if I were entirely alone.  When I first started thinking about having a guru, I imagined "this must be who has been with me all this time!"  This sense of companionship has always felt like a living presence.  This is in contrast to my feelings about Jesus who in my childhood I tended to only see in black velvet paintings or nailed to a cross. 

I was raised a southern Baptist and briefly attended Catholic Mass along with a boyfriend during the late 1970's.  [I didn't know until later that because I wasn't an official Catholic I am likely doomed to hell for drinking the wine and chewing the wafer following transubstantiation. I was never confirmed.] 

A few years later I was initiated into RSSB.  And somewhat like you, I quit after nearly 30 years.

During the intervening years I had officially converted from Christianity to Judaism, as my husband was Jewish, and we had a huge "religiously recognized" wedding.  It was the first gay wedding at our reform synagogue--one of the oldest in the United States.   

During my active involvement, I was pretty much a closeted Satsangi. As you know, the RSSB books contain much of the typical fundamentalist preaching on the subject that I had heard from the Baptist church (which I abandoned) and a sort of "gay-hate lite" that I heard from the Catholic Church.  Frankly, I had been so numbed to what religion had to say on the subject that I pretty much ignored it.  I never in my life felt that God didn't love me because I was gay. I knew that I loved our creator, whatever entity that may be, and that was enough for me.  

As far as I know I was the only openly gay Satsang speaker.  There may have been others but having lived in the Baptist closet my entire childhood I just avoided discussing it.

Our local center has always been really great. People were nice and we didn't have any weird group dynamics that we always heard rumblings of happening across the country.  Over the years I was even nominated for secretary.

This last time I was nominated, the local secretary was apparently asked to pry into my personal life with weird questions that I am sure they would never ask a straight person. Anyway, I was fine with it all but relieved that I didn't get the "honor" of all the extra work.

This spring I finally accepted the fact that the RSSB rose had started dying on the vine for me some time ago.  It started several years earlier on a trip I took to Petaluma. It was during a Q&A session when someone asked Baba Ji a question about how they could be sure he was real and he said, "Sister, how do you know I am not a fraud?" And I can't explain it, but his answer made me completely sick in the pit of my stomach.  It felt like a sign from God… and not like mere indigestion from an Amy's burrito or the work of the devil. 

The entire audience laughed when he said that. I tried to put it out of my mind. Still, it would came back to haunt me occasionally. It had been 25 years for me; and I thought shit, WHAT IF THE JOKE'S ON US?

I liked the fact that in RSSB we weren't pushed to give money. This was a huge change from all the years I spent among the evangelicals, although it felt much more up front in India during my visits there.

One day recently I was just sitting in the car when a feeling flooded over me like a giant wave.  "This is making you unhappy.  Why don't you stop it?" 

And so I did, I tuned in to my inner self and dropped out.  I decided to stop beating myself up for being gay. I decided that God probably doesn't care if there is a particle of an egg in a muffin or gelatin in a marshmallow.  I decided that it doesn't make any sense to raise a ruckus with insurance companies over whether a prescription pill is available in a form other than a gel tab, and I don't give a flying flea whether there is rennet in my cheese.  If this is what is required of perfection, we simply cannot attain it and we will always be unworthy.

It's sad to think of the number of times I refused or threw away food, sending it back to the kitchen and somehow feeling I was the victim in the situation.

Because it was also frowned upon to feed carnivorous pets meat products, I also had tried to feed my cats vegetarian kibble and related products over the years. One of my cats, with the personality of an angel from heaven, has all kinds of allergies. One of the things she is allergic to is yeast, which it turns out is in everything vegetarian.  The poor dear ended up licking herself bare in numerous quarter-sized spots of her fur while I was trying to force her to eat vegetarian cat food. I wondered: did God really want me to have a hairless kitty?

Sant Mat also somehow makes you feel superior every time you eat with someone and they apologize for eating meat in front of you. We might say, "No, go ahead and eat meat I don't care—really!" but in the back of your mind you think "God, you're just poisoning yourself with that stuff!" Sant Mat makes you feel special, more valued.  And then you feel guilty for feeling chosen, and then you feel sorry for the people who are less special because "they will just have to live another lifetime to be as special as you."

I had even less to fear however, since in my case, having converted to Judaism in 2000, I am in fact, covered by a perfect soul-saving trifecta! 

