There was a very dramatic shift in my life, my well being and my weight reduction when I made the selection to take pleasure in some foods again. I began to break my own guidelines and dwell my life. I started to have fun with food and enjoyable came back into my life.

Sit up at midnight, on your bed, do japa [repetition of a mantra or God's name] for ten or twenty minutes.

[Sw.S] Just imitate Holy Mother's life. I used to read Mother's life and that is where I learned about Master [Sri Ramakrishna].

Question from a devotee: What is the Bija [seed-mantra syllable] of Master's Name?

Swamiji: You have to be initiated into it. It is aim. [The mantra, unless transmitted or spoken to the chela (disciple) by the Guru (teacher), is not regarded as having its full power.]

Bija is the seed. A normal seed contains the tree and all the flowers and fruits. See how small is the bija, and yet from it grows a huge tree - like the banyan tree [pictured]. Bija is the mystic syllable of the Lord's name. From it springs forth, in due time, spiritual consciousness, devotion and love and more.

Remember, this experience isn't about seeing others free of clothing, it's about setting yourself free and coming into the uninhibited experience of your own body.

Group naked yoga classes

Whether straight or gay, male or female, group nude yoga classes are highly recommended.

Though it's a fairly easy thing to practice nude yoga in the privacy of your own home, it's an entirely different thing to get naked in front of a dozen or more strangers.

Again, it can be liberating, allowing you to let your guard down and stop judging yourself and others by the surface layer. Rather, you feel a part of a close community, sharing deeply.

A quick Internet search will show you the nude yoga classes near you. If there aren't any, you might look on Craigslist or Meetup.org for other people interested in naked yoga classes. If you can get a few people to! gether, you are more likely to convince a yoga teacher to conduct a clothes-free or clothing-optional class.

The modern siege against a spiritual self

The word 'self' used in a spiritual context like Buddhism can often be used in the wrong way.  The word self, we have to remember when we see it in Buddhism, is a translation of âtman and/or attâ .  The English word self doesn't match up with âtman that well.  Nor does ego.  Âtman has no reference to Freud's ego; nor is it ever used as the center of selfishness.  To use a line from Mark Twain the difference between the modern meaning of self and the Buddha's meaning is "the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning."

We have to keep in mind also, that Buddhism's rise in popularity in the West is due, in part, to a misreading of Buddhism by those who are fed up with religion; who are sympathetic to certain views found in materialism which, for example, reject postmortem survival.  In this context, there is a siege directed against a spiritual self. 

For the most part, Buddhism understood in the West is believed to be an Indian form of materialism that rejects Brahmanism's idea of spirit or âtman.  This is, of course, not true at all.  No where in the Stress Reduction canon is Brahmanism rejected out of hand.   If this were actually the case, why is there a whole chapter in the Dhammapada dedicated to the brahmin (Brâhmanavaggo), beginning with verse, 383?  Let us not also forget that the Buddha's family name is Gautama which is a brahmin name.  In the Itivuttaka (IV, i) the Buddha even declares that he is a brahmin.  

In light of the above, and much more, why should we straightaway assume the âtman as it is used in the canon of Buddhism doesn't often refer to the notion of Brahmanism's âtman?  Surely, the Buddha when he said "The self is the support of the self" (attâ hi attano nâtho) meant more than suggesting our temporal self is the support of itself.  And what accounts for all the self compounds found in the Pali canon, for example, attaññu (knower of the self)? (I counted over 65 different compounds using self.)

The most revealing part of the West's understanding of Buddhism it that it relies more on what the Buddha did not say instead of what he actually said.  Western Buddhism, especially its notion of self or âtman/attâ has all the earmarks of materialism.  The golden thread of the transcendent is missing.

When you set a goal or commit to a purpose you may feel overwhelming intimidation. I have found this in my own personal experiences in dealing with my diet and my non healthy food choices. Making an inner goal about food scared me because deep in my subconscious mind, I believed I did not deserve good or a successful goal. The best way to process this type of fear is to develop trust in your gut instincts and follow their direction. For many years, I silenced my fears by compulsive overeating or binge eating on sweets and carbohydrates.

Then I felt bad or guilty, which caused me to fall deeper into binging, gaining weight, and used these feelings like a stick to beat myself up while confirming to myself that I was unworthy of achieving my goals.

I share this with you for two reasons. The first reason is because I believe that you can relate to my story and my experience. The second reason is when I was researching the material for this article I asked myself a question. The question is, how I could write to you about this subject. I found that the answer is always found within the question. You have the answers to any problem that you might have. Think about that for a moment. I know that statement caused me to stop and pause when I first heard it. Ever since then, I have been testing that statement; that the answer is always found within the question. I have written several articles sharing the process of catching answers.

When I finally got to my breaking point, I asked my Higher Power to help me establish healthy food choices and my food boundaries. Well, the answer was within the question. The answer was I had to surrender my ego; or I call my ego that part of my mind that wants to do whatever it wants without thinking about the consequences or my over all well- being. Another way to look at the ego is reading it as an acronym that says, 'Easing-God-Out'.

The following questions are for you to answer and look for the answer within the question. The driving force behin! d bounda ries with food is the desire. The following questions are designed to help you gain insight so that you can build a stronger and stronger desire. So let's begin. Take a piece of paper or use a journal and write the following questions along with your answers. After answering them, share your questions and answers with a supportive friend or therapist.

1. Ask yourself, "When did you experience knowing that it was the right thing to do; while realizing what is right is also good for you. Did this help you do the right thing? Be specific.

2. Where are you when it comes to boundaries? Do you understand setting and maintaining is right?

3. How often does your pain help you see that something is good for you? How has your pain added to your realization that boundaries are good for you?

4. Ask yourself, "Why should I expect to have to fight for my growth?"

5. What specific things do you think or believe you have to do to work out or work on your spiritual consciousness of yourself-image?

Yes, you desire a better relationship with your food, a healthy diet, and healthy lifestyle. However, it doesn't just magically happen without some work. We often in today's world think that world owes us an immediate gratification. This doesn't work. Because when we start doing boundary work with food we will begin to deal with a war like situation. There will be skirmishes, battles, disputes, and losses. Please read question four again.

What can help, is to say to yourself, "I am worth it because my Higher Power or God loves me. I am Soul." I have another very important tip to empower you, and to help you have spiritual insight, but it doesn't come overnight. You have to develop it like any other skill or muscle. So what I'm going to share is a word that you can chant or sing that can help uplift you, calm you, and help you gain spiritual insight. It is the word that is an ancient word for God. Sing it with love and with reference. Look for the light, and listen for the inner sound! s of all life. The word is HU as in hu-man.
