Breast Reduction: Medical and Cosmetic Reasons

For those who aren't blessed with an ample bosom, the very idea of breast reduction surgery sounds crazy. You've probably had a friend respond to your complaints with, "I'll take them, if you don't want them".

But, you know that if you really did trade with her, she'd realize that being big-chested isn't as fabulous as she thought it would be. There are a lot of motivating factors in reducing bust size - some are purely cosmetic, but there are also very real health reasons.

- Medical Reasons for Breast ReductionBack problems are a common complaint from women with large breasts, particularly if the body frame is not in proportion to the chest size. Imagine trying to hold your body upright all day long with twenty pounds hanging off the front and throwing you off balance.

It is very stressful to the entire lower and middle back. Neck problems are also associated with a large chest. Again, you have this weight pulling down on your upper back, shoulders and neck. This can lead to strained muscles and chronic headaches.

Another health issue is the inability to perform activities. A large chest makes it more difficult to do certaing types of exercise, particularly cardio. So, you may be more inclined to lead a sedentary life which isn't good for your cardiovascular health or for weight management. Imagine trying to jog with DDs in front of you. Not even an industrial strength jog bra could completely hold them still!

Finally, there are also psychological health reasons. Large breasts are hard to miss and if you have them, you are probably familiar with the stares, the leers and the assumptions people make about your character. They can wreak havoc on your self-esteem and keep you at home instead of socializing and enjoying life.

- Cosmetic Reasons for Breast ReductionA common cosmetic reason for the procedure is asymmetry. It is common for one breast to be a little larger than the other, but sometimes is very noticeable. This procedure is used if there is a significan! t difference in the sizes. It is also used to achieve the same shape.

The sheer size is another cosmetic reason. You may not be comfortable with how you look in your clothes or you can't wear the clothes you want. You avoid the latest styles and tank tops because they just amplify the size of your chest. Overall, you feel uncomfortable in your clothes and tend to wear baggier tops to try and camouflage them.

Finally, gravity is not your friend. Very large breasts fall prey to sagging much sooner than smaller ones. The fat and tissue weigh them down and stretch out the skin. This can also leave stretch marks on your chest. If this has already happened, you will likely need a reduction as well as a lift to correct the effects of gravity.

Whatever reason is motivating you to seek breast reduction surgery, make sure you research your plastic surgeon. Verify that he is a board certified and licensed plastic surgeon and find out what kind of experience he has with this particular procedure. Go in to your consultation with a clear idea of what you want and you can decide together how to achieve it. You don't have to let large breasts hinder your life.

All-Natural 21 Pounds in 21 Days Weight Reduction Program

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 12:00 PM PDT

Article by John Grant

It's possible to lose 21 pounds in 21 days. That's right, a pound a day. But we have to abide by a strict detox program to lose 21 pounds in 21 days.

Rest, reduce, and rebuild--this is what the detoxification program "Lose 21 Pounds in 21 Days." If we follow it religiously we'll be on our way to a healthier lifestyle, and hopefully, longer life and a healthier body.

With today's fad in fastfoods, instant meals, and processed foods, we are likely to load up our body systems with chemicals and toxic substances harmful to the body. And it becomes a store house of toxins, becoming a potential time bomb waiting for the right time. The program "Lose 21 Pounds in 21 Days" aims to remedy this and help you regain control over your body's fat reserves.

It is really pretty simple. First, we let our mouths "rest" from munching and grinding solid food. This means we start having liquid meals like home-cooked soups (preferably vegetables), natural fruit juices, and lots of clean, pure water. The idea is that the more liquids we ingest the easier our body systems are cleansed. To lose 21 pounds in 21 days we need to have our internal organs cleansed and detoxed first.

Detox, detox, detox--this should be our diet theme if we want to lose the planned 21 pounds in 21 only days successfully. Liquids cleanse our intestines, stomach walls, bladder, kidneys, lungs, livers, and even veins. Just make sure the liquids we take are pure, natural, and free of any chemical or toxin. Pure coconut water straight from the coconut shell is a very good example in countries where this is readily available.

Then we "reduce" body weight as we take such liquids. This weight reduction is natural and does not put undue stress on our body systems. A tip here is to drink a glass or two of water or juice every two hours or so. To help us retain energy and get enough vitamins and antioxidants while we lose 21 pounds in 21 days, we may take powdered berry and other food supplements rich in natural nutrients ! but also have antioxidant properties.

Once our bodies are rid of toxins the metabolism function soars to peak performance and this sheds off extra pounds. To actually lose 21 pounds in 21 days like this is absolutely natural, healthy, and safe. And the best thing is that the body regains its quality to heal itself. Health, they say, actually has "heal" as its root word.

This program makes rebuilding sure and lasting. After we lose 21 pounds in 21 days and having our metabolism rate improves, the body can better absorb food derivatives. If we feed them toxins again, they will absorb them easily. If natural foods, then we promote our better health.

To lose a whopping 21 pounds in just 21 days, we need to abide by this disciplined detox slimming program. Good luck with your new diet and enjoy your healthier and slimmer body in 3 only short weeks time.

How To Obtain Healthy Weight Reduction

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 12:28 PM PDT

Article by David Richards

Today, almost everyone is conscious about how they look; also called as beauty conscious. Beauty, in early ages, was considered to be in the brain but in the world today, beauty usually means how a person looks physically. There are many factors that add to the beauty of a person like height, complexion, figure, features etc. Today, there are various blogs and other social medias that discuss the hottest topic of this era; beauty issues. And the most discussed topic amongst them is How to Reduce Weight. There are various methods for healthy weight loss. But people sometime fail to realize that not all methods are the right methods for a healthy weight loss. This article will discuss some of the healthy weight loss methods that can be used for long-term positive effects that will make you feel great; look great.

Some Basics of Healthy Weight Loss

Some people suddenly stop eating altogether in order to reduce weight; while others start drinking excessive liquids only to reduce weight; this should not be practiced in order to reduce weight. There are other useful methods that can result in a healthy weight loss. These impractical methods can harm you and result in bad health. That is why it is always said that there are two types of weight loss methods; healthy and unhealthy methods. You can reduce your weight by either method but you won't be able to do justice with your health if you choose any unhealthy method like stop eating altogether. By doing so, you will loose some weight; not fat, instead you will loose your body muscle mass which is dangerous for your health.

You are not required to terminate your diet altogether in order to reduce weight, rather you should always look for other healthy weight loss plans that can result in reducing body fat and provide you with long-term desirable results. Rather than ending your diet, you should change your diet by the inclusion of healthy foods like fruits, milk and other diets that contain calcium and fibre. Try to avoid diets that co! ntain cholesterol, saturated fat, excessive proteins and carbohydrates.

