Developing Your Spirituality - Basic Exercises

What is spirituality, and why and how would someone want to develop it?

Spirituality is nothing less than a conscious awareness of your own basic nature, which is essential sprit, and not material. Why to develop it?

We develop our spirituality in order to bring ourselves closer to all creation and the creator. How to develop it? The answer is easily within you.

Considering the Creation

Perhaps there is not a man (or woman) alive or that has ever lived that has not marveled at one time or another at various signs of creation.

Creation being the entire observable and unobservable phenomenon in our universe.

The macro cosmos (larger creation; the stars and our earth) or the micro cosmos, the great miniature universe within ourselves; for example our cells, and our structure and its function.

A simple consideration of its complexity and the number of exact combinations that would have to be met for life to exist can bring the greatest skeptic and atheist to their knees.

Impossibility of Creation

Physicists are now at a basic common agreement that the principles of Quantum physics are about as close as we can understand the mechanics of creation.

They have come to the conclusion the entire universe is made up of thinking (intelligent) non-stuff (particles or waves) with no matter or mass. They further equate this non-stuff with thought. So our entire universe is only thought?

Creation then is impossible. Yet with our intelligent non-stuff and the impossible number of co-incidences required for creation (yet alone "life") to exist, we have our universe in its entire splendor.

Spirituality in our Everyday Lives

We live, we are told, in a material world. Yet, our material world bounds with so-called miracles, miracle workers, and contradiction. These are no more than signposts to indicate the "real" is not so real as we suppose.

Taking that for granted, we must develop our own spirituality so we become closer to what is r! eal rath er than what is not.

Do we fix our consciousness on a creation made up of thinking non-stuff, or do find our own basic nature, align ourselves with that, and start to harmonize ourselves with our basic nature?

Certainly the latter is correct.

Exercise for Developing Your Spirituality

Sitting in a quiet place, and in a comfortable position, close your eyes, and watch your breath. Watch mentally the air coming in and out.

After a few moments, and when you are relaxed, imagine you are free to travel wherever you wish. To another city, to the moon, to the stars.

Feel yourself free in this travel and marvel at the beauty and perfection of the creation all around you.

Try to feel allied to creation, and be a casual observer. Let your imagination run where it will. Let your imagination be a sort of cosmic gypsy, and wander where your imagination takes you.

Do not force your thoughts, let them flow of themselves.

Sitting as long as you can, slowly bring your consciousness back to your here and now. When in the here and now, consider the greatness of creation and the creator, whatever religion you have, use your own symbology.

When you arise from this exercise, your spirituality will have been enhanced.

The more your ponder and wonder, the more your spirituality will develop. Your own beliefs will be reinforced, and you will see even your mundane life improved by this harmonization with creation

The Truth About Yellow Dye No. 5

Unfounded rumors about artificial food additives being unsafe are typically harmless, because consumers can't hurt themselves by cutting back on a chemical that is devoid of nutritional value. But in the case of the synthetic food dye tartrazine, better known in the United States as Yellow No. 5, one rumor became more dangerous than the additive itself. Meanwhile, consumers overlooked another, more insidious, potential side effect of the chemical.

In the late 1990s, fast-paced youngsters turned to a caffeinated beverage easily distinguished from the coffee of their parents' generation: Mountain Dew. This soda, which packed a caffeine wallop half again as potent as Coke or Pepsi, was bubbly, fruity, and most importantly, neon yellow.

The rumor that swirled round Mountain Dew came in different shapes and sizes, but the upshot was always the same: Yellow No. 5, the dye responsible for the Dew's unnatural hue, affected men in a bad way. Some claimed it shrunk or shriveled masculine body parts, but for the most part it was said that tartrazine laid waste to a man's sperm count.

At the time, there was no scientific evidence to support the urban legend, nor was there any reason the myth focused so exclusively on Mountain Dew —tartrazine could be found in comparable concentrations in foods and drinks ranging from pickles to marshmallow Peeps to macaroni and cheese. But some people cut back on their consumption of the soda anyway, worried about its effect on their reproductive health.

But others banked on the rumors being true: they doubled down on the Dew, thinking it would function as a contraceptive.

It's impossible to say how many, if any, couples relied solely on Mountain Dew for birth control. But it was enough of an issue that the Wall Street Journal ran an article about it, as did a number of city and university newspapers. Dear Abby even warned her readers not to rely on the soft drink to prevent pregnancy.

Even today, queries about Mountain Dew's purported spermicidal effects can be found in Internet health forums.

But prophylactic properties aren't the only side effects that have been attributed to tartrazine. In 1975, Ben Feingold, the chief allergist at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in San Francisco, proposed the idea that it and other synthetic food dyes could cause hyperactivity in some children.

Since then, studies have both supported and rebutted this idea, but Feingold's hypothesis gained renewed steam in 2007, when a large-scale study revealed that some children displayed increased hyperactivity when given a mix of artificial colors.

In 2010, artificial food dyes made news yet again when an internal U.S. Food and Drug Administration memo acknowledged that "for certain susceptible children with ADHD and other problem behaviors, the data suggest that their condition may be exacerbated by exposure to a number of substances in food, including, but not limited to, artificial food colors." Very slightly reassuringly, the memo said these effects were "due to a unique intolerance to these substances, and not to any inherent neurotoxic properties."

Today, tartrazine and other artificial food dyes require a special warning on food packages sold in the European Union. No such warning requirement exists in the United States, although tartrazine (or Yellow No. 5) is always identified on ingredients lists when used in packaged foods, for the sake of the estimated 1 in 10,000 people who suffer allergic reactions to the chemical.

The safety of tartrazine for the general population of children is still open for debate. Most are unaffected by artificial food colorings, but it does seem to alter the behavior of some, especially those diagnosed with hyperactivity.

Clouding the issue is the fact that many of the studies that have been done tested a mixture of food colorings, so it's difficult to determine which chemical altered behavior, if there was any one culprit. To make matters more confusing, children who are sensitive to artificial food colorings also tend to be affected by other foods, such as wheat and milk.

If tartrazine's effect on hyperactivity remains unsolved, at least it's clear that it has no effect on sperm count, right? Not so fast. Recently, two small studies in mice — one from Algeria in 2009 and one from India in 2010 — linked tartrazine intake with slightly decreased sperm production. It remains to be seen whether those results will stand up to further scrutiny, or apply to people.

But in the meantime, its safer to assume that Mountain Dew, and anything else not explicitly sold as a contraceptive, will not prevent pregnancy.

Pass it on: Tartrazine has little or no effect on sperm count, but may affect behavior in predisposed children.

Portrait Photographer's Reduction Procedure

Posted: 22 Jun 2012 12:00 PM PDT

Article by Michelle Hurley

Yet another beautiful young lady steps with confidence through the square with a cotton ball summer dress in all the right ways. His brown hair streams back in perfect agreement with the ripples of her dress and the midday sun shines. As a photographer, can not help but admire her poise and sense of purpose.

She has a long look at herself in the window without losing a step. She fondles her long slender fingers through her hair and takes a look. We know what you're thinking, and we think she is beautiful too.

But this young girl entrusted with a secret.

Day and night, casual life, she feels safe and beautiful. She is at the top of his game. But deep down you feel the fear of what lies ahead. In two days she must sit in front of a stranger. One I looked at her with a critical eye and examine each of its features.

It's not like there is a choice. Each high school must go through this ritual.

When walking through the studio doors, her poise and confidence fall ten below zero. Suddenly, she is aware of every mark or scar that has ever received and that tiny grain seem larger than Mt. Vesuvius. Why today of all days! She knows that her nose is too big and leans slightly to one side, but waits for God, you will not notice too much. And you will say something about it too. She is sure.

Is not it amazing how much they like to see ourselves, but we like to have our picture! That all deeply craves attention, to the core of our being, but hate someone who looks at us!

We humans are a complex group!

But despite our quirks and peccadilloes, is the work of the photographer to put the ease with us if he or she will show us in our best light. Shouting "SMILE" behind the camera just does not cut it.

So what is the photographer evoke magic to overcome our fear of sitting before the lens?

Prior to the talks is to relieve stress. Meeting the customer before the actual shoot is a great way to break the ice. The client and the photographer have a cha! t about what the client's interests, what type of clothes they feel most comfortable, and what kind of support they would like to use. You can talk about hair and makeup. And they can decide on where or background scenes. Perhaps there is a particular music puts them in the mood for fun?

The simple act of sitting with the client, a week before the shoot, and to know him or her goes a long way toward allowing its best face to appear.

In the session, the photographer must show organized behavior and relaxed. The customer never relaxes when you are angry shouting orders to his assistant or the fight with telemarketers. Certainly, one can never be rude or short with the client. A calm and relaxed voice provides the authority and clarity of purpose to put the customer in the best for photos.

