Earthly Royalty rule over the subjects in their kingdom or country. It is a status generally inherited, through birth. But when we look at some Royals, we see a total lack of character, ethics or just plain good manners. Instead we meet overbearing, haughty individuals.

Yet where does the tradition of wearing gold crowns come from? Where the tradition of the sumptuous robes of Royalty? Where the tradition of investing power over people, to a single individual?

There was once a simple monk called Lawrence. He was very humble and unassuming. Happy to do the most menial of tasks, he did all his work in the presence of God, asking that the Creator would bless him and his work. Eventually this simple monk became so lucid, wise and able that he was constantly asked for advice by the most scholarly in the land. Brother Lawrence is responsible for writing the 17 century classic Practicing the Presence.

We find this with many contemporary sages. Many had no formal education, came from poor backgrounds, some were even illiterate, yet they had such spiritual power and wisdom that they were consulted by the most influential in their respective lands.Take Anandamoyi Ma, Mother Amma, Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov for example. Their teachings and wisdom is rated by the most scholarly and they are also venerated by regular people.

So what was it, what mechanism in the human condition did they unleash to rise to such a level of wisdom? They are masters of their inner life. They have control over their emotions, thoughts and actions. They are not victims of their inherited tendencies. They worked so much on their consciousness that their weaknesses were transformed.

They became true alchemists. They transformed their 'base' tendencies into the gold of enlightenment.

The reason why the tradition of wearing a crown or tiara exists, is because they are a physical reflection of inner wisdom. Saints depicted on church walls also have this gold crown or nimbus above their heads. It is symbol! ic of th e golden energy field that clairvoyants see when they look at spiritual people. The crown and the nimbus are outer reflections of an inner state of consciousness. And the sumptuous robes are the glorious, colorful and luminous energy fields around these beings.

Spiritual beings, who have control over their negative, destructive impulses have so purified themselves that their inner kingdom, the trillions of cells in their bodies look after them and revere them.

These cells are like the subjects in their kingdom. Only, spiritual beings don't patronise or look down on their cells, they are grateful and proud of the work their cells carry out.

These spiritual masters can do all kinds of ''miracles'' because they have mastered the elements of fire(spirit) water (emotions) air (mind) earth (physical body) I once saw how the Bulgarian sage, Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov, protected his disciples by politely 'asking' the Angel of Air to change the direction of the wind to prevent a fierce, forest fire from moving towards his centre and wreaking havoc on the hundreds of his disciples. His intervention prevented a major catastrophe. Many times he and other spiritual masters, are able to change the destiny of their disciples, their country and even world conditions, simply by their interventions. Why? Because they have gained the respect of the Invisible world and its Beings, because these Beings recognise that these humans have developed their divine side. True Royalty is a state of consciousness. The reward of living a masterful life is the respect and recognition of the invisible world, the natural world, the world of men and the physiological world of our cells.

Tenth Law: It takes 21 days to six weeks to consciously create a new habit or program. The subconscious can accept a new habit program instantly.

Eleventh Law: When you fight a habit it will always win. Think about a pink elephant with green and black toenails. Then try to not think about a pink elephant with green and black toenails.

Twelfth Law: All habits can become addictions. The level of addictions is equal to the level of low self-esteem in your first twelve years.

Hikkaduwa Sri Lanka

The Makara thorana at the entrance of the temple is believed to be one of the best craftsmanship of the Kandyan period. What noteworthy is the god figures with arrows that have blood on tip of it. Dodanduwa which is inhabited by fisher folk is situated between Rathgama and Hikkaduwa. Rathgama oya is another attraction in the area that has number of islands. The area around Rathgama is popular for the cinnamon plantations in the south Sri Lanka.

Kumarakanda temple with large number of beautiful religious paintings and footprint of Buddha is also situated in Rathgama due to the popularity of Buddhism. It is believed that the first Buddhist school in Sri Lanka was started here with a training school for Buddhist monks.

One popular island of the Rathgama tank is the Polgasduwa, which can be reached by boat. Monk who was born in Wiesbaden in Germany had built a monastery here in 1878. He had contributed to the Buddhist literature by translating many Pali Buddhist publications, Visuddi Magga and Anguttara-Nkaya are among the translations. Last four years of his life was spent in a forest monastery in Kandy and the monk was died in 1957 in Colombo after an operation.