Most of the people look for shortcuts for reducing weight whilst not compromising with their health too. Practically, there are no such shortcuts of reducing weight in a healthy way. Although there are many fast weight reducing plans (including diets and exercises) that can be used as a secondary weapon against your obesity, however, these fast weight reducing methods should always be used along with long-term healthy weight reducing methods that involve changing your lifestyle in terms of your diet and exercise. Also some people rush into exercises and diet control from day 1 of their long-term healthy weight loss plan, this should also be avoided because your body doesn't prefer sudden changes, it rather likes gradual and steady changes.

You should realize that small positive changes can make huge differences between your past, present and future. If you are thinking to change your lifestyle permanently in terms of your diet, exercise etc then you are moving on the right track. Success demands consistency; if you work on your plan on only a couple of weeks or months and then you return back to your previous dietary habits then you have done nothing. Loosing weight might look as a short-term goal but you should always think about its long-term sustainability and for that you have to adhere to your dietary plan forever.

The best way to incorporate exercise into your healthy weight loss lifestyle is to determine the activities you enjoy and do them! For instance, maybe you like walking in the park, perhaps with your spouse or even with your dog. Do you enjoy running? It's very popular these days among health conscious people and works off a lot of stress. Yoga and Pilates are other options. They don't work the heart as much as aerobic exercises, but they are great at relaxing and toning you.

The Best Exercises For Cellulite Reduction

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 10:00 AM PDT

Article by Jenifer

In dealing with the ongoing battle of cellulite, it has been found that a lifestyle change needs to occur in order prevent, and or treat this genetic struggle. The ingredients of that lifestyle change includes, diet, treatment options, exercise, and your mind. The best exercises for cellulite reduction include squats, lunges, and isometric exercises.

Squats can be performed by standing with your legs a bit wider than your shoulders. Keeping your gaze forward, you then lift your shoulders up, back, and around sticking your chest out. Gently contract your abdomen to straighten out the spine and then bend your knees slowly as if you were going to sit in a chair. As you lower your body, do this in a slow count of four, making sure that your knees do not go past your toes. Slowly begin to straighten back into a standing position and then start again.

Lunges are performed by beginning in a standing position. Take a step back so that your feet are staggered. Take your front foot and lift your back heel so that the weight is pressed into the ball of the back foot. On the slow count of four, gently allow both knees to bend making sure that your knee doesn't go past your toes. Again, on the slow count of four begin to raise your body in a standing position, contracting the muscles in your backside, and hamstrings.

Isometric exercises are exercises that contract the muscle, but don't go through any range of motion. These exercises can be performed in a standing position. These exercises are good because you can target areas that have cellulite, and are problem-some. These exercises are namely good for your backside hips and thighs. Begin by standing with your feet slightly wider than your shoulders. Contract the muscles on your backside, hips, and thighs, making sure that your pelvis is shifted slightly forward with your abdomen contracted towards your lower back. Hold this position for thirty seconds while breathing through your nose. Next, shift your pelvis back, sticking your backside ! out whil e contracting all your muscles, again, holding for thirty seconds and breathing through your nose. Lastly, bend your body as if you were going to sit in a chair and contract the muscles again for thirty seconds while breathing through your nose.

Another great isometric exercise you can use for cellulite reduction is to lay flat on your back, arms at your sides, placing your legs in a chair. Lift your whole body up from below your shoulders. Try to have your lower body take the weight without too much stress on your arms. Slowly lift one leg for a count of ten seconds, and then lower your leg for a count of ten seconds. Switch legs and do the same making sure that your abdomen is contracted while you do this.

As with any exercise used for cellulite reduction, make sure that you talk to your physician before beginning any form of exercise to ensure that you are careful to not injure other parts of the body, and that you get the most out of the exercise regime you decide to try.

From drama to Dharma

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 10:00 AM PDT

I come from a long line of drama queens. My family could create drama out of going to the supermarket. They also drank a lot which enhanced this tendency.

Let's face it, many of us who have staggered about in the realm of addictive or blow-your-mind substances, have a predisposition towards catastrophizing. Something in us enjoys creating volcanic eruptions out of molehills. Even many of us who have heroically extricated ourselves from substance misuse or abuse have failed to let go the accompanying tendency to see the world in terms of flash crashes, trench warfare, bubonic plague, and other extreme events.

Even though we may be consciously inclined towards the Middle Path and serenity, our unconscious minds hurtle us relentlessly into series upon series of melodramas.

Melodrama, a theatrical term, derives from the Greek word melo, which means music. In theatre, emotions are exaggerated and the storyline is full of exciting events. Many of us would secretly delight in a sound-track to accompany our life performances.

Drama addicts tend to exaggerate, embroider and amplify events in order to draw attention to themselves and/or their world. Sometimes there is a desire to shock, whether by acting out or in telling the story of someone else's drama.

In the grip of a melodrama the breath becomes shallow, adrenalin kicks in, and the drama addict feels energized and alive. So it can be a challenge for many addicts to stick with meditation. The lurking core belief is that without drama, life would be boring; without telling stories of dramatic events, you would be boring.

Rollercoaster emotions may initially feel energizing but eventually they deplete us. Too much adrenaline and cortisol flooding the system eventually creates a worn out, flat and bored organism.

If we are able to actually identify that we are addicted to drama, meditating regularly may be able to help us move away from our own TV soap opera.

A good strategy in addressing addiction to drama is to reduce our expectations. Conscious and sub-conscious expectations can and do create a world of hurt. When I wait for the bus, I expect it to appear. When it does not appear, a melodramatic reaction arises. Behaving in an overdramatic manner each time an expectation is thwarted adds nothing constructive. Eliminating the expectation and relaxing into what actually is can liberate us from the tyranny of self.

When we behave as fixed entities complete with desires that must be satiated right here, right now, we see the world in terms of what we can extract from it physically, mentally and emotionally. When we crave less and demand less, we find we can love more and accept more. We move from the realm of frustrated hungry ghosts to the realm of equanimity. Appreciating what we have instead of clamouring for what we want, we can abide in plenty, well-being, kindness and beauty.

When we have fewer expectations, melodramas are less frequent. We find we are more able to allow things to be the way they are without needing to adjust or control outcomes.

Meditation sharpens our sense of interconnectedness and process. It helps us move from chipped mug half-empty to exquisite goblet half-full – a necessary step if we are to survive as a species.

