Article by Jason Stacey

The demand for yoga clothes is growing rapidly as this ancient Indian discipline becomes popular by the day. It's all about finding comfort with style in good quality fabrics.

Walking for Exercise on the Rise in US, Especially in Southerners and Men

People in the U.S. are walking more now than in the past, particularly those who live in the South, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Overall, 62 percent of U.S. adults said they walked for 10 minutes or more at least once during the previous week in 2010. That's up from 56 percent who said the same in 2005, a 6 percent increase over the five-year period.

The South saw the biggest increase in the percentage of people who reported walking, increasing 8 percentage points from 49 percent in 2005 to 57 percent in 2010. The rate among men in the South increased more than that of women, with men seeing a 9.6 percent jump over the five years, while the rate among women rose 5.7 percent.

The West had the largest percentage of walkers, with 68 percent of people reporting walking for 10 minutes a week in 2010. In the Northeast and Midwest, the percentages were 66 percent and 61 percent, respectively.

The age group that saw the biggest increase over the five-year period was 25- to 34-year-olds. The percentage of all people in this group who reported walking was 65.2 percent in 2010, and men again showed a larger increase (11.4 percent) than women (7.2 percent) from 2005 levels.

Physical activity provides health benefits, including a lower risk for heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, depression and some cancers, the CDC says. However, only about half of U.S. adults (48 percent) get enough physical activity to improve their health. It is recommended that adults get at least 2.5 hours of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity a week to reap health benefits, the CDC says. (Moderate physical activity includes walking.)

While the increases in walking seen in this report are encouraging, "There is still room for improvement," said Joan M. Dorn, of the CDC's Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity. "People need more safe and convenient places to walk," Dorn said.

Ways to provide better walking spaces include increased access to walking trails, creating walking paths around a worksite and establishing agreements to let community residents use school tracks and gyms after school hours, the CDC says.

The report appears today (Aug. 7) in the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

Pass it on: Close to two-thirds of Americans get exercise from walking, but there is room for improvement.

Meditation For Beginners

Posted: 07 Aug 2012 11:00 AM PDT

Article by Jodi Pearson

Face it - our daily lives are full of struggles and stresses. We all need to learn to slow down and basically stop and smell the roses. A lot of our stress is self induced by overloading our work and social schedules just to keep up the pace with everyone else we know. You need to be aware that Stress is the breeding background to all mental and emotional ailments. Learning to Meditate is one of the best ways to reduce stress and live a healthy and happy life.

Meditation traditionally is done with focusing on objects like candle, or your breath. When you meditate, your mind and body relaxes and you will experience inner peace. Staying focused is one of the techniques that will help you get better results. Using Meditation as part of your life skills will also help in developing your concentration levels. Although there are many non-believers that feel Meditation is not for them they have not given this method of relieving stress an honest try. Popping pills to relieve stress and anxiety is costly whereas learning the techniques to Meditation is free and that anyone can easily learn meditation and if you practice it regularly it will help in knowing yourself better.

One of the first techniques that is very important for meditation is breathing exercises. First find a quiet place or room, sit down and relax, then close your eyes and start counting your breaths. Simply breathe in and breathe out and pay attention to the sensation of your breath coming in. When doing the breathing exercises only breathe in and out through your nostrils. This will help you concentrate or meditate. When doing this exercise for a while, you will notice that your focus on counting your breaths is increasing and your contact with the outside world is reducing. Keep your eyes closed as this will help keep you focused during this process.

Chanting or some other form of mantra is also a technique used with meditation. The Hindu culture use meditation on a daily basis and use the word OM as it considered a ma! gical healing power. The skill lies in not just speaking it but chanting it from the bottom of your heart. You can use any form of mantra and the key is to chant it again and again so that your mind starts focusing on it. Remember to keep you're your eyes closed, breathe in and out through your nose while chanting. You will find that the longer you chant and meditate you will start gaining inner peace leaving the outside world behind you.

Thinking positive thoughts during meditation will have a positive effect on your body as your thoughts have a direct influence on your body. This is called self healing meditation which is involves deep meditation. Through this, positive energy is produced in our body that increases the healing process. Once achieving this deep form of meditation you will feel stress and anxiety leaving your body which will also lower your blood pressure and you have started healing yourself.

It is said that meditation is at its best when practiced early in for morning as your mind is fresh and helps you to stay focused. If you do not have time in the morning then mediate in the evening as this will help you to reduce the stress of the day, relax your mind and body and help you get a good night's sleep.