How to get there

Hikkaduwa can be reached by bus or taxi which lies on the A2 main road from Colombo to Galle. The distance form Colombo to Hikkaduwa is 98 kilometers. If one comes from Galle to Hikkaduwa the distance around 19 kilometers. The train is also can be used to travel to Hikkaduwa and the station is located few meters away from the city.

Want Better Sleep? Tame That Busy Mind!

Have you ever wondered why your mind always seem to be more active at night? Well actually it's not, but because you're trying to relax you are more aware of it.

During the day our minds are taken up with our day to day activities but as soon as we lie down at night, our minds seem to come alive. One thought follows another and another and soon you are worrying about everything, including the fact that it's 2.30 am and we're still not asleep!

How can we stop negative thoughts from intruding on our sleep?

Unfortunately it's easy to become negative in our thinking. The mind tends to go into problem solving mode at the end of the day. We focus on our problems and this can build stress which keeps us awake.

To stop this nightly torture, ask yourself the following questions:

Do you take responsibility for things that you shouldn't? Are you worrying about other people's problems? Remind yourself that you can't think for anyone else and just let those worries go.

Are you worrying about something specific? Write it down before going to bed. Tell yourself firmly that you will think about this issue tomorrow morning. The subconscious mind will hear you, but you MUST consciously stop these worrying thoughts as soon as they surface. This becomes easier with practice.

Busy minds are not necessarily a symptom of stress. If you are creative you may have more ideas than you can deal with. Write them down when they pop up or use a voice recorder by the bed.

Some other ways we can stop our spiralling thoughts and get some rest:

Be aware of this; you are not your mind. Your mind is your personality, you are the person who owns your mind and you have to tell it who's in charge! You don't have to follow the path your thoughts are taking.

The mind must be redirected and made to think on one stress free thing. Realize you can control your thoughts, be aware in what direction your thoughts are leading.

I'm not going to trot out the usual remedies for sleep! here, s imply because physical remedies don't work too well for over active minds. Trying too hard to relax when your mind's racing can do more harm than good. You need to distract your mind and focus it on one thing only.

This will stop one thought developing into another and another.

How to do this? Well to start with we can use an outside source to focus our mind. For instance, listen to a CD. A relaxing CD is not always helpful under these conditions, try an instructional tape where there is someone talking. This will stop your mind wandering and your thoughts will focus on the voice, the more boring the better!

Training your mind to do what you want is the key to better sleep and less stress in your life.

Bloodletting May Provide Health Benefits for Obese

Some obese people may improve their health by donating blood, a preliminary study from Germany suggests.

In the study, obese people with metabolic syndrome who had blood drawn experienced a reduction in blood pressure, along with other changes that linked with a reduced risk of heart disease, the researchers said.

Metabolic syndrome is a collection of symptoms associated with heart disease, including high blood sugar, high blood pressure and low levels of "good" cholesterol. The syndrome has been linked with increased risks of stroke, coronary artery disease and Type 2 diabetes. The main treatment is weight loss.

The findings suggest doctors might consider blood donation as a possible treatment for people with metabolic syndrome who have above-normal iron levels (a common situation), said study researcher Andreas Michalsen, of the Charité-University Medical Centre in Berlin.

However larger trials are needed to confirm the results and evaluate the long-term risks of such a treatment, Michalsen said.

Dr. Pieter Cohen, an assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and a general internist at Cambridge Health Alliance, said blood donation should not be recommended as a treatment for metabolic syndrome unless more studies are done.

"You want to know [that] it would make them live longer," or reduce the actual risk of heart attack and stroke, not just markers linked with those conditions, Cohen said.

Blood pressure drop

Previous studies have shown high iron levels are associated with metabolic syndrome and Type 2 diabetes, the researchers said. And one small study found that bloodletting reduced blood pressure in patients with treatment-resistant high blood pressure. However, the effects of blood withdrawal on people with metabolic syndrome have not been rigorously examined.

Michalsen and colleagues randomly assigned 64 obese people with metabolic syndrome to have their blood drawn, or to receive no specific treatment. At the beginning of the study, those in the bloodletting group had 10 ounces (300 milliliters) of blood removed, and four weeks later, had another 8.5 to 17 ounces (250 to 500 ml) removed.

After six weeks, patients in the bloodletting group saw their systolic blood pressure drop by an average of 18 mmHg, from 148.5 mmHg to 130.5 mmHg. Systolic blood pressure (the "top" blood pressure number) is considered to be high if it is above 140 mmHg, and moderately high if it is between 120 and 140 mmHg.