The philosopher Bertrand Russell wrote:

"In fact the whole antithesis between self and the rest of the world, which is implied in the doctrine of self-denial, disappears as soon as we have any genuine interest in persons or things outside ourselves. Through such interests a man comes to feel himself part of the stream of life, not a hard separate entity like a billiard-ball, which can have no relation with other such entities except that of collocation. All unhappiness depends upon some kind of disintegration or lack or integration; there is disintegration within the self through lack of co-ordination between the conscious and the unconscious mind; there is lack of integration between the self and society where the two are not knit together by the force of objective interests and affections. The happy man is the man who does not suffer from either of these failures of unity, whose personality is neither divided against itself nor pitted against the world. Such a man feels himself a citizen of the universe, enjoying freely the spectacle that it offers and the joys that it affords, untroubled by the thought of death because he feels himself not really separate from those who will come after him. It is in such profound instinctive union with the stream of life that the greatest joy is to be found."

Meditation helps to bring the drama addict into the generally drama-free reality of the present moment. Reality reflects back to us that despite our out-of-control emotions and thoughts we are, in that very moment, clothed, fed, and sheltered and not at risk of war, famine or any other impending apocalypse.

When we sit with our present experience, whatever that may be, without judgment or commentary, and become aware on the level of sensation just what is going on emotionally, we may find that, maybe for the first time ever, we are actually capable of resting in great, natural peace. If we are able to stop our incessant, blind attraction to danger and chaos, even for a moment, we may experience, from the depths of our being, pure, unadulterated relief.

We may lurch back into old autopilot habits of over-dramatizing, but we have briefly experienced another way, which is not boring or grey after all, but deeply restful and nourishing. All we need to do is make a new habit, one of commitment, to going back to that place on a daily basis.

We may not feel like doing this. We may be tired, angry, distracted, hungry, lonely or stressed. But we don't have to believe every emotion or thought that we have. As with NA/AA meetings, we just show up. As we sit, day in and day out, steadfast as the rising and the setting sun, we gradually develop discriminating wisdom which helps us to decide which emotions and thoughts are in our own best interest and which are not. Mastery of the mind entails rejecting those thoughts not in alignment with our values. We can also identify emotions and thoughts that help in strengthening our purpose.

Serenity is the opposite of melodrama, and the dualistic nature of our universe whispers to us that the kernel of the one lies dormant in the other. All we need to do is incubate serenity by carefully laying it under our meditation cushion before we sit and trusingt that our minds will gradually incline towards peace.

Traumatic Stress - Part II: The Container

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 09:00 AM PDT

Article by Sarah Jenkins, MC

To keep the memories of abusive experiences aside, some lock their emotions, thoughts, and experiences away. Some describe their disturbing memories as if they are in a file folder, hard drive, cabinet, on a shelf, or out of the body. For others, the "containers" are described as being hidden from view, out of sight, maybe out of mind. Despite being sealed shut by these distractions, each container wants to be unopened, despite the person's fear of opening them. Trauma therapy means opening the containers, carefully, and with appropriate and clinically sound support. Releasing trauma's hold on the body can be a gift, albeit one to open with awareness.

Your Body Has Memory

As you remember from part one of this article, the nervous system remembers trauma. The posttraumatic stress symptoms that it gives you are its way of telling you, "Hey, deal with this!"

Therefore, if you start trauma therapy, it is important to understand that your body has memory, and will react. Because your body "holds" the memories, thoughts, emotions, and images of what happened, it is very possible that you will experience them in and or outside of your sessions.

The Nature of Trauma Work

Because it is easy to become flooded with emotion, it is not a process to take lightly or haphazardly, nor without sound clinical support. Just as with any therapy, there are inherent risks in starting your trauma work. You can experience distressful thoughts, share uncomfortable parts of your history, or experience difficult or overwhelming emotions. On the other hand, many take the risk and "open up" those trauma containers with an experienced therapist. As a result, they experience something different, a greater sense of peace, and symptom reduction.

Education

Therapists who "do trauma work" must understand what trauma "looks like" and how to identify it. More than just being able to diagnose traumatic stress symptoms, he or she should educate you about why the symptoms occur. Learning abou! t "fight, flight, or freeze," your body's automatic survival response, is key to the healing process. Education about trauma, its effects, symptoms, and biology can normalize your experiences. It will also help you, and your therapist, create a map to guide your treatment.

Grounding Skills

As I have shared in previous articles, dissociation is a coping mechanism that makes trauma survivors feel "disconnected," "not whole," "out of the body," or "as if it didn't happen." This internal switch turns on when the body and mind are overwhelmed by the trauma. Dissociation serves to protect you from harm, but can, over time, lead to significant distress.

If you are going to work on your traumatic symptoms, ask about "grounding skills." Grounding skills can help those who dissociate to feel more connected, better able to come back to the present moment, and feel calmer. You can create a 'toolbox" of grounding skills that you can access whenever you need them. Whether in, or out of the therapist's office, you can use these specific tools to help you feel safe. If you experience overwhelming thoughts, emotions, memories, or sensations, make sure that you share them with your therapist.

Physical and Emotional Safety

With trauma work, you may become "flooded" with emotions, physical sensations, or images that you had not thought of in a long time. Because of this, it is imperative that you have a lot of preparation work, prior to processing what happened to you. It is also imperative that you and your therapist regularly monitor your sense of emotional and physical safety. The ability to self soothe in healthy ways, handle significant levels of distress, and reach out for help, are very important when doing trauma work. For example, if you use substances to handle distress, you must learn alternative techniques first. Therefore, it is also necessary that you have an open communication with your therapist, as well as a sound support system that you can access.

EMDR: A Type of Tr! auma Ther! apy

There are many approaches to trauma work, and EMDR is one of them. It is a research based therapy approach and requires special training. EMDR was created by Francine Shapiro, and utilizes a combination of therapeutic approaches with bilateral stimulation i.e. the use of alternating, right-left tracking that can take the form of eye movements, sounds, or tactile stimulation.

EMDR helps process the troubling thoughts, feelings, sensations, and images of what happened to you. It activates your nervous system, and your internal healing mechanisms, to release what got "locked in" during the trauma. Your nervous system reprocesses what happened; it "buys" that you are safer now. It can stop giving you the fight, flight, or freeze response around what happened, thus reducing your symptoms of traumatic stress. EMDR also helps you to come to a healthier conclusion about what happened. Although no therapy can change the past, EMDR does have the potential to change your reaction so that you don't get "hijacked" by your emotions, thoughts, and sensations about what happened.