  • Although I had forsaken Jesus when I became Jewish, it seems safe to say that if I turn out to be wrong, he'll be there to greet and forgive me
  • If my Guru is there to greet me when I die, no doubt he will forgive me for leaving RSSB as well. And then I'll probably come back for another life.
  • If neither Jesus nor the Guru is there, at least I will still be a part of the original chosen people.  

Brian, while I may not be an official member of RSSB any longer [although you can never actually leave since the guru never leaves you -- just like with Jesus!], the benefits of meditation are clear according to various scientific studies.  

Now however, instead of beating myself up for not meditating two and a half hours every day, I want to be able to feel great about myself if I meditate for even an hour! Hooray! Ten minutes? Hooray! Hooray!

What a different world I will be living in now… one where I can talk positively to myself instead of thinking that people who don't follow the path "like me" are missing the boat, and where I can be grateful for whatever moments of the day I am able to focus on living in the moment instead of worrying about the past, the future, or whether my guru approves of what I'm feeding my cats. 

The bottom line is this: Sant Mat has requirements of people that are virtually impossible to attain, and because you can never attain them, you are never perfect enough for god-realization. So you have only yourself to blame for not going within.  

After 30 years I am going to believe the opposite: each of us is already perfect because we were created in God's image. To me that means that together with God we are evolving. And just by being who we are, we are always automatically becoming our future higher selves.

    Try it: Look at some of the goals in your life right now. Are there any which you've let slide, because your targets were too ambitious? What new target could you set yourself?

  • Minimum Targets Help Build a Daily Habit
    You don't necessarily have to work towards your goal every single day – but when you're getting started and building new habits, daily action is often a great way to create momentum.

    With a minimum target, it's easy to build up a string of daily successes – meaning you'll be mo! re likel y to hit that target again the following day. After all, if you've successfully done 15 minutes exercise for 10 days, you don't want to break the streak just because you're feeling a bit lazy on Day 11.

    Try it: Put a check mark on your calendar for every day that you achieve your minimum target. See how long you can make the string of successes.

  • Small Amounts of Time Add Up
    You might think that 15 minutes a day isn't enough to make meaningful progress towards a goal. If you're aiming to write a book, for instance, you might only complete one or two paragraphs in 15 minutes.

    Those 15 minutes quickly add up, though. If you write for 15 minutes every day for a month, you'll have worked on your book for 7.5 hours – about the same as a full workday.

    Try it: Work out what you'd accomplish this month if you hit your minimum target every day. There's a good chance this might be more action towards your goal than you managed in the previous month.

  • You Can Do More Than the Minimum!
    One of the key reasons to adopt a minimum target, of course, is that it's a minimum. There's nothing stopping you going further – and, in fact, there's a good chance that you will have the time and energy to do more than your daily 10 or 15 minutes.

    Often, the hardest part of working towards a goal is simply sitting down and getting started. When you know you only need to do 15 minutes, not a whole hour, it's much easier to get going. (And the funny thing is that you may well end up doing that whole hour after all…)

    Try it: On days when you're struggling, it's absolutely fine to just do the minimum. On a good day, though, try doing a little extra – perhaps 5 or 10 minutes more.

Wedding Anniversary Reactions - a Part of the Grieving ProcessBy Karen Mehringer

Far away we noticed a hawk flying. Within the next moment, it headed straight towards all of us and circled over head. Smiling, I knew that Kyle was around as we celebrated the 13-year wedding anniversary of his death. We made the ritual of hiking to his sapling, a small oak ling; we grown in his honor, a year following he passed. I hadn't been there in 3 years, so was happy to see the way the tree had filled out and was big enough to supply shade for me and my loved ones, protecting us from the scorching sunlight.

The next morning, the day associated with his actual anniversary, I placed a picture of him as a baby and also a fresh yellow rose from my backyard on my altar and meditated. Instantly, I felt his loving, spiritual existence. Tears flowed as I was conquer with intense love, gratitude and pleasure. I recognized how integral his existence and death, his journey, had visited my own. His death helped me to awaken spiritually and sent me by myself journey of healing and transformation which led me to carrying out work I love, helping others to recover and transform their lives. It seems he is still with me today, unlocking doorways, guiding me onward.