Put a live music to set the mood. Ideally, the music discussed in the previous session. They have the support ready for use, and all the lights and equipment. Keep talking while working and preparing the next scene. When you know what to expect and what you are trying to do is very helpful. You are a team, and your photos will show how well we work together.

And be sure to add humor. It is one of the best and most genuine to induce a smile.

Meditation: Meaning and Forms

Posted: 22 Jun 2012 11:00 AM PDT

Article by Ajay Kapoor

Meditation, not to be confused with meditation, is an ancient art form that has been practiced for centuries, with origins in the Eastern part of the word; India being a prime example. The basic use of meditation is as a form of healing which does not require the ingestion of any medications, relying only on the individuals mind and how it may be finely tuned to achieve the desired effects on both mind and body. The purpose of meditation is to transcend "normal" thinking and elevate oneself into a higher state of awareness and consciousness, achieve a relaxed state of mind, and be able to clearly focus.

Meditation covers a wide range of spiritual and psycho-physical practices and is not limited to religious traditional practice. The common denominator among all types of meditation, however, is the discipline involved - anyone going into a regime of meditation needs to know the level of discipline that will be required.

As has just been mentioned, meditation does have a number of religious roots including forms developing from the practice of the Baha'i faith, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, Jainism amongst many others, and more recently, from New Age movements.

The practice of meditation can take one of several forms including the focus on a single object or process such as a mantra. Meditation can also be performed while walking or performing or engaged in a simple repetitive task. The object in all cases is to focus and concentrate while minimizing distractions in order to achieve the desired goal of inner peace and self awareness, transcending the mundane cares that usually bog down a good number of us.

Meditation, as practiced in India, has its origins in the Hinduism and Buddhism faith. The original Buddha, Siddhartha Guatama, is believed to have achieved enlightenment while meditating under a Bodhi tree. Buddhist meditation is classified into two forms: the samatha and the vipassana, both of which are necessary for achieving enlightenment. The tw! o classi fications have also been found to merge into one another, with a session starting out with samatha characteristics while ending up with a vipassana practice. While the samatha practice is based on focusing the attention single-pointedly, the vapassana practice is aimed at seeing things as they really are, in the true nature of reality.

In the vipassana style of meditation, the focus of awareness is first of all on the rising and falling the breath and then, when respiration is almost suspended and the mind and heart are still, the focus is then shifted onto either some simple symbol e.g. a candle flame or a body part such as the individual's thumb; or a concept. This is provided that any of these is not likely to prove emotionally or intellectually disturbing.

Meditation has been practiced in India for centuries and there are meditation practitioners and coaches in India who have further developed the art of meditation into a fine skill which will help the individual gain a sense of peace, awareness and total well-being.

Mastering Meditation whilst balancing work

Posted: 22 Jun 2012 10:00 AM PDT

Article by Stephen Frost

Work life balance is an problem for various persons, while indeed is stress, except if you are part of a minute band of the world which come up with a pretty calm life in conjunction with diminutive stress. Various bear jobs which are supposed to stay 9 to 5 however in truth are more akin to 7 to 8, and I mean 13 hours rather than merely 1! So whilst you operate remorselessly and make protracted hours how do you progress on the order of getting clear of stress and balancing out your life? Well meditation is an vastly respectable way to yield an element of balance back and cut stress.Definately I have communicated the value of producing a specified meditation place which you might draw back to at home or else wherever, the realism of manufacturing one of these within the place of work, except if your employer is massively forward thinking is vastly difficult. So what you might make sure of is simply get a quite position outside, or else close the door for the period of lunch or else break period should you boast your own office, or else anywhere you might tune everything off. I do in point of fact know a person who did meditate at their desk for 10 minutes a couple of instances a day within an open plan office, all they needed to make sure of was focus on the meditation and clear everything besides away, largely associates believed he was simply studying his computer display closely!Once you do decide to retain a modest spell to meditate at some stage in working hours, due to a break that is, you could observe that your complete manner for the period of the day along with your power to focus and concentrate shifted. Whilst it does so your productivity and the quality of exertion ramps up as well, plus your amount of joy you find from work. In addition in conjunction with these items shifting you create an enhanced environment about you, your colleagues will ease a positive amount with time whilst you induce a schedule of it, while your supervisor is likely to appreciate and thank you in support of ! the alte ration you have acquired. In order to meditate at the workplace you are likely to be best off working with either a brief guided meditation or else a quiet meditation. In conjunction with a quiet meditation which I suggest, simply select a little point in front of you which you could focus on, alike the candle meditation which you possibly will have observed my tutorial for, next focus your complete attention on that dot. Every occasion you have a brain wave appear into your brain acknowledge that notion and after that disperse it into your position of focus and allow it to disintegrate into the universe leaving your brain empty and in the sphere of stillness. In conjunction with time and repetition this gets far easier and all the distractions about you shall completely disappear for the period of your meditation, the further you practice the further your stress reduces and disappears and the more peaceful your meditation becomes.Meditating in the course of breaks at work moreover grants you with a diverse alteration from your graft, permitting your brain to reset and rejuvenate which is what assists to mitigate your stress and as a result feel calmer and further serene. By practicing meditation within this manner you might moreover master meditation more hastily due to repeating regularly, as a result drawing you to deeper plateaus of contemplation and yielding enhanced serenity into your life and the lives of individuals surrounding you. It really is amazing the effect with the purpose of meditation has within the place of work, very noticably within what have been stressed workplaces, a more peaceful aura comes through yielding improved productivity and clearer interaction. So take some time and think in conjunction with forethought around how you might take meditation to your place of work, if you are able to meditate at your desk or else somewhere else inside your place of work I suggest you to do so, you possibly will well catch other folks wanting to join you after they observe the effects upon you! ! The Zen of the Barbell

Posted: 22 Jun 2012 10:00 AM PDT

Post written by Leo Babauta.

There was a time when I shunned lifting weights, because I felt they were unnecessary and for guys looking to get buff. I was also a bit fearful of them, because I didn't know much about them.

Today things are a bit different. I still think you can get a great workout without going to a gym, but I also love lifting barbells loaded with weights. There is something satisfying about putting your entire body into lifting something heavy, an activity so intense that it requires all of your attention.

There is Zen in the iron of the barbell, in the heft of the weights, and every session of lifting barbells is like zazen for me.

Consider my workout the other day:

  • I ran almost a mile, hard, focusing on my breath and the light touch of my feet on the ground as I sped along the concrete.
  • Then I lifted the weighted barbell from the ground — a deadlift — progressively adding weight from light to oh my goodness that's heavy. Every part of the lift required my attention, or I would either not lift the weight or injure myself: my hands gripping the iron, the alignment of my spine, the relation of my hips to the rest of my body, the force of pushing through my heels against the ground.
  • Finally I ran back home, hard, sprinting up the final hill with complete focus, finishing winded, panting, wiped out.

A few sets of heavy deadlifts between two hard short runs: a total body workout that stimulates every muscle, strengthens my bones, focuses my brain. That's a pretty good use of half an hour or so.

In other workouts, I will do heavy squats, the bench press, bent-over barbell rows, power cleans, push presses. I'll add in some weighted chin-ups and dips. These all work out my entire body, exhausting me in a short time. And as I do them, my mind is on almost nothing but my body, the barbell, and my breath.

I don't write this to suggest that everyone should lift barbells (though I think it's great, and more people should try them — women and those of us who are aging come to mind). I write this because the focus I learn from the practice of lifting the barbell is something so useful in daily life.

It is a practice, learning to be mindful of what you're doing right now, and not always thinking about what you have to do later. It's a practice that you get better at with repetition, as with anything. Does my mind never wander — do I have complete focus all the time? Of course not. I have the same monkey mind that anyone has, but the practice is learning to be aware of that wandering, learning to return your attention to what you're doing right now.

My mind starts to wander from the weights to the work I need to do later. I start thinking of all the things I need to do before my trip, or something I need to do with one of my kids, or how sweet pretty and loving my wife Eva is, and I miss her. But if I let myself stay in this future-thinking, the barbell will hurt me. I will round my back and pull a muscle (as I've done a few times before), or drop the weights on my chest or feet. This is a danger that won't allow me to be elsewhere, and so I come back from the future. I am here, right now, with a weight in my hands that must be pushed, or pulled.

The returning, and the staying with what I'm doing right now, is the practice. The awareness. I am not good at it, admittedly, but I have gotten better by doing it over and over.

This practice helps with anything I do. If I'm writing, my mind normally gets pulled in every direction, but if I'm to write something worthy of your attention, I have to return to the idea and the writing. I have to be aware of the urges to check email or Twitter, or the wandering to other things that might (or might not) happen later.