My hope is that this article has given you some initial things to consider, should you decide that you want to open up those containers, and process your trauma history. Making the decision to work on memories of abuse is no small step, but can be an important part of your healing journey. I honor that first step, and wish you the very best.

Lowering Blood Pressure Naturally - Diet, Stress and Physical Activity Can Lower Your Blood Pressure

Music in Medicine | Dr. Claudius Conrad MD, PhD | Music Therapy Research

BACKGROUND: Music has been used for therapeutic purposes since the beginning of cultural history. However, despite numerous descriptions of bene๏ฌcial effects, the precise mechanisms by which music may improve human well-being remain unclear. METHODS: We conducted a randomized study in ten critically ill patients to identify mechanisms of music-induced relaxation using a special selection of slow movements of Mozart's piano sonatas. These sonatas were analyzed for compositional elements of relaxation. We measured circulatory variables, brain electrical activity, serum levels of stress hormones and cytokines, requirements for sedative drugs, and level of sedation before and at the end of a 1-hr therapeutic session. RESULTS: Compared with controls, we found that music application signi๏ฌcantly reduced the amount of sedative drugs needed to achieve a comparable degree of sedation. Simultaneously, among those receiving the music intervention, plasma concentrations of growth hormone increased, whereas those of interleukin-6 and epinephrine decreased. The reduction in systemic stress hormone levels was associated with a signi๏ฌcantly lower blood pressure and heart rate. CONCLUSION: Based on the effects of slow movements of Mozart's piano sonatas, we propose a neuro-humoral pathway by which music might exert its sedative action. This model includes an interaction of the hypothalamic--pituitary axis with the adrenal medulla via mediators of the unspeci๏ฌc immune system ...

Fighting loneliness and disease with meditation

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 07:00 AM PDT

Amanda Enayati, CNN: Anyone who sees meditation as a hippy-dippy endeavor has found his or her view increasingly challenged by science in recent years.

Meditation and other contemplative practices are continuing to claim their place at the table of mainstream medicine.

This is true for a slew of reasons: chief among them, the recognition that hordes of us are stressed out, that stress wreaks havoc upon our bodies and that the practice of meditation has significant and measurable stress-reduction properties.

In a recent study led by J. David Creswell, assistant professor of psychology at Carnegie Mellon's Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences …

Elder Care Stress

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 06:00 AM PDT

Article by Alex Jensen

As we grow up, we imagine leaving our parents' house and getting out on our own. We plan on eventually starting our own family, doing some traveling and so on. What most of us do not imagine is dealing with the care of our parents as they grow older.

The figures are confirmed by study after study. As a society, we are growing older. While this is certainly good news, it also opens up a host of practical issues that most of us with aging parents have never even remotely considered.

Let's assume your parents are in their mid sixties. You've noticed they are not as sharp as they used to be, but don't really think much of it. Then the diagnosis comes in. Your mother has been diagnosed with vascular dementia.

Vascular dementia is the loss of brain function caused by a reduction of blood movement through the body due to clogged arteries. Given the American diet, it is a very common problem in the elderly. It is also a slow developing problem that can take ten years or more to play out. There is no cure.

As you put down the phone, you are faced with an entirely new aspect of life. There is no way your dad is going to be able to handle the care of your mom. You are going to have to be involved. Now what?

Welcome to the scenario millions are facing these days. As we live longer, families are confronting the unique situation where parents physically live much longer, but their health deteriorates. This leaves their kids with a highly stressful situation - learn about the issues involved in elder care and, just as importantly, the staggering cost.

If you have a parent diagnosed with dementia, the first step is to educate yourself thoroughly on the disease and the progression it will take. It is just as important to read up on the issues that arise for family members dealing with such a situation. The thing you will quickly learn is dealing with dementia is often much tougher on family members than the person inflicted with the disease.

From a practical standpoint! , there is the simple cost in time and money. Practicalities may seem a side issue, but they will quickly become a major one. Even with health insurance, who has the time or money to feed another mouth and take care of a person that needs help with everything? That may sound cold, but it is something you are going to have to deal with at some point.

From an emotional aspect, are you ready to deal with this? What is this? The loss of memory and brain function will be shocking. How are you going to react when your mom no longer recognizes you or remembers you name? No matter how well you prepare yourself, it will be a brutally painful moment.

As you can surmise from this, elder care stress is going to be a huge issue for many people with boomer parents. The key to overcoming it is to educate yourself on what will happen. Also, join support groups. Discussing the situation with others going through it can make a huge difference.

What the Spiritual Consciousness path is really about

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 06:00 AM PDT

Trying to point out the Spiritual Consciousness path (S., mรขrga) is somewhat like trying to point out the direction of time.  It can't be done.  The Spiritual Consciousness path doesn't run in a particular direction.  In Sanskrit, the root word for path, Mร‚RGA, means seek, look for; search through; strive after; endeavor, and so on.  For example, the word mรขrgana can be defined as seeking.  Translating mรขrga with path is problematic since mรขrga is not a track.

The Spiritual Consciousness path is really about a particular kind of seeking that helps us to awaken to our Bodhi Mind of which, presently, we have no knowledge (avidya).  This should remind us of Zen's famous ten oxherding pictures (J., jรปgyรป) in which the Buddha Mind is represented by the ox which which a herdboy is searching for.  For those familiar with these pictures they give us a good understanding of what a path or mรขrga really means in a Spiritual Consciousness sense.

If we are not seeking for our lost ox (Bodhi Mind) like the herdboy in the first picture, we are not following the Buddha's path—we are outside of it.  Although this Mind is fundamentally present for us, we are the ones who are actually lost, not it.  Since beginningless time, we have only learned to turn away from this pure Mind so as to become completely lost.  Our thoughts which hide this Mind testify to just how lost we really are.  The first oxherding picture describes these thoughts as "endless wildgrass," "rivers broaden, the mountains stretch on and the trails go ever deeper," "evening cicadas shrill in the maples." (Yamada Mumon, Lectures On The Ten Oxherding Pictures, 18).

The Spiritual Consciousness path is intended to take us on an inward seeking journey in which we must see our Bodhi Mind which is immaculate, real and absolute.  It is by first seeking Bodhi Mind like the herdboy that the path begins to appear for us.

Is Your Job at Risk? Tips that Can Save Your Job When a Work Force Reduction Looms

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 05:00 AM PDT

Article by Rebecca Metschke

Your company is about to go through a merger, or be acquired - or is facing some other form of restructuring. You're worried about your job. Is there anything you can do to save it?