In the nontreatment group, blood pressure was reduced, on average, from 144.7 mmHg to 143.8 mmHg.

Previous studies have found that a reduction in systolic blood pressure by 10 mmHg can lead to a 22 percent reduction in the risk of heart attack, heart failure and coronary artery disease, and a 41 percent reduction in stroke risk, the researchers said.

The new study also found bloodletting resulted in a significant decrease in heart rate and blood glucose levels, the researchers said.

Blood donation as a therapy?

Reducing the volume of blood through bloodletting would be expected to result in a decrease in blood pressure, Cohen said, but it's not clear if this approach could stabilize blood pressure in these patients,  and the long-term effects need to be studied.

The study researchers did not report whether study participants were taking medications that reduce blood pressure, Cohen said. If patients' blood pressure was not being treated properly to begin with, then the bloodletting may have had a greater effect on this group than it would on others, Cohen said.

The researchers also did not take into account any changes in lifestyle and eating habits that occurred during the study, which may have affected blood pressure.

"There's good stuff in our blood too, that we need to fight infections," Cohen said. "We can't assume that if you take out some bad stuff in a pint of blood, that you're not also taking out some good stuff."

Because metabolic syndrome is not contagious, blood donated from those with the condition would not pose health risks to those receiving it, Michalsen said.

Blood withdrawal is already used a treatment for some conditions, such as hemochromatosis, a condition that occurs when too much iron builds up in the body.

Pass it on: Blood withdrawal may reduce blood pressure in obese people with metabolic syndrome, but it's unclear if this proposed treatment would reduce the risk of conditions such as heart attack and stroke.

Chagas Disease vs AIDS: 6 Differences and 5 Similarities

The condition known as Chagas disease has created a situation in the Americas that resembles the HIV/AIDS epidemic in its early years, one group of researchers argues.

"As with patients in the first two decades of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, most patients with Chagas disease do not have access to health care facilities," or essential medications, the researchers, who are working on a vaccine for Chagas disease, write in the May issue of the journal PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases.

Both diseases are also stigmatizing, the researchers say. And for U.S. immigrants with Chagas disease living illegally in the United Status, immigration status can be an obstacle to receiving treatment, just as sexual orientation was a barrier to care for HIV/AIDS in the beginning of the epidemic, the researchers say.

But there are also big differences between the illnesses. Here's how the disease compare:

6 differences

Chagas disease is caused by a parasite, specifically, a single-celled protozoan called Trypanosoma cruzi. HIV/AIDS is caused by a virus.

Chagas disease is typically transmitted to people from insects called triatomine bugs, or kissing bugs. These bugs carry the parasite, and transmit the disease when they bite. Because the parasite usually lives in another organism to being passed to a person, it is known as a vector-borne illness. HIV/AIDS is transmitted directly from person to person through sex, or sharing intravenous needles.

When Chagas disease develops into a chronic condition, it can affect the heart, intestine and esophagus. HIV/AIDS affects the body's immune system.

HIV/AIDS is almost always fatal without treatment. Most people with Chagas disease (about 70 percent), do not develop chronic symptoms, according to the National Institutes of Health.

Although it's uncommon, Chagas disease can be transmitted orally, when people consume food contaminated with fecal matter from triatomine bugs (this transmission has been documented in the Amazon). HIV/AIDS cannot be transmitted this way.

HIV/AIDS affects people all over the world, and the biggest burden is in Sub-Saharan Africa. Because triatomine bugs are currently found only in the Americas, disease transmission is limited to this region. The majority of people infected live in South America, Central America, or Mexico.

5 Similarities 

Both diseases have an acute phase, which occurs upon infection, and a chronic phase, which develops years later. Because both diseases may not have symptoms for many years, people can be infected and not know it.

Both Chagas disease and HIV/AIDS can be acquired from a blood transfusion.

Both diseases can be passed from mother to child during pregnancy.

Both disproportionably affect people living in poverty, according to the authors of the PLoS paper.

Both require prolonged treatment. For HIV/AIDS, the treatment is a lifetime, while for Chagas disease, the treatment, which includes drugs to kill the parasite, is given for one to three months and is most effective in the acute phases of the disease.

Pass it on: Chagas disease shares some characteristics with HIVS/AIDS, but the conditions also have important differences.