Yoga Photography: Showcasing the Art and Beauty of Yoga

Posted: 07 Aug 2012 10:00 AM PDT

Article by Reginald Daugherty

Historians say yoga originated in India about 5,000 years ago. Until today, it is still practiced by people who want to enjoy the health benefits this discipline offers. As yoga experts can attest, this practice implements a holistic approach-it can improve one's physical, mental, and spiritual state. Ultimately, yoga aims to give one a well-balanced life.

Performing different yoga positions can enhance one's body strength, blood pressure, endurance, and balance. One's quality of sleep, dexterity skills, and even eye-hand coordination can improve as well. Aside from these physiological benefits, one can also gain psychological benefits by practicing yoga, such as better memory and concentration. Yoga can come in various disciplines such as hatha, bikram, kundalini or vinsaya, and each has its own goal and set of poses.

Health enthusiasts are not the only ones who find yoga fascinating; photographers have also taken a liking to this ancient practice. Photographers dedicated to yoga capture the element of life, feeling, or mood that a certain yoga pose portrays. They aim to preserve the harmony of the depth, angle, and shadowing of yoga poses. Yoga poses can be captured in various settings, such as on a seashore, a mountain area, or simply at yoga studios.

The meditation pose is a popular subject among photographers. This pose is done by sitting still and unmoved for a certain period. When doing this pose, you should sit with your back straightened, legs crossed, and feet tucked in behind your knees. It may not always be obvious in yoga photos, but meditation postures help one to relax and achieve peace.

Yoga poses are normally classified according to their difficulty: beginners, intermediate, and advanced. For beginners who want to record their progress, they can ask professional photographers to take pictures of them doing various basic poses. These yoga images can inspire them to go further and master the following levels.

A yoga photo can also serve as a remembrance! of a si gnificant achievement for yoga practitioners. If you have recently performed an extremely difficult pose and you want to preserve that moment, why not enlist the services of a professional yoga photographer? This way, your hard work and the beauty of your craft can last a lifetime. If you want to know more about different yoga poses, you can browse websites that feature galleries of yoga pictures, such as yoga.about.com/od/yogaphotogalleries/a/photogalleries.htm. You can also check out http://www.abc-of-yoga.com/beginnersguide/yogabenefits.asp to learn more about the physiological and psychological benefits of yoga.

Yoga reduces inflammation response

Posted: 07 Aug 2012 10:00 AM PDT

UCLA study helps caregivers of people with dementia

Six months ago, researchers at UCLA published a study that showed using a specific type of yoga to engage in a brief, simple daily meditation reduced the stress levels of people who care for those stricken by Alzheimer's and dementia. Now they know why.

As previously reported, practicing a certain form of chanting yogic meditation for just 12 minutes daily for eight weeks led to a reduction in the biological mechanisms responsible for an increase in the immune system's inflammation response. Inflammation, if constantly activated, can contribute to a multitude of chronic health problems.

Reporting in the current online edition of the journal Psychoneuroendocrinology, Dr. Helen Lavretsky, senior author and a professor of psychiatry at the UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, and colleagues found in their work with 45 family dementia caregivers that 68 of their genes responded differently after Kirtan Kriya Meditation (KKM), resulting in reduced inflammation.

Caregivers are the unsung heroes for their yeoman's work in taking care of loved ones that have been stricken with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, said Lavretsky, who also directs UCLA's Late-Life Depression, Stress and Wellness Research Program. But caring for a frail or demented family member can be a significant life stressor. Older adult caregivers report higher levels of stress and depression and lower levels of satisfaction, vigor and life in general. Moreover, caregivers show higher levels of the biological markers of inflammation. Family members in particular are often considered to be at risk of stress-related disease and general health decline.

As the U.S. population continues to age over the next two decades, Lavretsky noted, the prevalence of dementia and the number of family caregivers who provide support to these loved ones will increase dramatically. Currently, at least five million Americans provide care for someone with dementia.

"We know that chronic stress places caregivers at a higher risk for developing depression," she said "On average, the incidence and prevalence of clinical depression in family dementia caregivers approaches 50 percent. Caregivers are also twice as likely to report high levels of emotional distress." What's more, many caregivers tend to be older themselves, leading to what Lavretsky calls an "impaired resilience" to stress and an increased rate of cardiovascular disease and mortality.

Research has suggested for some time that psychosocial interventions like meditation reduce the adverse effects of caregiver stress on physical and mental health. However, the pathways by which such psychosocial interventions impact biological processes are poorly understood.

In the study, the participants were randomized into two groups. The meditation group was taught the 12-minute yogic practice that included Kirtan Kriya, which was performed every day at the same time for eight weeks. The other group was asked to relax in a quiet place with their eyes closed while listening to instrumental music on a relaxation CD, also for 12 minutes daily for eight weeks. Blood samples were taken at the beginning of the study and again at the end of the eight weeks.

