I want you to know that within you lies an unlimited power which if activated can change your life and your circumstances. This power I call the Power of the Spirit, because it is spiritual power. You must understand that you draw into your life what you meditate upon.

You may think you do not meditate now, but you do; unconsciously and in the wrong directions. For example, statistics show, most people who start a weight loss and fitness program will be unsuccessful. And even if they do lose some weight and become somewhat physically active, only 5% of those who start a weight loss and fitness program will keep the weight off after one year. Why? This is because, in many cases, people are of two minds on the issue of weight loss and fitness. One part of our mind, the objective or conscious mind wants to lose weight, and understands the importance and health benefits of weight loss and regular exercise. However, the other part of our mind, our subconscious mind, remains unconvinced that we truly mean it, and refuses to provide the necessary energy we need to be successful in the long term. This is because we imagine in our minds, through a sort of meditation, that diet and exercise will be hard, and we will have to give up things we love, etc. As a result, our subconscious mind, because of the visions and feelings we send it through meditation, does not provide the energy and stamina we need to be successful losing weight. In fact, the meditations are sending energy in the opposite direction, to fight our weight loss and provide the means for us to indulge in the things we are meditating on, like fattening foods, etc.

It is the same with those who have addictions. The conscious mind of the addict understands that they must change or they may come ! to a ver y bad end because of the addiction. However, the meditations and visions of their mind center only on the drug, effectively turning them into the very thing they imagine and meditate on in their lives; an addict who loves their drug. The energy to quit is redirected entirely into getting high, because that is what the meditations and desires of the person are truly communicating to the subconscious mind.

As you can see, we all meditate at some level, and access the Power of the Spirit. Unfortunately, this power is often misdirected and misused. So the key then is to find time to deliberately focus our minds on the highest and best life has to offer; success, abundance, good health, happiness, love, etc. In this way, we will direct the energy of the Power of the Spirit towards proving us the means and motivation to make our dreams come true. The subconscious will sense this energy and will provide the motivation, energy, and means to lead you to success. And because the spirit is infinite, there is no limit to what you can accomplish if you remain faithful to your program of meditation.

Meditation reveals the truth of things and enables you to manifest the life you want.

It sounds to good to be true, but it is well known that all the great sages known through history used meditation to actualise their potential and reach the great heights that they did. What is also true is that we now live in an age where the secret power of meditation is no longer hidden from ordinary folks. And for anyone who seriously wants to step up his or her life, meditation is a way. Easy right? Well yes and no. It is true that meditation is a discipline, and dedication to it brings tremendous rewards. But, like any discipline, meditation takes time to master.

The mind is constantly busy with what I call mental noise. Without even realising it, it is running a constant stream of thoughts to our subconscious mind. The trouble with this is that, for most of us, the thoughts tend to be around stressors and negatives in our lives, and because the brain keeps running these thought without thinking about it, it literally becomes addicted to these thoughts, and in turn these thoughts create more stressors, which in turn feeds these negative thought patterns again. Its not that we want to think these things, they cause us pain, but our brains have become patterned to these thoughts and has no other 'programme' to run - unless we give it one. Now trying to change our programming is very hard to say the least. This is where meditation comes in. Meditation will literally wipe out those programmes. In time, your mind will become tranquil, and with that tranquillity your life, as you know it, will change. You will become attuned to the real you. You will be o! n your w ay to actualising your greatest potential.

Now I know this may seem like a grand statement, but I promise you, it is true. Since meditating regularly, my life has literally opened up. I possess a calm I never thought I would have. This benefit alone is enough, but this is just the beginning. It is as if the doors of possibility have swung open right in front of me and life is presenting to me on a whole new level. I am realising I can have exactly what I want now.

I also realise that the idea of sitting quietly for an hour a day might seem impossible to some. For me it took quiet a long time to actually dedicate myself to it as a discipline. But since doing so, I have come across a new meditation technique that makes the benefits of meditation so much easier to achieve and it has to do with certain sound frequencies. Without getting too technical, the benefits of meditation are a result of the brain being conditioned into certain brain wave states and what science has discovered is that the brain can be entrained to enter into these brainwave states by certain sound frequencies, otherwise known as binaural beats.