When I am with one of my children, I often am elsewhere, mentally. The practice helps me to return to them, to be with them only, and the moment becomes instantly better.

It makes the moments I have with my wife, on one of our dates, so much better. Our connection is more complete, more genuine.

It means that when I take a walk, it is an experience of walking and nature, and not a planning session. It means that a shower is a moment of cleansing, purifying, relaxing. It means a meal is an experience of savoring textures, flavors, smells.

Tea becomes a meditation ritual as well. So does a glass of red wine in the evening.

The barbell sits there, inert, not wanting anything, not expecting anything of me. It becomes a simple tool, one that must only be lifted up, against the forces created by a massive Earth, and put back down. A simple tool that is practice for a way of living — a bell of mindfulness.

The 5 Commandments for Saving Time and Reducing Stress

Posted: 22 Jun 2012 09:00 AM PDT

Busy

I know a lot of people who would give anything to get more done and in less time. They typically respond by freaking out, being rushed, and living a high stress life.

This stressful existence isn't the answer.

Instead, here's a chance to have both productivity and freedom from stress. Now I can't promise this will be easy, fun, or something to brag to friends about.  But, I can tell you this is very possible and that the answer lies in the 5 Commandments of Time Management.
  • Commandment #1: Organize your time
This first rule of thumb will make a dramatic difference in your effectiveness: keep one calendar and devote yourself to keeping it current. Stop spreading yourself thin between calendars on Outlook, on your smartphone, in your planner, and even on your kitchen refrigerator.

Life is busy, and there are far too many chances for an important event to fall through the cracks. Commit yourself to one trusted location for your appointments, meetings and events.

Yes, there will be other calendars you're issued at work, school or home, but those should be considered secondary. Spend a few minutes each morning transferring upcoming events from those calendars to your primary schedule. You'll save tons of time later by not scrambling to remember dates and times.

Equally important, be sure to always keep your calendar on-hand. Being able to pull-up your schedule in a split-second empowers you to make better choices when setting upcoming appointments and it takes pressure off you having to remember your schedule. Stick with this rule, and you'll take a better command of yo! ur time.

  • Commandment #2: Prioritize your time
You may be busy today, but are you the right kind of busy? It's all a matter of priorities. Far too often people spend their days doing busywork instead of focusing on the important tasks.

Here's how you prioritize what's important:

    1. Think about the top 5-10 items you want to accomplish today and make a to-do list in your daily planner. Keep it realistic to the time you have available.
    2. Prioritize your to-do list by ranking the activities by importance. Assign them a letter A, B, or C using this criteria:
      1. A tasks must be done today, and carry undesirable consequences if not completed
      2. B tasks need to get done, but you won't be penalized if not
      3. C tasks are things you want to do, can wait another day
      4. Number your tasks in the order you want to complete them with the most important tasks going first
Word of caution: Avoid the "kitchen sink" list, an overwhelmingly long list filled with everything that needs to get done, ever. It's a major source of one's anxiety and fears, and it sets you up for failure before you even get started. Instead, plan 3-5 high priority tasks you can realistically accomplish each day. You can spend 5-minutes each morning and effectively get your priorities set for the day. It's a vital step to getting more done and staying on track with what's important.

  • Commandment #3: Protect your time
Time is your most valuable currency, so don't allow yourself to waste it.

To do this you must avoid the common distractions that knock your productivity off-course. Try scheduling a daily "Distraction Free Hour" in your planner. Then, shut your door, unplug from the internet, turn off your phone, and blot out any other external noise that steals your time.

Another good way to defeat your worst procrastination habits! is to k eep a work log where you track what you've accomplished each hour. That way you can learn your weaknesses and self-correct. For example, if you often get sucked into Facebook and other entertainment websites then unplug and go offline for one hour, twice per day.

  • Commandment #4: Balance your time
You've long been told that success comes from working longer and harder, and by "burning the midnight oil." But it comes at a cost – your other commitments will suffer from neglect.

The key is to find balance between work and life. Here are some more suggestions:

    1. Choose a personal goal to work on each week and schedule tasks.
    2. Include activities from all categories of life in your daily to-do list.
    3. Schedule a repeating family event such as Thursday game night.
    4. Use the downtime in your day to accomplish personal tasks, such as reading, exercise, calling a friend, or meditation. Schedule these activities in your day planner calendar to ensure you don't skip it.
    5. Designate a daily exercise time, such as an early morning run or a lunchtime walk.
    6. Unplug at home. Turn off the television, internet and smartphone and enjoy the lost art of conversation with friends and family.

In order to be truly productive, you need to include tasks from all facets of life, like grocery shopping, fitness, yard work, personal finances, and of course quality family time.

Try one of the above ideas each week and you'll soon develop habits that create a more balanced life.

Healthcare Intravenous Warmers: Making Essential Healthcare Methods Available to Stress Sufferers

Posted: 22 Jun 2012 08:00 AM PDT

Article by George Mitchell Sr.

Medical units are more advantageous when they can be moved in between rooms or are transportable outside. IV fluids are used in each and every healthcare environment, including niche as well as outpatient treatment. These types of health care services make use of fluid warmers to supply their sufferers additional comfort while treatment methods are being provided. Elevated transportability eliminated the issue of warmer units being restricted to healthcare centers only. Healthcare IV fluid warmers have been made small enough to end up being used in almost any classic or specific environment. Niche uses consist of home infusion therapies, outpatient cancer treatment, dental surgery, and in some cases even cosmetic surgery. Outdoor niche providers often select to make use of mobile units for their lower cost and simplicity of use. Improvements for example electric batteries, weight reduction, as well as standardised fittings have made it easier to warm liquids in any outside healthcare setting. These devices permit medical experts to heat cooled down IV solutions, medications, as well as blood. Fluids should be kept cool to remain usable, but will become uncomfortable whenever provided to the entire body at the stored temperature. In circumstances where many quantities of fluid have to be administered there is a high risk for hypothermia. This is because of the individual's body temperature dropping suddenly as the cooler liquid enters the body. Fluid warmers are also a security measure to make sure the patient is safe all through therapy. Ultra Battery One: Decreased Weight Increases Device ManageabilityImprovement is consistently being made with these units to help to make their applications much more widespread. One particular innovation has been the alteration of electric battery weight and size to improve equipment range of motion. The Ultra Battery 1, together with other gear elements, has been renovated to provide an even lighter in weight system for use. A few companies have added a s! ignifica nt weight drop to the electric battery by as much as five lbs. When added to the lightweight design of the disposable fluid warmer, professionals get an uncomplicated portable device. Ultra Battery One renditions are just one example of exactly what manufacturers are doing to make their products more appealing to all healthcare sectors. Technology is different within the units to improve the consistency of heating provided. Professionals using more mature styles generally experienced the liquid getting too hot because of the warming method or used materials. Cartridges, casings, and proprietary fittings made these devices more costly and less attractive to use. The equipment needed to be cleaned after each and every set up, leading to complications such as infections. Fluid warmers were larger, difficult to move around, and could not be able to operate without a wall energy source. Today, producers are incorporating micro-processors to monitor heating. These elements pick up on flow rate differences and modify the temperature settings appropriately. Low mass heating units reduce the amount of residual warmth and eliminate most overheating issues. Standardised fittings allow it to be straightforward for any medical specialist or facility to use the warmers. Because fittings are created for one time use, all cleaning as well as disease possibilities have been eliminated. These modifications have made Medical Intravenous fluid warmers perfect in any kind of situation needing IV provided liquids. Battery alterations are merely an additional example of the gear providers ongoing commitment to improving the usability of warmers.

Article by Kathrinemoshier

Online Psychics and offline Psychics should be approached and received with an open mind. If your mind has pre-conceived ideas and expectations and other resistance within, a Psychic reader will have difficulty to reach in to your mind. If you want to get the maximum benefit out of a reading you should be able to keep an open mind.

Once a seeker maintains an open mind, the Psychic can reach better to the seekers calm and relaxed mind. It is important to maintain an open mind when you take a reading, during the reading and after it.

There are things you should do before you take a Psychic reading. It is important that you note down all the questions you intend to ask the Psychic. The questions should be clear and should help you to get the information you want to receive from the Psychic. Once you have prepared your questions, continue with your activities as usual so that your mind is relaxed and undisturbed. Before an hour to your visit to the online Psychic or land based Psychic, doing some breathing exercises will help you to clear your mind. Do not think about what the Psychic is going to tell you. During a Psychic reading it is important to keep yourself calm, relaxed and open. Ask the questions you have noted down and listen to what the Psychic has to say attentively. Note down them so that you can read it later. Do not add on your remarks or opinions to the note, just then. Here, your mind is at the receiving end.