"The goal of the study was to determine if meditation might alter the activity of inflammatory and antiviral proteins that shape immune cell gene expression," said Lavretsky. "Our analysis showed a reduced activity of those proteins linked directly to increased inflammation.

"This is encouraging news. Caregivers often don't have the time, energy, or contacts that could bring them a little relief from the stress of taking care of a loved one with dementia, so practicing a brief form of yogic meditation, which is easy to learn, is a useful too."

Lavretsky is a member of UCLA's recently launched Alzheimer's and Dementia Care Program, which provides comprehensive, coordinated care as well as resources and support to patients and their caregivers. Lavretsky has incorporated yoga practice into the caregiver program.

Kundalini meditation is a form of traditional meditation that has been in practice since last many centuries. This type of meditation is closely linked with the Hindu Chakra system which are the psycho-spiritual energy centers occurring along the spine. If you meet the Buddha in the produce aisle, eat him

Posted: 07 Aug 2012 09:00 AM PDT

A funny thing: If you go to Google Images and search for "bad Spiritual Consciousness art" (don't ask) you'll find that the first result is of a pear shaped like a Buddha. No, it's not like one of those potatoes that looks like Mickey Mouse — a freak of nature. It's a cultivated pear.

And there's not just one of them. According to Toxel.com, a Chinese farmer called Hao Xianzhang has been growing pears inside Buddha shaped plastic molds. And he sells them. For 50 Yuan, which is, at today's rate of exchange, just over $ 7.85.

It's cute, but I'm not sure many Spiritual Consciousnesss would want to bite into the juicy flesh of the Fully and Perfectly Awakened One, or how many non-Buddhists would be willing to shell out almost $ 8 for the same privilege.

Causes of Stress For Sales People

Posted: 07 Aug 2012 08:00 AM PDT

Article by Richard Stone

Field salespeople are faced with countless stress factors in their daily life - they encounter traffic, visit difficult customers and are often separated from their families for days at a time. If in addition to that there is stress between the salesperson and the sales manager, a reduction in performance is almost unavoidable.

In a recent study of field salespeople, scientists have identified possible stress factors and researched their significance for workers. The stress factors were divided into two categories - stress factors which result from the structures and conditions in businesses and stress factors which are determined by situations in daily work.

The most important organisation determined stress factors are:

Too intensive regulation and formalisation of procedures. They hinder the field salesperson in striking out on unconventional but successful paths, which must necessarily lead to conflicts with the sales manager.

A lack of flexibility in the company. There are many companies in which everything is officially regulated and formalised. The question is how the superiors implement these rules. The more flexible they are in their interpretation, the better the salesperson feels.

What salespeople value. Regardless of all the rumours (between managers), intangible incentives like freedom to act, communication and management style are more imperative to the majority of employees than material aspects of the job. Among the most important management tools is agreement of goals, without which a culture of management as employees want it, is not possible.

Intangible motivations

Attractiveness of the motivation (1 being low and 4 being high) Management style 4

Freedom to act 4

Communication 4

Working conditions 3

Work place security 3

Contents of tasks 3

Career opportunities 4

Recognition / status 2

Position 1

Tangible motivations

Attractiveness of the motivation (1 being low and 4 being high)!

P ension provision 4

Company car 3

Continued salary payments during illness 3

Employee participation 3

Performance premiums 3

Fixed income 2

Accident insurance 2

Holiday 2

Other ancillary services 3

The reward system. The more the sales manager becomes involved in deciding the salary of their sales people, the more critically they are watched in the way they do this. Stress or friction could be caused if the salesperson feels unfairly treated.

The autonomy of the field salesperson. The more freely they can organise their time and work the less stress they experience in their dealings with the sales manager. The level of empowerment given to salespeople is not an easy subject however is covered on management courses.

The existence of friendship and good working relations within the sales organisation. When field sales people are dealt with in a compassionate manner their treatment of each other is better they mutually support each other, they also feel less stress with their boss.

The professionalism of the field sales team. The more feedback and mutual stimulation the salespeople supply, the less they need their boss. A really professional troop motivates and guides itself largely on its own.