In a word, yes. You can put yourself in a more favorable position.

Get proactive. Following are a few things you can do to stack the deck in your favor:

Be flexible

Be willing to take on additional responsibility, or to shift responsibilities. If your company has offices in more than one city, volunteer to relocate.

Be your own advocate

Don't expect anyone to take care of you but YOU! For example, it's not uncommon during a merger for new roles to lack clear definition - at least during the early phase of consolidating operations. You may not receive specific marching orders. Make it your responsibility to understand what the new company needs and how you can be a part of it. Communicate with your new boss; find out what he needs from you and create your new role accordingly. You must create value before you can expect reciprocity.

Take the case of the employee who, at his old company, was known to be an excellent worker. He had solid relationships with higher-ups and co-workers alike. Following his company's acquisition, this fellow was suddenly in the dark regarding his new responsibilities. It seemed as if the new parent company hadn't quite sorted through how to marry the two organizations. He figured he'd just hunker down and do what he always did...work hard. It worked before, so certainly it would work with new management, right? Wrong. His new boss had no knowledge of this fellow or what he might be capable of contributing; because his position in the merged company was redundant, he was laid off.

Volunteer to help with the transition

If your company is going through a merger or acquisition, one of the best places to be is on the transition team. This is completely counter-intuitive to what many people think; often, you'll see employees ! attempting to fly under the radar to protect their jobs. They think calling attention to themselves will make them more vulnerable, so they do their best to blend into the woodwork while management decides who's going to stay and who will go.

Instead, if you're part of the process, you have a much better chance of determining your destiny. You'll be closer to the decision makers. You'll be in a great position to get a clear understanding of the new company's requirements, its direction, and how you can help it achieve those goals. You can lobby on your own behalf.

How's your attitude?

This can be tough. A pending layoff is an extremely stressful situation. That said, it only makes a bad circumstance worse if you commiserate with co-workers on a daily basis about how lousy things are. It's human nature to be pessimistic knowing your job might be at stake, but it's not going to help you - regardless of the outcome.

Of course people are concerned about job security. They may be frustrated because they feel like they're "in the dark;" maybe they're suspicious about what management is "up to." The natural inclination is to gripe. Then productivity plummets as many employees feel they have no incentive to continue to work.

There are two reasons to avoid hanging around the water cooler for ritual grievance sessions: first, surrounding yourself with people who are constantly grumbling is going to make you feel worse, not better. Second, it'll eat up valuable time that you could be using to chart the course you'd like to take within the new company, or to figure out what your next steps will be once you move on.

Not only will maintaining a good attitude keep your stress level in check, it may save your job. If a position becomes redundant, which employee do you think management is going to retain - the one who carried on with her duties during the transition, or the one who stopped working?

Certainly your company's circumstances will dictate to some extent the cha! nces you ! may have to save your job. But it's important to bear in mind that you do have a measure of control. You may be able to survive...and even thrive.

The First Factor--Weight Loss: Neck Pain, Back Pain and Sciatica Relief!

TheBadBackGuy.net Understanding the 5 major factorscontributing to neck pain, back pain, and sciatica is crucial. In this video we discuss the 1st of the 5 factors Excess weight and obesity. We have talked about the 5 factors I feel are most responsible for neck pain, back pain, and sciatica. Of course there are others, like stress and stress-related and trauma-related events but most of those can be traced back to some sort of issue with the spine associated with one of the 5 contributory factors: 1) Excess weight and/or obesity 2) Muscle weakness (to include atrophy due to a sedentary lifestyle) 3) Muscle imbalances (perhaps the least understood of the 5 factors) 4) Inadequate diet and nutrition (a combination of the proper foods at the right times and in the right amounts) 5) Dehydration (or lack of proper hydration due to inadequate fluid intake) The 5 factors are, once again, not the only factors contributing to neck pain, back pain, and sciatica, but they are the ones that in my opinion set an individual up for: 1) Spine-related stress injuries 2) Being more susceptible to traumatic injuries to the spine 3) Being more susceptible to age-progressive phenomena (eg, degenerative disc disease) 4) And a myriad of other pathologies and injuries to the musculoskeletal system generally, and the spine specifically. Once the musculoskeletal system begins to weaken, there is a ripple effect throughout the body, both in terms of structure and function. As the body struggles to ...

Massage Therapy: Physical And Psychological Effects On Stress and Pain

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 04:00 AM PDT

Article by Dave Clark

Stress

Stress can have many triggers and many different effects on people. In our modern world, people are often under daily pressure to achieve increasing numbers of tasks in shorter periods of time.Stress may contribute to lowered immunity and can be a significant factor in the development of symptoms of both physical and mental illness.

One common physical symptom of stress is muscle tension. This often results in pain such as headaches, backache and a sore neck.Common psychological symptoms of stress are depression, anxiety, or general difficulty coping with everyday tasks.

Stress can also increase the severity of existing health complaints such as problems with digestion, period pain, and asthma.Often, the physical symptoms of stress themselves can lead to further feelings of stress, which can result in a vicious cycle. This cycle can put people at risk of serious health problems such as stomach ulcers or severe anxiety and depression.

By treating the physical symptoms of stress, your Massage Therapist can help reduce muscle tension and pain. This allows you to feel physically more comfortable and can help make things seem easier to cope with. Massage Therapy can also make sure that the systems of the body (eg: digestive/ respiratory/ circulatory), are all working efficiently and effectively to help reduce other symptoms that may be caused or aggravated by stress

Massage Therapy can also have a profound effect on the mind. It can help to improve the circulation of "feel good" hormones around the body, affecting the way you think and feel. This can help to promote a sense of calm and wellbeing.

Soothing touch encourages a natural and positive psychological response. A mother comforting a crying child by gently rubbing its head would be an example of this.Massage Therapy can help to soothe your stress away.

Pain

Pain relief can be brought about by a reduction in muscle tension. The following types of pain can be treated by your Massage Therapist by! reducing muscle tension in muscle groups surrounding/ connected to the area of pain:

Headache Backache Period Pain Muscle Strain Some types of Arthritis

Some other types of pain may also by reduce by massage therapy:Cramps can be reduced by reducing the involuntary contraction of muscles.

Abdominal pain caused by digestive problems may be reduced by improving the efficiency of the digestive system.Sinus pain can be reduced by encouraging the drainage of fluid from the face, thus reducing pressure build up.

In cases of severe pain and discomfort, the area may be too painful to allow your Massage Therapist to touch the affected area. In such cases, you must discuss this with your massage therapist, who may advise you to consult your doctor.