The scientific term for this is Brainwave Entrainment and it is basically meditation made easy with all the benefits of disciplined meditation. Brainwave Entrainment (binaural beats) put you into deeply relaxing meditative states (alpha, theta and delta) and it is in these brainwave states that the mind is reconditioned to the benefit of the listener as follows:

Who takes refuge?

Who takes refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha, i.e., the triple-gem?  Is it the self (âtman) or is it the Five Aggregates which make up our human psychophysical organism?  Surely one of the two takes refuge.  

The Five Aggregates, which are impermanent and suffering, don't seem a likely candidate to take refuge in the Buddha, to name the most important refuge, who is not the Five Aggregates according to the Lanakvatara Sutra.

"The Buddha is neither the personality-soul (pudgala), nor the personality aggregates (skandha); he is knowledge free from defilement(s).  Clearly perceiving (him) to be eternally serene, I take refuge (in him) (gacchami sarnam hi aham)."

It seems much more likely that the self takes refuge which is not part of the Five Aggregate package.  Oddly, there are some passages where the self is the refuge.

"Therefore, Ananda, stay as those who have the self as an island (attadîpâ), as those who have the self as refuge (attasaranâ), as those who have no other refuge; as those who have the dharma as an island, as those who have dhamma as refuge, as those who have no other refuge (D. ii. 100).

And from the Theragâthâ

"Like the surge of a great ocean, so also birth and old age will roll over you.  Do make a firm island for the self, since there is no other refuge to be found for you" (412).

All this implies that the Five Aggregates have no relationship whatsoever with the notion of refuge.  In addition, in the Meditation canon there is no mention of the aggregates taking refuge or being a refuge.  Yet the self, which is not part of the aggregates according to the Buddha, is said to be a refuge.

It's a strange Buddhism that claims the Buddha denied a self, then asks its followers to, essentially, say, "gacchâmi (I go) to the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha for refuge"!  What is it that, exactly, is going to these refuges?  It can't be the Five Aggregates.  The Buddha rejects the aggregates.  They belong to Mara the Evil One.  They are illusory.

Without thinking about the implications of taking refuge, especially, who goes to the three refuges, those who triumphantly proclaim the Buddha denied the self are, in fact, proposing we accept a Buddhism that is frankly absurd, which is really suggesting, nothing takes refuge!

In a nutshell, failure and success are simply products of your mind. Your mind has the power to propel you to success if only it finds enough fuel to keep you going. And it also has the tendency to slack off and lead the way towards failure if it gets the wrong directions.

And this fuel, the directions – they all come from you. So the question is, what kind of fuel are you feeding your mind with? Is it positive fuel or negative fuel? If you're running on negative fuel, no matter how hard you work, you are on your way towards failure. And the more you fail, the more the brain will expect to fail. And the more failure to expect, the more failure will certainly come.

But what if you are running on positive fuel? It will give you everything you need to reach success. This includes motivation, encouragement, willpower, and so on. And this positive fuel that you need is just the right state of mind, the right mental programming.

3. Fill up with positive fuel. So how can you fill your tank with positive fuel and go down the straight road towards success? ! Positive affirmations, positive thoughts and statements that you fill up your mind with, are exactly the type of fuel you need. These positive statements, once embedded into the mind, turn into actual belief systems. And when your mind starts believing in positive things, it already does what it can to generate these beliefs into reality.

The equation is simple: positive statements bring positive results, while negative statements bring negative results. So the decision as to whether you fail or succeed lies in your mind, and with positive affirmations, you can control your mind. This means, you don't have to live out a life that has already been predetermined for you. Failure or success – you are free to choose.

Pokhara is the second most important city of Nepal on the shores of beautiful Lake Feva-Tal. Pokhara is well prepared to welcome the tourists. New Weight Loss Drug Belviq Approved by FDA

The weight loss pill Belviq (generically known as lorcaserin) was approved today by the Food and Drug Administration.

The drug, manufactured by Arena Pharmaceuticals GmbH of Zofingen, Switzerland, is intended to be used along with a reduced-calorie diet and exercise for chronic weight management, the FDA said in a statement

Belviq is approved for use in adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or greater, and adults with a BMI of 27 or greater and who have at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol, the FDA said.

"Obesity threatens the overall well being of patients and is a major public health concern," Dr. Janet Woodcock, director of the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, said in a statement. "The approval of this drug, used responsibly in combination with a healthy diet and lifestyle, provides a treatment option for Americans," Woodcock said.