Now to the stress factors determined by situation:

Too many meetings Lack of personnel in the field sales organisation Conflicts with other departments in the business Too short deadlines for reports Technical problems with presentation aids or means of communication

Those questioned assessed the significance of the stress factors by means of a seven point scale from 1 = of no significance whatsoever, to 7 = very great significance:

Stress factor Average value over all those questioned

Friendship and good relations with colleagues 4.7

Lack of autonomy 4.6

Too short deadlines 4.3

Unfair reward system 4.3

Lack of professionalism 4.2

Lack of personnel 3.9

Too much regulation and formal! isation 3.7

Lack of efficiency 3.6

Conflicts with other departments 3.5

Too little flexibility 3.5

Too many meetings 3.3

Technical problems 2.5

It is primarily the stress factors determined by the organisation which play a role in sales. Of the stress factors determined by situations only deadlines for giving in reports which are set too short have any weight.

Almost all stress factors determined by the organisation, with the exception of "lack of friendship and good relations with colleagues", can be influenced and ordered by the sales manager on behalf of their employees.

Managing the stress levels and the motivation of a sales force is a vital factor to ongoing high performance which is a key subject on all good management courses.

Hair-Loss Drug May Cause Severe Depression in Some Men

Men who take the hair-loss medication Propecia and develop sexual side effects may be at risk for severe depression and suicidal thoughts, a new study suggests.

In the study, 64 percent of men who developed long-lasting sexual side effects from the drug also reported experiencing moderate or severe symptoms of depression, and nearly 40 percent reported suicidal thoughts.

Low libido and erectile dysfunction have been reported in men taking Propecia, and in some, the side effects persist after the medication is stopped. It is not known how many men experience long-lasting sexual side effects from Propecia, but it is thought to be a small percentage.

Doctors and Propecia users should be aware of the potential serious risks of the medication, "especially as it is being used cosmetically, to alter a normal age-related process," said study researcher Dr. Michael Irwig, an assistant professor of medicine at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Washington, D.C.

However, the findings are preliminary, and further research is needed to confirm them.

Propecia and depression

Irwig interviewed 61 young men whose average age was 25, who had previously used finasteride (the generic name for Propecia). All the men had experienced sexual side effects for at least three months after they stopped taking the medication. They had not experienced sexual problems before taking the medication, and did not have a history of mental illness.

The study also included interviews with 29 men with male-pattern baldness who had not taken finasteride.

All participants answered questions about their symptoms of depression over the last two weeks.

Among those who had used finasteride, 11 percent had mild symptoms of depression, 28 percent had moderate symptoms and 36 percent had severe symptoms. Thirty-nine percent reported suicidal thoughts, and an additional 5 percent answered "yes" when asked whether they agreed with the statement "I would like to kill myself."

Among those who had not used finasteride, the prevalence of depression was much lower: 10 percent had mild symptoms, and none had moderate or severe symptoms. Three percent of men in this group had suicidal thoughts.

"The potential life-threatening side-effects associated with finasteride should prompt clinicians to have serious discussions with their patients," Irwig said.

Effects on the brain

It's possible sexual dysfunction leads to depression, but previous studies have found a much lower rate of depression among men with erectile dysfunction than was found in the current study. This suggests that the medication may be causing symptoms of depression, possibly by changing the concentrations of certain brain chemicals, Irwig said. In 2010, Propecia's label was changed to include depression as a side effect.

Many of the men in the study had participated in an online forum dedicated to helping men deal with lasting side effects of Propecia. Because of this, the group of men studied may not fairly represent all those who take the medication and experience side effects.

More research is needed to determine whether men who take Propecia and do not experience sexual side effects also have depression and suicidal thoughts, Irwig said.

The study is published online today (Aug. 7) in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry.

Christian Debt Reduction - Debt Free Acceleration

Posted: 07 Aug 2012 07:00 AM PDT

Article by Robert Carleton

Christian debt reduction services have helped thousands of people all over the United States become debt free and they can help you too. Just like with any of the many debt consolidation companies out there, research the Christian organizations to get yourself the best deal.

Some of the benefits the debt reduction company you choose should offer you are no hidden or upfront fees. If they tell you you need to pay upfront, steer clear of them and keep on researching other companies. Christian or not, giving up your hard earned money without any work being done is unethical and downright wrong.

A good Christian debt consolidation company should tell you they can get those high interest credit card or loan rates reduced or outright eliminated along with all the over-the-limit fees and late charges and negotiate lower interest rates. Just by accomplishing this the debt consolidation company can help you reduce your debt by up to 70%.

Lower interest rates mean lower monthly payments and if you choose to consolidate your debt you will only be required to make one low monthly payment to pay down all the credit card or other unsecured debt you may have, like overdue medical bills.

How nice would it be to be rid of all the late fees and stop getting all those harassing collection phone calls every day? I think that would help reduce not only the debt you have but your stress level as well. And if your stress level is decreased then you will sleep better and be able to function better in your daily life.