Stress, What It Is, How It Effects Our Bodies, And What To Do About It

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 03:00 AM PDT

Article by Mark Doyle

Stress, What it is, How it Effects our Bodies, and What to Do About It.

We live in stressful times, a recent poll shows that well over 80% of Americans say they feel the effects of stress. So what is it and how does it effect our bodies? Most importantly what can we do to combat the effects of stress in our lives?

Stress affects your body in various depleting ways. Your sympathetic nervous system becomes over stimulated which causes your body to react. Your body's production of key hormones such as cortisol, adrenaline and neurotransmitters become out of balance.

Your body responds to a perceived or real threat by keeping blood sugar levels high for quick energy. As a short-term solution to stress, this is not harmful. Chronic stress due to finical or family problems or a tendency to worry becomes a major problem. The consistently high blood sugar levels interfere with your body's ability to regulate glucose which increases your risk of developing type 2 diabetes and all the problems associated with it.

Chronic stress can cause a myriad of other health problems because it suppresses your immune system and leaves you vulnerable to any number of illnesses including hart disease and premature aging.

The brain is especially vulnerable to stress which can cause short-term memory loss and over a period of time, actual brain atrophy. It can cause mood swings, depression and anxiety. However, it is the mind which decides what is and is not stressful. Scientists have learned that it is the perception of stress rather than the duration or degree which ages cellular DNA.

This means it is something you can deal with to prevent the physical and mental problems before they do permanent damage. Many studies show it is how we look at the problems in our lives and our attitude about them determine how our bodies react.

There are a number of things you can do to cut down on stress in your life. Watching one news program after another as they mound the bad news on is one sur! e way to be stressed out. Getting up turning off the television and take a nice walk will provide an refreshing reduction of stress. Many people say praying is a good way to reduce stress.

It has been clinically proven that a good laugh is a good way to combat the effects of stress. So watch a funny stand up comic on the internet or go to a comedy club. One of the best ways to reduce stress is the old practical joke. Just as the medics at the 4077 mash did in the popular television show. Funny gifts are a great idea for your stressed out friend or co-worker.

These are indeed stressful times we hope you take a moment and have a good laugh. You will feel better and things won't look so bad after all.

Belly Fat Reduction

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 02:00 AM PDT

Article by Molly Fera

Belly fat reduction is a major concern of many people in today's modern society. Our ancestors didn't have to worry about belly fat reduction. That is because they ate different foods than we do and they got all the exercise they needed.

Today however, belly fat is common. Belly fat reduction is important because too much fat on the belly causes high blood pressure and high cholesterol. High blood sugar and heart disease is directly related to too much bell fat. Belly fat reduction is now considered more important than how much you weigh. Your waist circumference and fat distribution around your waist line can contribute to many modern diseases. Your waist to hip ratio is now a measure to be concerned with for good health.

Belly fat reduction can be accomplished by lowering your stress levels. Too much stress in your life can cause your body to produce too much of the stress hormone, cortisol. When cortisol is being produced in large quantities, belly fat is the result. That is because cortisol causes your body to store fat around your belly. Belly fat is more dangerous than any other kind of fat on your body.

To accomplish belly fat reduction, cut down on how many calories you are taking in can help as you lower your stress levels too. Start on a good weight loss program that will ensure you are getting a balanced diet. Start up an exercise routine and be faithful to follow it. Exercise is good for belly fat reduction because it not only increases your metabolism but it also is a way to release stress. Releasing stress is going to cause significant belly fat reduction for you.

Eat more fiber so you won't get hungry as often. Again, not eating as much leads to belly fat reduction. Choose your food wisely and avoid foods that have too many carbohydrates. By reducing your carbohydrate intake, belly fat reduction can be accomplished at a faster rate.

You can find a lot of books that are filled with information on belly fat reduction. Some are better than others, but a! lmost al l of them have tips on how to accomplish it that will work. It is just matter of finding the right belly fat reduction program that will work the best for your body type. Belly fat reduction will lead to better overall health for you and is really worth the effort and lifestyle change.

The only way a fitness program is really truly going to work is if you work it. I think the worst thing you could do is read a great weight loss solution and not take action. Focus+ Action = Reward. So always stay focused on your goals. The biggest thing to remember when it comes to weight loss is to not beat up on yourself. Be consistent, workout hard, and plan ahead. Set realistic approachable goals. Make sure that you make yourself accountable to your weight loss goals if you are accountable for your goals in some way you will have a better chance at achieving your goals.

Fast Weight Loss For Women-Reducing Stress At Work Helps You Lose The Fat At Home

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 01:00 AM PDT

Article by Alex Winner

Stress at work is a killer. It can come from working for a company who is in financial difficulties because of the far reaching poor economic conditions of the world today.

Or you may have stress from working with rude and nasty co-workers. Some fellow employees just can't stop making your life miserable.

Or you may report to an obnoxious boss who drives you on a daily basis, not so much for more production but just for the sake of driving you.

First of all beware of job stress. Studies have shown a relationship between having a stressful job and being overweight. So pressure at work may be giving you more than a tension headache. It may be making you fatter. Research has found that job stress can change the way your nervous system and endocrine system interact which results in weight gain. Work stress is also related to stress related binge eating. Considering the impact job stress can have on your health you will want to explore ways to decrease that stress or maybe even polish up your resume and start exploring other job possibilities.

Looking for a new job can be a stressful activity so you may want to consider dealing with the rude fellow employees and obnoxious boss. There is not much you can to about the existing financial condition. That will just have to play itself out.

You can first try and ignore your co-workers. Just do your job. If their bad behavior continues, you must let them know that it bothers you and if it doesn't stop immediately, you will take it to the higher ups. You are not getting along with these people anyway, it's time they started showing some respect for their co-workers.

Having a pain for a boss is a little different matter. You can just ignore him or her. Don't let his or her comments get to you. If you can't do that, you have to talk to him or her about it. If his or her behavior is really outside the norms of a management employee, they must know that the behavior stops today, now. Or you will go over their head the next day.!

Once you get your job situation under control, you have to drop the extra pounds the stress has added to your body over the length of your employment.

Have you ever heard of Calorie Shifting? It is the greatest thing to ever hit the weight loss industry. Calorie Shifting is as close to magic as you can get.

A diet program based on Calorie Shifting is the fastest and easiest way to lose weight. Have you ever starved yourself and didn't lose a pound? Or do you know anyone this has happened to? Our bodies detect a reduction in the amount of food we eat pretty fast. And once it does, it goes into the starvation prevention mode. Our bodies do not want to starve.