My father's 10-year wedding anniversary since his death was only 3 days prior. That morning, I experienced old photos and placed a few on my altar. I gave personally permission to grieve and allowed personally to miss him…his voice, his chuckle, his hugs. I missed feeling the actual security of his physical presence. I also spent time in gratitude for all the gifts he gave me…the adventures we'd, my love for sailing, etc.

When i write this, I am still healing in the flu I got over two weeks ago that left me with this particular annoying persistent cough. I am aware that issues using the lungs are typically related to grief which my body is responding to the actual memories of my brother's and father's deaths this season. I am experiencing an anniversary response.

Anniversary reactions often come as the surprise. Just! when we think we're done grieving, and have gotten to the business of living, an unpredicted wave hits. We wonder, "Where did this originate from? Perhaps I am not as far across the grieving process as I thought. " The reaction can go deep and last some time, or be subtle. Sometimes they aren't obvious for example my experience with getting the flu. Something for certain, they remind us which healing from loss takes time. As well as, they offer us an opportunity to heal further if we permit them instead of resist them.

Typically a reaction occurs on or near a landmark date like the death of a loved one, their own birthday, or a holiday. They may occur around a specific life experience like a graduation or wedding where their lack is strongly felt. When my sibling, Kara, graduated with her master's level, the room was packed, nearly each and every chair taken. Somehow there were two empty chairs alongside us, on either side. It was comforting to assume my father and Kyle sitting there around, as we celebrated her huge achievement.

Creating a ritual around these trigger dates permits us to be conscious of their affect and may assist us in the healing process…pictures with an altar, planting a tree or blossom, gathering with family and friends to talk about stories about our loved one. Every year, your reaction will get less and less severe and will also be able to experience more joy as well as energy for living.

Buddha-nature is not empty

Please forgive me for my shameless borrowing from NG Yu-Kwan's book, T'ien-T'ai Buddhism and Early Madhyamika, which is a revised version of his dissertation.  T'ien-T'ai Buddhism doesn't get the treatment it deserves in pop Buddhism being always overshadowed by dubious speculations of what pop Buddhist authors believe Buddhism, especially Mahayana Buddhism, is about.  Enough!

Grandmaster Chih-i (538–597 AD) taught that no-emptiness (pu-k'ung) is the Buddha-nature which is also the true Middle Way, not just the Middle Way of transcending extremes by means of emptiness.  Transcending extremes, simply put, is negation without positive implication.  Judging from its results, one is led to where there is neither permanence (nitya), universal substance (e.g., ekacitta) or Buddha-nature.

Chih-i uses the term Buddha-nature in contrast with emptiness (shunyata) which is incomplete.  Emptiness is generally used to reveal the fact that phenomena are unreal and barren, hence, empty.  Like a dream, all things (sarvadharma) are without substance or reality.  In particular, emptiness was used by Nagarjuna to help people to stop clinging to conceptions.  

"The ambrosial teaching of emptiness aims at abolishing all conceptions (samkalpa).  But if someone believes in that [emptiness] you [have declared] he is lost" (Lokâtîtastava).

For Chih-i it became clear, if not obvious, that emptiness fails to expound the Buddha-nature which, itself, is not empty or barren.  According to the Mahayana Mahaparinirvana Sutra: "When the Bodhisattva-mahasattva sees the Buddha-Nature, he gains the Eternal, Bliss, Self, and the Pure."

Travelling can be extremely stressful because there are so many things that can go wrong. Add in the fact that most people are doing something that they do not do every day and that their focus is usually on the trip or what they will do on holiday, and it is easy to see why things get lost or are not looked after properly.

There are many important documents that people have when travelling and losing items such as passports or wallets can turn a good holiday into a nightmare very quickly. Being able to have these items locked away securely is a fantastic way to make the most of being in a particular city without having to constantly check where they are.

The freedom provided by luggage lockers ties in perfectly with the sense of adventure that many people hope to find on holiday, but with the safety they offer as an added bonus. All of this means that users who want to explore a new city or just make the most of their free time without feeling hindered by their luggage can do so. It doesn't matter whether you ha! ve just one item or the luggage for a whole family, there will be sufficient space in the luggage lockers to ensure you can enjoy yourself without having to worry about your property. Holidays are meant to be relaxing so take the necessary steps to ensure you are able to unwind as much as possible.