The Background Of Meditation Is Stuffed With Contention

Posted: 07 Aug 2012 07:00 AM PDT

Article by Colin Short

The historical past of meditation is stuffed with controversy, as there is no proof on when meditation really commenced. It is speculated that meditation started at the conception of fire, when humans would stare and meditate into the flames. Nevertheless, there is no published proof of this becoming the situation, or any established framework on how these possible meditations were done.It is believed that the very first published notice, and therefore the commencing of the historical past of meditation, began over five thousand years in the past in India. No one in particular is completely certain which spiritual group began these meditations, as the evidence is the description of tantras that have been noted as being carried out. Regardless of whether or not there were tantras done prior to 5 thousand years in the past is unsure, as these tantras may have been verbally handed down through the generations. The modern day historical past of meditation started in five hundred B.C., when the Buddha began establishing his types of meditations to the world. It was in the course of Buddha's time that meditation began to spread from India into other Asian nations. Ultimately, these teachings would be passed to all of the nations of the planet, making it 1 of the most widespread religions to date. The teachings of the Buddha, birthed as Siddhartha Gautama, had been faithfully transcribed by the monks who followed him soon following his demise sometime in 480 to 470 B.C. Numerous of the unique teachings of the Buddha have been handed down orally until his demise, exactly where they had been scribed into a sequence of transcripts nevertheless used to guide Buddhists to this very day. Included in these writings is information on the lifestyles of ancient India, as well as the philosophies that are the basis of the beliefs of modern Buddhists. From the teachings of the Buddha, as well as from other sources in India, the historical past of meditation developed into something more than 1 or two religions practici! ng the a rt. Now, there are hundreds of types of meditation, both inside and outside the teachings of the Buddha, that enable folks of all religions to appreciate meditation. Even Christianity has borrowed some of the elements of the Asian meditations, notably by means of the use of prayer beads and holy mantras utilized in the course of worship. There is some speculation that some types of meditation existed inside of the early biblical days, as some of the behaviors described in the Old Testaments of the bible are really similar to some of the meditations practiced by Asian religions. It is unknown if there was any influences shared between Christianity and Asian religions, or if what was practiced in the Bible was genuinely types of meditation.

Office Noise: Work Stress That Leads To Lack Of Productivity

Posted: 07 Aug 2012 06:00 AM PDT

Article by Frank Barnett

Noise is one of the most irritating elements in the workplace. Exposure to office noise such as gossips, texting, keyboard tapping, whirring machines, bathroom trips and social coffee breaks definitely makes it difficult to concentrate on specific tasks. This loss of time could then result in a staggering loss of productivity, which means a significant loss of profits on the part of the company. In 2008 alone, approximately 0 billion worth of profits were lost because of the distractions brought about by workplace noise.Frequent exposure to unwanted office noise is said to be closely linked to a variety of stress effects among employees. Among the most notable are increased levels of cardiovascular and neuroendocrine activities, concentration loss, fatigue and reduced motivation. It has also been stated that the impact of noise on the performance of employees is dependent on a variety of factors, including the nature of noise and the task that an employee is doing while hearing such noise. Accordingly, the effects of unpredictable noise are more severe compared to predictable noise. Likewise, the impact of noise, whether predictable or unpredictable, increases when the task being performed is complex.Office noise is also associated with a number of psychosocial conditions. Consequently, it has been found out that such type of noise could amplify the diastolic blood pressure of employees who are unhappy with their jobs and employees who are not given appropriate support by their co-workers and bosses. Similarly, unlike workers who experience no change or reductions in noise, employees who are frequently subject to noise after they have relocated from one location in the office to the other are showing signs of dissatisfaction with their new environment, which may actually lead to general loss of enthusiasm on their jobs. With the aforementioned effects associated with work noise, as the person in charge inside the workplace, it is just reasonable that you would like your workers to exemplify product! ivity on their assigned jobs. And, it is likely that if you could easily blot out these disruptive elements without necessarily shelling out excessive amounts in order to boost the satisfaction and productivity of your employees, you would certainly do it yourself. There are actually numerous forms of inexpensive yet high quality speech privacy systems that you could employ to help you with the noise issue in your workplace.Sound masking is probably one of the most widely used noise reduction systems in many offices today. Also referred to as "white noise," this system has the capability to make a productive and noise-free work environment by blocking out disruptive sounds, which in turn allow employees to focus on their jobs. This system has a technology that follows the principle of oral privacy-a process through which speech and other types of disruptive sounds are made fathomless to the human ears. That is, the said system fills in the occupied sound spectrum surrounding the employees with barely audible levels of noise in order to make distracting human speech unintelligible.Sound masking can be done through the use of mechanical devices intended to reduce noise as well natural office landscapes. Indoors, machines producing calming sounds resembling air conditioning noise are being utilized to block out outdoor noise and to secure sensitive information or conversations. Outdoors, this sound reduction system can be in the form of man-made waterfalls, fountains or other flowing water features. By the time these privacy systems are properly integrated in strategic locations inside the office, you could expect increased productivity and satisfaction among your employees with their newly found silence.