You know, that's very cool if we were starving. But it's not cool if we are trying to lose weight. Calorie Shifting fools our bodies turning us into fat burning furnaces. You just have to know what to eat, how much to eat and when to eat it. Yes, it can be that simple.

Berceli TRE Exercises - Release Truamatic Stress in Youth Case Study

www.traumaprevention.com TRE(Trauma Releasing Exercise) helps individuals release stress or tension as a result of difficult life circumstances, immediate or prolonged stressful situations, or traumatic life experiences. TRE is a set of six simple exercises that encourage and elicit shaking in a controlled and sustained manner. Evoked in this way, the neurogenic tremors release deep chronic muscular tension held within the body. Dr David Berceli Phd has pioneered TRE - Trauma Releasing Exercises, which although simple and painless, are specifically designed to release deep, chronic muscle contractions created by shock, stress or trauma. They evoke the natural most organic mechanisms of the body to dissolve chronic tension. By activating the body's natural shaking mechanism from this powerful center of the body where the defensive contraction began, the shaking can reverberate throughout the entire body looking for deep chronic tension in its path, naturally dissolving it. The uniqueness of TRE is that one follows seven simple steps to release the trauma tension pattern of the body; its natural restorative mechanism can then be immediately accessed and initiated. Once activated, the individual passively allows the shaking to extend through the body. As the tremors spread and intensify, the individual may feel the release of deep tension, the reduction of high levels of stress hormones and the restoration of the neuro processes from the instinctual limbic system of the ...

Tips For Quick Debt Reduction

Posted: 27 Aug 2012 12:00 AM PDT

Stress Reduction
by OmarC

Article by Jim Wiegman

Here we will discuss debt elimination tips and the best way to eliminate credit card debt.

Your goal should be maintaining a good credit history. When you go to get a home mortgage or car loan this will help. Bad credit will get you a mortgage, but the terms of finance may not be as good. You may have to pay a higher interest rate and put a bigger down payment upfront. It does lead to a substantial financial loss in the end.

To eliminate credit card debt is not to incur a debt at all. Use your credit card wisely and not consider credit cards as free-money. The money you spend using your credit card has to be paid back by you. If you have already have incurred heavy credit card debts, you can resort to debt elimination tips for reducing your debt burden.

Here are some recommended tips to help you get out of debt quickly:

Stop using the credit card if you are having a tough time coping with your credit card debt. Cut down your expenses, and use the money saved to pay off the debt.

Pay more than the minimum payment for quicker debt reduction. The minimum payment just about equals the finance charges. The more you pay, the quicker the debt is eliminated.

Transfer all your credit card debts to a zero percent interest credit card. Not only will you save money on interest, but also have control on the entire debt. This way you can plan your debt elimination better.

The best way to reduce your credit card debt is to incur no debt at all. However, if you have already built up credit card dues, then you can use the debt elimination tips mentioned above to quickly help you reduce your debt and lead a stress free life.

The human brain is a mini-universe. Trust it. Explore it.

Posted: 26 Aug 2012 10:00 PM PDT

I had a thought today...

Which came out of my brain...

The thought was about my brain...

My brain was thinking about itself, which is...

So cool!

The outer world entrances us. We spend most of our time and energy focused on what lies beyond the contents of our cranium. Yet the brain is indeed the most complex object in the universe.

Aside from the universe itself.

The human brain is truly awesome.

A typical, healthy one houses some 200 billion nerve cells, which are connected to one another via hundreds of trillions of synapses. Each synapse functions like a microprocessor, and tens of thousands of them can connect a single neuron to other nerve cells. In the cerebral cortex alone, there are roughly 125 trillion synapses, which is about how many stars fill 1,500 Milky Way galaxies.

Anyway, back to my thought...

What if, whether we're religiously or scientifically or otherwise-minded, this amazingly complex mini-universe of the human brain, which really isn't part of us, but is us, contains The Secret we yearn to know, even though we don't really know what we're looking for, have no idea where this mystery can be found, and wouldn't recognize it even if we stumbled across it?

By which I mean to say, assuming this second saying is any more meaningful than my first attempt...

What if we simply relaxed, and told ourselves (who are our brains), "I trust you; show me; surprise me; bubble up into consciousness The Secret lurking inside those billions of nerve cells and trllions of synapses"?

What would happen? What could happen? What should happen?

I have no idea. I'm just a few neurons sitting on the surface of my brain's conscious awareness typing out some thoughts.

There's a lot more going on beneath the surface of the brain that is me.

Show me, Me. Surprise me, Me. Just a thought...

The Compassion and Attention Longitudinal Meditation Study (CALM) will help scientists determine how people's bodies, minds and hearts respond to stress and which specific meditation practices are better at turning down those responses. "While much attention has been paid to meditation practices that emphasize calming the mind, improving focused attention or developing mindfulness, less is known about meditation practices designed to specifically foster compassion, and what specific problems can be alleviated through this practice," says Charles Raison, associate professor in Emory's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and principle investigator of the study. Ultimate Stress Relief From A Special Salt Bath

Posted: 26 Aug 2012 08:00 PM PDT

Article by Frank Rodriguez

<img src="http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-10/1098937/floatationtank.jpg" align="left">The flotation tank is a widely misunderstood and underutilized form of hydrotherapy that has been successfully used since the 1970s to reduce stress, relieve pain and sore muscles, improve sleep, enhance athletic performance and more. This article briefly explains what makes all of these benefits possible. Multiple therapies are occurring when you use a isolation tank. First and most obvious is the neutralization of gravity. Deep sea divers and astronauts are the only other people who are able to enjoy this break from gravity's constant pressure. For this reason, most people are unaware of the level of physical relief that occurs when gravity is neutralized. I was recently at a seminar on spinal decompression that was hosted by a chiropractor. During his presentation, the doctor said that if we could get free of gravity, we could eliminate back pain. I used the low gravity environment of the isolation tank to accelerate the healing process of sciatic pain caused by a pinched nerve in my lower back. Using the isolation tank, I was able to bring six years of increasingly debilitating back pain to a complete stop by using the isolation tank for several hours over a 3 day period. That was seven years ago. I still have a pinched nerve, but I no longer have the symptoms thanks to. After looking at x-rays of my back, my doctor concluded that I should still be in constant pain. In fact, he's surprised that I can stand and walk straight. He attributes my recovery to flotation therapy. Magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt) is a mild muscle relaxant, which contributes to the deep relaxation experienced during a floatation session. When you're in a isolation, your brain responds to this deep relaxation by releasing endorphins. This feel-good neurochemical is very effective in relieving pain, improving mood and boosting the immune system. This effect can last for days. Of important note is the reduction of the stress hormo! ne cortisol. Also reduced is lactic acid, which causes muscle soreness). These benefits make a powerful complement to sports training and physical therapy. The Australian Olympic team has been using floatation tank therapy for years for this very purpose. Other elite athletes who have benefitted from using the isolation tank are the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia Phillies, Olympic gold medalists Carl Lewis and Phillips Idowu, Ironman Champion Peter Reid and British soccer star Wayne Rooney.Of all these benefits, perhaps the one that makes floatation tank therapy most unique is the fact that during a floatation session, a person's brainwaves transition from from beta to theta. Theta is the brainstate where accelerated healing occurs and is also a state characterized by vivid imagery and enhanced creativity. It's a normal state of mind that everyone experiences while they're asleep, but only while floating can you remain awake while your brainwaves are in the theta state. Actually, there are highly trained Zen meditators who can maintain wakefulness while in the theta state, but that's a very small number. If someone suffers chronic pain, hypertension or insomnia, they're probably not getting the benefits of theta when they're sleeping. The extended theta state experienced during a typical flotation session is the reason why many users report that 1 hour in the floatation tank feels like 4-8 hours of restful sleep. Natural Blood Pressure Reduction with Modifications of Lifestyle