Two Distinct Minds

We have two distinct minds-our conscious mind and our subconscious mind. Most of us are very aware of our conscious mind because we "seem" to spend a great deal of time there. However, depending on which study you read, it has been proven that 60-95% of the decisions we make and the behaviors we exhibit are generated by our subconscious mind. Think about that staggering percentage and now think about your daily routine. When you got up this morning did you give any specific thought to the routine of getting ready and preparing for your day? Did you implement any step out of traditional order? If you took the kids to school or drove to work, did you drive the exact same route as yesterday? As you have continued through your day have you given any specific thought to breathing? There is always an exception to every rule, however, in most cases the answer to all these questions for many would be 'no.'

As we live new experiences our subconscious mind very quickly stores data, creates neuro-pathways, and develops routines that allow us to easily duplicate an action or process in the future like driving to work and, yes, breathing. These pre-existing processes are convenient and even helpful. However, there are two questions I think are important to ponder.

* Are you comfortable spending a significant portion of your life on autopilot?* How can you tap into the power of your subconscious mind to accomplish what is meaningful in your life?

Autopilot is fine for certain things like which to do first take a shower or have a cup of coffee. However, being on autopilot allows us not to be 'present' and provides for missed opportunities. How many opportunities have you missed with your family, your spouse, or at work to do, say, or be something better simply because you were on cruise control. Applied knowledge is power and understanding the power of our subconscious mind allows us to step out of autopilot and unleash our untapped potential. Do you really know what you want? Can you see it cl! early in your mind down to the smallest detail? Have you written it down in a clear and concise manner? Do you know why you want it? Do you believe you can obtain it? Charles Simmons, author of Your Subconscious Power states, "Your subconscious thrives on knowledge. In dealing with a condition of life, whether it is a problem or an opportunity, consciously observe its traits. Then decide how you deal with the condition. Assign your knowledge, and your intention to act, to your subconscious. With its reserve of knowledge, your subconscious will then come to your aid."

Tapping into the power of your subconscious mind can begin by committing to two things. First, deliberately focus your conscious action on positive and results-oriented action. Your subconscious will record these patterns which will help you maintain a positive attitude and focus even when life events take place that could take you off course. Second, change negative influences by deliberately cultivating positive habits that offset negative ones. You cannot erase a negative or bad habit; however, you can replace it with a new and positive influence by simply creating a new pattern your subconscious mind finds noteworthy and is worth repeating. Affirmations are a great system to help make these positive changes take place.

There are so many things in our environment that we cannot control nor influence. However, we have an incredible power source in the combination of our conscious and subconscious mind that is totally within our control. Take control of your destiny, your life, and your success by effectively using the power of your two distinct minds.

Mind-Reading For Better Social Skills

Our ability to infer another person's mental state is referred by psychologists as having a "theory of mind". The survival mechanism of mind-reading helps you adapt to diverse people and is powerful if you know how to use it.

Researchers agree our theory of mind develops around two years of age. Toddlers can calculate people's desires, intents, and thoughts. If a toddler sees a crying baby, she infers the distressed baby's mental state. The toddler may tug her mother's sleeve, pulling her to comfort the distressed baby. Up until then, you will not see empathetic children with mind-reading skills.

If you were like a baby absent of a theory of mind, you would continuously get in social and emotional trouble. A theory of mind helps you to do the closest thing to mind-reading as you dig into a person's mind. You are able to see the intangible like: a young boy picked on at school feels hurt and alone; your partner comes home from work smiling, leading you to believe he or she had a good day at work; a depressed friend who recently broke up with her boyfriend leads you to think she needs space for recovery. Your inference into mental states helps adjust your behavior to better accommodate people.

What if, however, your friend who broke up with her boyfriend, wants to be comforted by you. Because you guessed she needed space, she would feel neglected, ignored, and more rejected. Inaccurate mind-reading causes relationship destruction.

Tell someone their destructive mental state or intent behind an action, such as, "You're jealous because you think...", and you will cause immediate trouble. This is what I refer to as "diagnosing" where we figure out people's intents behind their actions, which gets us into arguments and detracts from our power with people. (I recommend you read the third chapter on diagnosing of my Communication Secrets of Powerful People for more information about this bad communication skill.)