The gifted practitioner

Posted: 07 Aug 2012 06:00 AM PDT

There are many grades of Buddhist practitioners from the clueless newbie who believes enlightenment is just around the corner, to a Buddhist practitioner living in a small hut made of stone in China's Zhongnan Mountain range.  The very best ones are busy at work trying to achieve gnosis (jรฑรขna) of pure Mind or the same, suchness (tathatรข).  They realize that it is a serious lifelong endeavor.

The West has no such tradition.  It even frowns upon it.  Such a tradition probably died with Plotinus.  Mind and/or consciousness is given short shrift in the West's monophasic culture.  It is all but ignored in biology, for example.   It is sad to read what Western Buddhists believe the nature of Mind is. They have it confused with the fifth aggregate vijรฑรขna which is sensory consciousness or just awareness.  What compounds the problem is Western arrogance: that one actually believes that direct gnosis of pure or absolute Mind is easy.  But given that pure Mind has zero in the way of distinguishing marks, the task of accomplishing direct gnosis is almost Herculean in difficulty.

For a Westerner, at some point, they have to leave their intellectual world behind which treats the gnosis of pure Mind "as if" actually attained; which further leads, unfortunately, to a proliferation of ideations that are treated as if real.

The gifted practitioner, at at some point in his career, first realizes that primordially he is pure Mind or suchness (tathatรข) which is the very stuff from which everything is composed.  The problem he faces, however, is not an easy hurdle.  He cannot see pure Mind among his thoughts or externally; he is completely hampered by its phenomenalizations.  Yes, even the spring flowers growing by the stream, although beautiful to look at, block his vision.  Although it is everywhere present, the presence of the absolute hides in its utter purity so that it seems to be nothing in which only phenomena exist.

The most gifted practitioner realizes that phenomena have a limit whereas one's (yet, unrecognized) intrinsic primordiality does not.  Pure Mind, before it has fully realized itself, when it becomes one pointed (ekรขgra), can eventually pierce through the phenomenal veil and meet with itself (samadhi).  This is suggesting that one pointedness is never plural, being one and primary (eka).  In virtue of this, and being primary, one pointedness makes it way through the riot of mental phenomena (i.e., plurality) so that it returns to itself, which is an epiphany like no other.

In the mean time, our clueless self-indulgent newbie practitioner cannot even dream or imagine what the gifted practitioner has realized.  He is content to go to his local Dharma center and sit motionless on his arse, believing this is the Buddha's path, arguing with anyone who disagrees with him.  While it satisfies his vanity he is deceiving himself.  He has no genuine intention of getting off the cosmic ferris wheel of samsara.

How to find time for meditation in your daily routine

Posted: 07 Aug 2012 05:00 AM PDT

Article by Joe

Most people don't meditate because of a supposed lack of timeYes, at first we all meditate 15 minutes a day, but after some time, priorities kick in and we neglect our practice. Beginners might also not do meditation because they might think "I don't have time to just sit and do nothing!". This article is answer to them.

You don't need to sit or lie to meditate, do dynamic meditation!Still meditation is only useful in the early stages of your learning process, so you learn that you are not your mind and that you can be free from its influence. Then, the next step is adding some movement to your practice, meditating while living your daily routine.

In any moment of your day, decide to meditate right now and stay in the present moment. I like to meditate while driving because I used to think it was such a waste of time. What I do is stay conscious of my breathing, my emotions, and whatch for toughts, but the biggest part of my attention is on the road (remember that I'm driving). Do this for anything, and you won't have to meditate another minute in your life!

Be flexible, rigid entities breakIn our modern life, we all have constant changes to our daily schedule, if you don't allow yourself to be flexible as to when you meditate, you won't do it for long. See what fits your schedule and place it there.

Also, don't say «I will meditate for 15 minutes every day». Pick an average, but allow yourself to do 5 minutes one day and 20 minutes the other. You should also take days off, to relax a little.

You don't need meditate for a long time to enjoy the benefitsIn fact, I only do sitting meditation about 5 minutes a day, right before I go to sleep. Still, it helpsme clear my toughts and get rid of stress so I sleep fast and I have a great night. Some people like it in the morning or at night, some prefer to do it randomly. I like to say that it's not the quantity that counts but the frequency. If you are a beginner, try this free meditation exerci! ce, it lasts only 5 minutes, so you don't have an excuse.