Prescription Drug Problem Sparks Debate Over Solutions

One way to curb the large and growing problem of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. would be requiring doctors to use databases to record and track patients' prescriptions, experts say.

For example, a doctor about to write a prescription for the painkiller OxyContin could look up the patient in the database to see whether the drug had recently been prescribed by another doctor.

"They can help us discover addiction at an early stage," said Dr. Norman Wetterau, a specialist in addiction at the University of Rochester School of Medicine in New York, referring to databases called prescription drug monitoring programs. "You identify patients much earlier, before they overdose, before they get arrested, before these problems grow."

However, issues remain over how the programs should be administered. Currently, 37 states have prescription drug monitoring programs, but most do not require doctors to use them.

And some doctors want use of the databases to remain voluntary, saying that it is not the role of physicians to police drug use.

This week, the American Medical Association announced its opposition to any federal legislation that would "require physicians to check a prescription drug monitoring program."

Ultimately, fixing the prescription drug abuse problem will require a "multi-prong solution," the AMA said. Public education, as well as changes in physicians' interactions with patients may ease the problem, experts say.

Growing problem

Prescription drug abuse is an increasing problem.

About 16 million people in the U.S. ages 12 and older say that they have taken a prescription pain reliever, tranquilizer, stimulant or sedative for nonmedical purposes within the past year, according to a 2009 national survey.

Between 1999 and 2007, the number of accidental opioid overdoses in the U.S. increased from about 3,000 to 12,000. And over the last decade, there has been a fivefold increase in the number of people entering substance abuse programs for opioid addiction, according to a recent study.

Part of the reason for the rise in abuse is the increased availability of these medications. Between 1991 and 2010, prescriptions for opioid painkillers increased from 75.5 million to 209.5 million, while prescriptions for stimulants increased from 5 million to 45 million, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

In addition, some say doctors are under increasing pressure to give in to patients' wishes. Hospitals and practices use patient satisfaction surveys, among other measures, to judge doctors, and doctors are being taught to take patients' desires into account when prescribing drugs, said Dr. Stuart Gitlow, president of the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

"If you've got a patient satisfaction survey, and a patient comes requesting a narcotic or sedative," the easiest way to satisfy them is to give it to them, Gitlow said.

Improving databases

This year, New York became the first state to mandate that doctors check prescription drug monitoring databases before they prescribe a drug.

Dr. Robert Hughes, president of the Medical Society of the State of New York, said the mandate turns health care professionals into law enforcement officials.

"It's an inefficient system, it's time-consuming, and it takes the providers away from direct patient care," Hughes said.

Wetterau agreed that checking the database for every prescription is onerous, but said doctors should check at some point.

"It wouldn't be unreasonable to check the first time the patient sees you, and maybe every six months or every year," Wetterau said.  But doctors should not be forced by law to use the databases, he said.

"If you don't check cholesterol, we don't have you arrested," Wetterau said.

Rather, checking the databases should be one measure that insurance companies can use to decide whether to keep a doctor in their system.

Educating patients and doctors

Doctors shouldn't bear the sole responsibility for fighting the nation's prescription drug problem, experts say.

"It's very easy to blame the physicians or the dentists... or whoever's prescribing these medications, but there's plenty of blame to go around," Hughes said.

Patients don't think of these medications as dangerous, like guns or alcohol, and don't take the responsibility to properly store them, Hughes said. "These medications are being left in the home in a careless way," Hughes said, where they can be accessed by children and even thieves.

"We feel very strongly that education of the public must be a component," in fixing the problem, Hughes said.

Gitlow said its important that doctors use scientific knowledge, rather than patient satisfaction, as the driving factor in determining whether a patient needs prescription drugs.

"My goal when I'm treating a patient is not for the patient to be satisfied," Gitlow said. "My goal is for the patient to be better."

"Often those two are one and the same, but not always. Particularly not in circumstances in which they're seeking medications that they think help them get better, but we know better," he said.

Pass it on:  Electronic databases that track patients' drug prescriptions may help ease prescription drug abuse, but won't solve the problem alone.

Loving kindness meditation part-1

Loving kindness or Metta meditation is a meditation of care, concern, tenderness, loving kindness, friendship -- a feeling of warmth for oneself and others. The practice is the softening of the mind and heart, an opening to deeper and deeper levels of the feeling of kindness, of pure love. Loving kindness is without any desire to possess another. It is not a sentimental feeling of goodwill, not an obligation, but comes from a selfless place. It does not depend on relationships, on how the other person feels about us. The process is first one of softening, breaking down barriers that we feel inwardly toward ourselves, and then those that we feel toward others. www.lifecoachformysuccess.com

Hold your wants lightly

Posted: 22 Jun 2012 06:00 AM PDT

Getting caught up in wanting – wanting both to get what's pleasant and to avoid what's unpleasant – is a major source of suffering and harm for oneself and others.

First, a lot of what we want to get comes with a big price tag – such as that second cupcake, constant stimulation via TV and websites, lashing out in anger, intoxication, over-working, or manipulating others to get approval or love. On a larger scale, the consumer-based lifestyle widespread in Western nations leads them to eat up – often literally – a huge portion of the world's resources.

Similarly, much of what we want to avoid – like the discomfort of speaking out, some kinds of psychological or spiritual growth, standing up for others, exercising, being emotionally vulnerable, or really going after one's dreams – would actually be really good for oneself and others.

Learn how to Stress-Proof Your Brain with Rick Hanson, Ph.D.

Second, some wants are certainly wholesome, such as wishing that you and others are safe, healthy, happy, and living with ease; it's natural to want to give and receive love, to express yourself creatively, to be OK financially, to be treated with respect, to make a big contribution, or to rise high in your career. And many things in life are pleasurable – some of my personal favorites are morning coffee with my wife, walking in wilderness, watching the SF Giants win the World Series last year, seeing kids flourish, writing these JOTs, and laughing with friends at dinner.

But even with wholesome wants and pleasures, trouble comes when we get driven about them – grasping after them, insisting that they continue, craving and clinging, taking it personally when there's a hitch, getting pushy, or staying in a tunnel with no cheese. The art is to pursue wholesome desires with enthusiasm, discipline, and skill without getting all hot and bothered about them – and to enjoy life's pleasures without getting attached to them.

For even the most enjoyable and fulfilling experiences always end. You are routinely separated from things you enjoy. And someday that separation will be perma¬nent. Friends drift away, children leave home, careers end, and eventually your own final breath comes and goes. Everything that begins must also cease. Everything that comes together must also disperse.

Given this truth, grabbing after or clutching onto the things we want is hopeless and painful. To use an analogy from the Thai meditation master Ajahn Chah: if getting upset about something unpleasant is like being bitten by a snake, grasping for what's pleasant is like grabbing the snake's tail; sooner or later, it will still bite you.

Therefore, holding wants lightly is helpful in everyday life, bringing you more ease and less trouble from your desires, and creating less trouble for others – even across the world. And if you take it all the way to its end, holding wants lightly is a powerful vehicle for liberation from all of the suffering rooted in desire.

How?

For starters, be aware of wanting inside your own mind. Try to notice:

  • The ways in which desiring itself feels subtly tense or uncomfortable.
  • The emotional pain of not getting what you want. Including disappointment, frustration, discouragement-perhaps even hopelessness or despair.
  • The frequent discrepancy between the rewards you expected to get from a want, and what it actually feels like to fulfill it.

Similarly, notice that the anticipated pain from the things you want to avoid – especially things that would be good for you to open to or go after – is usually worse than the discomfort you actually feel. In effect, your brain is routinely lying to you, promising more pleasure and more pain than you will actually experience. The reason is that the pleasure and pain circuits of the brain are ancient and primitive, and they manipulated our ancestors to do things for their survival by overselling them about apparent opportunities and over-frightening them about apparent risks.

  • The costs of pursuing the things you want, and the costs of trying to avoid some of the actually beneficial things you don't want. What is the cost/benefit ratio, really?
  • The ways that every pleasant experience must inevitably change and end.

Next, imagine you are observing your wants from a great distance, like seeing them from on top of a mountain as if they are down in a valley below. Let them and go like clouds in the vast sky of awareness. They are just one more mental content, like sensations, thoughts, or memories. Don't give them special status. They are just wants. You don't need to act on them. Usually, they'll just pass away after awhile.

Then, on paper or in your mind, make a list of problematic wants:

  • Things you've wanted to get but are either not good for you or others, or come with too high a price.
  • Things you've wanted to avoid, but are actually good for you and others.