Mind-reading also frustrates the beholder. We jeopardize our we! llbeing from judgments because we have limited ability to infer someone's mental state. A person laughing at a distance who makes eye contact with you may be giggling at a joke, not you. You think people judge you - a useful process when used correctly - but it too often sends you to mental imprisonment as you become anxious and constrain your real self from entering the conversation. Your theory of mind is too often an unreliable tool to calculate what people think.

You were given the ability to read someone's mind so you could better adapt to the environment. Someone aggressively staring you down triggers thoughts of potential danger, allowing you to change to survive the threat. You can be over-reliant on this skill, however, by worrying about people's thoughts when there is no concrete evidence (such as nonverbal communication) that signal you need to adjust your behavior. What is used to survive and better connect you with people, separates you. (You can improve this innate skill to become better with people by discovering several tricks of psychology to read people's minds based on the roots of empathy.)

Mind: It's Not All in Your Head

A scientific and philosophical rent that has existed for nearly 400 years is now being resewn. The idea that the body and the mind are separate entities is a descendant of philosopher René Descartes' work and resulted, among other things, in a modern world split between physiology and psychology. Doctors treated the body; psychologists the mind. There was always some doubt among both camps of the validity of this split, but the medical community especially quickly debunked any of their own who went public with such doubts.

But how then to explain such things as a positive attitude and its positive effect on the healing process? Or negative experiences, such as the chronic strep throat of a patient who was also an incest survivor and was intimidated from talking about her abuse? Do our thoughts and feelings affect our health? What some psychologists have long observed, science is now giving us a physical explanation for... and turning our beliefs about the "location" of the mind literally upside down.

Do you think the mind is in the brain and therefore in the head? Wait until you hear about the research of Dr. Candace Pert, formerly Chief of the Section on Brain Biochemistry of the Clinical Neuroscience Branch at the National Institute of Mental Health. Pert discovered the opiate receptor and many other peptide receptors in the brain and in the body, which led to an understanding of the chemicals that travel between mind and body.

In an interview with Bill Moyers for his book "Healing and the Mind," Pert said that initially she thought that by studying the brain, she would learn about the mind and consciousness. "So for most of my early research, I concentrated from the neck up. But the astounding revelation is that... endorphins and other chemicals like them are found not just in the brain, but in the immune system, the endocrine system, and throughout the body... Information is flowing. These molecules are being released from one place, they're diffusing all over the body, and ! they're tickling the receptors that are on the surface of every cell in your body."

In other words, the mind/brain doesn't just sit in the head, making decisions, and commanding the body to carry them out. The "stuff" of the brain is located on every cell of the body... like hyperlinks to other body cells. Perhaps the original information superhighway!

And there's more. Everything in our bodies is being run by messenger molecules, many of which are peptides, which are made up of amino acids, the building blocks of proteins, Pert said. "We have come to theorize that these neuropeptides and their receptors are the biochemical correlates of emotions. We've actually found the material manifestation of emotions in these peptides and their receptors." Emotions are thus not just mental or physical, but a bridge between them, she said.

"Emotions can be in the physical realm, where we're talking about molecules whose molecular weight I can tell you, and whose sequences I can write as formulas. And there's another realm that we experience that's not under the purview of science. There are aspects of mind that have qualities that seem to be outside of matter. Let me give you an example. People with multiple personalities sometimes have extremely clear physical symptoms that vary with each personality. One personality can be allergic to cats while another is not. One personality can be diabetic and another not.

"If you accept the premise that the mind is not just in the brain but that the mind is a part of a communication network throughout the brain and body, then you can start to see how physiology can affect mental functioning on a moment-to-moment, hour-by-hour, day-to-day basis..."

How exactly can this affect our health?

Another researcher, Dr. Margaret Kemeny, assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at UCLA, is studying the relationship between psychology and the HIV virus. Kemeny has been exploring whether short-term emotional changes, such as! feeling sad or happy for 20 minutes, affect the immune system. Kemeny found that when such a feeling was experienced, there was an increase in the number of natural killer cells in the person's bloodstream, and that they were functioning more effectively than when the person was in a neutral state. Killer cells help fight disease. They are our first line of defense against invading organisms.

Surprisingly, though, Kemeny found that the "effect of the happy state on the immune system was very similar to what we had seen as a result of the sad state." Thus feeling anything, for a short-term, seems to have a positive affect on our immune system. "I think the implication is that there may be a way to use psychological tools and interventions to alter our emotional state in ways that would have positive effects on our immune system... for example, group therapy."