Belviq works by activating a serotonin receptor in the brain. Activation of this receptor may help a person eat less and feel full after eating smaller amounts of food.

The drug was evaluated in three clinical trials that included nearly 8,000 obese and overweight patients, with and without Type 2 diabetes, who were treated for 52 to 104 weeks.

Compared with placebo, treatment with Belviq for up to one year was associated with average weight loss ranging from 3 percent to 3.7 percent, the FDA said.

About 47 percent of patients without Type 2 diabetes lost at least 5 percent of their body weight, compared with about 23 percent of patients treated with placebo. Among people with Type 2 diabetes, about 38 percent who were treated with Belviq, and 16 percent treated with placebo lost at least 5 percent of their body weight.

The approved labeling for Belviq recommends that the drug be discontinued in patients who fail to lose 5 percent of their body weight after 12 weeks of treatment, because the health of these patients is not likely to be improved by the treatment.

Belviq may cause serious side effects, including serotonin syndrome, a potentially life threatening drug reaction that causes the body to have too much serotonin, a chemical produced by nerve cells, according to the National Institutes of Health. The risk of this reaction is higher in people taking other drugs that increase serotonin levels, including drugs to treat depression and migraine. Belviq may also cause disturbances in attention or memory, the FDA says.

There has been concern that some weight loss drugs increase the risk of heart problems. In 1997, the weight-loss drugs fenfluramine and dexfenfluramine were withdrawn from the market after evidence emerged that they caused damage to heart valves.

In the studies evaluated by the FDA, patients who took Belviq were no more likely to have valve abnormalities compared with those that took a placebo.

The most common side effects of Belviq in non-diabetic patients were headache, dizziness, fatigue, nausea, dry mouth, and constipation, and in diabetic patients are low blood sugar, headache, back pain, cough and fatigue, the FDA said.

Violent Sleep Disorder Gives Clues to Parkinson's

A rare sleep disorder that causes people to punch and kick others during sleep may have some of the same risk factors as Parkinson's disease, and could give researchers clues to predicting Parkinson's many years before it surfaces, a new study suggests.

The results revealed a number of factors linked with an increased risk of REM sleep behavior disorder (or RBD), including smoking, working on a farm, past head injuries and pesticide exposure.

A better understanding of how these factors might be at work in both REM sleep Behavior Disorder and Parkinson's could lead to a way of diagnosing Parkinson's and detecting it very early, said study author Dr. Ronald Postuma, a neurologist at McGill University in Montreal.

Patients with RBD typically make sounds or move during REM sleep. The condition has been linked with some forms of dementia and Parkinson's disease, with one study of 93 RBD patients showing that more than half developed a neurodegenerative disease over a 12-year period.

"People who have sleep problems who are otherwise healthy are at increased risk for developing Parkinson's and dementia," Postuma said. The findings are published online today (June 27) in the journal Neurology.

Violent sleep

Researchers surveyed 347 people in 10 countries with RBD about their lifestyles and other medical conditions, and compared the results to those of healthy people.

In order to tease out exactly what risk factors might connect Parkinson's to RBD, the researchers matched up the risk factors for RBD they found with factors known to affect people's risk of developing Parkinson's.

But while the study may shed some light on what might lead to RBD, it also further clouds the mystery of what causes Parkinson's, the researchers said.

For example, previous research has shown what appears to be smoking's protective effect when it comes to Parkinson's — tobacco users have a lower risk of developing the disease. However, tobacco users in this study were 43 percent more likely to develop RBD than nonusers.

Similarly, caffeine use has been linked with a lower risk of Parkinson's, but in the new study, it did not appear to have an effect on developing RBD.

Most people don't need to be particularly concerned with developing RBD, said Dr. Karin Wirdefeldt, a medical epidemiologist with the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, who was not involved in the new study. "However, a general recommendation is to avoid exposures such as smoking and pesticides due to their potential harmful effects related to conditions other than RBD or [Parkinson's]."

The link between neurological diseases and sleep

One concern Wirdefeldt said about the research was that patients had to rely on their memories for the surveys, and this may mean that the actual increased risk of RBD linked with certain behaviors are likely to be lower.

"As the first study on the topic, it is considered exploratory," she said.

Wirdefeldt added that "10 years after RBD diagnosis, most patients have still not developed a neurodegenerative disease."