Live with this list. Stare at it. Listen to what it says to you. Perhaps talk about it with others (maybe a therapist). Then make a plan for what you are committing to do about it. Honor this plan; if possible, tell others about it.

Also list wholesome wants that you would like to pursue more. (Some of these may be suggested implicitly by the list above of what you've wanted to avoid.) Hang out with this list for awhile, perhaps discussing it with others. Then make a sincere plan for what you are committing to do about it. Your wholesome wants will help crowd out the unwholesome ones.

I know what I am suggesting here about these two lists is a big deal, much easier said than done. I've been grappling lately with a couple of my own items on these lists, and it's not easy. But we can be aware of our issues forever – even mindfully aware! – while still never doing anything about them.

After you've stared at the garden for awhile … it's time to pull weeds and plant flowers.

Guided Meditation CD - Is Listening To Them Safe? Should You Waste Your Money On Them?

Posted: 22 Jun 2012 05:00 AM PDT

Article by Terri Hill

With all the guided meditation CD products on the market today you might think that they are a sure fire way to revolutionizing your life, right? Well, yes and no...

Are you confused? Let me explain:

The benefits of meditation are undeniable. I mean, for literally thousands of years now meditation techniques have been helping people to develop a state of tranquillity, calmness, and inner peace, and also to help them grow as a person on many levels.

Ok, so because meditation can be highly beneficial, it stands to reason that listening to guided meditation cd's should also be highly beneficial as well right?

Well, that all depends on a few different things:

1. What is your purpose for meditating?2. The quality and effectiveness of the guided meditation you listen to

Now, for the sake of this article I am just going to assume that most people are looking to meditate to become more relaxed, reduce stress and to work towards achieving an overall state of well being in their lives. That would be pretty good right?

To achieve this, you would actually be pretty safe in purchasing a large percentage of the guided meditation cd products on the market today, simply because they are typically made up of soothing music and sometimes have a person guiding you with words into a meditative state. So far so good.

Will these products work? Generally speaking yes. If you listen to them on a daily basis and practice meditating with them you will definitely get benefits, as long as you are effective at focusing and quieting your mind down into a deeply relaxed state.

Now, this is where a lot of people run into trouble! They simply cannot allow their minds to 'let go' or to keep the 'mind chatter' at bay long enough to actually quiet their mind and receive the benefits they are seeking from doing the meditation in the first place...

So if you are the type of person that has trouble focusing on things, relaxing and keeping your mind from being overactive (w! hich is a large percentage of the population!) then purchasing the usual type of guided meditation products can actually be a bit of a waste of time and money for you! I mean, over time you might be able to get better at meditating and get some benefit, but the cold hard reality is that a lot of people get fed up with the whole thing and give up before they have really gotten anywhere...

Now, how can you overcome this common problem with meditation? Simply by choosing to practice using a specific type of guided meditation, that is scientifically based, proven and can in fact be guaranteed to guide your mind down into the deep meditative states of mind that you are seeking!

Sounds too good to be true doesn't it? Well, the type of meditation I am talking about uses special audio technology to 'train your brain' using scientifically based frequencies woven into soothing sound tracks that will after just 6 minutes of listening to them, will guide your mind into specific brainwave frequencies that provide you with all the amazing benefits of meditation!

The best part is, because this type of recording is engineered to guide your mind automatically into the right brainwave state, you don't have to worry about whether or not you are meditating effectively or not... The hard work is all done for you! You just simply put on your headphones, kick back relax and listen and let your mind be taken where it needs to go!

Ladakh, Land of high Passes

Posted: 22 Jun 2012 04:00 AM PDT

Article by Raj Tamang

Ladakh, literally the 'land of high passes', separates the peaks of Western Himalaya from the vast Tibetan plateau. Opened up to tourism in 1974, Ladakh is often called 'Little Tibet', due to its similarities in topography and culture with nearby Tibet. This is particularly evident in the Indus Valley with its whitewashed Gompas (Buddhist monasteries) precariously perched on hillsides. Padum, the capital of more remote Zanskar, shares this Buddhist heritage, as does the Nubra valley, while Kargil and the Suru valley are predominantly Shiite Muslim.

HistoryLadakh's earliest inhabitants were Khampa nomads, who grazed their yaks on the high pastures. The first settlements, along the upper Indus, were established by Buddhist pilgrims on their way from India to Mount Kailash in Tibet. The Brokpa (or Dards) who today live in Dha-Hanu are the last Buddhist Indo Aryan people.

In the 9th century, Ladakh's influence extended beyond the Indus Valley and during this time many forts and palaces were constructed. In the late 14th century, Tsongkhapa, a Tibetan pilgrim introduced Gelukpa Buddhist order headed by the first Dalai Lama, into Ladakh. The new order flourished and led to the founding of Gompas at Thiksey, Likir and Spituk.

In the ensuing years, Muslim armies pressed Ladakh from the west, with Ali Mir of Baltistan eventually capturing the province. Fortunes were revived under the rule of Singge Namgyal (1570-1642), who, in addition to making territorial gains, established Leh as the capital, constructing his palace there. During this period, the Ladakhi royal family assisted Brokpa monks in establishing Gompas in Hemis and Stakna. In 1685, Ladakh was threatened from the North, and only alliance with the Mughals helped repel the Mongol-Tibetan army. Ladakh remained nominally independent but the Mughals exacted a crippling tribute in return.Ladakh's fortune changed again in the 1830's when a Dogra army under Zorawar Singh invaded Ladakh from Jammu and exiled the king to Stok.

Ladak! h became a part of the Dogra state of Kashmir in 1846, and has been ruled from Jammu and Srinagar ever since.

In 1995, the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) was formed to answer Ladakhi concerns about being governed from afar. Most Ladakhis see few ties with troubled Kashmir, and have lobbied for Union Territory status for Ladakh. Since 2002, the Ladakh Union Territory Front has carried all before it at elections but with India reluctant to entertain the disassembling of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh will have to wait some time yet for its much-coveted autonomy.

Geography Ladakh is bound by mountains. To the north the mighty peaks of Rimo I (7385m) and Teram Khangri I (7466m) in the Ladakh range mark the border with China, while in the south the slopes of the Stok range grow in size until they merge with the Zanskar mountains. In the west, the snow-capped peaks of Nun (7135m) and Kun (7087m) are the gatekeepers of the Great Himalaya.

Amid the mountains, life centers on Ladakh's many river valleys. The Indus Valley drains much of the region, joined by the Zanskar and Suru Rivers to the west. In the east of Ladakh there are several lakes, including the huge Pangong Tso, which reaches into Tibet, Tso Kar and Tso Moriri, set in the high-altitude desert characteristic of the Tibetan plateau. Nepal, Tibet and the Himalayas - Tibetan Chant sung by Dechen

This video features photos from the region, a few Buddhist quotes and a Tibetan chant - Men-Lha, sung by Dechen Shak Dagsay, (her music can be purchased through New Earth Records.) I have always loved mountains of any type anywhere but the taller the more awesome. I have not visited there but would love to, not just for the scenery but for the people. I appreciate much of Buddhist thinking regarding mindfulness and emptiness. I find many of their beliefs to be inherently truthful. I have the greatest respect for Tibetans who have persevered under Chinese control for so very long. I am a great admirer of the Dalai Lama who leads his people and his beliefs by example.

Subconscious Mind Power – Three Set Blocks to Avoid

Posted: 22 Jun 2012 03:00 AM PDT

Article by John Stewart

Subconscious mind power, the power of the mind, is vast beyond our wildest imaginings. Yet it can be limited and blocked by negative thoughts, thoughts of your failures, thoughts of self doubt, worrying thoughts.

Subconscious mind power, the power of the mind beyond your conscious being, is vast. So vast indeed that it could help you overcome the direst of obstacles and win you the best of your abilities. It is the power that dictates your body and your action in absence of a conscious decision to do otherwise. It is the source from which intuition springs, as does talent, and what you would call luck. It can bring joy to your life when unleashed. It could also bring sorrow and discomfort when blocked. You would achieve a lot if your subconscious mind power is not blocked by thought patterns such as the ones below.

1. Dwelling On Your Failures – You must learn from your mistakes. But dwelling on them, wishing you had done better would only decrease your subconscious mind power. It does not help you in any way. It only makes you feel negative. Instead let go of them and think what you could do better and then do it.

2. Worrying About Your Future – Honestly what can it do? If by worrying you could make your life easy and your future bright then the most successful people would have been the people who have worried the most. But it is not so. It is the people who have concentrated on the present who have achieved great things. Even if you do not want to be great, even if you just want to be happy, worrying won't help. All worrying really does is bring down your subconscious mind power.