Posted: 26 Aug 2012 07:00 PM PDT

Article by Alvin Hopkinson

It is vital that you can achieve control over your hypertension and lower your blood pressure to a healthy number. Some methods you can use include medication, but there is also a way for you to use natural blood pressure reduction methods. For the most part, this will consist of modifying your diet, exercising regularly and reducing stress.

As far as the diet is concerned, it is important that you are eating healthy foods in the proper sized portions. You should increase the protein, limit or eliminate alcohol, add fiber rich foods to your diet and try to avoid any extra sodium and salt. Here are five tips that can help you lower your alt intake:

- Avoid fast food and prepared meals. These are often loaded with salt and sodium. Be cautious of the condiments you are using as well, many of them are also high in salt.

- Don't just buy something because it claims to be good for you. Actually take the time to read the contents of the product on the label. Foods with low sodium are ideal.

- When you consume foods that are high in sodium you should try to also include foods that are very good for you. These can include fresh fruits and vegetables.

- When you are eating out it is important that you ask that the salt be left out of your meal. Generally, this can be done upon request at most restaurants.

- When you are cooking you should avoid using salt. If you can not avoid the salt instead of adding it in the beginning you should add it at the end when the meal is almost completed. This will actually cut down on the amount that needs to be used because the flavor will not be diluted while cooking.

Another great way for you to control your hypertension is through exercise as well. If you are currently living a lifestyle that is fit for a couch potato, it is time to get your body moving. If you are not exercising even moderately you could very well be increasing your level of risk for also being diagnosed with heart disease. Here are some of the best reasons! you should include exercise into your daily activities:

* You can increase your overall health.

* Your mental state can be dramatically changed with regular exercise.

* The heart itself can become stronger.

* You will have more energy.

* You will be happier with the way you look.

* Circulation can be improved.

It is important that you begin an exercise routine slowly at first. Overdoing it can cause you unnecessary pain and discomfort that will likely lead to reluctance to continue. You should also consult with your medical care provider before you begin even a light routine.

Your doctor should be able to suggest some exercises to begin with and slowly work your way up to a more vigorous routine, with the approval of our doctor.

Here are a few suggestions of questions you can ask your doctor about exercising. This should be able to help you determine the routine that will best suit your needs without disturbing any other medical conditions.

- What type of exercises are safe for my condition?

- How frequently should I exercise?

- Are there any exercises I should avoid?

- Can I change the times I take my medication to fit into my new exercise schedule?

- Do I have to change when I take certain medications so they do not interfere with my exercise regimen?

- Should I take my pulse during my routine or wait until I am done?

- How do I take my pulse the right way?

These are just some tips that you can take advantage of to use natural blood pressure reduction methods. You might have to modify them to meet your requirements. It might also be recommended by your physician to alter these methods in order to benefit you the most.

Meningioma Diagnosis? - Keep Stress In Check With Rest and Relaxation

Posted: 26 Aug 2012 06:00 PM PDT

Article by Roy Carter

A shock to the system? You bet your life it is! A time for sleep and rest will be furthest from your mind if you have just been diagnosed with a meningioma brain tumor. Thoughts of how to tell your family and loved ones make you even more anxious as you try to wear that brave face and this can leave you emotionally drained and desperately in need of rest and relaxation to face the challenges ahead.

It is essential that you have the strength to meet these challenges both physically and emotionally. You may have to make some of the most important decisions of your life right now, and you need to face these decisions with clarity, despite the upheaval all around you.

There are countless tried and tested methods of relaxation from lavender pillows to yoga. Many will be available to you in some guise or other, via your local community or through a simple internet search. You may feel that now is not the time to master new techniques and skills and therefore may not be looking at this as an experience that could be relaxing.

Giving yourself time to think, is every bit as effective. This does not mean time to worry, get agitated or drown in self pity. It means allowing yourself time to digest all the meningioma facts, how you feel about it and setting your resolve to deal with it.

In a stressful state your muscles tighten, all over your body. Sleep will be very difficult to achieve and your energy levels will be severaly tested. It is enough that you are dealing with the meningioma symptoms themselves without the addition of further physical stress. A walk along the beach, a quiet place in the park or a place that is special to you can provide the perfect atmosphere to remove you from your suddenly acquired stress inducing, thought-clutter. A relaxed state brings about a decrease in muscle tension, a reduction in blood pressure and your rate of breathing slows.

The fact that a good nights sleep can help cure all has long been accepted. Sleep will be needed more than ever now! to deal with your day and to provide you with the extra energy that will be required to get through. A good nights sleep on a regular basis will aide your well being and increase resistance to the everyday niggling complaints such as the common cold. If a reasonable period of sleep or a time for quality relaxation can be achieved you will be better able to concentrate, you will feel less vulnerable and be better able to take control of events happening to you.

This special relaxation time does not need to be spent alone, but it is better to be away from situations that cause your stress, and don't forget, the people that you love the most may be the ones that you feel most stressed about sharing the details of your meningioma brain tumour with. If you are rested and relaxed, your emotions more stable so you have a better chance of sharing with and keeping close, the people most important to you.

Ultimately, the most important issue is that you understand your meningioma brain tumour - and for that you need a clear head!