Use times when you are waitingDo you take the bus, drive to work, wait in line or simply watch something on television when it doesn't even interests you? Take this time to meditate and optimise your time.

That's it, enjoy the gift of meditation now

Two Easy Ways to Try Meditation and Feel Better

Posted: 07 Aug 2012 04:00 AM PDT

Article by Sandra Jones

Meditation is a practice that has been around for centuries, and for good reason. Not only is meditation a wonderful way to relieve stress, there is medical evidence emerging to show that the practice of meditation can boost a person' immune system, lower cholesterol, end insomnia, improve circulation, counter anxiety, ease chronic pain and may even allow a person to live a longer life. These are all wonderful reasons to give meditation a try.

There are several different methods of meditation that are not complicated and can easily be incorporated into your regular daily routine. And since there are so many varied ways to meditate, finding one that works well for you should be simple. Here we will discuss two different ways to meditate daily. Each will help you calm your mind and bring your attention to only one thing. For many people, this may be a challenge since multitasking is ingrained in us and seen as a wonderful skill for all kinds of careers and even in our personal lives. But in time, you'll be able to meditate with ease and realize the extreme benefits that come from this ancient practice.

Basic Breath Mediation is based on the foundation of all meditation techniques - breathing. We are always breathing but we rarely pay any attention to it. Practicing Basic Breath Meditation forces you to become aware of your breathing, each time you inhale and exhale. Observe how you breathe, pay attention to it, feel where your breath moves within your body and eventually you can change your breathing. You can actually use this meditation technique anytime and anywhere. It's a good idea to start by practicing this technique for about 10 minutes a day and then gradually work your way up 15 then 20 minutes daily.

Here are the steps to performing Basic Breath Meditation

1. You can either sit or lay down for this technique. If you choose to sit, pick a comfortable position with your legs crossed. If you choose to lay, then lay on your and keep your body straight. Put a pillow or a! rolled towel under your knees and keep your arms at about 45 degrees from your body.2. Breathe through your nose, in then out. Pay attention to your breath, feel where it goes and how it moves through your torso. 3. Take notice of how your breathing changes once you begin to focus on it.4. If your mind drifts (and it will), refocus it back onto your breathing.5. Try bringing your breath into areas of your body where you feel it doesn't always reach. Consciously send it to places like the small of your back, your thighs, places that feel dull or empty. Let your breath follow your consciousness.6. When your meditation session is complete, bring yourself back from the session by wiggling your fingers and toes and then stretching your arms and legs before you stand from your seated position. But if you are lying down for your session, roll onto your side before moving into a sitting position. Stand slowly, rolling up your torso and finally raising your head.

If the previous technique doesn't fit your thoughts of the ideal technique for you to use, then you may want to try Mindfulness Meditation. This technique is aimed at seeing things as they really are and therefore seeing things more clearly. It's about being fully aware of things. For instance, when you are eating an apple you are aware of the smooth skin, the feeling of your teeth sinking into the apple's flesh, the sound of your chewing, the sweet or tart flavor in your mouth, the texture of the apple on your tongue. With this type of technique, it's suggested that you start with five minutes a day, gradually adding a few minutes a day until you reach a full twenty minutes.

Here are the steps to performing Mindfulness Meditation

1. Find a comfortable position where you're sitting on a pillow, a chair, maybe on the couch or the floor.2. Relax and begin to listen to the sounds around you. Practice letting go of the sounds. Don't hold onto them, but don't push them away either.3. As you breathe in think "in" and as you exhale think "ou! t." 4. In! evitably, your mind will wander and thoughts will drift in. Maybe you'll start thinking of a pain in your neck or the conversation you had with your manager last week that didn't go quite the way you expected. Don't be afraid to acknowledge the thoughts or feelings that come to your mind, spend just a moment with it and then return to your thoughts of "in" and "out." 5. You may find yourself dwelling on that pain in your neck or that ill-fated conversation. These thoughts may continue to pop up. In this case, maybe you'll want to mentally label them with words like "pain" or "disappointment" and then bring your awareness back to your breathing.6. Traditionally, to end this type of meditation session, dedicate the new energy you've created to others. You can do this in a few ways, but try saying "may the merit of this practice be dedicated to all beings everywhere. Stand. You should feel more centered.

You are your mind

Posted: 07 Aug 2012 02:00 AM PDT

Article by David A. Wells

You exist as a being of thought, awareness and perception living within a material body. Reality is nothing more than sensory input subject to interpretation by your mind.

In fact, you have no contact with material reality except through your senses and even then you experience that input as intangible thoughts and feelings.