3. Thinking That You Don't Have Enough – Thinking that you don't have enough would set a lack about you which would be much bigger than the actual absence that you have. It affects your thoughts, makes you negative, decreases your subconscious mind power, and all in all decreases the quality of your life. Instead, looking at what you have and working with it will bring you happier results! .

Your subconscious is a realm of thoughts. It is an abstract realm but with power to affect your mind and through it your actions, and your life. Being a realm of thought, it is also affected by negative thoughts. Worries, inhibitions, harmful thoughts affect your subconscious negatively. And a subconscious thus affected won't let you reach it, let alone use its potential. It would be like trying to burn a log which is wet and green. It wouldn't catch fire but would smolder and cause smoke. To use your subconscious mind power, keep your thoughts and frame of mind positive. Purge the negative.

Stress Relief Solution : Connection

Posted: 22 Jun 2012 12:00 AM PDT

Article by Angela Bussio

<pHaving true stress relief means understanding the importance of having connections!

One common contributor to stress is social isolation- or not having emotional, intimate connections with others. Having relationships with other human beings is important for good mental and emotional health, and is an effective method of coping with stress. Without social contact, loneliness and depression can set in, increasing stress levels.Studies done over two decades and involving more than thirty-seven thousand people show that social isolation- feeling that you have nobody with whom you can share your private feelings or have close contact--doubles the chances of sickness or death.

Solitude - or being alone itself is not what makes it dangerous for humans- because many people live alone and see few people and are happy. Rather, it is the psychological feeling of having no one to turn to that puts people at medical risk--and this can happen even when people are surrounded by others but have no feeling of connection.

According to a 1987 report in Science, these risks were "as significant to mortality rates as smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity and lack of physical exercise."

This seems to be more true for men than for women. Daniel Coleman in his book Emotional Intelligence states that "among men who said they had a dependable web of intimacy--a wife, close friends,. . .there was no relationship whatever between high stress levels and death. Having people to turn to, to talk with, people who can offer solace, help and suggestions, protected them from the deadly impact of life's rigors and trauma."

It's especially important to have at least one close confidante that you feel you can trust and talk openly with. Discussing problems, fears, hopes and dreams helps to decrease stress levels. It takes the entire weight of a problem off of you. Another person can provide sympathy, support and may even be able to help with a solution. Also, feeling like you aren! 't alone in life is a big comfort.

Being involved with groups of people who share common goals, complaints, aspirations seems to have as much impact as one close friend. Actively seeking out clubs, hobby groups, churches can go a long way in providing the social support that can ease your stress.

The Importance of Service

However, just having someone to talk to is not as effective as also having someone to do something FOR. It turns out that listening to another's problems or doing something for someone else can have an equally great effect on managing your stress. Offering service and compassion seems to be as important as receiving it!

In a study of rats, by Jay Weiss at Rockefeller University, they would take one lab rat and shock it, and in the other corner of the cage, was a rat that it knows and likes. They would allow the shocked rat to run over to the rat it knows and likes, and they would groom each other. The rats who had this kind of "social support" would not get ulcers. Nurturing each other in stress has benefits for all parties- whether rats, or humans!

Forgiveness

The quality of relationships in managing our stress is also important. One study by John Cacioppo of Ohio State University of college roommates found that the more they disliked each other, the more often they got colds and went to the doctor. He concluded , "It's the most important relationships in your life that seem to be crucial for your health. The more significant the relationship is in your life, the more it matter for your health.

Betrayal, violence, and just plain insensitivity: People can hurt us in a million ways, and forgiveness isn't always easy. Most of us are faced with a variety of situations that we can choose to hold on to, or to forgive. But forgiveness, like so many things in life, is easier said than done.

Forgiveness can be a challenge for several reasons: • Forgiveness can be confused with condoning what someone has done to us: "That's OK. Why not do it again?" • ! Forgiven ess can be difficult when the person who wronged us doesn't seem to deserve it.• It's hard to let go of what's happened. While this is hard to remember, forgiveness benefits the forgiver more than the one who is forgiven. Here are some reasons why its important to let go:

• Forgiveness is good for your heart: -- literally. One study from the Journal of Behavioral Medicine found forgiveness to be associated with lower heart rate and blood pressure as well as stress relief. This can bring long-term health benefits for your heart and overall health.• Forgiveness to be positively associated with five measures of health: physical symptoms, medications used, sleep quality, fatigue, and somatic complaints. It seems that the reduction in negative affect (depressive symptoms), strengthened spirituality, conflict management and stress relief one finds through forgiveness all have a significant impact on overall health, this from a later study of the Journal Of Behavioral Medicine.

• Forgiveness restores positive thoughts, feelings and behaviors toward the offending party . Forgiveness can sometimes restore the relationship to its previous positive state , found in a study in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin.

The benefits of forgiveness spill over to positive behaviors toward others outside of the relationship. Forgiveness is associated with:• More service to others and volunteering, • Donating more time and money to charity • Other altruistic behaviors.

And the opposite is true of those who hold on to grudges and do not forgive

Forgiveness is good for your body, your relationships, and your place in the world. Energy Psychology Methods outlined in the Manage Your Emotions section of this book are great tools for dealing with letting go of negative feelings towards others.

How Can I forgive?

Here are some suggestions on how you can start on the path of forgiveness:

Express YourselfIf the relationship is important to you and you would like ! to maint ain it:

• Tell the other person -- in non-threatening language -- how their actions affected you.

• If the person is no longer in your life, if you want to cut off the relationship, just write a letter and tear it up (or burn it) and move on. People don't need to know that you've forgiven them; forgiveness is more for you than for the other person.

It helps to put your feelings into words as part of letting go.

Look For the PositiveJournaling about a situation where you were hurt or wronged can help you process what happened and move on; however, the way you write about it and what you choose to focus on can make all the difference in how easy it becomes to forgive:

• Journal about the benefits you've gotten from a negative situation -- rather than focusing on the emotions you have surrounding the event,

• Writing about something unrelated - this can actually help you to forgive and move on more easily.

Start writing about the silver lining next time you find someone raining on your parade, or keep an ongoing gratitude journal and forgive a little every day.

Cultivate Empathy- walk in their shoesWhile you don't have to agree with what the other person did to you, when working on how to forgive, it often helps to put yourself in the other person's shoes. Research has shown that empathy, particularly with men, is associated with forgiveness, and can make the process easier. Instead of seeing them as 'the enemy":

• Try to understand the factors that they were dealing with.

• Were they going through a particularly difficult time in their lives?

• Have you ever made similar mistakes?

• Try to remember the other person's good qualities.

• Assume that their motives were not to purposely cause you pain (unless you have clear indicators otherwise). You may find it easier to forgive. A great tool for learning how to do this is Byron Katie's The Work

Protect Yourself and Move OnBlanket forgiveness of someone w! ho is co ntinually hurting you isn't necessarily a good idea for your emotional health. One of my favorite clichés is: 'First time, shame on you; second time, shame on me.' However, you don't need to hold a grudge in order to protect yourself. Doing the following can help:

• Forgiveness is not the same as condoning the offending action.

• It is always OK (and sometimes vital) to include self-protective plans for the future as part of the process.

• Make a plan to address the behavior and strategically plan how and when you will see the person you are trying to forgive will bring the benefits of forgiveness without opening you up to further abuse.

• Get Help if You Need itIf you're still having difficulty knowing how to forgive someone who's wronged you in a significant way, you may have better success working with a therapist who can help you work through your feelings on a deeper level and personally support you through the process.

When you've been hurt, figuring out how to forgive can be difficult. These strategies should be helpful in your journey of letting go and releasing the stress of the past.

Connecting Spiritually

Another aspect of connection has to do with spirituality, or connecting to a power greater than yourself. It is a fairly undeniable fact (verified by many scientific studies too numerous to list here) that spiritual/religious belief is associated with a longer life span.

There is enormous complexity around this issue- because religiosity or spirituality does not come in one flavor. There are all types ofspiritual/religious belief systems. However, it appears that those who adopt some form of spiritual belief and practice it have the following benefits:• Protection from Cardiovascular Disease• Less Depression• Increased Life Expectancy

Inspiration

Why would this be true? I believe it is because spirituality and religious belief fosters the idea of some great purpose beyond just ourselves. In this stat! e, we be come what is called "inspired".

Consider this thought from Patanjali:"When you are inspired, dormant forces, faculties, and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be."

Dr. Wayne Dyer, in his book Inspiration said about Patanjali's statement, "I love Patanjali for teaching me this powerful truth. Essentially he's telling us that when we move into an awareness of inspiration, forces we thought were wither dead or unavailable come alive and are available for us to use to manifest our inspired desires. Could this be true? Does the universe collaborate with us in awakening long-slumbering forces, faculties and talents?"