But Postuma said that it's for that reason that Parkinson's researchers should take a deeper look at sleep disorders.

"Sleep disorders can be the first sign of Parkinson's,10, 20 years before you get it," Postuma said.

Early diagnosis, he said, would ultimately help the patients who might develop these disorders.

When you are under hypnosis your focus is heightened, you have more concentration and you are more in touch with your emotions and your resolves. In this state, a person becomes calm and relaxed which allows them to concentrate on their emotions, thoughts or sensations and they will have the capability to block out distractions. The subconscious mind of the person becomes more active than their conscious mind. So when you think about it, hypnosis deals with the person's subconscious.

Since hypnosis deals with the person's subconscious, the person becomes more open to suggestion, so they lose their inhibitions to do things. A clear example would be when the subject is being hypnotized and being told that they are in the water, they will "feel" the cool water in their face, in their hands or in their feet as instructed. They will have the sensation of walking or splashing in the water, as suggested. They will "hear" the soothing sound of the cascading water. They get to "experience" these suggestions, and they are not inclined to question the suggestions. They just feel them and go ahead with the feeling, which is why there is a completely relaxed feeling when one is hypnotized.

It is important to note however that no matter how strong the suggestibility of an idea is, or how strong the suggestive power of the hypnotist is, the subconscious mind of the person strongly holds on to the basic values of morality. The person never betrays themselves and there is always a sense of safety. It means that a person's subconscious is still in the control and will refuse to do things like jump from the top of the building. Even though the person is in a trancelike situation when hypnotized, they still have control of their mind and body. They will not do things, even when strongly suggested, when these things are against their morals.

The power of hypnosis mind control comes in when the hypnotist uses suggestions and other therapeutic interventions to coach the subject into doing something to ! achieve their goals, or altering their way of thinking and feeling. The openness of the person to accept these suggestions while under a hypnotic state goes deeper into their subconscious mind. This is a very powerful tool for the hypnotist because when they know their subject very well, they will be able to access more information from the person and they will be able to drive the person into a more positive state. This will work very well for the person who is being hypnotized as it combines both relaxation and concentration and upon awakening they will feel refreshed.

It means that the person, while being subjected to hypnosis, can concentrate on their problems, anxieties, and the things which need improvement without losing control over their emotions. They still retain the feeling of being relaxed. The subject gets to absorb the important aspects and purpose of hypnosis, which will bring more positivity and happiness to their life.

2 Cups of Coffee May Shield Heart (But More Won't)

Drinking coffee moderately may reduce the risk of heart failure, but drinking too much makes this benefit disappear, according to a new review.

People who drank two cups of coffee a day were 11 percent less likely to have heart failure, compared with people who drank no coffee. Heart failure occurs when the heart cannot pump enough blood to meet the demands of the body, and can be caused by factors ranging from high blood pressure to pregnancy.

Constantly drinking too much coffee, however, negates this benefit: no difference in heart failure risk was seen between non-coffee drinkers' and those who drank more than three cups a day.

"As with so many things, moderation appears to be the key here," said study author Dr. Murray Mittleman, director of the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Research Unit at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

The study showed an association, not a cause-and-effect link.

Still, there is reason to think coffee lowers heart failure risk, the researchers said. Moderate coffee consumption may increase drinkers' caffeine tolerance, which could in turn limit their susceptibility to high blood pressure. Additionally, coffee drinking has been shown to lower the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Diabetes and hypertension are major risk factors for heart failure, Mittleman said.

People who have already have heart failure should consume no more than one to two cups of coffee per day, according to the American Heart Association.

The finding "is good news for coffee drinkers, of course, but it also may warrant changes to the current heart failure prevention guidelines, which suggest that coffee drinking may be risky for heart patients," said study author Elizabeth Mostofsky, a research fellow at the center. 

The researchers looked at data collected on 140,220 people in Sweden and Finland who participated in five previous studies. There were a total of 6,522 cases of heart failure between 2001 and 2011. The causes of heart failure often cannot be reversed, but the condition can be treated. 

The researchers took into account the differing serving sizes between Europe and the United States (European servings are generally smaller), however, they did not account for coffee's strength or whether the coffee was caffeinated, though they noted that in northern Europe, it typically is.

The study was published yesterday (June 26) in the journal Circulation Heart Failure.