There is great power in this truth because your thoughts are subject to your will.

You can learn to control your thoughts and thereby control how you experience your reality.

Your mind is your greatest asset because you can make it better in a number of ways.

You can give your brain proper nutrition so it will have the materials it needs to work properly. You might be surprised at the increase in clarity you will experience with proper brain nutrition.

You can learn new skills and knowledge to expand your understanding and capability. Your ability to learn new things and apply that knowledge to constructive ends expands the realm of human experience almost limitlessly.

You can exercise your mind to expand your ability to control and direct your thoughts to positive ends. All the skills and knowledge in the world won't do you any good if you spend all your time in front of the television. Gaining control over your thought process will give you the power to turn off the TV and put your mind to more productive and satisfying pursuits.

You can practice meditation to heighten your spiritual awareness. Meditation can yield profound benefits especially if you use a binaurel meditation music recordings to guide your meditation sessions.

Improving your mind is the most powerful thing you can do to improve your life experience. Here are three easy things you can do every day to strengthen your mind.

1. Read for twenty minutes every day. Reading excercises your ability to focus while giving you the opportunity to learn something at the same time. Reading stories can also activate the mind's visualization faculty more readily ! and vivi dly than almost anything else.

2. Do a multiplication problem in your mind. Multiply one two digit number by another two digit number and do it all in your head. This will force your to exercise your concentration while building the ability to hold multiple pieces of information in your short term memory at the same time.

3. Just before you go to bed, take a moment to remember in detail the first five minutes of your day this morning. See it in your mind. Make it as vivid and detailed as you can. This will train your mind to be observant, strengthen your visualization abilities and build confidence in your memory.

Once again, these are simple exercises that will have no effect what-so-ever unless you actually practice them on a regular basis. You wouldn't expect to get well defined abs after twenty sit-ups would you? Your mind works the same way. It takes time and the improvement will be incremental but after a while you will suddenly realize that you are in control now. The power of that is profound.

Thank You from Superior Mind!

Health Diet - GERD - Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, Prevention and Reduction Diet

Posted: 07 Aug 2012 12:00 AM PDT

Article by Candice McInnes

The esophagus is a specialized tube that allows the food to travel [once chewed and ready for swallowing] down our throats and into our stomachs. It has a special muscle at the lower end which allows food and liquid into the stomach and is generally tightly closed to prevent the flow of stomach acid coming back up into the esophagus.

Explaining GERD

This is the weakening of the muscle at the lower end of the esophagus, allowing stomach acid to reflux back up the tube. Symptoms of this disease include chest discomfort, heartburn and the awful bitter taste of our stomach acid as it gets to the mouth. If this acid gets the chance to trickle into our larynx [breathing tube] it can cause coughing, hoarseness, chest discomfort and shortness of breath. There are a number of factors, including certain foods that can lead up to GERD - this will be discussed as you get deeper into the article.

Factors - helpful in reducing some symptoms

STOP

* Tobacco - this weakens the lower muscle and should be avoided whether you smoke it or chew it.* chewing gum - increases the amount of swallowed air, leading to reflux and burping [belching]* hard candy - increases saliva and swallowed air, thus also leading to reflux and burping.* lying down straight after a meal - puts pressure on the esophageal muscle [so avoid snacks before bedtime]* don't do any serious bending after eating - puts pressure on the muscle* tight clothing [yup we all loosen our belts after the big dinner] this also puts pressure on the muscle

START

* eating smaller amounts - this aids in less stress on the esophageal muscle* losing weight if obese - obesity will cause more reflux due to the pressure of the extra weight on your stomach* elevating the head of the bed [6 or 8 inches should do the trick] - this will prevent reflux while you are asleep [do not use extra pillows when the bed is in this position as it will cause extra pressure on your abdomen]

Nutrition

A diet to control reflux is genera! lly easy to follow as there are few limitations in the basic and/or daily foods we eat. Follow the factors above and the diet suggestions below to ease your symptoms.

Foods to avoid

The following foods actually weaken the muscle that controls your reflux, avoid these as much as possible.

* creamed foods* soup* oils* chocolate [shame, this poor food is always a NO NO]* full cream milk* mint - peppermint and spearmint* fatty and/or fried foods* alcohol* spicy foods

Foods to limit

The following can irritate the lower esophagus if it is inflamed, limiting or avoiding these for a while can aid in reducing your reflux.

* tomato* pineapple* citrus - fruit or juices* caffeinated soft drinks* coffee - decaf or regular

Foods to increase

These foods can help in strengthening the lower muscle in the esophagus, increase your intake but remember that to much of a good thing could make you put on a few extra pounds.