If its true that when we are inspired we discover we are "far greater" than we had imagined- this is a positive state! If we have faith in a higher power's ability to help us, and that we are never really alone- this fills a huge need of connection.

Control and Connection, and self esteem all seem to be handled with this one paradigm- all great advantages when you are dealing with stress.

Healing Separation Anxiety

In the Course In Miracles, it states, "A sense of separation from God is the only lack you really need to correct." So how can we correct this separation if that is our current reality?

Here are some suggestions to start making a spiritual connection if you have not done it for awhile, or maybe never:• It takes Faith: Bridging this spiritual gap will require believing that it is possible for you to do. Do you? Could you? You will only see what you believe.• Spend some time each day in silent mediation and prayer asking to heal that separation and that you will feel it when it is healed.• Read inspirational, spiritual literature everyday.

Making both human and spiritual connections is an important factor in having true stress relief, and is an important factor to keep in mind when trying to find ways to manage your stress. For more innovative 21st century ! stress m anagement solutions go to http://www.RealStressSolutions.com

Like a type of physical workout, Yoga certainly is a power to be reckoned with. But just how can one particular go about applying yoga for newcomers? Its my hope that like a Yoga practitioner and fanatic, this post might be of help in this regard.

If you have been considering learning yoga or have recently started a yoga apply, I hope to supply you with some beneficial and valuable recommendations in which may be helpful to you in employing yoga for rookies.

They mildly physical exercise the arms and legs and so are usually suggested for weight problems, despair and health and fitness. Pals, several Martial Artists, Indian and African Wrestlers perform a lot of rounds of those exercises on your own, so in finding out yoga, for novic! es, this can be an assured must-know.

The Shoulder Stand: Dont be intimidated from the name whatsoever. Even to get a newbie, this yoga pose is actually a bit of cake, definitely. It is actually actually a really significant pose even though, arguably by far the most important as its Sanskrit name (Savangasana) truly signifies the "all members" or "all limbs" pose, which means it impacts all elements of the body. As a newbie, be conscious that some poses (including this one particular) do have precise counter poses, so if youre using a Yoga for newbie course or understanding from a DVD, ensure you are taught these poses to counter-act and stability the results from the Shoulder-stand pose over the body, these are the Bridge and fish poses. Heres a hint or ratio to abide by in their mixed execution: 6:1:2 , which means the bridge and fish poses needs to be held for any sixth and 3rd in the time you invest within the Shoulder-stand Pose respectively.

The Corpse Pose: Youve obtained to learn this Yoga Pose as a newbie. Its the peace pose thats normally executed through and immediately after your session like an indicates of comforting the muscle tissues utilized for the yoga exercise. At the end of a session, it can be commonly done for about 15 minutes and 1 generally arrives out feeling refreshed following its execution.

Arguably, they are the 3 main poses youve got to lay emphasis on in understanding yoga to get a newbie, but there are actually other poses that really should be incorporated while you go additional. Theyre

Even so, due to the fact Iyengar Yoga seems to include a great deal of props that will aid till flexibility is re-gained or enhanced, it might be certainly one of the a lot easier possibilities to choose. Spiritual Fortitude

Posted: 21 Jun 2012 10:01 PM PDT

Article by G.I.A. Devotions

Mary Poppins is "practically perfect in every way." Real people, however, find it difficult to consistently proceed with perfection. We are told to abide by God's teachings, but perfection - for us mere mortals - is not attainable. We want to follow in Christ's footsteps. But let's face it: those are some pretty big shoes to fill. What a relief it is to know that God doesn't expect us to imitate His perfection. He does, however, require us to attempt righteousness. "There is none righteous, no not one... For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." Romans 3:10b & 23

Outside her classroom, a teacher hung a sign on the door that said: "Welcome to class, where we strive for progress, not perfection." Our Heavenly Father instructs us to do the same. He knows that we will falter, fall prey to the evil one, and (often inadvertently) commit sin after sin. Just like any parent, however, God wants his children to avoid doing wrong and strive to make good choices. "And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right." 2nd Thessalonians 3:13

God wants us to learn from the mistakes we inevitably make. He wants us to come to Him for forgiveness and then turn away from our humanly wicked ways. No matter how badly we mess up, if we only confess our sins, God has promised to forgive us. In fact, our sins have already been paid for when Jesus bled and died on the cross for us - more than 2000 years before we were even born. "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9

How can we repay the priceless gift of eternal life? You already know the answer. We honor God by making a commitment to obey His rules. He gave us these laws so that we can live in peace and with purpose. The Bible teaches us that if we know God, we will keep his commandments. Being good is a by-product of loving the Lord. "You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is the fullness of jo! y." Psal m 16:11a

We have a loving Father who has set down some ground rules for living a safe and fulfilling life. He knows we aren't going to make it through a day without sinning. He knows we aren't perfect. He allowed us to have free will so that we can choose to follow Him. We don't follow Him because we have to. We follow Him because we love him. If we have accepted Jesus as our personal savior, we will make a conscious effort to live each day in a way that is pleasing to the Lord. "...If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9

Connect with the Arcturians: A Guided Meditation to Meet in Oneness

Have a personal connection with the Arcturians, simply by being open and ready to receive their love and light. They will connect strongly with all those who view this video. Essentially, it's a meditation from beginning to end. The Arcturians slowed Sudevi's rate of speech, and added many gaps between her words. In these gaps, and through this quantifiable reduction in speed, they communicate. Make the video a meditation by watching it intensely, listening intensely, and allowing your mind to do whatever it does in the gaps between words. "Feel our Love and Light flow to you and through you. We are the Arcturians, and We Love You."

How Can I Lose 10 Pounds In A Week By Using The Power Of My Mind

Posted: 21 Jun 2012 10:00 PM PDT

Article by Joanne Hill

Mind over Matter: Setting up your mind to weight loss

Matter generally refers to anything that has weight and takes up space. But the word can also refer to any particular situation in which an individual might get caught; especially one which involves some amount of problem. .Everybody knows weight loss is a huge matter; especially when fat occupies just too much space in the body. It can be the root of all sickness; it can lead to a poor quality life with some people even suffering from low self-esteem.

In the Diet Solutions Program created by Isabel De Los Rios, weight loss is the main target of the program. But it's not all about losing 10 pounds or just getting that sexy body, it's about living a healthier life with the right food, the right activities and practices, and of course, having the right mind set to stick with the required program.

The question is, how can one attain the right mind set? Well, Isabel shares with her readers five steps on how to prepare the mind in achieving weight loss goals.

Step 1: Detox Your MindJust like the body, the mind when full of toxins cannot function as it is supposed to. It is therefore best to stop entertaining negative influences which are the toxins of the mind and start focusing on achieving goals. When the mind is clear and free from discouragements and memories of failed experiences, the mind gets more time to do what it is supposed to be doing. This can lead to a lifestyle transformation.

Step 2: Believing is SeeingIn losing weight, it's not exactly "seeing is believing" but the other way around. When one starts to believe in his or her capabilities, positive results follow instantly. Success only comes to those who believe in themselves and not to those who are always in doubt.

Step 3: Disinfect the MindObsessing over past failures or possible future problems is a big mistake. Negative thinking is like bacteria that spreads and causes infection destroying the body. Remember, the! se bacte ria are opportunity-seekers; they strike instantly when given the chance. So stop it from spreading by disinfecting the mind from pessimism.

Step 4: 24/7 Work LoadIt's a commitment, period. A fit body and a healthy lifestyle are not something that will land on your front step with a single push of a button. It will require perseverance, discipline and hard work just like any of life's aspirations. Losing weight is not supposed to be a temporary goal but a lifetime commitment; a lifestyle transformation. So it is always going to be a work in progress that needs round-the-clock attention.

Step 5: Be your Own MotivatorIn every aspiration, there will be a moment of uncertainty. Isabel suggests in her book that one way to overcome this is to make a self-affirmation card. It should contain positive statements that you should recite a few times daily to remind yourself of your goals and capabilities. So whether the goal is to lose 10 pounds in a week, a flat belly in a month or get that lean body in a year, with this self-esteem booster, anyone on a mission towards a healthy body will be motivated towards their goals.

Thai Buddhism - Thailand Buddhism in Present Day

Posted: 21 Jun 2012 09:00 PM PDT

Article by Arjanyai

Looking back on Thai history, we see clearly the close relationship between Buddhism and the Thai nation. The history of the Thai nation is also the history of Buddhism. The Thai nation originated over 2,000 years ago. Also in that same period Buddhism came and has played an important part in the Thai history ever since. The Thai nation settled firmly in present-day Thailand 700 years ago. Also seven centuries ago it adopted the present form of Buddhism.