This changes how we see the interaction of emotions, our immune system, and our health. "Now there's a... perspective... which is that the immune system is part of the fight-or-flight response, and that when you're running away from an animal in the jungle, and you're falling over branches, or whatever, you need a mechanism that will increase the functioning of the first-line-of-defense cells, such as natural killer cells. That way, if you get bitten, or you get a cut, and organisms get into your system, your immune system would be ready to respond and deal with those infections right away."

But just like a heart that can get weakened under constant stress, so too the immune system. Living with fear day after day, month after month, can deplete the mechanisms that pump these killer cells into your bloodstream. Thus depression, chronic anxiety, etc., can wear down our immune systems.

"There is fairly good data, although it's not consistent, that people who've lost their spouses are at increased risk for dying themselves over the 6 months to one year after the loss of their spouse. Hypothetically, that's because many of them are experi! encing a depression... That depression then may lead to biological changes that make them more vulnerable to heart attacks and other kinds of diseases," Kemeny said. She has found that men whose partners died of AIDS did show changes in the immune system after the death of their partners, which suggest that the immune system may be becoming impaired.

Kemeny, Pert, and others acknowledge that research on mind-body interactions is only in its infancy. It will be fascinating to observe the growth of this discipline.

Hi guys, this is my first attempt at an ASMR film. I forgot my tripod, so I'm sorry if it's shaky at all. I am trying to plan more exciting videos, but this was the only one I could do with one hand. Expand Your Vision

You've heard of thinking outside the box, right? When you think outside the box you open yourself to innovative ways of approaching problems or situations and you can look at things from a new perspective. But when you are stuck in a rut feeling like there's no way out of your situation whether it's mental, financial, emotional or physical it's hard to think outside the box because you're stuck inside of it!

I often hear people say things like: I'll never meet anyone again, I'll never get out of debt, who would want to hire me, I guess I'll be alone forever, who would want to marry me, why doesn't anything ever good happen to me? And on and on.

So, what is it that you think is missing for these people? What is the one thing that they can't see because they are lost in the darkness inside their own mind and their old ways of thinking? What if this darkness that occupies Mind Street was replaced with hope, belief and trust? Then would they have a different view of things?

When you open your vision beyond your own little inside world filled with fears, doom and gloom, woe-is-me, limited thinking you will begin to see what's beyond the inside of the box. And, when you allow yourself to open up to a new way of thinking or a new consciousness; what is outside of the box is a world filled with infinite possibilities.

Instead of being locked down by your thoughts, your thoughts will be the very thing that can set you free. It begins with trusting that life is working out the way it's supposed to on your unique journey.

Let's just pretend you have a barometer that can read your "trust level." It goes from 1 to 100. Now throughout the day you're going to check and see what your meter reads. If you trust in God/Your Higher Self/Allah/ or whatever and you truly believe that you are being guided; your trust level is high. But if you don't believe things will work out for you and you hav! e no fai th, where do you think your trust level will be? The best part is you can adjust your trust level by what you choose to believe in.

When you can learn to expand your vision to connect with a higher consciousness, this connection is the essence of who you are and who you are connected to. And it is through this connection that you raise your mind to a new level that is out of the box and you will be well on your way to experiencing life the way you were meant to.

Many people seek out this connection through meditation, and prayer which helps you become aware of who you really are. Too often what happens is we identify who we are with our human experience, our mind or ego, i.e. who we are, what we drive, where we live, what our story is, what is happening to us and all of the superficial stuff.

But when you become more "consciously aware" of who you really are which is your soul and you connect with your soul, i.e. a higher consciousness, you will look at things with new eyes, a new awareness. Begin to look at life through your spiritual eyes; it will stretch your faith and your vision so you can get rid of the old negative mind-sets that hold you back.

And when you understand this, you will have expanded your vision and how you look at life. It's worth the view!

Low Carb Diet Approach for Maximum Weight Reduction

Dieting and weight reduction aren't static activities; it requires effort and commitment from the participant. Weight isn't gained in two days and it won't be reduced in two. Weight loss has constantly been a harmony between calories that are consumed and those that are burned. Other variables that are of consideration are your age, gender, fitness level, genetic make up, stress level, volume of exercise and food that you eat.

This principle is not core to the reduced carb diet method. These plans aren't concerned with the volume of calories but as an alternative the amount of sugar and carbohydrates you take into your system. The diet regime essentially places your body into ketoacidosis, which burns much more calories rapidly but also has side consequences that involves lower mental acuity, stress on the kidneys, feelings of being tired, elevated blood pressure, high cholesterol, diarrhea and severe headaches.

Prior to starting a low carb diet plan it is best to consult with your physician to determine if your current health will withstand the stresses of the ketoacidosis. Also under consideration are the prescription drugs you are taking and your current blood glucose tolerance.

Several things you do will help to increase your success at using a low carb diet plan. You should always drink plenty of water, at least 8-10 8oz glasses per day but limit the amount of caffeine. The fluids should be water; not soda, not coffee, not tea. Take an extra vitamin and fiber supplement to make up for any nutritional deficits you could possibly experience.

As with any weight loss plan you should incorporate exercise and physical activity. This especially crucial using a low carb diet plan to help reduce some of the side effects. And core to this diet plan is to monitor your sugar and carbohydrates.

Whenever you use a low carb diet plan you can initially count on feeling cravings for the foods you should no longer eat. To increase your likelihood of success you should remove th! ose food s in the house. Throw them all out. And when you go shopping for the new foods do NOT shop when you are hungry!

On the second day of your dedication to a low carb diet plan you'll be creating a menu for the subsequent week. Shop for the foods and get the recipes you need. You should be organized and plan for the almost certain cravings you'll have. Make sure there are alternative foods on hand to help you withstand the temptations.

Begin your diet at the beginning of a day and not in the middle. Starting in the middle enables you to be tempted to go off the diet since you didn't consume the appropriate things for breakfast – right? Spend this day cooking and preparing foods for snacks and meals so you have quick access to foods.

One significant disadvantage to this diet is that you will increase the amount of animal protein which also decreases the absorption of calcium in your body leading to osteoporosis and bone loss. When you are taking a vitamin supplement include a mineral and calcium supplement as well.

The low carb diet plan can assist you to learn better eating habits and to start a fast weight loss. Take your physicians recommendation about how long you should remain on this diet before transitioning to a healthy diet you can maintain over the coming years.

To Stay Awake While Meditating

People relax when they fall asleep. But even though meditation is calming, you don't want to fall asleep while meditating because you want to receive the complete benefits from meditation. When a person is asleep their brain waves go into the theta and delta ranges, but when meditating the brain waves are mostly in the alpha state. The brain is calm, though alert.

The reason that a lot of beginning meditators fall asleep is that they have not learned how-to bring out the inner awareness-alertness that is like, but not the same as the relaxation response that happens before going to sleep. There are similarities between sleep, mediation, and hypnosis. Energy ebbs from the external senses and the energy focuses on the inner imagery.

It may be easier to mediate after getting up in the morning and not before going to bed when you are tired. Wait until a few hours after eating or mediate before eating. Using drugs and meditating don't work well together.

Never lie down to meditate, as you will probably fall sleep. When you mediate you want to be comfortable, but don't want to encourage drowsiness. Do find another comfortable posture. Do not practice meditation in the place you sleep, if you fall asleep in your easy chair, never meditate there. You don't want to initiate a sleep response.

If you find you are so comfortable that you can't stay awake, try a different posture or create s a bit of discomfort. Something that isn't so irritating, but helps you stay awake. Perhaps, sitting on the floor instead of a chair or trying a less comfortable chair will increase your alertness.

Changing where you meditate might snap your mind wake-- maybe meditating in your backyard or by a lake or at the park. You can try positioning your arms or legs so that they will fall or move when you fall asleep and wake you up.

If thoughts about troubles, bills, TV shows, work, your relationships etc. flood your mind when you try to fall asleep, then using meditation to control your focus and be serene can help you to fall asleep easier and can keep you calmer during the day.

When someone practices meditating each day, he can learn to be calm and focus his thoughts. This is what happens to the body while meditating: more blood flows to the arms and legs, blood pressure goes down, stress hormone levels lower, brain waves go to the alpha state. These physiological changes occur when the mind is cleared and the thoughts are focused. With practice a person can learn to meditate.

Whether you are having trouble meditating because you are falling asleep or you want to use meditation to fall asleep afterwards it is a practical, useful, and benefit habit.