Buddhism is still the state religion of Thailand. Under the Constitution, the King, as a symbol of the nation, although protector of all religions, must be a Buddhist. According to the latest census, the total population of Thailand is 48 million. Out of this number, 93.4 percent are Buddhists. Buddhism has had a deep influence in the Thai arts, traditions, learning and the character of the people. It has modelled their manner of thinking and acting. In short, it has become an integral part of Thai life. The charm that has caused Thailand to be called the Land of Smiles undoubtedly comes from the influence of Buddhism over her people. Realizing these facts, the Thai rulers have taken the responsibility for the protection and promotion of Buddhism.

The rulers of Thailand have encouraged and supported Buddhism by building and maintaining monasteries, by providing the monks with material necessities and facilities for performing religious duties, by patronizing their educational activities such as the Buddhist Councils for revising the Tripitaka and having the scriptures translated into Thai, and by reforming the Sangha and appointing able Supreme Patriarchs to govern the Order. Since B.E. 2446 (1903 C.E.) the State has even enacted the laws forming the Constitution under which the Sangha governs itself.

The Department of Religious Affairs has been established in the Ministry of Education to achieve close cooperation between the Order and the Government and to provide a channel through which the Sangha can communicate with governmen! t author ities and through, which the State can promote the well-being of the Sangha.

Four Buddhist holy days are recognized by the Government as nationalholidays, namely, the Magha Puja Day, the Visakha Puja Day, the Asalha Puja Day and the Khao Pansa Day. Nearly all state and public ceremonies are blessed by the participation and chanting of senior members of the Order. The people also invite monks to chant the Sutras and protective formulas for their blessing and protection in all household rites such as housewarmings, birthday celebrations and weddings, and especially to conduct funeral rites and memorial services for the benefit of the deceased. Even lustral or consecrated water is used at most of the auspicious ceremonies. Other forms of animistic and Brahmanic beliefs can also be seen mingled with these popular Buddhist practices.

In Bangkok, the skyline is pierced by the spires of pagodas and stupas, especially those of Wat Arun (the Temple of Dawn) and the Golden Mount. "In the rice lands a traveler is seldom out of the sight of a phra chedi (Cetiya) or stupa towering above the village trees. In the less populous sections of the countries are sacred caves, 'footprints' of Buddha, and on many a steep and isolated hill a greying cetiya visible for miles around."1 Bronze and stone images of the Buddha are constantly found in unexpected places while digging the land for irrigation, road-construction and other purposes. Buddhism has thus become rooted in the soil of Thailand both literally and metaphorically.

Why I Love Christian Yoga

Posted: 21 Jun 2012 08:00 PM PDT

Article by Rhonda Jones

Recently I entered my yoga studio feeling restless and anxious. Each week, the instructor asks us to check in with what we're feeling and then to set an intention for our practice. On this particular evening, I was feeling restless and my intention is to get grounded and centered in Christ. As we transitioned through session, she continued to remind us to connect with our intention and to bring our minds back to the present moment. By the end of the hour long session, my mind was at peace.

Many Christians see yoga as an obstruction to Christianity. I see it as an enhancement. Like meditation, Christ-centered yoga (and other various forms) acts as a chasm or tunnel that ushers me to enter into the deeper chambers (the presence) of God. It does this by helping me to clear away the weights, worries, and the negative mindsets that so easily latch onto me as I go through the day and then to release them to Christ. Colossians 3 tells us to put off the old man. Through subduing of the body and controlling the breath, the choreography of yoga can calm the restless beast in each of us, allowing us to open our hearts more fully to our Creator.

Paul explained in 1 Corinthians 10:29-31 regarding food offered to idols, "For why is my freedom being judged by another's conscience? If I take part in the meal with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of something I thank God for? So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." That's how I see yoga. In 1 Corinthians 8:4, Paul goes on to say, "We know that an idol is nothing at all in the world and that there is no God but one. For even if there are so called gods, whether in heaven or on the earth (as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords) yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live and there is but one Lord…"

Currently I am in a yoga teachers training program. At one point I was an instructor for a Christian yoga alternative program, which was good; how! ever, I wanted greater skill and confidence in this practice. I wanted to know proper form and alignment to prevent injuries. I would have attended a Christian yoga training program but I needed something local as I'm not a very good online learner. I need a classroom and structure.

Although am learning about yoga philosophy there is no emphasis on serving or worshipping pagan gods. In fact, the bulk of my training is on teaching the asanas (poses) safely, beautifully, and with the greatest health benefit to my students. If I had one complaint about yoga, it is that yoga (as a spiritual practice) does not profess that Jesus Christ is Lord, but neither do Zumba, Pilates, Kickboxing or the martial arts. Worship comes from the heart of the participant. The Bible says, whatever you do, do it unto the Lord. God leaves that decision up to us.

In yoga they have what are called yamas or niyamas. These are principles for living. A few of them include "do not covet," "practice chastity," "promote non-violence", "practice truthfulness," "be content," and "surrender to your higher self (God)." In every yama or niyama I hear the words of Jesus, God, or the disciples. These truths strengthen me and support my beliefs in Christ, not take away from it. It cosigns everything I know about God and the Bible. We are taught that the ultimate goal of yoga is to clear away our false self, our ego and all its conditioning, so that our true self, our God-self can come through. It doesn't really matter whether you're Christian, Buddha, or of some other faith, I believe we all struggle with keeping our eyes on what is divine and what is truly important: love, peace, joy, contentment, faith, and truth.

Yoga, as an exercise and discipline helps us slow down. It is the integration of strength building exercises aligned with breath. As the breath slows down, so does the mind. As the mind slows down, we can cast out negative thoughts and fears that overshadow our faith. As we begin to clear out our doubts and fears, we can re! new our minds and embrace all of God's promises to us. Can we do this without yoga? Absolutely! The real question is, "Do we have too?" Absolutely not! Many people, as well as Christians flock to yoga several times a week, not just for the physical benefits, but the mental benefits as well. Yoga provides another opportunity for quelling the mind and centering the soul. Yoga can be a moving meditation to God. For me and many other Christians, that is exactly what it is.

I'm not saying that all types of yoga should be practiced. There are some yoga classes that most Christians wouldn't be comfortable in and thank God that we have the Holy Spirit to help us discern this. But in the same light, there are some books we should avoid, some music we shouldn't listen to, and some foods we shouldn't eat. Does that mean we should ban the whole darn lot of them? No, just use good judgment.

The only thing better than yoga, is yoga that openly honors Jesus Christ! How delightful it would be to walk in a yoga studio with a huge cross and scripture on the wall? How awesome it would be to give glory and honor to God for every movement and thought as we progress through our yoga practice or to meditate on the scriptures while standing as a warrior for Christ? Anyone who condemns Christian yoga hasn't practiced it. I can think of no better combination than yoga exercises integrated with God's word and Christian principles. It is like the best of both worlds.

Yoga is just a tool. Meditation is just a tool. We, who love the Lord Jesus Christ and practice yoga or meditation, see them as exactly that. They are not our gods and we're not confused or deceived by them. We are striving to love God with all of our heart, soul, and strength and if yoga or meditation can help us do this, then I say, "more power to us."

I take comfort in knowing that God draws us into his kingdom. I have heard testimonies of how God has saved people who were drenched in the yoga religion and who now openly condemn yoga with a passion.! Yet cou ld it have been their sensitivity to the spirit after practicing years of yoga that opened them to hear Christ's voice? The Bibles says that "no man comes to God unless the spirit of God draws him." I know that many of my yoga colleagues are not Christians, but I also know that they are seeking and through their seeking they may find the true and living God, the God who is able to really save their souls. They may not ever enter a church, but they might just be curious enough to go to a Christian yoga class and see what it's all about. Let's stop putting God in this humanly crafted and limited box. He is so much bigger than what we can see, understand, and perceive.

Roman 14:2 says, "One man's faith allows him to eat everything, but another man whose faith is weak eats only vegetables." Should we therefore all become vegetarians? Perhaps those who oppose yoga believe that "they" themselves lack the strength to practice yoga without being seduced away from the Lord. Verse 13 declares, "Let each one be fully convinced in his own mind. He who regards the day [yoga] as special does so to the Lord. He who eats meat [or practices yoga], eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God. Therefore let us stop passing judgment. Blessed is the man who does not condemn himself by what he approves. But the man who doubts is condemned [if he practices yoga], because his eating [yoga practice] is not of faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin."

The Bible gives us liberty. It tells us that we must individually live out our own soul salvation. Therefore let's spend more time listening to what God tells us regarding our own personal lives, instead of dictating and condemning those who don't sin like we do. Even Jesus said, "Who made me a judge or ruler over you? For I have not come to condemn the world, but to save it."
